Oh darlings, how about a little something special this Valentine’s Day? I try very hard not to get all caught up with the commercialism of this holiday, but um, I love candy. And shoot, I don’t really need a holiday to buy myself a box of candy. Just sayin’.

Let’s Talk About Everyone’s Favorite Subject…Birth Control!

This post is sponsored by Bedsider.Org  but all the opinions are all my own.

As I started to write this post, I was somewhat perplexed on how I wanted to approach the topic of birth control. I mean talking about birth control can be extremely awkward and uncomfortable. But it is something that needs to be discussed. As I reached the point of frustration, Beyoncé’s Grown Woman played on my iPhone and then I got all the inspiration I needed. Sex is a part of everyday life and sex is how you create life. If you are grown enough to be having sex, you should be grown enough to protect yourself.  The stats for unplanned pregnancies are way too high and if you aren’t ready for  littles ones, take the steps you need to in order to protect yourself. I can barely afford gas in my car so there is NOOOOO way I can afford kids right now.

What people do not know is there are so many methods of birth control and the information is literally at your fingertips. Bedsider.Org is your online headquarters for learning about birth control. Bedsider realizes that talking about birth control is a serious topic, but they make it lighthearted and informative.

The most information I got on birth control came from the movie Mean Girls.

mean-girls-movie-quotes-39

Of course I knew about the pill and condoms, but I had no idea what fertility awareness was or what and how a sponge worked. Bedsider.Org explains it all. Not only does the site go through each form of birth control, but they let you know how it works and the potential cost. You get to hear real testimonies from people who are using that particular method. I loved hearing the male point of view in the videos because sometimes we forget that birth control is something that both partners need to be aware of.  Another one of my favorite things about Bedsider.Org is that you can sign up for birth control reminders. If you are on the pill, shot, patch, or the ring, you can sign up to have daily, weekly, or monthly reminders to take your birth control. How awesome and convenient is that?

With Valentine’s Day in a few days, you may be planning to get hot and heavy with your loved one, boo, or the hot guy who bought you a drink at the bar, but before you do, make sure you take some time to go through Bedsider.Org  to find out which birth control method is right for YOU and YOUR body.

Make sure to you stop by the website and follow them on Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube.

Reason #285 Why You Should Be Using Vaseline

Vaseline

Yep, it’s me again. Telling the world about the awesomeness that is Vaseline. Y’all know I’ve done this before. It’s what I do. Vaseline really could hire me because I go around bragging about them more times than I can count.

Through Popsugar, I was granted to the opportunity to not only be gifted with a nice box of goodies to use with my huge tub of Vaseline, but I was also inspired to do a video. Something I haven’t done since, well…uh, it’s just been awhile. Yeah. Obviously, it had to be one amazing product to get me to come out from under the “Ain’t Done A Video In Awhile” rock.

Did you know that Vaseline is fantastic at healing dry skin? So yes, it’s 75 degrees here in Florida, but when the temperature drops at night, my skin gets ridiculously flaky and dry. Vaseline is amaziiiiiiing at deeply moisturizing to heal dry skin. I reckon you guys and girls in snowy temps would so so benefit from the healing proprieties that Vaseline has.

Vaseline Jelly

And unlike other products, who shall remain nameless, Vaseline doesn’t sit topically on skin nor does it pass in and out of the top layer of skin too quickly. So yay for products that actually WORK when you apply them. Move out of the way, lotion water! I needs some Vaseline.

Check out my video to see how I used Vaseline. This has now become one of my favorite uses for the big V. And please be gentle, y’all. I’ll get my vlogging swag back. Oh, and please forgive me for using the word swag.

Pretty, cool, uh?

Other ways ways you can use Vaseline…

  • As a shaving treatment.
  • As a foot treatment.
  • As a makeup remover.
  • As a face treatment.

Shark Week Can Be Fun Again…Kinda. Thanks U By Kotex!

Because I’m all about keepin’ it real up in here, you should know that this is a sponsored post for U by Kotex, who provided me products to review. You can get a free sample from U by Kotex too here and Do the Demo.

Now. Who’s ready for some TMI? You know I am. I stay in the TMI Lane. As lady people, we shouldn’t be so secretive about the things that so many of us deal with. And let’s face it, we’ve all dealt with our cycle at some point in our lives. It’s been about 16 years since Aunt Flow has made herself a regular visitor. And I hate her. I really do. But she’s a necessary evil and so while I cringe at her every appearance, I have come across ways that make dealing her, well…easier.

U by Kotex box

Through Socialstars I had the opportunity to test some of these U By Kotex products and at first I was like “Oh snap…my menstrual cup lovin’ friends are so going to disown me.” Yes, I do proudly roll with the cup crew but honey, I’m a girl who likes options. And no one likes to be unprepared when their cycle decides to make their first appearance after 21 months of being ghost (thanks pregnancy and breastfeeding!). And said cycle comes when you are out of town. Oh yes, girl. This happened to me. And I wish I would have these U by Kotex CleanWear pads on hand.

U by Kotex

First of all, can we talk about the pretty packaging? “B, who cares if they’re pretty. They’re sanitary napkins!” Look. There ain’t anything pretty about Shark Week. But U By Kotex is trying to lighten the horror a bit with colorful wrapping and decorated pads.

Kotex packaging

And, I for one, can appreciate this. In fact, how I’ll go back to regular plain pads is beyond me. It was as if U By Kotex sat down and said “Hmm…how can we make this awful time of the month just a little better?” And while they aren’t able to make the cramps and bloat feeling disappear, they can at least bring a smile on my face when I open up these pretty pads.

Kotex napkin

Just, wow…

And they aren’t just pretty to look at. Without getting too graphic (calm down…I won’t put it ALL out there), I love how the U by Kotex Barely There Thin Liners don’t leak. They just don’t. Also, the adhesive has a nice and firm stick and you can ensure that it’ll last for as long as you need it to.

Kotex tampons

Colorful pads with pretty packing and housed in a slick and sexy black box? Well done. U By Kotex gave us something that we didn’t even know we needed. And I love it. Now if only they can think of a way to get rid of that “Give me all of the sweets and leave me alone for the next 3 days” feeling…

I wrote this review while participating in a content series through Crowdtap on behalf of U by Kotex, and received products to facilitate my post and compensation for my time to participate. But y’all know me. I don’t mind writing about this kind of stuff for free because, well, uh…I have before!

Question of the Week:

Is there a makeup application technique that
you’ve tried to master, but just can’t seem to conquer?

B says, “Ummmmm, stupid liquid eyeliner. I suck at it! And don’t even get me started on false lashes. Hmph. “

So which techniques do you suck at?

See you next week!

So About That 5K That I Ran…

…I ran it! And it was awesome. Seriously. I had such an incredible time running that race. And this is all kind of crazy, because, hello…I’m not the running  type.

Granted, runners don’t have a “type” but I don’t think I have the outwardly appearance of someone who could run. I’ve got awkward flat feet. My thighs rub together. I’ve got ginormous boobs that have to get tied down with TWO bras and I when I run, I breathe heavily; I don’t have a breathless stride with brief puffs of air. But you know what?

I don’t even care. Because at least I’m running. I wasn’t running last year so I try to provide myself with plenty of “You go girl”s.

Clumps of Mascara 5K

My first post-baby 5K was excellent – mainly because I didn’t have a goal. Well, I take that back. My goal was to complete. And I did. I ran with a girlfriend of mine and we decided to do 1-minute run/1-minute walk intervals the entire way. This was great for me as I was able  to control my breathing better and looked forward to the breaks. At the end of each break, I mustered up everything in me to run. My stride could use some work, but I think that’s because I need new shoes.

Run a 5K

But I won’t be getting new shoes until I run another race. That’s right, at the end of every race, I reward myself with something. At the end of this one, I got a heart rate monitor watch. And I’m loving it! I’m just getting back in town from NYC and haven’t run all week (except during work when I got caught in a rain storm and got SOAKED) but I am so looking forward to it this weekend.

I’ve got another 5K at the end of March and that will be another fun run except I think I’m going do run 2-minutes/walk -minute intervals. By Spring, I would love to be able to run an entire 5K without stopping. I’ve found fantastic support in my local Black Girls Run group and between them and the local running stores in Orlando, I’ve been feeling the love.

Nike + Running Stats

I’ll keep you guys updated! Oh, and I’ve lost a total of 6 lbs with Weight Watchers. Totally thought I would have lost more but I have lost 3 inches on my waistline so heyyyyy…progress is good, right?

GLOSSYBOX 2014 Is Shapin’ Up Nicely!

Well helllloooo GLOSSYBOX. I got this box in the mail a few weeks ago and I’ve gotten into a nice little habit of just letting those pretty little boxes sit nicely on the beauty shelf before I even dive into them. The boxes are just so pretty. And I was so excited to see what kind of cool things GLOSSYBOX had for us this year…

GLOSSYBOX Feb 2014

Like always, your box will contain a little leaflet giving you a rundown of each product and its specs. I love this. I tend to rummage through the box and then go back to read the leaflet to get more information about the products.

GLOSSYBOX February 2014

Like always, I judge beauty boxes by the quality and diversity of their products. And like always, GLOSSYBOX doesn’t let me down. This was a stellar box with awesome high-quality and luxe products.

GLOSSYBOX moisturizer

I haven’t heard of the brand Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich Cream but what a wonderfully decadent moisturizer this is. I’ll be tossing this in my travel bag for my trip to NYC. Good timing with this, GLOSSYBOX. The weather is cooler and a moisturizer like this will be well received by many.

GLOSSYBOX mineral blush

This Bellápierre Cosmetics Mineral Blush in Desert Rose is lovely. I’m not a mineral makeup user (lazy + clumsy = naw) but I think Desert Rose is a nice and wearable shade for women of all complexions. Plus, the sample size will certainly go a long way.

GLOSSYBOX Beauty Blender

The BEAUTYBLENDER Pure Beauty Blender is huuuuge in the makeup world and considering it’s almost $20, I would say that this product alone exceeds the value of this month’s GLOSSYBOX. I am so excited to use this. I haven’t yet owned one and I’m going to be putting this baby to good use.

GLOSSYBOX hair

GLOSSYBOX usually always gives us hair care products and while they have never been geared towards my hair type, I can still appreciate the inclusion of hair products. TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray looks like it’ll be nice for my girls trying to add some volume to their tresses.

GLOSSYBOX body wash

Balance Me Super Toning Body Wash is a wonderfully smelling body wash. I love that the brand uses essential oils over fragrances. Y’all know how I feel about fragrances.

Such a fantastic box! There’s a little something for everyone and the sample sizes are large enough for users to get a nice try out of each product. Way to go, GLOSSYBOX!

Purchase yours here for $21/month.

The Awesomeness That Is Katy Perry’s Killer Queen

Katy Perry Killer Queen fragrance

If  you know anything about me,  know that I love Katy Perry. In today’s music market you have so many people trying too hard. Katy Perry has raw natural talent and I appreciate that. I can put her music on when I am happy, sad and when I work out,  when I’m on a road trip and her music is. Katy Perry came out with her third perfume ,Killer Queen, in August and I am so excited that I received a sample to review.

Katy Perry Killer Queen perfume

So I know you’re reading this and saying “Of course YOU’LL love it, Courtney.” But really…it is actually a good perfume. I own Katy’s other perfumes, Meow and Purr, and Killer Queen is my favorite. It is a more adult perfume than the first two and has a nice floral scent. I love smelling good, but I have to be careful about what perfumes I use because I will get a migraine by the simplest smell. Killer Queen doesn’t give me a migraine at all. Aaaand, it lasts all day.

Katy Perry

Oh, and I have been getting compliments on how nice I smell which is always good. Of all the awesome things about the perfume, the bottle is my favorite. Katy Perry’s first two perfumes were in the shape of cats, but this bottle is fit for a queen. Classy, right?

A 3.4 oz bottle goes for $64 at Macy’s and most big department stores. Spring is coming up soon and it might be time to change your signature scent. Would you give Killer Queen a try?
