6 Reasons Why Laura Mercier and Lancome Rock

DSC_4026

Yassss – two of my favorite higher-end brands. I love me some Laura Mercier and Lancome. LOVE. Lancome comes out with some of the best mascaras and Laura Mercier’s foundation, tinted moisturizer and lippies are just…golden. Neither brand can do any wrong in my book. A gal pal of me texted me the other day trying to get some product ideas. She’s interested in dabbling into higher-end cosmetics but didn’t know where to start. And soooo I’m making this list for her. Yep, there are benefits to having a beauty blogger for a friend.

  •  Laura Mercier has brown-girl friendly foundations. And they rock! FACT: It is crazy hard finding higher-end cosmetic brands that have a ton of different shades. Laura Mercier have plenty and I’ve found that the ones that I’ve tried have matched me perfectly.
  • Lancome makes the best mascaras. Trust me on this, y’all. As someone who has tried almost 200 mascaras, I know who has the best. And it’s Lancome. If you’re going to spend more than $20 on a mascara, you want it to work. And if you’re using one from Lancome, you can guarantee that it’s going to give you amaziiiiing lashes.
  • Laura Mercier launches spectacular seasonal collections. Lots of brands come out with collections that have products that are pretty but aren’t practical. They’ll launch palettes that look good but chances are you won’t use it. Not Laura Mercier. Their seasonal goodies are always something you can use over and over again.
  • Lancome’s Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover is the BEST. I dare you to find a better eye makeup remover. I’ve tried several but still keep coming back to the old faithful that is Bi-Facil.
  • Laura Mercier has a tinted moisturizer that will make you swoon. It’s hard to find a good tinted moisturizer that won’t make you greasy but will also take care of those of us who have super dry skin. Laura Mercier’s rocks!
  • Lancome knows what they’re doing in the anti-aging department. I haven’t been that strict with my anti-aging regimen just yet but when I’m ready, I’m totally going to Lancome. They have so many products that can tackle those wrinkles before they even pop up.

Any Lancome or Laura Mercier lovers in the house? What are some of your favorite products by them?

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post but all opinions are my own.

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Pink Sith – During some recent image searches I happened upon the Bloomin’ Beauty Blog. This blog is filled with great images and reviews of high end makeup, making it one of my newly favorite blogs to visit, and also dangerous for my bank account!

Question of the Week:

What’s your current favorite face powder and why?

B says, “I used to adore tarte’s Hotel Heiress but when I ran out and couldn’t find it at Sehora’s, I tried the Nuance Salma Hayek powder and it’s fantastic. In fact, it’s the only thing I wear on my face most days.”

Do you wear face powders? Which one is your fave?

Tarte’s Girl Meets Gloss Collector’s Set

Welp. Tarte does it again. Like they alwaysssss do it. They always know how to make me swoon. Look at these glosses…

Don’t they look all juicy-fied? I’m hoping they aren’t a holiday-exclusive thing because honestly, I’m going to need to have access to these year-round. All 5 shades are perfect for all complexions. They are sheer enough to wear solo but you can also layer them for some extra moisturization and shine to your lippies.

One day moisturization will be a word but until then I’m going to keep rockin’ it regularly. M’kay?

Like all Tarte products, these are preservative-free so they are free from sulfates, phthalates and parabens so if you’ve got crazy sensitive skin issues, these should be okay. Tarte has been on this maracuja oil kick (not that I’m complaining) so the glosses all have a dose of the magical oil in them. Tarte also says that the inclusion of the oil is supposed to help plump the lips but honestly…my lippies are already pretty grande so it’s hard to tell. Ha!

3 pretty babies from butter LONDON’s Holiday nail polish collection

DSC_4459

My nails have been crazy funky wonky the past few weeks and they were unavailable for pretty swatches but I still wanted to showcase  3 of  the 5 polishes that butter LONDON is giving us for the holidays. And can I just say how excited I was to even see this collection? I didn’t expect to see another release before the new year. Woo hoo! Go bL!

DSC_4467

DSC_4474

Scallywag is a full coverage, bright turquoise glitter with a clear base. I applied 2 coats to the nail wheel and that’s really all this polish needs. I’m not even sure how well it could work as a layering polish because it’s THAT opaque. Which is A-OK with me. Removal is gonna suck with a glitter like this, but man…is she not worth it?

DSC_4469

DSC_4479

Jack the Lad is an opaque, moss green shimmer with gold, turquoise and green micro glitter. It isn’t nearly as opaque as Scallywag and it’ll take 3 maybe even 4 coats to reach an opaque finish. It’s beautiful but it can be a bit streaky so patience in between coats is what this polish needs.

DSC_4484

Scuppered is an opaque, copper shimmer infused with pink, gold and green glitter and it’s something quite to see. I’ve never seen a polish like this before. The consistency is just like Jack the Lad in that it requires a few coats.

The crew altogether…

DSC_4486

Missing from this collection is Fairy Cakes, a silvery holographic glitter and Fiddlesticks, a raspberry magenta glitter. I adore glitters polishes so I think this is a perfect holiday collection. You’ve got the traditional red, green and silvery polishes but they have a nice glittery spin to them. Way to go, buttah!

Cost: $14/each

Where To Buy: Ulta, Ulta.com and butterlondon.com

Whatcha think, butter LONDON lovers? Is this not a fantastic holiday nail polish collection or what?

St. Ives eliminates even MORE bad stuffs from their products!

I know many folx think this whole “preservative-free” and “natural skincare” thing is just another way for brands to trick us into thinking we HAVE to buy their products. Many brands tote titles like cruelty-free, all natural and organic to convince us that their products are more superior than the ones that don’t tote these titles. As a skeptic, beauty editor and consumer, I raise a side eye to all of ‘em. But at the same time, I do celebrate when brands claim that they’ve eliminated harmful ingredients from their products. Since I suffer from skin issues that are exacerbated when I use products that are drowned in fragrance, sulfates and other artificial preservatives, I LOVE when brands remove them altogether. Three cheers for St. Ives! And why?

Their scrubs are now sulfate-free. In the past few years, they have also removed parabens and phthalates from their products as well. Way to go St. Ives!

The sulfate-free scrubs include the following:

  • St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub
  • St. Ives Timeless Skin Apricot Scrub
  • St. Ives Blemish Control Green Tea Scrub
  • St. Ives Sensitive Skin Apricot Scrub

I’m excited. Now if they add a fragrance-free scrub to their line-up, I’Il be their BFF ‘fo life yo. I’m serious. I know fragrance-free is tough for brands because people love to smell pretty but let’s face it – artificial fragrances can oftentimes be as damaging to skin as phthalates. And don’t even get me started on the migraine triggering they can do. By the way, like all St. Ives products, you can grab these at drugstores nationwide for no more than $6 a bottle.

Are you more likely to use a brand if they claim to be preservative-free? Or are you all about using what works for your skin and lifestyle?

Red lips ‘n Q-tips + Sephora.com gift card giveaway (2 winners!)

Time for another Q-tips post and giveaway! I feel like I total crazy person for not remembering what makeup artist I heard this from (was it Sam Fine, Bobbi Brown, Tia Williams, Napoleon Perdis…who?!) but a while back I heard that dabbing red eyeshadow over red lipstick can help said lipstick last longer. Say what? And I mean, it makes complete sense. It’s one of those things that when you hear it, you’re like, “Wha?! Why didn’t I think of that?”

So of course when the time came to do another Q-tips post, I figured I’d show y’all how using Q-tips can indeed help make a red lip last longer.

First up, choose a fabulous red lipstick.

I mean, you do have some, don’t you? If not – that’s another post in itself. Hehe! I’m using Revlon’s Certainly Red. It’s been my go to red lipstick all summer. Apply said red.

Certainly Red has a semi-matte finish, which I find makes applying the eyeshadow easier. After application, I grab a red eyeshadow like NARS Emmanuelle.

Swirl a Q-tip around in the eyeshadow and gently dab on the lips. I looks as if both the Precision Tips Q-tips and regular Q-tips work just fine for applying the eyeshadow.

I find that dabbing the shadow in the middle of the lips works best as that’s the area I tend to see fade first. If you get a good amount of eyeshadow on the Q-tip, you won’t have to worry about any fuzzies. Which is fantastic! Of course this trick really only works if you don’t intend on applying lipgloss on top of your lipstick. I’m a fan of non-glossy red lips!

Pretty cool lil’ trick, uh? And yeah, I blame pregnancy hormones for making my skin break out the way it is. Could it be that I’m having a little girl who is trying to steal my beauty? Hmmm….

And nooooow, zee giveaway! TWO lucky Clumps of Mascara readers will each score ONE $50 Sephora.com gift card. Answer the mandatory question in the Rafflecopter (you must submit a comment to do this) and increase your chances of winning by doing the other tasks.

Note: Give the Rafflecopter a few seconds to load. If you’re rather submit your entry via email, please do so by emailing me at Brittany @ClumpsOfMascara.com.

The newest COVERGIRL? – P!nk!!

I’m excited! Guess who the newest COVERGIRL is? P!nk!

I looooove P!nk so so much. She’s got this bad ass “Either accept me or leave me alone” kind of attitude. Oh! And she can actually sing too. Which, ya know….says a lot these days. It’s very rare that I get excited about celebrities but P!nk is my homegirl in my head. Kinda like how COVERGIRL Queen Latifah is my Aunt is my head.

Yeah.

Can’t wait to see what fabulous things P!nk’s collaboration with COVERGIRL brings us. Weeee! Any other P!nk fans in the house?

I’m Not Gone – Just Kinda…Out

I don’t know if it’s the summer heat or what, y’all but I am beat. It’s been a rough few weeks with travels from New Jersey for a business trip and then a family reunion in Ohio. And I STILL haven’t found the time to effectively organize The Beauty Studio. My sister was visiting last week and took it upon herself to organize it to the point where I could actually see the floor and I am beyond grateful for that.

Of course I had to relinquish a good 20 polishes but whatev. I say it’s a fair trade.

Anywhoovers, my blogging mojo is on the fritz for now but instead of not blogging at all, I’ll be cutting back and only blogging a minimum of 3 times a week. Fair enough? Hopefully in the next few weeks, I’ll be back on my A-game.

Have a fabulous weekend!
