Welcome to another post from the Sista Show Off series! In this series I like to show some love to other companies, blogs, businesses, organizations or just regular ladies like myself who are paving the way for women everywhere! Let me feature you! Shoot me an email at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

This is Glam! Oh yeah…such hotness!

This is Glam, Q3030’s gift to the urban fashionista is set to not only to be the leader in defining urban trends, but to also elevate viewers understanding of what’s haute and what’s not! Each week, Ivirlei Brookes, host and head glam girl in charge will serve up fashion and styling tips, sure to make us all ready to be a part of her glam squad. This is Glam celebrates urban style and individuality like no other show has done before.

Ivirlei Brookes, the brainchild behind This is Glam, says the show will combine entertainment with practical instruction. According to Ivirlei style comes from within and is a form of self expression…”style is what you tell the world without saying a single word!” While her audience previews the latest in peep-toe booties and access celebrity interviews, they will also learn to how mix and match, rock a hat, and better flatter their body types. Fashion +Style =This is Glam.
If you’re ready for ICON status, Ivirlei and This is Glam will not only give you the “how-to,” she’s giving viewers their certified “GLAM” pass.

Wait….did you say “how-to”?

Click the photo below to get a snippet of one of their beauty how-to’s.

This Is Glam debuts on November 16th. Stay tuned!

50 million pound challenge: I’m no size 6. But I don’t care.

I have never been smaller than a size 12 in my adult years. And I’ve never really had a problem with this either. My thighs have always rubbed together and I still felt attractive. I could never be a runway model but that’s never bothered me. The photo you see is of a slightly larger B. I was loved by friends and family but most importantly—I loved myself.

It wasn’t until I visited the doctor my senior year of college and he told me he was concerned about my high blood pressure, that I began to worry. A few more visits confirmed that I indeed had dangerously high blood pressure for someone my age. My systolic reading (top number) wavered between 140 and 145. This was not a good look for a 22 year old…or anyone for that matter.

And so to the World of Weight Loss I went. I went from a size 16 to a size 12 solely on monitoring what I ate and became BFFs with the gym. My blood pressure has consistently stayed normal and physically, I feel great. I am far from skinny but I am in shape and healthy!

….even though I’m not a size 6. And even though I’ll probably never wear a bikini. But I’m okay with that. I don’t look at numbers. I don’t own a scale and don’t don’t cringe at clothes that have double digits. I never really feel fat (unless I’ve over-indulged) and I can honestly say that I love my body; flaws, flub and all. According to the Body Mass Index calculator (stoopid calculator doesn’t even consider muscle mass), I am obese. But when I look in the mirror, I don’t see that. And I certainly don’t feel that way when I’m running my miles in the morning. I’m not even desirous of being a size 10 or 8…and let’s be honest, a 6 for me is a joke.

As we continue to press forward for healthier bodies and lifestyles, know that your beauty outshines what size you are and how much you weigh. It is a work in progress to get to a healthy weight–but in the meantime, don’t let these numbers make you feel bad. You are beautiful no matter what.

Slightly larger (but STILL happy) me.

Do yourself a favor and toss your scale out of the window.

But be sure to open the window first. :)

I love, y’all! Hang in there! Feel free to drop me any suggestions you may have. See you at next week’s check-in!

Mascara Monday: Rimmel The Max Volume Flash mascara

Rimmel’s The Max Volume Flash is the winner of the “What mascara should I review next?” poll. A good 362 of y’all voted and 125 folx (about 34%) said they wanted to see what Rimmel’s newest had to offer in all of its hot pink goodness.

Your wish is my command!

Peep the review…

Rimmel “The Max” Volume Flash

Price: 5 out of 5 (around $5.00 at Walgreens )

Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims: ….from the packaging.

The truth:
The wand almost scared me but the truth is…it didn’t! It breezed right through my lashes.

What I loved about it: It gave me some good length AND volume.

What I didn’t like: Hmm…what’s not like to like?

Overall: I have reviewed and been impressed with other Rimmel mascaras. Rimmel ‘Glam Eyes Lash Flirt received a 5. Have you seen the wand on that thing? Amazing! Then there’s Sexy Curves and the regular ‘Glam Eyes. All of which have high ratings. So needless to say, I am a fan of Rimmel’s mascaras. Let’s talk about what I love most about them…

Their wands!

The Max Volume Flash has a pretty large wand that can be intimidating at first glance. See…

But it has characteristics that puts other large wands to shame. The bristles are stiff enough to glide through your lashes. And although the photos don’t show it, the bristles somewhat flatten out toward the end. Maybe this photo will give you a better idea of what I’m talking about.

See it now? I love this little detail! If you have smaller lashes/lids and have issues with larger wands, The Max Volume Flash allows for you to press up against your lashes comfortably. The only issue with that is you may end up with mascara on your lid. But the volume you get is worth it. In the video I talk about how to can make for easy clean up when that happens.

I did experience clumps with added coats but when I stuck with a good two coats….I was fine. The lengthening factor is pretty dope too which was a nice little surprise since this is supposed to be a volumizing mascara.

No smudging or flaking but then again that has never been an issue for Rimmel mascaras. What can I say? They are simply one of the best drugstore mascaras I have ever used.

Lashes without mascara
(did NOT curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: Oh yeah….cheap AND it works? Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

Have you tried Rimmel’s newest yet? What do you think?

A crazed mascara reviewer,

FOTD Friday: Iman Cosmetics, Take 1

As promised, my darlings, I am doing a face of the day from my run-in with some Iman Cosmetics goodies. I’ll incorporate them in more FOTDs and with complete reviews and all!

This time I played around with the eyeshadow Mahogany.

This is such a beautiful soft brown that blends like a dream. It’s a matte..and it may be one of my favorite mattes of all time. Just look at how the brush soaks it up.

Wow! I applied it on the outer-V and crease like so….

Okay, so I am REALLY in love with Mahogany, y’all. It gave me such depth with little effort. As with most mattes, a little goes a long way so if you use this, you better use a light hand or you may apply too much.

On to the cheeks….I used Iman Cosmetics’ Freesia blush.

Now, at first swatch…I really thought I would like this. It looked beautiful against my skin when I swatched it on the arm, see?

But it was a different story when I applied it on the cheeks. It looked like I got punched on both sides. I ain’t lyin’, yall.

It could very well be me. I’ll admit I’m not the best with darker blushes application. I’ll have to consult with a make-up artist on this one. Here’s the look all pulled together!

FACE:
MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW45
MAC Sweet As Cocoa blush
Iman Cosmetics Freesia blush
MAC MSF in Petticoat (I had to put this over Freesia)

EYES:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance

L’Oreal Shadow paint in Witty
Cargo bronzer in medium
Iman Cosmetics Mahogany e/s
NARS Edie e/s

NARS Albatross highlighter
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero
NYC Cosmetics eyeliner in Teal
Lancome Ink Artliner in Indigo Charm
LIPS:
Dolce & Gabanna’s lipstick in Dahlia
…I love this lipstick so much I even took a picture of it and put it on my laptop’s desktop. HA!

Oh….back to the topic at hand.

I be jammin’ on the way to work!

And I’m still leaving positive notes in random places for people to see.

Y’all should really get on the Operation Beautiful bandwagon. It’s quite addicting, I tell ya! And what better addiction to have than to make people feel good about themselves? I try to do it every day.

I’m such a cornball. HA!

Alright darlings….have a WONDERFUL weekend

Stay beautiful,

Beauty Beehaviors: Um, you are TOO old for that.

Welcome to another post from the Beauty Bee-haviors series. In this series we have open discussions about any and everything in the beauty world.

Okay, let’s keep it real. I would probably pass out if I saw either one of my Grandmommies rockin’ a tube top. I would probably give them a side eye if they were rocking green nail polish too. I guess I associate those things with younger folx.

Am I the only one?

Do certain beauty and fashion trends end at a certain age? Or should they?

Before getting heavily into nail polishes, I always thought I was too “old” to wear glittery polishes. I felt the same way about nail designs and funky colors like green and blue. I felt this way in my early 20’s! Craziness, I know. I have since changed my mind and will happily sport any color and finish of polish.

But will I be able to do this in my 40’s and 50’s? Or should I not care and rock whatever at any age?

So answer this….

When it comes to beauty and fashion, is there anything you should stop doing or wearing at a certain age?

Politically Pretty: The Obama Time Capsule

What if you could personally document history? I mean….how cool would that be?

I was heavily involved in the last Presidential election. I watched every debate, tuned in to the Democratic and Republican National conventions, I campaigned for President Obama and I even attended inauguration. I was completely immersed in all things politics at that point. Kia from Yummy 411 and I even did a Politically Pretty challenge. Who says you can’t combine beauty and politics?

While I am able to hold onto those memories, I’ve got something that is tangible and will last a lifetime!

The Obama Time Capsule

Wait….look again. See the last author on there?

Your eyes do not deceive you. That’s me! I am all up and through this book. I created my own personal edition. It talks about President Obama’s journey to the White House. It goes in depth about EVERYTHING. Even things that relate to the new generation–me!

Liike…

I think it’s SO cool to see the influences social networking had on the election. Especially since I am a social networking nut. And to be able to share this with the future grandkids is just….wow.

See the invitation I got?

….and of course all of his fabulous supporters!

….and Obama art!

This is the PERFECT holiday gift for any one who was involved in the election. I think I’ll get my sister Courtney one aaaand Beauty and the Male’s KP one as well.

Shoot—well, now they know their Christmas gifts. Oh well!

You can find out more about The Obama Time Capsule here. I’m closing the book!
