Vegan Aftershave for the fella in your life…

Esposo isn’t the kind of man that feels the need to slather on cologne every day of the week. Which is a shame because I’m a woman that loves a man who smells good. But I get it. Esposo works in a high-energy industry where he’s liftin’, programmin’ and moving around for 12 hours a day. Cologne is so not needed.

But still. Being the husband of a beauty blogger means I can subtlety push products on him. Such was the case with Aubrey Organics’ Men’s Stock City Rhythms Aftershave.

Handsome, isn’t he? Men or their SO’s can scoop this fragrance and two others like it at natural health food stores for less than $10 for a 4oz bottle. Not too shabby. Esposo shaves almost every day so I thought he’d be a good candidate for using something like this.

Ingredients-wise, the aftershave certainly has a whoooole lot less than what many aftershaves on the market has.

INGREDIENTS INCI: Alcohol denat., aqua, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf juice*, glycerin, cedrus atlantica (cedar) oil, santalum album (sandalwood) oil, pogostemon cablin (patchouli) oil, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) oil, cananga odorata (ylang) oil, panax ginseng root extract.
*Organic (source)

I love the inclusion of sandalwood and bergamont as those are some of my favorite essential oils. Witch hazel and aloe both have cooling properties, making them perfect for men to use after shaving. And while I proudly ride the “less is better” when it comes to ingredients train, Esposo just…well, he could care less.

Scent-wise I got more of an alcohol-smell in this more than anything. To the product’s defense, it iiiiis the first ingredient on the list. The cedar and sandalwood scents were there but seemed to wear off of Esposo’s cheeks and neck within hours. Boo.

What Esposo says:
I’m not one of these guys that really cares about the whole tree hugging, anti-artifical movement. I’m not against it either, but the whole #AllNaturalEverything schtick can get wearisome. Especially when it jacks up the price of products I’d otherwise purchase.

That being said, the concept of an all natural cologne/aftershave is pretty cool , but the execution was a bit underwhelming. Don’t worry guys, it doesn’t smell like flower petals or anything remotely feminine. It does however remind me of something my dad might wear, and that is definitely not the business. It feels cool and refreshing going on, but the scent is too mellow and old school for my tastes. I prefer something a bit brighter and spicier. It’ll probably work for some guys out there, but that’s not my bag, baby.

Ah well. Packaging-wise the splash is still sophisticated and sleek and perhaps the other fragrances are up to par.

Whatcha think ladies and gents? Yay or nay vegan aftershaves?

A great body scrub for when the sand at the beach isn’t available….

Did I tell y’all I went to the Bahamas a few weeks ago? Yep! Esposo and I took a quick 3-day cruise to one of my favorite islands. Too bad we didn’t get to do much because sooooomeone hurt himself after falling off of a scooter. The other someone has been playing nurse ever since. Womp.

I’m a Florida girl who loves beaches. For many reasons but primarily because the sand is so exfoliating. Yep. You heard correctly. I mix sand and water and exfoliate my feet, legs and hands right on the beach. I should probably be embarrassed about admitting this, but I’m not.

Since I couldn’t get my beach scrubbin’ on, I’ve been playin’ around with Pooka Pure & Simple’s Sugar Body Polish.

Oh girl. This is the bomb dot com.

Not all scrubs are the same, ya know. Some are great for exfoliating but in return they can leave the skin a bit rough. Which totally defeats the point of scrubbing, right? Pooka Pure & Simple’s Sugar Body Polish has cane sugar and coconut oil so I can get my scrub on and moisturize at the same time. It’s wonderful. Pomegrante and kiwi are two of my favorite fruits so the fragrance is definitely up my alley. But can I be honest? I’d love this just as much if it was fragrance-free.

Bits of kiwi seed greet me at each handful…

…and after sloughing away the dead skin cells, I am left with super soft and moisturized skin. The 12 oz tub goes for $20 and Pooka Pure & Simple also has Coconut Crunch and Guava Berry scents as well.

Yes girl. Yes. You can pick up a tub here.

A fan of body scrubs are you, darlings?

Bliss Rubberizing Mask. I know…weird, uh?

When it comes to at-home masks, I’ve tried it all. I’ve made my own and I’ve purchased a whoooole ‘lot too. From the clay masks to the masks that taste good enough to eat, I’ve come across one that is blowing mind. It’s a rubberizing mask.

And no. I couldn’t make this up.

Bliss’ Fabulous Skin-Reviving Rubberizing mask is perhaps one of the most innovative face masks I’ve EVER come across. It’s cool, weird, fun and creepy all at the same time.

According to Sephora.com “This straight-from-the-spa mask provides an absorption-enhancing rubber texture to deliver bright and healthy skin. It fends off free radicals, calms skin, and helps even out skin’s tone and texture, leaving a vibrant and refreshed-looking complexion.”

Well, um okay. I’ve never had a mask promise that it would fend off free radicals but alriiiiighty then. And unlike other masks, this one does not come packaged and ready to go. After popping open the box, out tumbled 6 packets of powder-y solution…

And wooden stir thingies…

A plastic scoop also flew out and according to the instructions I was to pour some water in that cup along with the powder-y solution.

And then stir until it created a paste…

Beautiful, uh? Now what’s in this concoction, you ask?

A whole bunch of ingredients I can’t pronounce, that’s for sure. But on a good note, the paste felt suuuuper cooling.

I couldn’t waiiiiit to slather it all over my skin.

Oooopey goopey goodness. 15-20 minutes later and it got all rubber-y and was ready to remove…

My skin afterwards…

Pro’s
-The cooling sensation this masks gives is just amaziiiiiing. It felt so good going on.
-Removing was fun! Because some parts of the mask didn’t remove easily, I ended up having to wipe the rest off with a warm washcloth.
-It didn’t dry out my skin.
-My skin felt smoother immediately after removing mask.
-I like mixing and stirring action that takes place before applying the mask.

Con’s
-The fragrance was too strong. This is the kind of mask that would have been just fine if it were fragrance-free.
-I didn’t notice any significant changes in my skin other than the softness.
-It’s a fun mask but isn’t all that effective if you’re looking to target something specific.

At $38 for 6 packets at Sephora, I would say this one expensive mask. The box mentions that is best used once a week so if you used it weekly, you’d only get a good month and a half usage out of it. But still, it’s one the most fun masks I’ve ever used and I’ll definitely be saving the remaining packets for Girls’ Night In.

Whatcha think? Are rubberized masks too gimicky or kinda cool?

3 Beauty Treatments I Realllly Want To Do

You gals know how I am. As much as I looooove makeup, it’s really skincare that’s my first love. What comes next is a statement that I promise you’ll never hear me say (err, write) ever again. In a sense, having adult acne is a blessing because it has allowed to realize just how important my skin is. Yeah – I know. I just used “acne” and “blessing” in the same sentence. I promise this Florida heat hasn’t driven me mad.

What I mean is…I really care about my skin. Despite the adult acne, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, dermatitis, eczema and childhood scars, I really take pride in my skin. Which sounds crazy, but come on…considering it covers MOST of my body, how can I not love the skin that I’m in? Lately I’ve been dabbling around with the idea of treating my skin to luxurious treatments and I’ve narrowed down three that I want to plan to have this year.

Algae Body Treatment

Okay, I proooomise I didn’t make this one up. And I know it sounds weird and icky but if you’ve ever read a description of what an algae body treatment entails, I guarantee you, you’d be tossing your pennies over to a spa. Quite frankly, the thought of being covered in seaweed and relaxing while the seaweed goes to work to not only draw out toxins from my skin but ALSO provide moisture, sounds just divine. I’d attempt to do this at home, but honestly…how much algae can you gather from the ocean before you start to look like a creep?

Microdermabrasion

I’ve only had one facial in my entire life and while I don’t feel so inclined to have another one (it huuuurt!), I would totally do microdermabrasion. I exfoliate regularly, but microdermabrasion is like exfoliating to the 10th power. In a good way, of course. A good microdermabrasion treatment removes those dead skin cells and can reveal baby soft smooth skin for days and weeks at a time. Sign me up, yo! And while microdermabrasion can be a bit on the pricey side, I do like the fact that there are plenty of products on the market that can allow me to do microdermabrasion at home. Score! You can find a great selection of these products online, at retailers like ShopNBC.

Paraffin Wax Hand Treatment

Oooh how I’d love nothing more than super smooth hands. Unfortunately, I’m not so sure that I have ‘em. Because I find them uncomfortable, I don’t wear gloves when I lift weights at the gym aaaand so I’ve got blistered up gym hands.

Unsexy, I know. And despite my obsession of regularly moisturizing my hands, my hands still aren’t as soft as I’d like them to be. Regular dips into a tub of hot parrafin wax would do my hands some good. Mama Clumps used to have one back in the day. Maybe I’ll go rummaging in her garage to look for it the next time I visit.

What about you? Any spa treatments that you’d drop your pennies on? Facials, scrubs, body wraps? Or how about pedicures where little fish eat your dead skin cells?

Anyone?

Cleanin’ pretty with Nuance Salma Hayek’s Facial Cleansing Towelettes

Did y’all know the gorgeous Salma Hayek had a line at CVS Pharmacy? I didn’t! Aaaand, did you know the collection primarily consists of paraben-free products? Of course that reason is why I am already so in love with the brand. I’ve got my hands on a few of the products but first up, I’ll be showcasing the amazing Detoxifying Facial Cleansing & Toning Towelettes.

These are just wonderful. Especially for lazy biddies like me who want to wash their faces at night but don’t feel like going through the whole ‘turn the water on, lather up, massage, rinse and dry’ thing. Don’t get me wrong. Washing the face is ALWAYS a must but I love these towelette alternatives. And since these have so many claims, well…I expected a lot.

What the towelettes say they’ll do:

Cleanse and soothe the skin in one step with a gentle blend of Quillaja Extract, Chamomile and Citric Acid, balanced to remove impurities, soften and moisturize.

Packaging-wise, I think the 25 pre-moistened towelettes for $7.99 is a pretty good deal. I do wish they would have rounded off to 30 though. That way, at least you’d have a month worth of towelettes.

Opening, closing and removing towelettes is easy enough.

I love that there is sturdy plastic cover. Many brands have stickers on their facial towelettes and while they may work, they often dry the towelettes out quicker. This top will ensure that the cleanser stays ON the towelette without drying up.

For a second, I thought that these would be great for removing makeup too, but nope…stick with cleansing the skin. These are nice and cotton-y but also lint-ty. Which is great for removing concealer, foundation and the day’s dirt from the skin but not for removing mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow.

Your best bet is to thoroughly remove eye makeup before using these.

Ingredients-wise, I can so appreciate how these are paraben and alcohol-free.

I do take the term “Non-irritating” with a grain of salt though. Everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products, ya know?

Pro’s

-Perfect for traveling, overnight bags or for keeping at your desk or in your car for quick “I need to refresh my face” fixes.
-Wipe stays moistened long enough to clean the face…and neck. 8)
-Feels REALLY good and my dry skin doesn’t feel all tight afterwards.
-Oh yeah…it’s paraben-free. Y’all know how much I appreciate paraben-free products.

Con’s

-The fragrance of these is a little strong for me. I definitely wish they were fragrance-free. I’d love them so much more. Buuuut, the fragrance definitely doesn’t linger so that’s a good thing.
-Because they are a bit linty, you want to avoid the eye area to prevent lint from falling into the eyes.

Overall: I really like these. They are the perfect addition to the other Nuance Salma Hayek items. I so think all makeup lovin’ guys and gals should keep facial towelettes on hands. Not just for those lazy days but also for cleaning up brushes quickly. I loves ‘em.

Are you a fan of cleansing towelettes?

My current facial cleanser. What are you washing your face with these days?

I’ve found a new face cleanser! This is a big deal, y’all. Despite being a beauty blogger, I am far from a product junkie. I stick with what works and while I may review a ton of skincare products, I usually stick with the same ones until they run out. What I review and don’t use, I often donate and pass over to those who I know who I know will use them. I just hate being wasteful, ya know?

A few weeks ago I was roaming through Chamberlin’s Natural Foods store here in Orlando and found myself venturing in the skincare lanes. I’m so ridic. I can MAKE my own skincare products but still feel the need to “buy” some. I’m no Mama Clumps. I don’t have the patience to make my own stuffs. And soooo I buy. This go ’round, I picked up a cleanser from a brand that I’ve never heard of.

Dr. Woods, uh? Is this Dr. Bronner’s cousin? Ha! I vigorously scanned the ingredients list and LOVED that there wasn’t any artificial fragrances in it. Too many times brands say a product is natural but then dump a ton of artificial fragrances in it. Which always annoys me.

This cleanser is so wonderful, y’all. So wonderful. I’ve found a keeper and don’t see myself venturing away from this one any time soon.

Pro’s

-Contains tea tree oil. My favorite all-natural pimple bustin’ agent.
-Includes peppermint oil and that makes the skin feel rejuvenated.
-A little goes a long way.
-Has a mint-y/tea tree oil smell to it. Which I really like but I can see how it may turn off others.
-Nice clear consistency. I prefer clear cleansers over creamy ones. Even though they may not be the best for my dry skin, I feel like they do a better job at drying out those pimples.
-Minimal ingredients!

Con’s

-Can dry the skin out. You have to apply moisturizer quickly!
-Pretty pricey in stores. I paid almost $12 for it but saw that you can get it online for as low as $4.69!

So yeah, I love everything about this cleanser. And I love that I can get it online for almost HALF of what I paid for it. Between this cleanser, my Weleda Almond moisturizer and Boscia masks, I have a nice line-up of preservative-free facial care products.

I love featuring ALL products here on Clumps but for every day use? I stick to all-natural, baby. With my acne flare-up’s, gentler is better, ya know?

What cleanser are your currently using these days?

Milani’s Illuminating Powders are almost TOO pretty to use

Anyone ever watch the show Hoarders? Centered around people who “hoard” items, this show takes you on a journey inside the mayhem that these people live in. While shocking, it’s always sad because usually the hoarder had a breaking point in their lives that MADE them hold on to material things. Sometimes it’s the death of a loved one, feeling abandoned after their kids move away or divorce.

Anyway – I have a girlfriend who has me thisclose to calling Hoarders on her. She hasn’t had any recent traumatic events in her life but she hoards more makeup than anyone I know. She has a collection of more than 200 blushes that she doesn’t even use because she says they are “too pretty to touch”. That’s right. 200 perfect blushes that have never touched her cheeks. When I showed her these new Milani Illuminatizing Powders, she shrieked and told me she couldn’t wait to add these to her “Too Pretty To Touch” collection.

Crazy, right? Don’t worry. Said friend doesn’t mind that I put her story on blast. She assures me that there are probably hundreds of beauty hoarders out there. Eeek!

Beauty hoarder or not, if you’re a Milani fan, you’re going to love these. Milani is doin’ it BIG this season girlfriends and if you didn’t know, you better ask somebody. These Illuminating Face Powders are ah-mazing.

Gorgeous, right?

These babies can be used as a highlighter, bronzer or blush. Whatever fits your fancy.

First up is Amber Nectar…

Combining a gold finish with a touch of rose, Amber Nectar is the perfect combination of her other two siblings. She’s got a few micro-sparkles goin’ and while she may be a little too cool for my complexion but I’m sure other gals can rock Am Nec beautifully.

Beauty’s Touch is my favorite…

If you are taking baby steps into wearing blushes and want to wear something with a little color, this is the route to go. Beauty’s Touch’s golden notes are toned down a bit on the cheeks and what you’re left with is a shimmery pink finish.

Swatches….

(L-R) Amber Nectar, Beauty’s Touch, Hermosa Rose

And then there’s Hermosa Rose.

Despite the “rose” in the name, I think AR has more gold in it than anything else. In fact, it’s the closest powder to a true bronzer. That said, after Beauty’s Touch, it’s my favorite.

Pro’s:
-Beautiful and subtle shimmer.
-Perfect for blush beginners. It gives enough coverage without being too intimidating.
-A little goes a long way.
-The packaging. How beautiful are those flowers?
-Even with multiple uses, the flowers stick around. Yay!

Con’s:
-May be tricky to apply. Because it’s so sheer, you may actually have on more than you think. I found the best way to apply this was with a skunk/stipling brush.
-If you aren’t a fan of gold shimmers, you may not like these because all 3 of these are gold based.
-It isn’t very long-lasting. After about 5 hours, my cheeks weren’t as golden as they were when I first applied.

Hermosa Rose on my cheeks…

So yep, while these are subtle, I still love the glow that they give my cheekies. Some days I don’t feel like putting a ton of color on my cheeks, so these are absolutely fantastic. They are in drugstores now for about $8.99 and online for $9.49.

Whatcha think? Yay or nay?

Soft skin and lips with NIVEA’s newest.

Okay, quick crazy story about NIVEA. And I do mean quick. For the longest I would call Nivea (pronounced Niv-E-ya) Na-vay-ya. And I was so obsessed with how it sounded, that I promised myself that I would name my first child Nivea. Of course I made this declaration when I was like…14.

Wait – so I was the only teen who already had their babies’ names picked out? Come on, y’all. Confess it up. I knowwww I wasn’t the only one. 8) For the record, I have since dropped that name for a potential Clumps kid. I do have other names picked out though. Bahahaaa!

Anywhoovers, good ole’ NIVEA has some new goodies for us skincare lovers and I just had to share them with you.

I’ve got super sensitive skin and so I stick to using a strict regimen of preservative-free skincare products but every now and then I like to review the popular brands of the world. Let’s check out the babies of the bunch first.

These lippes are pretty, uh? NIVEA A Kiss of Vitamin Swirl is packed with antioxidant-rich fruit extracts. It has a subtle hint of color. So subtle that if your lips are pigmented you probably wouldn’t notice it. The blue one (Kiss of Mint & Minerals) has organic shea butter and jojoba butter in it. Since it’s “mint”, you’re going to get that tingly mint feeling that you either really love or really hate. I don’t mind it. Aside from tasting a little funny, I dug these lip balms. Vitamin Swirl had a faint fruity scent and smell and Kiss of Mint & Minerals is minty. They don’t last forever but while they are on the lips, they keep the lippies moisturized. These babies retail for $2.99.

Next up is NIVEA’s Touch of Renewal Lathering Body Scrub with HYRDRA IQ.

I formally made the switch to handmade bar soaps but every now and then I get the urge to use a bodywash. It’s an exfoliating body wash that has a thick lather. I love how it feels but the fragrance is pretty strong. Almost TOO strong. It has a nice and clean smell but it was overpowering and just a bit too much for moi.

Still, if you’re in the perfect for a luscious body wash that polishes the skin to a smooth finish, you’ll love this one. It goes for $5.99.

And theeeeen there’s NIVEA’s Extended Moisture Daily Lotion.

Okay remember – just because the packaging says the lotion will last for 48 hours doesn’t mean you HAVE to wear it for 48 hours. ;) Even so, I love how this lotion feels. It isn’t greasy or watery like some drugstore lotions can be. It sinks into the skin nicely without a filmy finish and does a darn good job at bustin’ ash.

Plus, it doesn’t have a loud fragrance like its brother, the body wash. It goes for $7.99.

You can grab all of these goodies at CVS Pharmacy. CVS so rocks, yo. Have you tried anything from NIVEA lately?
