Amor de Lacquer: What The Polish Addict Says…

Got another tip from one of my favorite nail polishes bloggers!!

Stephanie from The Polish Addict

“Different base coats work differently for different people but a good base coat makes a world of difference in terms of wear time, prevention of yellowing, and some even help to make difficult to apply polishes easier to apply. My personal favorites right now are Barielle Camouflage and Zoya.”

Polish Pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: Man Glaze polishes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Guess what’s in the hoooouse?

Matte polishes, yo!! They are poppin’ up everywhere. Seriously…..brands like Nubar, Zoya, Essie, and O.P.I. are all launching matte nail polish collections this year. I’m excited!!

And here’s the thing about matte nail polishes: you either like them or you don’t. It’s that simple. That have ZERO shine and are great for a nice edgy look. While they do have their issues, I find that the look is well worth it.

Matte nail polishes aren’t THAT innovative. I remember Maybelline launching them back when I was in middle school circa 1997. It was a super sheer purple that dried to a matte finish. I LOVED it.

Man Glaze polishes are big free polishes that were created for—men. Yep, guys. Fellas. Dudes. But who says us ladies can’t rock them?

The names are so man-ly. LOL!!

Death Tar-(my description)-a matte black with hidden silver shimmer
Fuggen Ugly-(my description)-dark concrete with a silver shimmer

First up is Death Tar with flash…

I kinda dig it! But look how it looks without flash.

I think my tweeted photo shows the matte-ness in all of its matte-y essence!

I REALLY love The Death Tar. I have always been a fan of black polish but I love it even more without the shine. Application was a bit tricky though. If you zoom in on the photos, you’ll see a few specks that popped up under the polish. But it didn’t bother me simply because The Death Tar dries in a minute flat. 2 coats is good!

Now for Fuggen Ugly WITH flash….

….and without:

I love how this color looks on but I HATED the application. And I hated how it chipped within an hour of me wearing it. No bueno. The application was streaky and around the second coat, I found that it would drag….making for unevenness. But I still love the color nonetheless. I’m just too lazy to tweak it and make it work. I want it to already be perfect. LOL!

Sooooo, overall….I like Man Glaze. I am in love with The Death Tar and only “like” Fuggen Ugly. I think both are worth a buy if you are trying ease your way into matte polishes. They are $6.66 each and shipping was fast. You can get them here.

Whatcha think? A fan of matte polishes or not so much?

I will be reviewing a great deal of matte polishes in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics’ Summer collection

[scheduled post--I am traveling. Email me
with any questions.]

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Today I will be introducing you to a brand that is new to me. Diamond Cosmetics asked me to review their Summer 09 Collection and I couldn’t be more happy that I did.

Here is a little more information about the company:

“Diamond Cosmetics, Inc. is a manufacturer/distributor of quality cosmetics. The bulk of our business includes nail products, such as nail enamel and nail treatments, as well as lip products, such as lipstick and lip gloss.

We first opened our doors in 1982 and began by selling eye and lip pencils to retain chains and independent drug stores. Since then, we have expanded our scope of business to include 3 separate divisions: retail, professional, and private label.” (source)

I could do a whole blog post on how awesome it is that they do private labels but to get more information about that, click here. In the meantime, let’s check out the hot summer collection!

Don’t Teal My Heart Away did not photograph as nicely as I wanted it to. The color is really a lot more vibrant in color and is the PERFECT teal. The color is unique in a sense because $0.25 from each bottle is donated to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Beauty and a cause! You know I love it.

Now what color does this one look like? Oh, Tiff could be China Glaze’s for Audrey’s long lost cousin. I couldn’t do a comparison because in a massive “clean out and give away” moment, I gave away For Audrey. I suppose Oh, Tiff is just as wonderful. The application was to die for!

Fiery Coral may look red but really it is coral with a kick. It is a cream that isn’t terribly unique. I’m not sure how I feel about corals against my skin tone. I don’t hate them but I don’t run to them either. Fiery Coral is still hot, though!

Here comes my favorite color out of the bunch! Hot Summer Pink is officially my “Trip to the Bahamas 2009″ color. I love love love this one. I saved the flash on this photo only because WITH the flash, it is insanely bright. It has tiny blue/silver glitter particles in it that makes it look a little more neon. I can’t say enough of that this color. It is just awesome!

Awww, it’s another creamy baby pink. Pink polishes have never been my favorite but when they are creams, I tend to like them a little more. Cotton Candy looks good enough to eat and is sweet on the nails.

I had trouble photographing Pink Passion too. It isn’t as dark as it looks in the photo. It is really more of a muted magenta. I am sure there are many colors like this one too but colors like this are always welcomed in my collection. When I don’t want crazy colors but don’t want to leave the nails bare, I rock colors like Pink Passion.

I applied 2 coats with each color. All were used over Zoya’s Nail Ridge filler.

Overall I think Diamond Cosmetics’ Summer collection has something for everyone. It will appeal to the safe-color wearin’ ladies and the crazy color wearin’ chica like myself. I am THRILLED that they are Big 3 free meaning they don’t have DHP, toluene and formaldehyde. Yesss! Another brand lacking the yucky chemicals. I love it! Aaaand….they are only $2!!! Not bad at all!

These colors haven’t popped up on their site yet but they have a ton of other colors that I have my eyes on. You can find out more about DiamondCosmetics here.

Whatcha think?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Zoya’s Summer 2009 Oh-La-La Collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

I am finally getting around to reviewing the other collection from Zoya’s Summer 2009 collections. Remember Oh La-La? I loved that collection. Hot bright neon’s with personalities. I am still in love with Paz.

Oh-La-La, I think, is for the average nail polish wearer. There are a few colors that are for us crazy nail polish fiends but for the most part, this collection is a little subdued compared to La-Di-Da. There are a very stars, though!

See!

Katy is described as bright fuchsia pink with blue/purple shimmer. I know for a fact that there are many colors like this. But that doesn’t stop me from liking Katy. I consider this to be a pretty “safe” color and I felt like I had to add some glitter to really make this baby pop.

Hey there, Emme! I have never been a fan of pinks like this. Just not my style. But she is pretty nonetheless with a nice shiny finish–even without a top coat!

Goldie. Just how fitting is this name for this polish? Goldie is gold alright! I actually like this gold which is shocking because I have never really been fan of gold polishes. But this one isn’t so bad. I rocked it on my toes for awhile and loved it.

Now we’re gettin‘ somewhere! I love
Ginessa! I have always loved silver polishes and the fact that this one has some micro-glitter in it, well….I love it even more! I mean, check out the bottle! I’ve been using this baby like crazy. While all of the other polishes took 2 coats, Ginessa demanded 3.

I love blue nail polishes! Tallulah is rockin‘. It almost reminds me of Zoya’s Tart but nope, Tart is slightly darker. I think I like Tallulah better. It just looks stunning in person.

[RANDOM] I wish my middle finger would hurry up and grow because it looks crazy funny next to my other nails. I like Midori! I really like greens that have creme finishes but I can deal with this one. I rocked this one on the toes for awhile too. It looks amazing in the sun.

I didn’t endure any problems with these kids. Katy’s brush was little wonky. A few of the hairs were longer than the others. Which made for tough application. I used two coats for each, except for Ginessa which, I think, looks better with three.

Must haves in this collection? Ginessa, Tallulah and Midori.

Buy these and more for $6/bottle at Zoya.com.

What do you think? Own any of these? Want ‘em or not so much?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Revlon’s Runway Collection Nails

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

I had the opportunity to test drive Revlon’s Runway glue-on nails. I haven’t worn a pair of fake nails since early middle school. My Mom was sooo against me wearing acrylic so I would buy a pack of nails and rock them on the weekends. Giiiiirl, you couldn’t tell me nothin‘. Fast forward to high school and college where acrylics rocked my world. I’ve been acrylic free for almost two years but I have to admit…I LOVE the way these nails look.

The mess I made…

Let’s talk about the design…

French nails are so blah to me. I like how the snazzy glitter design jazzes things up a bit. I would probably never regularly wear a design like this simply because it isn’t my style but they don’t look bad!

Each box contains 24 nails in 12 sizes. Because I have such long nail beds, I just knew it would be a struggle trying to find a size that fit me. Buuuut….

I did! There were sizes for all 10 of my fingers. I loved how the length was not THAT much longer than my natural nails. I don’t like my nails looking super long.

The process…

I forgot how much of a mess applying fake nails can be. You really have to take your time. The glue STICKS and it does not budge. Which can be a good thing and a bad thing.

Good because that means the nails will stay on for at least 7-10 days! I kept mine on for 8 days.

Bad because if you make a mistake with the initial application…girl, you’re in trouble.

I love the overall though! Don’t they look like I got them done at a salon?

I think they look good!

Whatcha think?

Would you buy a pack of these?

Polish Pretty,

[EDIT: I forgot to mention the removal process. Uh....don't be like me and rip them off. They need to be soaked in pure acetone. Forcefully removing them results in 3 beat-up nails that will take months to heal. Not that I know from experience or anything. Hehe. I mean, *sobs*---Thanks Brooke!]

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya’s Summer 2009 La-Di-Da Collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Leave it to my nails to start acting a fool around the time these fabulous Summer nail polish collections are being released! I have been breaking nails left and right which has been making swatching virtually impossible. I have managed to grow them out so I can finally show off 1 of 2 Zoya Summer 2009 collections. Brace yourself…these polishes are so not for the weak!

But first…let’s have a photoshoot with the sexy six.

Note: Photographing neon polishes is craaaazy difficult. These polishes are a lot more vibrant in real life. My photos do not do them justice.

First up, Renee. This color is described as an ultra bright pink and honey…it is just that. I know this photo makes it look like it is a “safe for work” pink but it really isn’t. In real life is it is bold and the perfect summer pedi color.

‘ello there Pippa! Yep yep….it’s another yellow. Yellow nail polish is SO the color of the season. Pippa ain’t too shabby. As with most yellows, I endure some kind of application issues, but I didn’t have a problem with this one. And it only took two coats with minimal streaks. Loves it!

Say hello to my favorite polish out of the bunch. Paz is seriously the brightest color I have EVER seen. This ultra-bright neon orange polish had to force its way off of my toes. I rocked this on my toes for a good two weeks before it started to chip. If there is one color you need from this collection, this one would be it. It dries with a matte finish but with a good top coat, you can literally blind people with your toes. Seriously…

Dita is a soft dark pink berry creme. In my opinion this is the most “average” color of the bunch. Non nail polish wearin’ folx….this one is for you. Long gone are the days when colors like Dita make me swoon. Dita topped with glitter, however…..

America! I love the name of this polish. I mean…this is the ultimate red. I’m not a fan of red polishes but I can get down with this one. The creme finish is absolutely flawless. This is the kind of red that I wasn’t allowed to wear as a little girl. Wait—was I the only one who couldn’t wear red polishes until high school? LOL!

It’s my second favorite color of the bunch! Heyyyyy Ali! This color is so BRIGHT! It is an ultra bright neon pink that I found itself on my nails AND toes this past weekend. Ali is like the big sister of Renee. This is definitely a must have too!

Go Zoya! I am loviiiiing this collection. I didn’t have any application issues. Zoya polishes always apply flawlessly for me. I applied two coats for each color and I didn’t seem to have not one problem child. Pippa was a little tricky but that is the case with most yellows.

Got your eye on any of these babies here? Buy these and more for $6/bottle at Zoya.com.

Lately Zoya has been making news all over. Stay up to date with what’s going on in the Zoya world by subscribing to their blog.

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya Remove +

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

For someone who polishes her nails every day I need a GREAT nail polish remover. No, I mean spectacular! I need a remover that not only gets rid of every bit of polish on my nails, but also conditions my nails and cuticles. It would also help if it didn’t smell absolutely horrid. I never thought such a polish remover existed until I tried Zoya’s Remove +.

I don’t think that I will EVER purchase another nail polish remover.

Here’s what Zoya says about Remove +:

Color Lock-Step 1: Big Flipper Bottle filled with Remove+.Three in one-The perfect remover, nail cleaner and nail prep product all together in on great solution. Great lavender scent.”

Here’s what I say about it:

-Effective
-Smells so much better than traditional nail polish remover
-Conditions cuticles and nail beds
-Is a beautiful shade of purple.

I am kidding about that last bit but my 8 oz bottle is almost hittin’ the bottom.

My bottle was $9 and probably a little steep for a nail polish remover. However, I’ll spend the extra dollars to have my nails look the way they do after using Zoya’s Remove +.

Polish pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: Simple Nail Art

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Okay, I will be honest.

I’m really not IN to nail art. I can admire it all day. I may even play around with it a little but at the end of the day, I really prefer regular ole’ painted nails. Call it the conservative side of B if you want. I attribute my sentiments to nail art to having gone overboard with them in high school.

I had nail designs for EVERY holiday back in ‘tha day. I had looks for Christmas, Valentine’s Day and I even got my nails done in gold and green for my high school graduation.

Now and days, I don’t dabble into the nail design so much. In fact, the most I will do is this:

*snore* I know.

And even though I have products like these in my stash…

…I rarely touch them. I even did a nail art tutorial for Amor de Lacquer week, but trust me when I tell yall it is a JOKE. Instead, I found a beautiful YouTube-r who does beautiful nail art designs and her video is easy to follow along.

….and if you really want to see some dynamic nail art, check out my girl Nikki over at Ask Me Whats.

Whatcha think? Are you into nail art or not so much?
