Preggo Products: Clarins Beauty Beginnings Pregnancy Kit

Ooooh, the joys of pregnancy. You know, the one or two. I’ve had a fairly easy pregnancy (compared to what most women go through) but after 8.5 months of carrying Bean, I’m just anxious and ready to see her little face. I’m all achey and bloat-y, sleepy and everything in between. But life must move on and I love how beauty brands are showing mommies love. Check out this Beautiful Beginnings Pregnancy Kit from Clarins.

My friends that are already mommies tell me I’m crazy but I intend to continue to pamper myself throughout motherhood. I know life is gonna be crazy with a newborn but does that mean I’m going to let my skin, hair and nails go to hell? Um no. I’ve been makin’ it my business to pamper myself throughout this pregnancy and this kit has been niiiiice. You unzip the cute lil’ tote and the first thing you’ll see is a Preggo Chick book.

DSC_4063

This was totally up my alley and all beauty lovin’ mamas would love the little tips and tricks this booklet provides. I read it in one sitting. Which is easy to do because it isn’t THAT long. My skin has been going through crazy changes and the guide gave some insight as to what’s going on and how to help. There were also some helpful breathing techniques and exercise suggestions. Good stuff. As far the products inside…

There’s the Huile Tonic Body Oil Treatment (3.4 oz)

DSC_4077

I adore how this smells. It smells like a bunch of woodsy essential oils (rosewood and rosemary. Mmmm….) and it’s definitely up my alley. You know, since I’m all sensitive to fragrances and all. It contains plant extracts and regular use of it is supposed to help the skin’s firmness. And it isn’t super oily which is also a good thing.

Smoothing Body Scrub for a New Skin (1oz)

DSC_4078

If you’ve met one body scrub, you’ve met them all. This one has a nice consistency and the floral scent seems to dissipate after use.

Stretch Mark Control (1oz)

DSC_4081

I still don’t think you can fight stretch marks (I believe they are genetic) but I’m a sucker and don’t mind using products that say that’ll help them fade or diminish over time. This fragrance-free moisturizer isn’t greasy and moisturizes nicely.

Beauty Flash Balm (0.5oz)

DSC_4083

This was the one product where I found the scent to be a tad bit overpowering. The balm is super powder-y and floral but it feels niiiice on the skin. It seems to be just as hydrating as the Stretch Mark Control cream. This facial balm is supposed to help brighten and tighten over time.

Also in the tote is a soft baby blanket.

DSC_4086

Such a nice little kit, uh? As a first time pregnant gal, I’m lovin’ it. Sure I likely won’t use all of the products but the trial sizes are nice sized enough to make me happy. The Tonic Body Oil Treatment is the true star here. It normally retails for $54 so the $60 price tag on this kit seems about right. Especially for a higher-end skincare brand like Clarins.

If you know a pregnant beauty gal, consider scooping this up for her. You can get it from Clarins counters and at ClarinsUSA.com.

No more dark circles thanks to Clinique’s Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector

EB Eyes_SingleHiRes

Sometimes I’m a responsible blogger and do BEFORE pictures of myself on products that promise to make changes “over time” and sometimes I forget. AND, I lost the product and so I don’t even have pictures for you. *tears*

I’ve been on the Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector bandwagon for quite some time. In fact, the only reason I stopped using it is because I’ve ran out of 2nd bottle of the serum and I’m too cheap to buy another one. True story. I got all kinds of excited when I found out that they had the same product except it’s targeted specifically for the eye area. It’s not only supposed to help lighten those dark undereye circles but it’s supposed to hydrate the area too. Well cool, man.

I started seeing results around 2 weeks later. My eyes didn’t appear to be as dark. I mean, yeah…I could use concealer to cover them up, but if I can fix the problem without HAVING to use concealer, then I’d be one happy gal. And I can confidently say that the Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector did a dynamite job at helping lighten those dark circles. Why, yes, I’m pretty sure they’ll return with a newborn a comin’ in like 7 weeks or so but shoot, I’ll take the temporary relief as I can get it.

PRO’s
-Fragrance-free
-Metal nozzle feels nice and cooling on the skin
-A little goes a long way
-Doesn’t interfere with moisturizers and foundations
-Nice consistency that was sensitive-skin friendly

CON’s
-May be a bit pricey to some
-Requires regular use to be effective
-Dark circles may return if you stop using product

Price: $39.50
Where to snag: Sephora, Sephora.com and Clinique counters

I’m a believer. And I’m going to keep using this stuff. This plus my drinking like 90 oz of water a day and tryiiiiing to get at least 7 hours of sleep a night should help with dark circles, right? Right?

The Evolution of B: How I Went from Not Caring to Being Obsessed with Skincare

1_Glam_Author_Logo_100x100png

Confession: I didn’t get all that serious about makeup and skincare until my early-mid 20’s. While some little girls grow up dabbling in beauty stuffs and begging their parents to let them wear red lipstick at the age of 14, I was that girl that…just didn’t care. Toss me a lipgloss and I was good to go. I’d buy whatever skincare product looked pretty in the stores, use it and buy something else when it ran out. I was the Queen of No Fuss Beautification.

Until I turned like 23 or so. I went crazy over makeup. And then I realized it didn’t matter how extensive your makeup collection is if you didn’t take care of the skin too. So yeah, a late lesson learned but better late than never. So here’s how my beauty routine has evolved over the years…

I used to:

-Say “Screw it! I’m not washing my face tonight.”

Now I:

-Wash my face nightly. Or at the very least I use a cleansing cloth to remove makeup and daily grime.

I used to:

-Think any kind of skincare product would work.

Now I:

-Analyze  my skin and see what products work best for my specific conditions and the season.

I used to:

-Assume that I wouldn’t need anti-aging products any time soon.

Now I:

-Get myself in the habit of using them. If I start a regimen using eye creams to combat wrinkles, by the time I’m in my 30’s, 40’s and 50’s, using them won’t seem too laborious.

See! I’m a big girl and my current skincare and makeup routines are a big proof of that. Has your skincare regimen evolved over the years or are you sticking to what has been working?

Shea Moisture for the Holidays

Man. My skin is getting worse and worse. Total TMI? I think not. Y’all know I love sharing the inside happenings of my unappealing skin issues. From my acne, eczema and hyperpigmentation, you gals (and guys) have been there for me. That’s why I love the Clumps family. You guys get it.

My real life friends…they’re all like, “Eww Brit, seriously? Eczema? Grosssss!” Which is so dramatic and unnecessary because SO many people suffer from this chronic disease. I’m just the weirdo that doesn’t mind talking about it publicly. *shrugs* Anywho, so recently I came across this Shea Moisture little gift set and I thought Whoooooa!

DSC_3707

Will you look at that? Words can’t even express how much I love this brand. I mean, their products have NEVER failed me. They aren’t loaded with synthetic ingredients and fragrances, they’re affordable, accessible and they work. This holiday seaason, Shea Moisture has released a few holiday gift sets and this precious Aromatherapy Lavender gift set is one of ‘em.

DSC_3711

Now here’s the thing about lavender, the essential oil – you either love it or you don’t. It took many years for lavender to grow on me (I’m more of a woods girl) but now I’ve found it to be one of my favorite oils, mostly because of its healing and aromatherapy properties. It just rocks, y’all. And this gift set is the perfect treat for you or someone in your life that values high quality body care products. And it’s only $14.99. For that you get…

Lavender & Wild Orchid Bubble Bath

DSC_3712

I take baths as much as I can but I’ve also been using this as a body wash. It works surprisingly well! Like all Shea Moisture products, the fragrance is very subtle and isn’t overpowering. The orchid mellows out the lavender a bit so even if you aren’t much of a floral scent lover, you may actually be able to tolerate this one.

Lavender & Wild Orchid Bath, Body  & Massage Oil

DSC_3728

I love a good oil and this one is wooooonderful. I had Esposo give me a much needed prenatal massage with this stuff. It also didn’t make my eczema flare up but yet it moisturized my skin beautifully. It’s the perfect oil to slather all over the skin after a rough day.

Lavender & Wild Orchid Relaxing Fragrance Oil

DSC_3733

DSC_3739

This is the one product I couldn’t use because I don’t use fragrance oils. They’re either all essential or nothin’ when it comes to me. I’m not a fan of the synthetic smell of fragrance oils and so while this doesn’t work for me, it still smells pretty. I think the inclusion of the fragrance will help the product last longer (because essential oils generally don’t last long scent-wise) and I think that’s what most consumers are looking for when it comes to body care products.

Quite the steal for less than $15, uh? I plan on scooping up 2 of these for some beauty gal pals of mine. I can’t say who because someone may be readin’ my blog, ya know?

I’m so in love with this brand. I recently found out that they had baby products and I almost did a cartwheel when I got some of ‘em as a gift.

DSC_3744

Um. Let’s just hope I can refrain from using them until Bean gets here. Unlikely though. Hey! I’m bein’ honest.

Way to go, Shea Moisture. You win AGAIN! You can scoop this gift set up at Target stores or on Target.com.

My favorite Asian beauty product comes to the States!

I adore cosmetics from other countries. Especially Asian cosmetics. I follow a ton of beauty bloggers who live in Japan, Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong and I am forever going gaga over the the cosmetics and tools that seem to only be in their neck of the woods. And for the longest, you just couldn’t find sheet masks in the U.S. Until now!

DSC_1003

I know. I look all creep-tastic like I’m Michael Myer’s OTHER sister but I am beyond excited that these are finally accessible. Not quite drugstore accessible but hey, I can settle with ordering them online. I’ve done beauty swaps with some of my Asian beauty bloggers and the gals aways included these awesome sheet masks. Trust me, y’all. If you haven’t tried ‘em yet, they are definitely worth a try.

DSC_0972

Say “hi” to the brand MaskerAide. MaskerAide has a nice line of sheet masks that not only cover a wide range of needs but they are also vegan! Aaaand fragrance-free! I know, I know! These were so made for me.

Packaging-wise, I find these to be adorable. I’m a little annoyed at how the blonde chick is on EVERY sheet though. Why couldn’t there have been a little more diversity on the various sheets? Y’all know how I get. Lack of diversity annoys me, even in beauty products.

But anyway – there are 6 different kinds of masks for various conditions…

Detoxing

DSC_0974

One that helps with aging skin

DSC_0975

A mask for skin that has been beaten up by the weather

DSC_0977

A mask for brightening and energizing

DSC_0978

A pre-nighttime mask

DSC_0979

One that helps with awakening and refreshing skin

DSC_0980

I think these descriptions are cutesy and just to see if they were really different, I took a peep at the ingredients from all of the packagings and they are all different. For example, the detoxing mask includes aloe vera gel whereas some of the others do not. Okay, fair enough.

While I like think these are nice, I woud have loved to see masks targeted to dry skin, oily skin and acne sufferers. Those make sense to me whereas do I really understand the use of a Beauty Restore mask? Meh. Not so much. But aside from that, the lack of preservatives and the performance of these masks are really impressive. Each masks comes with instructions…

DSC_0982

And added information about the ingredients.

DSC_0983

DSC_0990

Very impressive, uh? Especially the fragrance free part. Y’all know I’m a fragrance hater but I think anyone would be if they’d have to wear a facial sheet on their face for a good 10-20 minutes, ya know?

I test drove 2 of these masks. My favorite between Detox Diva and Beauty Restore is definitely Detox Diva. This is one hydrating mask! Application is simple too. Simply rip ‘er up…

DSC_0993

…when removing the mask from the packaging, you’ll have to be careful as the mask is super moist and may drip all over.

DSC_0997

Which I guess is a good thing. At least you get enough product. You’ve got to be careful about peeling open the mask as if you do so too roughly, you may tear apart some pieces.

DSC_0999

And then you apply it on your face. It really is that simple and these sheet masks feel great! Unlike most masks, they feel cool the entire time you wear them. And it feels goooood. I can’t say for sure if the mask changed my skin’s condition greatly as I only used 2 in a span of 2 weeks but who knows? Maybe overtime and with regularly use they’d do some good. The relaxing nature of these sheet masks are reason enough for why I’d like to make an effort to wear one at least once a week.

You can get these from MaskerAide sheet masks from MaskerAide.com at $4.99. Here’s to hopin’ we’ll see these in stores soon. Woo hooo!

Any sheet masks lovers in the house?

Stretch Marks: Attempt to beat ‘em or ignore ‘em?

Stretch marks. For some, they are like the WORST thing that can happen to your body. And for me…they’re just a a part of life. They come around if you’ve lost some weight or gained some weight. Or you could be one of those lucky ladies who have amazing genetics and don’t get stretch marks at all. In which case, I don’t like you.

Hahaaaa! I’m kidding. I’ve got two different brands of oils here that have a ton of claims but they both claim to help fade stretch marks over time. And well uh, with my growing belly, I figured why not give these bad boys a whirl? Say hello to the ever so popular Bio and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil.

DSC_0941

This review won’t be comparing the two (because I’ve only got 1 body to test drive ‘em on. Ha!) but rather give a brief intro into their claims, if they rock and if they perform well enough to motivate a consumer to use time and time again.

DSC_0936

Let’s start with Bio Oil.

DSC_0944

Price: $19.99
Where To Purchase: Ulta stores and at Ulta.com
Size: 4.2 oz and 2 oz ($11.99)

I didn’t know it before, but pregnant women everywhere swear by this stuff. I’m not even kidding. Visit a pregnancy forums or store and chances are, you’ll see people bragging about this oil. In fact, just check out Ulta’s review section of this oil and you’ll see a ton of testimonies from users everywhere. This stuff is popular for a reason, uh?

DSC_0947

DSC_0948

DSC_0950

Like any kind of oil, it has a greasy consistency but I found it to sink into the skin nicely.

DSC_0956

DSC_0959

It has a pretty prominent floral smell. If I had to guess I’d say roses? It’s a bit too much for me (y’all know how I feel about fragrances) but after a few days of wearing it daily, I actually got used to it. I used this oil on my belly but it can also be used as a makeup remover, hair oil and alllll over the body. I’ll likely only use it on the belly though.

Then there’s Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil.

DSC_0962

Price: $10.99
Where to Purchase: Most drugstores
Size: 5.1 oz

Everyone knows about good ole’ Palmer’s and their Cocoa Butter Formula products and in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they will donate 15 percent of the sales (with a minimum donation of $100,000) of specially-marked bottles of the following classic Cocoa Butter Formula products to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Cool stuff!

DSC_0963

DSC_0966

DSC_0967

Like Bio Oil, this is a, you guessed it, oil. Performance is similar in that it’s greasy going on but smooths out once you rub it in.

DSC_0971

Fragrance-wise, if you love the smell of cocoa butter, you’ll love the smell of this stuff. I also dig the pump dispenser.

DSC_0970

It makes distribution easier. It’s an oil that you could easily use all over if you wanted to. Like the Bio Oil, I’ve been using this just on my tummy

I’m going to keep going back and forth with both products to see if overtime my stretch marks will fade. Can I be honest though? I’m a bit skeptical and I don’t think anything can make ‘em disappear. And I’m okay with that. But I’m a beauty blogger who loves beauty stuffs so I’ll keep slathering to see if I get any results. I’m cray-zay like that.

Are you a stickler about trying to beat stretch marks?

Biore’s new look!

Okay, so we all know how ridiculously sensitive my skin is and how I very rarely change up my skincare regimen. But just because I can’t use a product doesn’t mean I don’t want to sound the horn and tell y’all about ‘em. Such is the case with Biore.

Biore has been busy yo! Look at that redesign. This certainly isn’t the Biore that I grew up with but I’m okay with that. The packaging is cleaner, classier and definitely hipper. Fine by me. I haven’t personally tested any of these products but I did want to showcase them for my Biore fans. The best thing about Biore? The fact that they have SO many skincare products for various skincare needs.

4-in-1 Detoxifying Cleanser

This multi-tasking face wash that cuts your routine down to one step, gently removes dirt, oil and makeup from skin without over-drying or stripping skin of its natural oils. The formula cleanses, tones, stimulates and detoxifies to help restore a healthy glow.

Steam Activated Cleanser, with SteamActiv™ Beads

Esposo LOVES these kind of cleansers. This invigorates skin with a cooling mint extract complex that contrasts against the warmth of the steam to revitalize the senses.

Pore Unclogging Scrub

My fellow acne suffers will dig this one. This creamy pearlized formula is designed to lift away pore-clogging dirt and oil. The cleanser contains spherical exfoliating microbeads that gently remove dull, lifeless surface cells without damaging skin and Salicylic acid to help prevent blackheads and breakouts from forming.

Warming Anti-Blackhead Cleanser

I’ll be holding on to this one for when after Baby Clumps is born. I don’t think I’ve ever tried a warming cleanser! This powerful blackhead-fighting cleanser is formulated with Zeolite, a special mineral clay that warms on contact with water, to help open up pores and clear out dirt, oil and makeup.

Deep Cleansing Pore Strips (available in 8 and 14 count nose strips)

Clean a week’s worth of dirt build-up in by using these once a week. The strips are the deepest way to clean pores in just ten minutes.

Daily Cleansing Cloths

These ultra-convenient, pre-moistened wipes are infused with grapefruit and pomegranate. Each cloth is double-sided, featuring a textured side for mild exfoliation and a smooth side to wipe skin clean.

These products are moderately priced between $5.99-$11.99. The pore strips are the most expensive of the bunch but you can score the cleanser for close to nothing at $5.99. I’ve seen these products are over drugstores and you can scoop ‘em up at Drugstore.com.
