Amor de Lacquer: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri jewel toned polishes

I absolutely loved this collection from Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. My living room and bedroom follow a similar color palette with the jewel toned burgundies and golds, and this collection was totally up my alley. Like most of Sally Hansen’s nail products, these are difficult to find. But if you do manage to spot them at your local drugstore, don’t think twice about gettin’ them. I don’t think these will be around for long.

Quick Brick is a jewel toned burgundy and hands down one of my favorite polishes ever. This is absolutely stunning on nails. It looks like sparkling garnet jewels. Just gorge!

Teal-y Fast is fabulousity in a bottle. If you are a teal lover, this is a polish that you HAVE to have.

Bronze Ablaze is just what the name says. A bronze. It looks interesting on my skin complexion.

Presto Pewter is a silver that you’ve probably seen before. I can never get enough silver polishes though.

Cocoa A-Go-Go reminds me of a hair color that I once had. It has sparkles of gold and bronze. Without those sparkles, it would probably be a milk chocolate brown but the sparkles give it lots of personality.

Ruby Rush is my second favorite. It’s a stunning shade that has neon magenta sparkles that is overshadowed by its dark base.

Grapescape is such a beautiful purple. I’ve never been a fan of purple but shades like this make me change my mind. And my poor camera. It was having a hard time capturing the essence of this purple. It is rich and deep and while it looks dark in the bottle, it looks phenomenally purple on the nails.

I used only 2 coats for each polish. The formula on these are fantastic. In fact, you could probably get away with only one coat. Wear time is always good for Insta-Dri. And since I’ve got those long and wide nail beds, the large brush (similar to OPI’s Pro Wide brush) is perfect for me. You can get these for under $8 anywhere Sally Hansen nail polishes are sold.

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Touring collection (part II)

If you missed Part I of this collection, you can check it out here. Time to round up the other 6 shades. These gals are little brighter than their vampy siblings.

Honk If You Love OPI is a cool-toned grape/dark purple cream that looks to be the purple version of Road House Blues. That of course means I love it.

I Eat Mainely Lobster is a vibrant coral with subtle shimmer. I’m not a fan of coral polishes, but like I’ve always said, if I’m going to wear them, they’ve got to have shimmer.

Color to Diner For is a slightly dark Americana red with subtle gold and rose shimmer is is absolutely stunning. Even if it’s been seen before.

My Address is “Hollywood” is a creamy rose shade with subtle shimmer. Pretty sweet if you’re in the mood to rock Spring-y shades during the Fall and Winter months.

I Brake For Manicures is a dark eggplant shade with warm plum undertones that looks black inside but comes to life the minute you hit some light.

Are We There Yet? is a juicy melon shade with subtle shimmer that I’ll be rocking pretty regularly this season. This baby is gorgeous!

My favs? I Brake For Manicures and Color to Diner for are fabulous!

Amor de Lacquer: OPI Touring collection (part I)

I’m a wee bit late in reviewing this collection but please don’t hate the player. Hate her nails. My nails have been crackin’ so badly for the past few months that I haven’t even been inspired to polish my nails. They are getting a bit better now and so I’m back with a nail polish collection that has been out for quite some time but still worth bloggin’ about. This is a massive collection of 12 polishes and so I’ll be doing 6 at a time. First up, the darker and vampy shades.

Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window is a dark olive cream and is one of those fugly shades that I surprisingly like.

Get in the Expresso Lane is a rich dark chocolate brown cream but my camera can’t seem to get an accurate shot of it. In the bottle it looks like more of a murky brown.

French Quarter For Your Thoughts is a cool-toned pale grey cream and not entirely unique but will be even more stunning when topped off with your favorite glitter topcoat. And please pardon my cracking cuticles. I told you my nails are goin’ through some thangs…

Road House Blues is an inky dark blue cream and wow, I am in love with this kid. It’s one of those blues that can almost look black but when you catch it in the light, be ready to be blown away.

A-Taupe the Space Needle is a dark taupe cream with olive undertones and another shade that I would consider fuguly. I don’t know, maybe polishes like this just aren’t flattering on my skin tone. What do you think?

Suzi Takes the Wheel is a pale grey cream and at first glance, it almost looks like French Quarter For Your Thoughts. My eyes may be playing tricks on me but I think FQFYR looks to have a little more green in it.

My favs? Definitely Road House Blues and Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window. Road House Blues, I thought, would be streaky but it didn’t give me any problems. I used 2 coats for each polish but when I don’t think a 3rd coat would hurt.

Amor de Lacquer: Are Julep’s handcare products worth the price tags?

Remember when I did that post on Julep nail products for Beauty Stat? I have since had the opportunity to test drive some of their products. Their hand treatment products to be exact. Here’s the thing about hand scrubs and creams…they have to be almost as amazing as kale for me to say good things about them.

Why, you ask?

Because, let’s face it…the truth is, if you’ve got a good body scrub and good body lotion, then who’s to say you can’t use the them on your hands? Do you see where I’m getting at? That said, while I think Julep’s nail care products are wonderful, I’m not sure if they are worth their steep price tags.

Let’s start with the Facial for Hands Glycolic Hand Scrub that retails for $32.00.

Well now…$32 is pretty steep for any kind of scrub, much less one that is specifically for hands. What makes this scrub so special? According to Julep, “Potent glycolic acid combined with apricot seeds provides powerful double exfoliation that leaves your hands feeling noticeably softer and looking younger after just one use. Naturally scented with orange oil for a refreshing aromatherapy boost with each use.” (source) This paraben-free scrub feels absolutely wonderful. The apricot seeds feel so good and feel even better if you’ve got someone to massage your hands for you. It’s a nicely fragranced scrub that leaves your hands feeling beyond smooth.

To follow up with that scrub there’s the Everyday SPF Hand Cream that retails for $28.00.

I love that this cream has SPF in it. While I’m always sure to use facial moisturizers with SPF in them, I always forget to apply a moisturizer with SPF in it on my hands. This streak-free and paraben-free moisturizer smells just like a sunscreen; a smell that I know shouldn’t bug me but does. I do love that it’s not super greasy. I’d love to see a smaller version of this. I think I’d be more inclined to use a hand lotion with SPF in it if it was small enough to throw in my purse, car or desk at work.

And then there’s the Julep Essential Cuticle Oil that retails for $18. This product is my favorite out of the bunch. It’s perfect for using on the go.

I’m obsessed with constantly moisturizing my cuticles and the rollerball makes it super easy to do so.

The fragrance smells just like an essential oil blend that my Mom would mix up.

Products-wise, I think Julep does a phenomenal job. But their prices can certainly use some work. When purchased together, the scrub and hand cream go for a whopping $60. Wow-sers. The cuticle oil, while nice, I don’t think is worth $18. From a consumer’s point of view, I think these products would be a lot more appealing, if the prices were slashed in half. Would I spend $30 on a hand scrub and moisturizer? Sure. But would I spend $60 on them? Absolutely not.

That said, if you’re in the market to try something new and don’t mind the splurge, give Julep’s hand and nail treatments a try. You’ll definitely get what you pay for. Head on over to the site to start a buyin’.

What do you think? Have you tried anything from Julep yet?

Amor de Lacquer: Nicole by OPI. Target exclusives that you so need.

Finally! My nails want to act normal and not chip every 3.2 seconds. They aren’t as long as I’d like but they’re polishable and I’ll take ’em. I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed any Nicole by OPI polishes. Which is pretty funny because I’ve been loving this brand forever. Nicole is the younger and more affordable sister of OPI. While OPI polishes can go for $9-$10, you can snag Nicole for $7.

Check out some of the gorgeous shades sitting on Target shelves….

Green Up Your Act is one of my favorite Nicole by OPI polishes. This cream applies absolutely stunning. It reminds me of my murky hunter green.

If you’ve seen one foil-y bright red, you’ve seen them all. Doesn’t make this one any less purty though.

This blue reminds me of a pair of jeans I had when I was 15. They were these dark denim sparkly jeans. This polish is the perfect recreation of that fashion bomb.

I couldn’t quite capture the true color of this polish but it certainly isn’t purple like a grape. Not sure where Nicole by OPI got that one from. If anything, I found it to be a dark amber with bronze shimmer. It’s the perfect Fall color!

I used 2 coats for each polish and didn’t have any problems. You can grab these Target exclusive at Target stores and on Target.com.

Which shade is your fav?

A nail polish addict’s dream…

My nails have been on the fritz for quite some time. Hence why you haven’t seen an Amor de Lacquer post from me in a few weeks. Between my biotin and taking extra care of my nails, I hope to have strong nubbins sooner rather than later. So yeah…no nail polish posts on Clumps. But that doesn’t mean I’m not nail polish blogging at ALL.

Check out the post I did on Beauty Stat about the oh so amazing Julep. Haven’t heard about this all-natural nail polish lines? Brace yourself for this one, lovelies. This is exactly what us nail polish addicts need.

Amor de Lacquer: Essence’s polishes- 99 cents but 100% aweseome.

Oh. snap. Those were my words the minute I saw just how beautiful Essence Colour & Go nail polishes I applied. Have y’all heard of this affordable brand? They are located in Ulta and I am just lovin’ everything I’ve discovered so far. Their mascaras aren’t half bad and the polishes are totally worth the 99-cent price tag. And I’m not even kidding. These babies are less than a dollar per bottle. Cool, uh?
