NARS Makeup Removing Water + being nice to old ladies

My neighbors probably think I’m weird. I get in all kinds of positions to take shots of beauty products outside. I get into some kind of zone yo.

And I am rarely friendly when I’m in the “zone”. Which is sad because the older lady who lives across from me always manages to venture outside when I’ve got my derrière aimed at the sky to snap shots of beauty stuffs.

She’ll ask what a blog is. She questions why beauty products have gone up in price since 1962. And bless her heart, but when I’m racing against daylight, I have very little time to answer these questions.

But I chit chat with her anyway. Because one day I’ll be a 70-somethin’ year old lady and I’ll want people to entertain my questions too. And I think I read somewhere that for every second you spend being nice to the elderly, another year gets added to your life. Or something like that. Anyway – photographing this bottle of NARS Removing Water was fun! Who knew a bottle of what looks to be water could look so cool?

Have y’all seen this in Sephora yet? It launched last month and it has become a staple in my makeup removing routine. This fragrance-free and oil-free makeup remover also doubles as a toner. With cooling cucumber and refreshing chamomile, this remover does a darn good job at keeping the skin hydrated.

Oh. And it cleans thoroughly too. Sometimes using a face cleanser isn’t enough so it’s good to know I’m removing everythiiiiing.

Pro’s
-It’s fragrance-free. A total win for me.
-Great for those with drier skin. It is hydrating and feels super refreshing.
-Non-irrittating. Yay for those of us with acne!
-I like that there’s a little hole in the packaging. This helps with distribution. That way you won’t end up using TOO much.

Con’s
-A bit pricey at $28. The good news is it’ll last last for quite some time.
-Doesn’t remove eye makeup. This is best for cleaning the skin.

Do you need this? If you’re like me and find that your cleanser doesn’t do the best job at removing your concealer, foundation and blush, you’ll love this. Plus it’s NARS. Don’t they do everything beautifully?

Whatcha think? Gonna stick with your ole’ trusty makeup remover or would you give this a whirl?

TheLookBag: $12/month on awesome beauty stuffs? I’m in!

I don’t know whether to call it a trend or what but lately there have been a ton of those “buy a subscription and get monthly beauty goodies”-type products. I’ve had my eyes on ‘em and while I’ve wanted to make the investment, I never came across a subscription that looked to…worth it. But woooowsers, I am absolutely lovin’ the Look Bag.

The expert spokesperson of The Look Bag just happens to be one of my favorite celebrity makeup artists, Damone Roberts. Here’s what you should know about TheLookBag:

  • It costs $12/month, no contract and that includes shipping costs. Score!
  • If you like a product that you received and want to purchase, you can save 20% off of the full size products.
  • A great bunch of the products are preservative-free and organic. Up my alley!
  • The sample sizes are large enough for you to get an idea if you like the product or not.
  • Products aren’t popular well-known brands; which can be refreshing. It gives you the chance to fall in love with new brands.

Sooo, what came in my bag?

Lots of cool stuffs! First off, I love that the sample sizes are large enough that I get a “feel” for how the product works. Too many times I’ve come across sample sizes that offer half a dollop. So yay for at least a week’s worth of product-use. The standouts for me?

I’ve never heard of the brand Cherry Jack but after trying this butter, I couldn’t Google them fast enough.

It smells decadent. Probably TOO good. But in a good way, of course. Aaaand, I got a whole bar of soap too!

This is another brand I’ve heard of but considering it’s free from bad stuffs, I will definitely be checking them out. I also received some other smaller samples.

For $12, I think TheLookBag is definitely one of the better monthly beauty subscriptions. And you definitely get way more perks than some of the other ones. $12 won’t break the bank and I feel like I’d get my money worth if I really like 2-3 of the products. So it’s definitely a good value.

Who would TheLookBag be for?

  • Beauty guys and girls who love discovering new brands.
  • Those looking to play around with different products without spending a ton of money.
  • Folx like me who have sensitive-skin and use preservative-free products.

For $12, I can dig it. Even if you find yourself only liking one of the products, you only spent $12. Aaaaand, if all else fails, you can cancel your subscription without any penalties.

Ready to sign up? Head on over to TheLookBag.com.

Whatcha think? Are you a fan of monthly beauty subscriptions?

The Sweaty Betty Diaries: Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens

Yours truly sweats like a beast. But of course you knew that, didn’t you? My friends are forever laughing at my inability to…not sweat. It’s just plain sad, I tell ya. Okay so yeah. Some of you guys and gals are battling freezing temps but such does not exist in the state of Florida. I sweat year round without prevail. These Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens are hookin’ a sista up though.

Like everything from Boscia, this little pack of sweat bustin’ linens is paraben-free and doesn’t contain any annoying fragrances or super strong scents. Which, of course, is a good thing because y’all know I can’t do super strong fragrances.

A pack of 100 sheets will run you $10, which isn’t a bad price. And I love how they smell.

If I sniff ‘em hard enough, I get a faint whiff of tea bag. Any oil-y residue and sweaty bits left on my forehead, cheeks and nose and instantly scooped by the linen. Easy peasy. Every beauty technique should be this easy. Don’t cha think?

You can grab these from Sephora stores and at Sephora.com.

Avon ANEW GENICS Treatment Cream

If there is one kind of product that I don’t review enough on Clumps of Mascara, it’s anti-aging products. I’m not going to pretend that I’m some pre-teen with perfect skin but I’m not exactly an octogenarian either. I sit comfortably in the middle. Unlike most women, I don’t lie about my age. I am 26 and proud yo! Buuuut, I do battle acne and while my skincare regimen isn’t full of anti-aging products, I do use eye creams and wrinkle creams. Not because I feel like I have to but you know…just to get myself in the habit.

Avon has recently released ANEW GENICS Treatment Cream and it comes with a whole heap of promises. According to the website, users can undo up to 10 years with just 4 weeks of regular use.

Do I think that’s a bit of a stretch? Maybe. But with its rave reviews and decent price point at $38, I definitely think it’s worth a try. I took it for a bit of a test drive to get an idea of the consistency and um yeah…it kinda rocks.

While intended to be used as a night cream, I find it to be moisturizing enough to wear during the day as well. It’s thick enough to provide enough moisture on your skin but didn’t appear to be too greasy or oily.

Which is always a plus if you suffer from acne-prone skin. In addition to reducing the look of wrinkles, the Anew Genetics Treatment cream can improve the appearance of discoloration. My gals with hyperpigmentation are singing praises as I type.

So yes, while I don’t think I have much use for this cream at the moment, what kind of beauty blogger would I be, if I didn’t let you know about the latest and greatest in skincare?

You can snag this anti-aging piece of wonder from the Avon website or flag down your favorite Avon representative to place an order.

So what do you think? Do you get down with using anti-aging products?

A Boscia Pore Purifying Black Strip is a man’s best friend.

Sooooo, he’s going to kill me for saying it but The Guy has an insanely flaky nose that is ridden with whiteheads. But that’s not the worst part. The worst part is…he won’t let me do anything about it! He’d rather walk around with a flaky nose than have his beauty blogger of a girlfriend help him out. Men, I tell ya. He wouldn’t let me take pictures, but his nose knew no safety with me and my pack of Boscia Pore Purifying Black Strips.

If you thought I loved the Clarifying Detox mask, brace yourself because these strips are a close 2nd in “Things I Love From Boscia”. It’s been a long time since I’ve tried nose strips. I remember when they first came out. The commercials had me begging Mama Clumps to scoop up a pack of them for me. When she finally did, I wasn’t impressed. Granted I was just 14 or 15 had didn’t know WHAT I was looking for, but still…underwhelmed teenagers turn into underwhelmed beauty bloggers. It’s a been a good 10 years since I’ve tried these and I considering I absolutely LOVE Boscia, I knew I would love these.

Just as I thought, they didn’t disappoint. Sans the preservatives including parabens, sulfates and the like, the strips do a fantastic job at thoroughly removing dirt and oil from clogged pores. A box of 6 strips will run you $15, which to me, is a good price point. After all, you don’t have to use these that often. Twice a month at best.

According to Sephora,

“Each adhesive strip attracts pore-clogging dirt and oil. Its full-contact delivery system instantly applies charcoal powder, an ingredient that draws out impurities and detoxifies the skin. Silica, a natural mineral, controls excess oil while witch hazel extract, a natural astringent, tightens pores. Effective yet gentle, additional botanical ingredients provide a soothing and cooling sensation upon adhesion. Skin is left exceptionally clarified.”

Why yes. Yes, it is. Exceptionally clarified is a bit of an understatement though.

I felt like I had a new nose after using these strips.

Pro’s
-Strip is wide enough to fit folx of all nose shapes, lengths and widths.
-While intended for the nose, you can probably use this anywhere on your face.
-Gentle enough for whiney guys to use.
-Free of fragrances.
-Works within minutes.

Con’s
-If you don’t wet the strip before removing, it can hurt a bit.
-May not be the best product for those with extremely sensitive skin.

The Guy won’t admit it, but these dramatically improved the skin around his nose. His nosey is clearer and those white heads are like…gone. He doesn’t know it yet, but I’ll be tossing these on his face at least once a month. Even if I’ve got to hold him down.

You can grab Boscia’s Pore Purifying Black Strips at Sephora stores and on Sephora.com.

L’Occitane, L’Occitane. How I love thee, L’Occitane.

I absolutely love L’Occitane. I love saying their name. I love walking into the stores and I absolutely adore the packaging of their products. I am in complete and total shock that I have yet to try their World Famous hand cream. Wellllls, I finally got my hands on it (hehe, no pun intended). I can totally see why just about everyone who tries it loves it.

Isn’t the packaging just beautiful? The limited edition packaging  for the Shea Butter collection, which includes Ultra Rich Body Cream, Hand Cream and Lip Balms are inspired by Bogolan traditional fabrics. I love when beauty products and packaging have some kind of meaning behind them.

But that’s not it…the scent of these products also come from an inspiration; more specifically flowers that are indigenous to the African continent. Desert Rose from Morocco, Hibiscus from Egypt and Cocoa Flower from the Ivory Coast are pleasantly placed in the Shea Butter collection products. Let’s rap about the Hand Cream first.

Retailing at $26 for 5.2 oz and $10 for 1 oz, this is perhaps L’Ocittane’s post popular product. Rightfully so. With a faint hint of hibiscus, this hand cream will find a permanent spot in my makeup bag. Yes, it’s a bit on the pricey side but if you don’t mind making a splurge on a skincare product, I’d definitely snag this hand lotion. The consistency is creamy and totally ash bashing.

It leaves the skin feeling moisturized without feeling greasy. It is absolutely perfect. Even more so because it’s an actual hand cream.

Meaning it fits in your hands; making it perfect for purses, pockets and briefcases. And then there’s the lip balm ($12)…

At first glance, this balm looks a lot like the hand cream. Even after you pop the top, it looks exactly like the hand cream.

I’m not digging that as a lip applicator. It doesn’t make application difficult, but it isn’t ideal. Lip applicators should be smooth, gentle and pleasant. This one, on the other hand, isn’t as pretty. In fact, I much prefer to put a bit on my finger and then apply on the lips. Which, of course, isn’t exactly sanitary. The consistency of the balm is a lot like Carmex.

It isn’t super thick nor is it super thin. It sits comfortably in the middle. I will say, though, the smell and fragrance are 10x better than that of Carmex. It’s a nice long-lasting balm that I think is great for every day use.

As if I needed another reason to love L’Occitane.

You can snag these from Loccitane.com.

The story of How I Misundersniffed the Cedar ZumBar

Never in your life should you judge a bar of soap. Especially one that is as beautiful as this Cedar ZumBar. I first spotted this soap in Whole Foods months ago. I tend to lean towards woodsy scents so Cedar, I thought, would be up my alley.

Um no. It wasn’t. I sniffed it and was completely turned off at how it smelled like a jungle. Branches ‘an all. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when a Soap Hope referral landed me a free bar of soap, I found myself glaring at Indigo Wild’s Cedar ZumBar. Again. Something told me to give it a try and so when I got it in the mail, I couldn’t wait to take a bath with it. Even though the scent of it was still unfriendly to my nose.

Now I can’t stop using this soap! How is this possible? How can I go from totally hating the way this bar of soap smelled to being in love with it? It’s magic, I tell ya. Magic. On the skin, the Cedar goat’s milk soap smells a lot like a Chai tea. It is absolutely delightful and I am so glad I gave it  a try.

Stay tuned as a I review more beautiful and naturally nourishing soaps from Soap Hope.

Oh! I asked The Guy to give this soap a try and he really liked it. That said, ladies, if you want to get your guy something nice for the shower, consider this ZumBar. It’s Dude Approved! For more information about the amazing organization that is Soap Hope, click here.
