Mascara Monday: Urban Decay Cannonball Ultra Waterproof mascara

Ahhh yesss, what beach babe doesn’t need a good waterproof mascara? Here’s the thing…I don’t actually WEAR mascara when I’m going to the beach. But if I’ve been out and about all day and then head to the pool or beach, a waterproof mascara is totally ideal. They are also fantastic for ladies with allergies, heavy sweaty Betty’s (like me) and anyone who wants a mascara that will last all day.

This isn’t the first time Urban Decay has done a waterproof mascara. But this is the first time I’ve really been excited about one. I mean…ULTRA waterproof? That just sounds cool, uh?

Price: $20 at Sephora stores and Sephora.com
Packaging (brush wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 3 out of 5

What It Claims: Per Sephora.com

Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara’s light gel formula has been rigorously field-tested in the ocean as well as the sweat-drenched gym. The exclusive Japanese formula refuses to budge. A special microcrystalline wax works with the dense, fuzzy brush to increase seductive length and volume, without ever flaking off and compromising your lashes’ natural feathery texture. Mermaids can now sing their siren songs with abandon, and high maintenance types can cry all they want. (source)

The Truth: I totally love that Urban Decay used “mermaid” in describing how awesome the mascara is. Ha!!

What I Loved About It: It has a very cool wand. VERY cool. And if you look closely, you’ll notice that it is indeed a fiber mascara.

What I Didn’t Like: It really wasn’t all that ultra. Waterproof? Sure. Ultra? Meh. And I would have loved more volume. But you knew I would say that, uh?

Overall: I’m not sure what I expected when I first tried this mascara. When I review waterproof mascaras, I put them under quite a bit of scrutiny. They not only have to be awesome when it comes to not budging a bit when it comes in contact with water, sweat or humidity, but they must also provide a good amount of volume. I mean, what’s the point of a rocking mascara if it doesn’t really LOOK like I have on mascara? Know what I mean? That said, Cannonball is just okay. I didn’t find it to be terribly volumizing and while it did okay while splashing at the beach, I noticed that it began flaking a bit after awhile. Womp. That sucks. I expected more. The “Lashes after 2 Coats” picture shows a bit of flakiness I got hours after applying the mascara. It wasn’t a complete bust because I still have some mascara on the lashes. But not enough that satisfies the “I need big lashes” monster inside of me.

Bare Lashes

Lashes with 2 Coats of mascara

Do I recommend it?: If you’re in the mood to try something new, give it a whirl. But if you’re a “I need super volumized lashes” kind of gal, this mascara ain’t the one for you.

But I can’t help but love the name. I love Urban Decay and their unique product names.

Have you tried this mascara yet? Whatcha think?

Mascara Monday: COVERGIRL Lash Perfection mascara

Wow wow wow, looks like COVERGIRL is hitting us with not one but TWO new mascaras this summer season. These brands crack me up. They’ll be quiet for months on the mascara front and within month they’ll start releasing a bunch at a time. Not that I’m complaining but it doesn’t make me chuckle a bit.

Word on the beauty bloggin’ street (because you don’t know there’s a street, right? ;) ) is that Lash Perfection is supposed to be a lot like Max Factor’s Volume Couture mascara; which, by the way, was one of my FAVORITE mascaras of all time. When Max Factor left the States so did my ability to purchase them. Needless to say I was super excited to try Lash Perfection. Is it like my beloved Volume Couture mascara?

Mascara Monday: Maybelline the Falsies Black Drama vs. Maybelline the Falsies Flared mascaras

I’m working on getting the formal review up but in the meantime, check out my video review comparing the two here.

Which one are you lovin’ the most?

[NOTE: Clumps has been a little buggy and I’m working on getting the kinks out. Thanks for the tweets and emails letting me know my e-baby is actin’ a hot mess.] 8)

Mascara Monday: Essence Mania Carbon Black mascara

Have y’all ever heard of the brand Essence? They’ve been on my radar for about a year or so and I am just now beginning to dabble in some of their products. So far I’m pretty impressed. Especially with the price tag of most of their products being under $5. Their mascaras aren’t any different. Just how good can a mascara retailed around $3 be? Let’s seeee….

Mascara Monday: Lancome Oscillation Intensity

It’s a well known Clumps of Mascara fact that I am a HUGE fan of Lancôme’s mascara. Virtually every one I’ve tried has been up to par. I haven’t come across one that I wouldn’t recommend. I was super excited that they came out with another vibrating mascara. For a while, I thought the vibrating mascara trend had slowly faded away. But I’m glad to see that Lancôme is showing that there IS a place for them.  Let’s see how Ôscilliation Intensity did…

Mascara Monday: COVERGIRL NatureLuxe mascara

It seems like it’s been forever and a day since I’ve reviewed a mascara from COVERGIRL. They’ve been doin’ splendid things in the lipstick world so I was glad to see that they finally dropped a new lipstick with their NatureLuxe collection. The premise behind this collection (which also includes foundations and lip balms) is that MORE natural ingredients are included and some synthetic ingredients are removed. That’s always a good thing, uh? Let’s see how this kid works…

Mascara Monday: Smashbox Full Exposure mascara

I love me some Smashbox. I think they are more popular among makeup artists and industry professionals than the everyday makeup lover, but trust me, girlfriends. If you haven’t tried anything from Smashbox just yet…you’ve got to start showin’ them some love. And that would include their newest mascara.

Price: $19(from Smashbox.com)
Packaging (brush wand): 3 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What It Claims: “Inspired by the on-set technique of layering a lengthening fiber mascara over a volumizing formula, our new studio-tested mascara exposes your longest, fullest lashes. No clumps, no flakes. Just maximum-impact, scene-stealing lashes.

• 104% increase in lash volume
• 32% increase in lash length
• 34-degree increase in lash curl” (source)

The Truth: Not a bad mascara. I’m impressed.

What I Loved About It: It lasted ALL day. It doesn’t have a waterproof formula but I loved that it didn’t flake off or smudge away.

What I Didn’t Like: I would have liked a liiiiittle more volume.

Overall: I’ve tried a few Smashbox mascaras and they’ve been average at best. You know…not OMG amaziiiiing but not terrible either. I was happy to see that this mascara was closer on the OMG amaziiiiiing side. I was really impressed at how dark and lush it made my lashes with only 2 coats. And that’s not easy to do with a wand like this…

I’m not against this wand but I know that it may give some ladies a few troubles. It’s really hard to get a wand like this to breeze through the lashes. You may accidentally bump it on your lower lashline. And it’s hella hard to apply it to the lower lashes. But once you get the hang of it, I think you’ll be happy at Full Exposure’s results. I DO wish that it gave me just a little more volume but I say that about every mascara. Ha! And because the formula is a little on the thick side, 2 coats is all you’ll need. More than that will send you straight to Clumps City.

Do I recommend it?: I do! It is hereby my FAVORITE mascara from Smashbox!
