New Year, New Age!

Hey y’all! Guess who turned 27 yesterday? Yours truly. I’m one of those women that promise to never lie about her age. Because what’s the point? The way I see it growth, experience and wisdom all come with age. Wrinkles, health problems and memory loss may come too but hey, I’m deciding to see the bright side of things as I grow older.

That said, I’m taking a break today and shall return with a hot new post tomorrow. I took the day off from work to extend my birthday. Ooooh yeah! 8)

Oh! And I walked on the wild side and got an iPhone. I took all of the above photos with Instagram. I am beyond obsessed with that app. You can follow me on there (ClumpsOfMascara) and if you’re a Instagram junkie too, let me know so I can follow you back!

It’s beginning to smell…a lot like Christmas.

If there is one holiday that can be easily captured by scent, it would be Christmas. Seriously. Pine needles, cranberries, gingerbread, spiced pumpkin, peppermint….all can easily transport me to my favorite holiday just by a sniff. This Deck The Halls candle by Slatkin & Co. has managed to do the exact same thing.

And don’t even ask me how. That secret is with the candle elves or somethin’.

Are you a candle lover? I absolutely love them. Sometimes I’ll flip off the lights and blog by candlelight. Which is like colonial style meets digital world, but hey….it works.

From Winter Candy Apple to Gingerbread, Everdeen and Cinnamon & Clove Buds, Slatkin & Co. is giving us so many ways to scent in our homes this holiday season.

You can snag this 14.5 oz candle at Bath & Body Works and for $19.50. Or even better…2 for $20. Considering this baby will burn for a good 40-65 hours, I know I’ll be getting a lot of use of it even after the holidays.

But my nose ain’t complaining.

TMI Tuesday: Have you ever been sad? Like…REALLY sad?

Mental health is a topic that many of us don’t discuss. Which is so sad because a lot of us suffer in silence. Like taking care of our skin, our reproductive health and staying up on good eats and exercise, I am a huge believer in taking care our mental health. Because what good is a new mascara if you feel…off?

I’ll start this post off by saying I have never been diagnosed with clinical depression. I respect the seriousness of it. So much so that I don’t even like to joke around and say things like,

“I’m so depressed that Sephora sold out of that palette that I wanted.”

I know people who suffer with clinical depression and don’t like using the word so loosely.

Even though I haven’t been diagnosed, I think I can safely say that I’ve had some pretty down moments in my life.

Moments where I felt….numb. Moments where I wanted to be happy and I wanted to be positive but I just…couldn’t be. Some people think that depression is an attitude. That you can just shake it. Or pray it out. Or just…get over it.

Lies. All lies.

Depression is not an attitude. I don’t think it’s an emotion. It’s a feeling that suffocates you. It envelopes you. It’s overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time. I believe I’ve had several bouts of depression. And most people didn’t know about them. I’d move go along throughout my day and keep it to myself. Someone would ask how I’m doing and I’d say, “Fine.” Even though inside I felt like I was dying. And the saddest part is – I could not even begin to tell you why. Because life isn’t THAT bad. I have a roof over my head, a job to go to, money to pay my bills and friends and family members who love me. In theory, I have no reason to be depressed.

Depression doesn’t care.

I say all of this to say, if you are struggling with what you think may be depression, seek help. Churches, universities, community centers and clinics often offer free counseling and therapy sessions. If it’s depression, anxiety, stress, anger issues, substance abuse or addictions, know that you DON’T have to suffer alone.

I know. This is such a heavy post, uh? I wanted to shed some light on a topic that often gets ignored. And maybe some of you can share your experiences with mental health concerns and awareness.

Have you ever dealt with depression or any kind of mental illness? Do you know anyone that has?

Look! Q-tips inspired me to do a video!

Sooooo, guess who did a video for the first time in a looooong time? Me! My YouTube subscribers have been e-beating me up for months to start actively posting videos and what can I say? I’m just lazy. I’d rather write 3 blog posts than do a video. Terrible, I know. But the holiday season and the very exciting Q-Tips giveaway had me inspired.

Speaking of the Q-Tips, that giveaway is on fiyah! If you haven’t entered already, hop to it. This is just one of three giveaways that I’ll be doing thanks to my Q-Tips ambassadorship so you definitely want to enter each and every one of them. Oh! And you all are giving me so many new and different ways to use Q-Tips. Keep ’em coming!

Ciao for now, lovelies.

Fall shades from NYX Cosmetics’ Salon Formula nail polishes

Oh snaps! NYX Cosmetics has always been mediocre when it comes to nail polish but they have just stepped their game up with their new nail polishes. 144 of ’em to be exact. At $4.00 a bottle, I’m thinking that’s there’s got to be a polish with your name on it. While I’m not the traditional “stick to seasonal shades only” kind of gal, I am just lovin’ some of the fall shades that NYX has. Aaaaand, the formula of the polishes are pretty awesome too.

Gold is well…gold. It leans a bit on the orange-y side and has a nice foil-y finish. It almost looks like a lighter caramel with gold dust thrown in it.

Maroon should really have more of a descriptive name because it’s more than just…maroon. Okay, so yeah it is maroon but it has gorgeous bits of peach and neon purple shimmer. The shimmer doesn’t dominate the maroon shade much but its presence is quite complimentary and gorgeous.

Red Wine is a dark red creme that isn’t terribly unique. But never knock a good dark red. They are fantastic shades for nail designs and konading.

Power Red is just that. It is one powerful red! Despite what people say is professional or not, I’d probably rock a red like this to a job interview. This is the kind of red my Mom wouldn’t let me wear until I was in high school. Power Red has a ton of blue in it and if you aren’t the type to wear something as loud as a fire engine red, this one may suit you better.

I used 2 coats for each polish and even without a topcoat, they all had a nice and brilliant shine. The formula of these are nice but can be a tad bit on the watery side. Thin coats is the best route to take. If you’re in the market for new polishes, these aren’t bad. I think the price point at $4.00 is reasonable too. I can’t wait to try these out some of their glitter polishes. I’m impressed, NYX. You do polishes quite well. Get your shop on at

Dear Hello Kitty, Mirror Mirror, on the Wall…

It this doesn’t scream “Beauty girl who loves Hello Kitty”, I don’t know what does. This hand-held mirror comes from the Hello Kitty collection by Sephora. It’s more of collector’s item than a functional everyday use mirror.

In fact, I don’t even use it often. I’m too afraid of of breaking it. Which, of course is likely to happen. With me being clumsy and all. The price is a little steep for $35. Good thing I received it as a gift. The silver chrome is plastic but I would have LOVED if it was glass or metal. It would have given it a luxe and “expensive” feel. It being plastic means it’s prone to nicks and scratches. But who cares. It’s Hello Kitty and therefore it’s cute.

Have you grabbed this from Sephora yet? Oh…and don’t even get me started on the new Hello Kitty Grafitti collection.

Be still my Hello Kitty lovin’ heart….
