Top Beauty Finds of 2012

You knew it was comin’. I’ll save my whole spiel about “OMG, I can’t believe it’s already almost 2013″ and whatnot and just get right down to the nitty gritty.

Okay, wait. I lied. Seriously though – can y’all believe how quickly 2012 flew by? I mean, dang! Okay okay…here are some of my top  beauty finds of 2012. Keep in mind that these aren’t ALL of them. I’m far too lazy to list them all. Hey! I’m bein’ honest. Something you can continue to expect in 2013. Hollerrrrrrr.

Hereeeee we goooo….

Top Mascaras

So in this post I listed 6 of my favorite mascaras. Not included in that list are the following…

  • CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher mascara – Because how many mascaras don’t kill your lashes after you’ve applied a good 3 coats to them? Not many. We’ve seen a lot of Lash Blast mascaras but I’m happy to say that this one really doesn’t clump.

Top Nail Polish Brands/Collections

Piccies

  • butter LONDON – I was head over heels in love with this nail polish brand this year. Why? They were always releasing beautiful nail polishes that didn’t look like other polishes that I owned. At $14 a bottle, they are a bit on the higher-end side of nail polishes but who cares. We all need a hobby and one of mine is collection bL polishes until I die. Yep.
  • Cult Nails Coco’s Untamed collection – Oooh boy, I couldn’t get enough of this collection either. Even more impressive is that a 13-year old came up with all of these gorgeous shades. Yuuuup.

Top Lippies

  • I listed 4 of my favorite lippies here. Included in that list is the ever so awesome Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter.

 Top Skincare Products

  • Check out this list of 7 skincare products that rocked my world.
  • Eucerin Skin Calming Dry Skin Body Wash – It’s far from paraben-free and contains more ingredients than I like my skincare products to have but this has been the only body wash that not only soothes but keeps my eczema at bay.
  • Josie Maran skincare products – Okay, I’m cheating here because I haven’t really done a post for her products yet but I’ve been using them for weeks now and I am obsessed. Ob.sessed. Josie Maran drops argan oil in all of her products and I’ve been slathering everything from her hair oil, sunscreen and whipped argan butter allllll over.
  • Clarisonic Aria – This is another product that I haven’t reviewed (or tried) but I plan on getting my hands on it in 2013. I’m just so in love with this version of the awesome Clarisonic face brush that I just HAVE to have it.

Best in Foundations

  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Foundation – Oh geez, I love this stuff. I am actually at the bottom of my first bottle and I am thisclose to buying another. This foundation actually turned me into liking foundation. Which says a lot.

I totally didn’t even try to do a “Best in Eyes”. There were just too many products to choose from. Yeah, I know. I suck.

What were some of your favorite products in 2012?

Welcome to the Lipstick League Best of Fall edition! We’ve asked our members to share a link to their favorite product they’ve reviewed so far this season. And without further ado, here they are…

Gouldylox Reviews – My favorite product so far this season is my current mascara. Would it work for you?

Nouveau Cheap – My favorite product this season, and the one I’ve been reaching for the most, is this little $2 lip balm. Sometimes the best things are just so simple, aren’t they?

Pink Sith – My favorite product this season is an all in one Armani Palette (OK, maybe not ALL) but the blush and eyeshadow are so awesome for fall and easily transition into the holiday season!

Prime Beauty – My favorite products of the Fall season can be seen in this look from Makeup Wars -Battle of the Fall Face. I especially love the LORAC Pro Palette!

Phyrra – I have been in love with my Makeup Show Orlando Manicure with Cult Nails Nevermore and butter LONDON Fairy Cake. I keep wanting to wear this combination over and over again.

we heart this – This is not only Stef’s favorite red lipstick of fall, but her favorite red of ALL TIME. It’s Stila’s liquid lipstick in Beso, and if you’re a red lip junkie, you pretty much need this.

Beauty Junkies Unite – I fell in love with the nail colors in OPI’s Germany Collection in the fall of 2012, and over 10,000 Pinterest users did too!

Clumps of Mascara – I have been in love with so many nail polishes all season but Zoya’s Ornate nail polish collection absolutely rocked my world. These polishes are so gorgeous that sometimes I just sit and stare at the bottles.

EauMG I have had a very busy fall and haven’t reviewed half of the perfumes that I have fallen in love with, but I did review one – Von Eusersdorff New York Classic Patchouli. It’s a warm, cuddly comfort scent for me that is perfect for fall.

See you next week!

Amor de Lacquer: Essence’s pretty new bottles!

I freaking love Essence nail polish. Always have. Even though their bottle sizes freaked me out a bit (come on, Essence…you know they were too small) I was always in awe of the beautiful colors that they released. Very rarely do the affordable brands of nail polish come out with groundbreaking nail polish colors. I mean, it happens, but not every often. I can count on TWO sets of hands the gorgeous shades that Essence has. And now they’ve got larger and chic’er new bottles.

Looky!

Cute, right? I’ve got 3 shades here but I’m pretty sure I’ll be hoarding more. I am so in love with the bottle design, redesigned brush and beautiful shades.

L.O.L. is one of those Shrek greens that have been pretty popular. I’ve seen similar shades like this and if you’ve always wanted to snag one but didn’t want to spend a mess load of money on them, get L.O.L. It’s pretty, creamy and such an “interesting” shade that all nail polish lovers need to have in their stash.

Ultimate Pink is a hot pink and it’s a pretty awesome pedicure color.

Let’s Get Lost is more of a aqua blue but of course my camera is being nutty. As much as I love blues like this, I very rarely wear them because they always end up staining my nails no matter what I do. Grr.

Comparing the old Essence bottle to the new Essence bottle…

The newer bottle is just a bit taller but is obviously wider than the old bottle. Do you get as much product as say a bottle of Zoya?

Not really. But then again, this Essence nail polish is only $1.99. Oh! And then there’s the new wide brush.

…you’ll either love it or hate it. I actually really like brushes like these because I’ve got long and wide nail beds so I find them to be perfect in helping me achieve a smooth and even coat with just one stroke. I know I’m in the minority with the freakishly long nail beds so I’m pretty sure many nail polish lovers are not happy with the change.

But overall, I’m loving the updated look of these Essence nail polish bottles. They look classy, quirky and fun. I’m not sure if the update means they’ll be getting rid of the shades of the old bottles. I hope not because I’ve got some beautiful polishes in the old packaging that I don’t want them getting rid of. Time will tell… These babies are currently in Ulta stores and online too!

Any Essence nail polish lovers in the house? Whatcha think about the new bottle design?

What’s your most prized beauty possession?

B says, “My Maybelline Hello Kitty mascara. I’ve only used it a few times and likely won’t use it again (it’s waaaaay older than 3 months) but I so love that tube of mascara.”

What about you? I’m probably the only crazy one holding on to old mascara, uh? Ha!

Amor de Lacquer: Nicole by O.P.I. Kardashian Kolors Spring collection

Ooooh la laaaa, pretty new polishes from the Kardashian Kolors line. There are 7 of these and they look to be perfect for Spring and Summer. I spy a vampy and while vampy shades are typically worn around the Fall and Winter seasons, why says you can’t rock ‘em in April? Woot! Oh, and I know nothing about the Kardashian clan, y’all. I’m not a fan of much reality TV. I like before’s and after’s but following peoples’ lives is quite the snooze fest to me. But anywhoovers, let’s get on with the polishes.

Paparazzi Don’t Preach is a pinky peach that has more rose to it than my camera is showing you. I actually really like it. I don’t have anything like this in my collection so this color was quite the treat. It pops nicely against my skin, uh? It took a good 3 coats for this polish to apply with an opaque finish.

Ladies In The Limelight is a yellow-lime that is quite reminiscent of others shades. It’s not as green as OPI’s Who The Shrek Are You and since OPI’s Did It On ‘Em is a dead ringer for Who The Shrek Are You, it isn’t quite a dupe for Ladies In The Limelight either. I like this one better. It’s brighter and better and doesn’t look like barf. Which is always a good thing. Woot!

One Big Happy Fame-ily is a lavender shimmer and it’s all dainty and girly. I wasn’t head over heels in love with this shade but it’s pretty enough.

Back To Reality T.V. is a periwinkle with hot pink shimmer. It is awesooooome. I can’t put my finger on the Zoya polish it reminds me of, but man, this baby is pretty. If I wasn’t obsessed with polishing my nails daily, I could see myself rolling with this one for a while.

Strike A Pose is one bright orange-y coral. It’s gorgeous! It’s soooooo bright. Which is good thing considering I just adore bright colors on my toes. This is definitely my favorite of the bunch.

Our Fuchsia’s Lookin’ Bright has the cutest name ever. It’s a pretty pink. Nothing you probably haven’t seen before but it’s the norm to have a pink in Spring collections. I’m just glad this one is brighter than most.

Smile for the Glam-era is a deep and rich plum with subtle shimmer. I actually wore this one TWICE this week just because I didn’t want to take it off. I love the idea of wearing vampy polishes in “not vampy polish” season. And while I applied 3 coats, this baby was ready for a top coat after the 2nd coat. I love how opaque it is.

Must Have’s:
-Paparazzi Don’t Preach: Don’t knock this shade yo. It is amaziiiiiing. Especially for days when you want a lil’ something without overdoing it.
-Back To Reality T.V. Just because it’s sooooo unique.
-Strike A Pose. This shade is popppppiiiiin’!

I applied 3 coats for each of these polishes and didn’t use a top coat. I’m impressed. While some of the shades are repeats (i.e. Ladies In The Limelight and Our Fuchsia’s Lookin’ Bright), the others are nice and not so predictable for Spring. These go for $7.99 and they are exclusive to CVS locations nationwide.

See any you like?
