I’m back!

Did you miss me? I certainly missed y’all. I don’t think I’ve ever gone a week without blogging on Clumps since…EVER! I actually teared up a bit the evening my hiatus started. It just felt “strange” to not blog. I got over it a few days later. I found myself doing things I never get a chance to do.
Like…read!!!

I’ve had 3 issues of Black Enterprise that I hadn’t read yet. Read them all. And I finally finished Tony Dungy’s and started and finished Sophie Kinsella’s newest. She is one of my favorite authors ever!

And then I did something I’ve always wanted to do…

I bought a used bike! It’s sittin’ in my living room (classy, uh?) shivering. I’m afraid to ride it! I know, I know. I haven’t ridden a non-stationary bike in years and I’m a little nervous. Are y’all laughing at me?

I visited my babies! In Hollywood and Miami I have two almost two year old boys.

Aren’t they darling? My honorary godson and cousin are hilarious! I’m used to little girls so being around these little men is always fun. And then there’s my darling goddaughter Sophie who is 6 weeks old.

She’s amazing. Just amazing.

I fell in love with a new Vegan Restaurant in Orlando.

That’s vegan BBQ, curry rice and veggies. Loving Hut has a new and obsessed customer.

And I finally mastered some yoga poses. Including the crane…

As long as it is completely silent, I can hold this for at least a minute. And I haven’t broken my arm yet. Holla! This photo comes from one of my favorite yoga websites.

I feel refreshed and renewed. I caught got caught up on my editorial calendar and don’t feel as stressed as I was before. Thank you all for supporting the hiatus. I have so many things to share.

But tell me…what’s goin’ on in your world? Anything you want to see on Clumps? Did I miss anything?

Clumps’ Hiatus 2010

Well, my loves…the time as come for me to bid farewell. I’m taking a bit of a break from Clumps. No no no, it’s not anything you’ve done, but sometimes I can get a wee bit overwhelmed. But from editing videos, to drafting posts, writing freelance pieces, taking photos, responding to emails and staying connected on Facebook and Twitter, I can honestly say that I enjoy it all. If it weren’t for you all’s support, Clumps wouldn’t exist. Your love and encouragement has meant the world to me. Did I ever tell you that Clumps is my passion? Seriously. It combines ALL of my loves; beauty, writing, helping others, new media, photography, web design, video production, entrepreneurship and traveling. Funny how one minute I’m a 23-year old trying to find my way in life and the next thing I know, I’m starting a blog with a funny title that has turned into a business. Your passion may be right in front of you, fam. It was for me.

This hiatus won’t be easy. I’m a bit “obsessed” with Clumps. But I’m looking forward to doing things I never have the time to do. Like read, work on the scrapbook for my goddaughter, go bike riding,  master some yoga stances, make phone calls (instead of text, HA!) and think of ways to make Clumps better. I’m learning that the best way to keep your passion a “passion” is to prevent it from becoming like work. To keep it enjoyable, sometimes you have to take a break.

I’ll be checking my email thirty-two times once day. If you need me…I’m there!

Oh! And Ying is the winner from the Snubbr giveaway. Speaking of giveaways, I’ve got a TON coming up for when I return. Excited yet?

See ya when I see ya!

Amor de Lacquer: Nubar Sparkles collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

When it comes to glitter nail polishes, you either love ’em or hate ’em. Love them, I do. Removing them, I don’t. But some are so nice that they are worth the trouble of removing.

Take Nubar’s Sparkle collection for example.

This collection of glitters takes only requires 1-2 coats to achieve an opaque finish. Don’t believe me? Watch this!

Meadow Sparkle is pretty cool! A light green glitter is something I could have never imagined. This was the only one that needed 3 coats but no worries…once applied, it sparkles just as good as its classmates.

Star Sparkle is one of my favorites! It’s more than just a silver glitter. It has a holographic look to it that is just blinding. I love it!

It is a little thicker than most of the other polishes. But it’s not TOO much of a bad thing because that means it only needs one coat. Holler!

Petunia Sparkle is my favorite. What a gorgeous color! My camera is unable to to capture the essence of this magenta. It is so pigmented and I always get compliments when I wear this color. It’s the best!

But it does have its flaws….

Removing is a nightmare. But I just deal with it because it is just a fabulous glitter!

Night Sparkle is another must have. Wow! What a blue. It is so important to put down a base coat to prevent staining with this baby. But…wow-sers!

Fire Sparkle almost reminded me of China Glaze’s Ruby Pumps but Fire Sparkle has A LOT more glitter. It is insane. Which of course means I love it!

Violet Sparkle is indeed the best. I love love LOVE it! If I had a favorite color, this would be it. It is a rich royal blue with a good amount of hot pink glitter. It is magnificent. I can’t stop looking at my nails when I wear this color. My camera is having a tough time capturing a color this awesome so please don’t mind how OFF it looks in these photos.

Nubar’s Swatch:

Missing from the collection is Hyacinth Sparkles, a light purple and Sky Sparkles, a light blue. I can’t seem to find those boogers anywhere. I LOVED this collection. I didn’t love the removing process that comes with most glitters. It’s not something you can avoid…even if you use a base coat. I found that while these glitter polishes were easier to remove, they still let tiny micro glitters all under my cuticles and under my nails. I’m so meticulous that it took me FOREVER to thoroughly rid my nails of the glitter.

With all of these you will get an opaque finish in only one coat. Which is huge! Most glitters require 2-3 coats for complete coverage. I did, however, use 3 coats for each simply because I wanted to see the differences the number of coats would make. The must haves in this collection are Petunia Sparkle and Violet Sparkle. They are amazing!

You can get the entire collection here for $49.95 or buy them individually for $7.49/ea.

Other Nubar collections I’ve reviewed:
Going Green
Modern Mattes
Chocolate Truffles

Beauty Review: NYX Milk jumbo pencil

I have found such a staple product in NYX’s Milk jumbo pencil. I mean…it’s amazing, y’all! I used it in a FOTD Friday and since then I’ve been experimenting with it. It works beautifully under mattes and chromes. It’s just…what is that Anita Baker song? “The Best Thing Yet”? Oh yeah, girl…it really is all that and then some.

Hit the jump to see what I’m talkin’ about.

Now don’t laugh at the condition of my pencil. I can’t find the top to save my life. The good news is that it hasn’t dried out yet. That’s 12 out of 10 points for NYX! For $4.00, you get this creamy but not too creamy pencil that can be used as a base or eye shadow color all on its own.

My lids are insanely oily so I usually have to wear this on top of Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance eye shadow primer. When I first swatched it, I was shocked.

It is REALLY white. I would have never thought that shadows over this white WHITE could compliment me. Wrong! Watch this!

With gentle strokes, I drew all over my eye lid from the lower lash line to the brow.

Would y’all still love me if I walked out of the house like that? HA! I’m jivin’. What comes next is blending with my fingers. Remember to be careful on the eyelids. Too much tugging can lead to crows feet overnight. Seriously.

Not blending enough can leave harsh white lines but blending too much can wipe off the entire application. A few seconds later and viola!

I like how the pencil is creamy enough with the gentle swipe of my finger but a few seconds later, it doesn’t budge. Perfect! I grabbed my 88 eye shadow palette and did a quick blue eye.

Insane how vibrant that is because of the Milk. I approve. And I love it. And I want more of these pencils. NYX has a bunch of them…

Clumps readers have told me to snag Black Bean and French Fries (mouth waters). I actually want ALL of them.

Have you used NYX’s jumbo pencils? Love ’em? Hate ’em? Has anyone tried that Hot Pink? It looks gorgeous!

Mascara Monday: Rimmel Lash Maxxx mascara

If I had to say which brand of mascaras I get the most requests for…it’s Rimmel! Here’s another kid to add to the family…

Rimmel Lash Maxxx

I spy with my brown eye a mascara wand with a comb. WOOOO!!! But was it good or a bust?

Price: 5 out of 5 (I got it for about $5.69 at Target)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims:
Per the packaging…

The truth: I’m just loving that it’s a comb!

What I loved about it: The comb, of course. I LOVED Maybelline’s Lash Stylist and almost died a thousand deaths when I found it was discontinued. Rimmel brought me back to life with this wand.

What I didn’t like: It doesn’t provide a lot of volume or length, but then again, I don’t think it’s supposed to.

Overall: Reading is fundamental. Seriously! If you notice the packaging of this mascara, it said nothing about volumizing or lengthening. This mascara is designed to separate your lashes. One lash is supposed to look like three lashes. It’s all about multiplying, baby! Does Lash Maxx do this? Absolutely!

It really only takes one coat of this mascara to do the job. I found that it REALLY clumps with a second or third coat. Lash Maxxx is great for training the lashes to go in a certain direction. If you’re like me and have lashes that go in allll directions, one coat of Lash Maxx is great at thoroughly coming through the lashes. So to my ladies that have lashes that go straight down, this may be a great mascara for you.

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 1 coats of mascara
I had to zoom in just to show you how serious the separation is.

Would I recommend it?: Sure! Especially if your lashes go alllll over.

A crazed mascara reviewer,

Acne Sucks: Keep those make-up brushes clean!

It’s one of those things that, we SHOULD know. I mean…it makes sense. Dirty brushes on a clean face equals pimples galore, right?

Right.

Don’t forget to clean your make-up brushes on a regular, ladies. This is a task that I have never really been good at, but I’m getting better. In between clean-ups, I like to use baby wipes or make-up wipes.

Just a quick gentle swipe on the brushes and viola!

I like to do a deep cleaning of the brushes at least once or week or so.

I gently massage baby shampoo in the bristles, rinse and lay them out to dry.

How often do you clean your make-up brushes? Do you find that when you don’t your acne is worst?
