4 Skincare Brands That Are Doing It Right

I’ve been switching up the skincare game these days. I’m tossing out the same boring products that I’ve been using and trying some new stuff. Plus, I don’t know…there’s something about the change in seasons that makes you want to get a whole bunch of new skincare products and makeup goodies. I’ve been testing these goodies for months now and I finally feel ready to drop the skinny on them.

Tu'eL skincare products

Or is that just me? *shrugs* First things, first…have you heard of the brand Tu’eL? Girl. Ohmigoodness…I first purchased their products from my waxer lady and since then, their fabulous PR team has given me the opportunity to try other thangs.

Tu'eL products

While not widely popular, the brand Tu’eL and their products have changed my skin. And that’s not just dramatic blogger talk. Their Green Clean Invigorating Body Wash has worked wonders on my skin. I originally purchased the Body Polish Set (which contains pumice gloves) because my waxer promised that if I used that daily, I wouldn’t have any issues with itching or ingrown hairs. I was a skeptic, but she was absolutely right.

Tu'eL skincare

Tu’eL’s Green Clean Body Wash has a mineral oil-free formula with ingredients like pine and bladderwrack. The glycolic helps prevent bumps by really exfoilating the skin. It’s an experience, really and without the use of synthetic dyes and fragrances. I don’t think I’ll ever stop buying this product. The kit retails for $36 which is probably on the steeper end of post-wax and shave care, but whatever. It’s an investment that I will make time and time again to continue to not have to deal with ingrown hairs, dark underarms and the itchiness every time I shave.

Tu’eL also carries a Triple Splash 3-in-1 that is by far one of the coolest skincare products that I’ve come across in awhile.

Targeted to help hydrate the skin, Triple Splash is intended to be splashed on wet skin immediately after a bath or shower. Using Sodium Hyaluronate and a bit of Eucalyptus, this stuff promises to not only provide added hydration to the skin but it also firms and tones. It feels absolutely fantastic! Even in the summer, my skin is notoriously dry and even more so after I’ve been swimming.

Splash in hand

Triple Splash not only feels good after application but it’s a nice base before slathering on my moisturizer. I don’t know how I’ve managed to live without this stuff. Also pricey at $32, this hydrating body tonic is truly one of the best skincare products I’ve tried all year.

Ahava Active Moisture Gel Cream

Have you heard of the brand Ahava? I’ve tangoed with them before but it has been such a long time and I was very grateful to get a press sample of their Active Moisture Gel Cream. The whole concept of a moisturizer having a gel consistency is tough to deal with when you first plop a dollop in your hand.

Ahava Active Moisture Gel Cream in hand

But after it sinks into your skin, you realize that it doesn’t leave behind a sticky feeling but instead sinks into your skin. It feels especially cooling after a shower. The warmth of the skin combined with the coolness from the gel is quite the treat. Ahava says that this Gel Cream not only locks in moisture but with continued use it also brings about softer and more invigorated skin. I’m not sure if my skin feels 100% renewed after using this but I will certainly keep using it after workouts because I do feel it glides effortlessly on my inflamed and hot from the sun skin. Really all of us girls should keep a tub of this $40 slice of heaven in our gym bags.

SebaMed

And then there’s the brand Sebamed. Sebamed Liquid Face & Body Wash is geared towards those of who are serious about maintaing our skin’s pH balance. It is formulated to a pH balance of exactly 5.5 which is a big deal because it helps maintain skin’s moisture.

This mild soap deeply cleanses but doesn’t give your skin that streaky clean feeling. I love how my skin feels after using it but the fragrance is far too strong for my liking. Still, if your skin is pretty picky and you find that you have to use products that aren’t too acidic or too alkaline, Sebamed is very cool.

And we all know about St. Ives, right? Did you know not too long ago they gave us some new formulas? Pink Lemon & Mandarin Orange Scrub and Oatmeal Scrub + Mask are new on the scene.

St. Ives scrubs

I love how St. Ives is really specifying what each of their scrubs will do. Whether you need something to soften the skin, brighten or polish away imperfections, they’ve got it.

Recommended use is 3-4 times a week and that may be a bit much for some. However, I can certainly appreciate the less abrasive and almost cream-like feel to these. They feel so much nicer on the skin than the Apricot scrub. Which, by the way, is on sale at Drugstore.com.

St. Ives

Scent-wise, you’ll find the Pink Lemon to smell, well..citrusy and the Oatmeal scrub has a sweet and faint vanilla scent to it. Fans of St. Ives will love both and of course you grab them at drugstores and Target stores nationwide.

Have you been trying any fun new skincare products?

OPI Full-Size Neon Nail Polishes

Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. OPI has already given us neon polishes before. But these, darlings…these are FULL-SIZE neon shades that will live in their permanent line. So while I think you should rush off and get these, you don’t have to.

OPI OPI Full-Size Neon Nail Polishes

I got these samples on my hands (haha, literally) just last week and couldn’t wait to share them with you.

OPI You are So Outta Lime! polish
You Are So Outta Lime is a gorgeous bright green that I find isn’t insanely neon. Is it bright? Yes? But neon? Yeee..wellll….not so much. The formula is fantastic and it has such a creamy lime feel to it. I hope that made some kind of sense. Probably didn’t though, huh?

OPI Juice Bar Hopping polish

Juice Bar Hopping is a tangerine orange that is definitely BRIGHT. I adore this. I love orange polishes anyway but this orange, I think, will be an ideal pedicure color this summer. It isn’t traffic cone orange but it is certainly just a small notch down.

OPI Hotter than You Pink
Hotter Than You Pink is the only kind of pink that I like. This pink is so pink that I’m callin’ it pank. She is hot pink and obnoxious and I am so here for it!

OPI Push & Pur-Pull
Push & Pur-Pull is one of those deep purples that have a bit of magenta in them but are still a true purple. Does that sound crazy? Okay, maybe but there really is no way to describe how stunning this purple is. It isn’t unique. In fact, I have another one just like it. The formula is a bit wonky and it was hard to get it to apply evenly but whatever. It is still so stunning.

OPI Down to the Core-al
Down to the Core-al is a very bright and loud coral. It’s so so pretty and unique in that you never really see neon corals.

OPI Life Gave Me Lemons
Life Gave Me Lemons is a very neon-y yellow/green that was tough to photograph but is definitely a true neon. I think it applied better than all of the other shades. After putting down the white base coat, I found it to be smooth and opaque after only 1 coat. Niiiice!

Aside from Down to the Core-al, Life Gave Me Lemons, Hotter Than You Pink and Juice Bar Hopping, the rest of these aren’t true neons. They are definitely bright and stunning shades but true neons? Nope. Lovely nonetheless and I’ll be wearing them nonstop this summer. You can also get Put a Coat On!, OPI’s white color-boosting base alongside this collection. I used Put a Coat On! underneath each of these polishes but I also swatched them on a nail wheel and you’ll be happen to know that they apply just as nice without the white base coat.

You can get these babies anymore OPI polishes are sold. Aren’t they lovely?

Look! I’m on YouTube…Again!

Once upon a time, long before Twitter twitted and before people posted their entire lives on Instagram, there was YouTube. Back then I used it. And pretty regularly, too. You see, I was young and free. I was 22 and 23. I lived in apartments with friends, dated losers, traveled, started a beauty blog and just…lived. YouTube was where I went to vent, talk about natural hair and showcase new beauty products that I was obsessed with.

Clumps of Mascara YouTube

And then life changed and I stopped making videos. I’d like to blame getting married and having a baby as the reason why I stopped but nope, that’s not it. I lost my confidence because I had gained some weight and it was so noticeable on video. But thanks to Esposo’s encouragement and my desire to return to something that I once loved, I started doing videos again. And dare I say it but…it’s fun!

I’ve gotten over the nerves, found some confidence and I just roll with it. Yeah, I don’t have the best camera or lighting and I’m not desirous of doing a ton of editing but I do offer something that other YouTube’rs don’t. Me. I can be me. That part is easy. That said, check me out over there. I’ll be trying to do at least 1 video a week. The topics will always be random but if you can think of anything I should cover via video, let me know!

Last week I did a video talking about some of my favorite skincare products…

XOXO – B

Dental Beauty…For Toddlers!

Beauty starts when you’re young, gals. It’s true. I am a stickler about healthy teeth and dental care and will raise my wee babelets to be the same way. Through PopSugar and Aquafresh, Elle and I got the opportunity to play with their Training Toothpaste and toothbrush.

Aquafresh Training Toothpaste

And I say “playing” because have you ever tried to stick a toothbrush in a toddler’s mouth? It’s hard stuff, y’all. Especially when you’re dealing with Little Miss Independent. Elle is a lot like me in that she always wants to take control. Even if she doesn’t know what she’s doing. Haaaa!!!

Baby brushing teeth

Hey parental figures, did you know that compared to your tooth enamel, your baby’s enamel is 50% thinner? Craziness, right? Since these tiny humans aren’t aware of this fact, it is our job to ensure that they not only take it easy on the sweets but that they keep those budding teeth healthy, strong and white. Brushing baby and toddler teeth should happen as soon as their teeth come in. Not only does it get them used to creating healthy habits but it helps their teeth get the best first start. Or so says The little mouth experts ™.

Aquafresh toothbrush

Elle is a big fan of her toothbrush. While she loves nomm’ing on the handle more than anything, I dig how soft the bristles are. The handle is eye-catching enough for even the most distracted toddler and it fits comfortably in her little hands. And she can’t get enough of that toothpaste. I also love how the paste is clear and free from random color dyes. Consistency wise, the paste seemed to be perfect for little mouths. A little went a long way and I appreciate that the paste is formula-free. If she could put together a complete sentence, I’m pretty sure Elle would agree that Aquafresh’s  Training Toothpaste is pretty stellar for a Kid’s 1st Toothpaste.

Aquafresh Training Toothpaste tube

And you know what? I’m a mint girl, myself but I’ve got to admit, the Apple-Banana flavor isn’t half bad. Mamas, papas, Aunts, Uncles, Grams and friends with babes, I’m thinking this toothpaste will be a major hit for the little one in your life. As always, please use product as directed on label.

The Best Cream Eyeshadow of 2014

Let’s switch it up a bit. How about a post of mostly pictures and very few words?

Eyeliner on waterline

And all about an eyeliner…

Urban Decay Waterproof Cream Eyeliner

I mean, what more is there to say about such an incredible eyeliner?

Top of Urban Decay Perversion

I scooped up Urban Decay’s Super-Saturated Ultra Intense Waterproof Cream Eyeliner (whoaaaa, what a mouthful!) a few weeks ago. I’ve been using MAC’s Fluidline in Blacktrak for years. Years. It got all dried up and so I decided to try something new. Something relatively waterproof.

Urban Decay Perversion

Super creamy and doesn’t budge. UD nailed it with this one.

Urban Decay Perversion bottle

It doesn’t flake. And smudges nicely on the lid should you decide to use it as a base. It is such a luscious and creamy dark black.

Urban Decay Perversion cream eyeliner

Almost like a bright black. Does that make sense? Kinda? No. Okay. But you know what I mean, right?

Perversion on finger

Yes, girl. Yas!

Eyeliner

Closed eye - eyeliner

Sweet, right? Get Perversion here for $22. And then thank me later.

Ta ta, darlings.

Zoya Naturel collection

My girl Leandra from Nail Polish Therapy is still helping me in the swatching department of the press samples of polishes that I received many moons ago. Today we’re showcasing the ever so simple yet stunning Naturel collection from Zoya.

Zoya Naturel collection

This collection hit the scenes in December of 2013  and uh…let’s not talk about how late I am in getting this review up, okay? Naturel is still making waves in the nail polish community. Because hello…creams never get old. Never.

Zoya Chantal
Described as a French vanilla cream, Chantal’s creaminess makes me lust after ice cream in the worst way. She applies with ease and really that shade is perfect for nail polish lovers of all complexions.

Zoya Normani

Normani is a sable mauve cream that I found to almost look like OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques. While not as dirty mop water’ish, Normani is the kind of shade that you would maaaaaybe try. Or  you’d run away from it. That’s it.

Zoya Taylor
Taylor could definitely be the younger sister of Chantal. This light toffee cream has a bit more warmth and brown in it but it is just as striking as her older sister.

Zoya Odette
Odette is one notch away from being considered a Grandma shade in my book but this sultry orchid maroon makes the cut. Really, she’s actually very classy and flattering on just about anyone.

Zoya Rue
Oh Rue. Could you have been named after one of my favorite characters in The Hunger Games? Perhaps? This boudoir blush cream isn’t as exciting or groundbreaking as the other colors but her one perk is that she applies with such ease and coverage.

Zoya Brigitte
Okay, if Odette was a notch away from being the Grandma shade, Brigitte is all the way there, honey. And not in a bad way. I find this bombshell mauve cream to be very retro and dare I say it…funky? It works.

You won’t find me saying anything bad about a collection full of creams. I think Zoya did an amazing job in terms of uniqueness and stellar formula. Chantal and Normani may very well be the must haves of this collection. You can snag each bottle for $8/bottle or the entire collection for $54 at Zoya.com.

Makeup Wars: 5 Wearable Nude Lipsticks for Brown Girls

The slacker in me almost missed out on joining in on this Makeup Wars post. But dude…nude? I HAD to jump in and represent for the dark brown girls that feel as if they can’t wear nudes comfortably.

Nude Lipstick.jpg

Truthfully, though? Nudes aren’t favorite. I hardly tango with any of mine. Why wear nude when you can wear red, hot pink or…orange? But lemme tell you, a good nude paired with a gorgeous and vibrant eye is stunning. Nudes have their place in the makeup world and I’m glad to see that I’ve got a nice little selection of ‘em.

Nude Lipstick on Black Woman

Even if I don’t show them much love. Who knows…maybe after seeing all of these nudes, I’ll be inspired to wear them more often. Maybe. But first, check out 5 of my favorite nude lipsticks…

DSC_4667

Clinique’s Curviest Caramel is the way I like my nudes. It leans a bit more on the pink side but is still described as a nude. It doesn’t have too much white in it to where I feel like a corpse. And it’s definitely one of those interview friendly shades.

Hey there, Tarte Inspired. Don’t hate me for not having a single picture of that lippy but dang…I love it. Inspired comes from Tarte’s Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipsticks and while the formula on these are a bit thick and strange, Inspired is truly one nude that I can stand by.

DSC_1782

Too Faced’s Spice Spice Baby is one of those nudes that at first glance looks “Blech!” but then when applied you’re all like “Dayuuuuuum!” It is one nude that I don’t have to do any doctoring to. It is perfect without any liner or glosses. It is truly the ideal nude lipstick for my dark brown sisters.

Too Faced Taffy

Also from Too Faced is Taffy, a pink marshmallow nude. This is the most recent nude featured on Clumps and it is by far one of my favorites.

MAC Lollipop Loving

MAC’s Lollipop Loving (from the Heatherette collection, who remembers that?) is like a blast from the past. I can’t believe I still have this lipstick. I’m questioning if it is even safe to use considering I’ve had it for so many years. Welp, whatever. I have rediscovered this lipstick and I am in loooove with its frosty pink-y nude finish with  just a touch of chartreuse shimmer. Some frosts are so totally 90’s but when lined with MAC’s Chestnut, this lippy is some kind of wonderful.

Do you have a favorite nude? Tell me! I really should add more to my collection. In the meantime, check out the nude lippies that my Makeup Wars sisters loved…
