Amor de Lacquer: Strong nails via vitamins

It’s Amor de Lacquer week!!!! All posts will be related to nail polish and nail care!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

When it comes to keeping nails strong, sometimes it starts on the inside. Aside from keeping a well balanced diet and working out every day, I also take vitamins religiously. I have been taking multi-vitamins and Vitamin C since I was a little girl. Fish oil pills have been ensuring that I get my omega 3 intake daily amd for the past 4 months or so I have been taking Biotin.

What MotherNature.com says about Biotin,

…..so far, only one nutrient—biotin, part of the B-complex—has been proven helpful for nail health in people who aren’t malnourished.” (source)

I also know that you HAVE to take biotin in conjunction with a multi-vitamin.
Of course you should do some more of your own research and talk with a doctor prior to taking any new vitamins.

Has it been working well for me? I would say so! My nails are finally as healthy as they were pre-acrylic days.

Do you take this vitamin? How do you keep your nails strong?

Polish Pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: First Look at Nfu-Oh Polish

It’s Amor de Lacquer week!!!! All posts will be related to nail polish and nail care!

If there is one brand that nail polish enthusiasts go gaga over, it is the South Korea brand Nfu-Oh. I remember first checking getting a glimpse of these beautiful babies at The Nailphile. I was in total awe. I had to have one. Or two. Or three.

Once upon a time Nfu-Oh polishes used to be extremely difficult to get a hold of. Most were shipped from Hong Kong and you can imagine those shipping fees. Luckily, I have found a little angel who lives in the States that ships Nfu-Oh polishes.

Today I will be introducing you to Nfu-Oh #51. I don’t even know how to describe this color. It has a neon purple/blue base with red/gold/green flecks and red glitter. This is a polish with personality, yall! I mean….just look at it!

But then if you photograph it with light…it looks different.

I will tell you now….it is beyond difficult to catch the essence of Nfu-Oh polishes. They are BIPs to the max. BIP meaning better in person. I’m not kidding. Let’s move on, shall we?

I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about how beautiful the bottle designs are.

The corset style bottles are not only darling but the handle makes for easy application.

Speaking of application, because this particular Nfu-Oh polish is so sheer, I like to layer it on top of a color. The best thing about the flecks floating in this polish is that you can get a dozen different looks depending on what color you use as a base.

For this look I used Zoya’s Colbie-a burgundy polish with beautiful shimmer.

Just watch how the Nfu-Oh transforms Colbie. We will use this finger to watch the transformation.

After 2 coats of Nfu-Oh, look what we have!

You MUST click on the picture above to see all of the 3D-esque dimensions of this polish. More beautiful shots of Nfu-Oh #51 in action.

Are you in love yet? I absolutely love what this polish does and plan on adding more to my stash. You can snag these from Fabuloustreet.com. They are retailed at $12.50 and shipping is free. Click HERE to order #51.

So what do you think? Is this not the most amazing polish you have ever seen?
Not impressed?

Amor de Lacquer: What Scrangie Says….

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

In honor of Amor de Lacquer Week, I was able to snag some tips from some of my favorite nail bloggers.

Scrangie

Aside from being a great nail blogger, Scrangie has the best sense of humor ever. She will not only have you wanting to purchase EVERY polish that she displays, but she will also leave you in stitches with her hilarious commentary. Here is what Scrangie says is one of her most important nail tips,

“Using a glass file is super important. Using lots of cuticle oil for moisture is also just as important. The glass file keeps your nails from splitting and peeling, and the cuticle oil does that as well but adds the benefit of keeping your nails flexible and resilient. “

Of course I had to ask darling Scrange what her favorite glass (crystal is okay too) file is and she says she likes Essie’s Crystal File and OPI’s Glass File.

Amor de Lacquer: China Glaze’s Summer Days

It’s Amor de Lacquer week!!!! All posts will be related to nail polish and nail care!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Okay honestly….I give up with trying to find the BEST Summer 2009 nail polish collection. That’s right, you heard me. No more comparing the collections. They are all simply amazing.

I have been a China Glaze fan before I even got serious about nail polish/care. Their colors always made my eyes boogle and the Summer Days collection is no exception. Even the promo is fierce!!

I was tempted to lick my fingers too when I first tried on my polishes. Out of the six, I purchased three.

Strawberry Fields

I have plenty of pink polishes but this one is probably one of my favorites. The gold glitter has an amazing pop that simply radiates in any light. I wore this color three days straight when I first got it. That says a lot!

Grape Juice

First of all, I absolutely LOVE grape juice, the actual drink. Don’t tell my Mom, fam….but when I was younger I actually looked forward to communion just so I can get a sip of that delicious grape juice. Of course now I know the real meaning but I can’t help but get excited every time I even think of grape juice. I, of course, purchased this polish because it is purple. Instead of having gold glitter, Grape Juice has silver. I don’t like it as much as I thought I would but it is a beautiful little addition to my Family of Purple Polishes.

Orange Marmalade

WOW! If this doesn’t scream, “Paint your toes with me, pleeeease!” I don’t know what polish does. This is a beautiful pedicure color. It screams for attention and looks crazy bling-y when the sun hits it. It has gold glitter and is my favorite out of the bunch.

All polishes applied perfectly and I only used 2 coats for each. I didn’t come across any problems. Grape Juice was a little streaky the first time around but achieved bottle color by the second coat. These polishes have a beautiful jelly-like consistency that don’t even need a top coat.

I got them from Head2ToeBeauty.com for only $2.99. I know for a fact that they are hard to find at Sally’s Beauty Supply’s so just do yourself a favor and get them online. They are cheaper and Head2ToeBeauty ships quickly!

So what do you think? Are these not the best summer colors ever?

Polish Pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: At Home Manicure tutorial

It’s Amor de Lacquer week!!!! All posts will be related to nail polish and nail care!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Here it is! The requested At Home manicure tutorial. I have been doing at home manicures for about a year now. Prior to that I was an active customer in nail salons. I wore acrylics from when I was 15 years old until I was about 22 years old. I am so glad that I have finally weened myself off of that drug and can pamper myself at home. It saves me time, money and I know that my products are sanitized.

You can use ANY product.

FIRST…I soak my nails in warm water with a little bit of hand soap. If I find that my nails could use some whitening, I use an Efferdent tablet or rub my nails with lemon. They are great whitening agents.

After soaking my nails for a good 10 minutes or so, I dry my hands and apply Sally Hansen’s Cuticle remover gel on my cuticles.

I then use my fingers to push my cuticles back.

Some people like to completely remove their cuticles. I, however, do not. I simply trim them and make sure that they look nice and neat. My cuticle nippers work GREAT for this.

I then take a crystal nail file and file my nails. I prefer square so that is the direction that I take each and every time.

To moisturize those cuticles, I use Burt’s Bee’s cuticle balm and go at it.

And lastly…I moisturize and massage my hands.

I do this at least once or week or every 10 days. Giving myself manicures not only assures that my nails are healthy and lookin’ good, but I swear it’s like therapy for me, yall. I love it.

Do you do at home manicures?

Amor de Lacquer: Nicole’s Nic Sticks by OPI

It’s Amor de Lacquer week!!!! All posts will be related to nail polish and nail care!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

This is a reader requested product while I have had it for quite some time, I wanted to wait until Amor de Lacquer week to show it off.

Nicole’s Nic Sticks by OPI

First of all….I must say that I love the convenience of these things. I am probably the only person in the world who has a good 4-5 bottles of nail polish in her purse. I also carry polish remover wipes as well. I can’t help it! I like being able to switch up the nail color whenever I can. Nic Sticks makes it easier as they don’t weigh down my purse the way bottles of polish do.

I also like how they are readily available. You can find them at most drugstores and Target stores. The prices vary but I was able to get mine for $8. Yes….I know. I find that is a bit steep for nail polish (considering I never spend more than $5 on mine) but the fabulous packaging made up for it.

The brush

It is pretty much the pits. Look at all of those bristles going every which-a-way. They are all different sizes and make for awful application. Here is how the brush looks compared to the average polish brush.

I don’t know what Nic was thinking when he made these sticks. The brush is bulky and an eyesore to say the least. But alas you can not judge a book by its cover. Despite the brush’s wonky look, it did pretty well with the initial application.

To get the polish ‘a flowin’, there is a little pump at the top of the stick that needs a good 3-4 presses before it sends the polish to the base of the brush.

The finished product before clean-up!

And just because I was feeling a little extra funky….

Overall, I can deal with Nic Sticks. The formula wasn’t too watery and it only took 2 coats to get a decent color. I don’t know if I’d purchase more considering the brush is a pain to deal with but I like the two that I have now. They seem to have good color selections too!

Have you tried these? Interested or not so much?

Polish Pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: MAC’s Peppermint Patti

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

How crazy is it that my last two MAC purchases have been nail polishes? Could it be that I am more into nail polish these days than eye shadows, glosses, liners and blush? Maybe. But I am having so much fun playing around in another area of beauty.

I am in love with MAC’s Peppermint Patti nail polish. It looks absolutely divine! I have gotten quite a few emails about this polish and how it looks on brown skin.

As pretty as it may look, the application was just awful. It took a good three coats. Like most creams, it is streaky but I also found that it was a little watery as well. It wasn’t fun to put on but it being so beautiful on my nails made up for it. As soon as I take China Glaze’s Caribbean Blue off of my toes, good ole’ P.Patti will go on. I think it is a beautiful Spring color.

My eyes may have been playing tricks on me but when I first saw Peppermint Patti, I thought for a quick second that it may look a little like China Glaze’s For Audrey. Opps! I was way off.

(first 2 nails are P.Patti, the ring finger and pinky are For Audrey) Peppermint Patti is more green whereas For Audrey is more blue. They look nothing alike and both are total must haves, in my opinion.

You can get Peppermint Patti at any MAC store or counter. It is currently sold out online.

Polish Pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya’s Jacy

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

I recently received my polishes for the Zoya exchange and of course I love them all! I didn’t think Jacy would impress me as much as she did. On the outside with color looks to a little shimmery plum-ish. “Blah,” I thought to myself. Nothing unique or interesting about that.”

But then I saw how spectacular it looked on the nails! Not bad at all.

FLASH

NO FLASH

As beautiful as this polish is, I am sure there are some dupes out there. Readers, help! Do yall know of any? As with most of my Zoya polishes, this baby only took a good 2 coats and I didn’t have any problems with it. Even though I prefer “out there” colors, I still have an appreciation for the berry nail polishes of the world. I always think they are safe colors but for every now and then….they aren’t so bad.

I would love to hear your thoughts!

I am still preppin’ up for Amor de Lacquer week here at Clumps of Mascara. Look at what I have in store…

Just when you thought purple polishes couldn’t get any better–purple glittery polish!!

Nfu-Oh polishes…so many colors in just one stroke. Not glitter, but flecks? How does it do that?

China Glaze’s Summer Days’ collection makes me want to run through Strawberry fields.

Stay tuned, fam! Please send me all of your requests and suggestions on what you would like to see during Amor de Lacquer week.

Stay beautiful,
