Maybelline ColorSensational: Pinks!

It’s the last (wo)man standing the Maybelline’s ColorSensational color family. We covered Red, chatted with Natural and showed loved to Plum. Time for Pink’s debut. Ready?

But wait…first, let me be honest. I’m not a fan of lighter pink lipsticks on darker skin. In fact remember that controversial post from last year about MAC’s Sugar Sweet collection? Yikes! Light pink lipstick is not up my alley. But perhaps Born With It can change my mind.

Maybe?

Nope. My face says it all. This does not scream flattering to me.

The best way to tone down a lipstick like this is to:
a) Use a darker lip liner.
b) Use a darker gloss.

The glosses that accompany Born With It are other pinks. Surprisingly Raspberry Shorbet did it some justice.

That’s a little better. It is still a wee bit pinker than I would like but I won’t jump off of a bridge over it.

Any pink lipstick fans out there?

50 million pound challenge: Weight frustrations

I have a confession. You ready?

I am hard on myself. Always have been. I often forget that change takes time. I like immediate results. I am patient while sitting in traffic. I am patient with toddlers. But patient with my own personal goals and achievements? Mega hard.

I recently had a doctor’s appointment and guess what? My freakin’ blood pressure is up yet again. 148/110 to be exact. I find this to be extremely disheartening as I feel like I am forever pushing myself to the limit physically. And when it comes to my diet, I have done a total 360. So why is my BP still through the roof?

My doctor has recommended that try to loose some weight. *insert exaggerated sigh* I felt like I was on the road to just weight maintenance. However, I have got to drop even more weight. Or else I have to get put on meds. Which would literally have to happen over my dead body as any form of non-holistic/herbal medication (OTC or prescribed) freaks me out.

I don’t even know HOW to loose more weight. It looks like I will have to consult with a professional. I’m not happy about it but I want to live a long and healthy life and will do whatever it takes.

This news is also another reminder to me…that keeping weight off is a lifestyle. It doesn’t end and for the most of us, it will be quite the challenge. Don’t let it discourage you. Continue doing what you have to do be healthy without being so hard on yourself. Yes, I work out 5-6 times a week. But it will be a snowy day in Florida before I turn down creme brulee. While most of my physical/dietary needs have changed, my love for desserts has not. And I’m okay with that. It is all about balance.

At the end of the day, I know that my high blood pressure is probably because of genetics. Not being in control of my health frustrates but I can’t let it stop me.

Hang in there, fam! We can do this!

Dove Visibly Smooth party

I love hosting parties! Planning them has always been a struggle for me though. BUT somehow my parties always end up being a blast with memories made.

Dove sponsored this Girl’s Night Out party and I decided to have it in Tallahassee, Florida. Yeah, uh..absolutely NOTHING goes on there unless it’s football season or legislative session so I had to liven up the city a bit. LOL!

Dove gave us a gift card and told us that we could eat where-ever we wanted. But they wanted us to ride in style.

That’s right…we headed to the Macaroni Grill in a hot stretch limo.

And on our way there a few of the guests and I had some fun with the Flip video cam that Dove gave us. Check this out:

Earlier that day Mama Clumps helped me grab some items for goody bags.

Each guest received a Dove Visibly Smooth deodorant, a lip gloss, nail polish, a mascara (of course), en eye shadow, a Hello Kitty mirror compact, candy, etc. We also purchased give-away prizes.

They included an EcoTools brush sets, Ms. Manicure kit, make-up removers, a Target gift card and StudioTools brushes….all of my favorite items!

During dinner I talked a little bit about Dove Visibly Smooth….

I look all serious, don’t I? HA! Throughout dinner we had “beauty trivia”. Mrs. Dee won the Ms. Manicure set!

And then we cut the Clumps cake…

Pretty yummy, uh? We had a fabulous evening! Many thanks to Dove and my guests. I’m thinking about having another party soon. Who knows…maybe I’ll be in your city!

Disclaimer: Dove sponsored this event in that I was provided a gift card, Flip video camera and transportation for me and my guests. I organized the event and was not paid to write this post. Read our disclosure policy here.

EcoTools Bamboo Bronzer brush

I love EcoTools, yes I do. I love EcoTools, how ’bout you! Don’t give me that cyber-eye. I know I wasn’t the only kid that said that little chant.

Uh, I actually said that yesterday about popcorn. HA! EcoTools does it again with another brush that I’m wondering how I lived without. Their retractable kabuki is a staple in my travel bag. The bronzer brush is quite similar to it and I have been using it daily.

But before we talk about the brush, look at the packaging!

I didn’t think about it until using it, but I suppose you COULD re-use the pouch. They also give a Green Tip on each of their products. Loves it!

A closer look at the brush…

This is now my go to brush for sweeping Sweet As Cocoa from my hairline to my cheeks.

Perfecto!

You can snag this brush for $9.99 at drugstores, Ulta, Target and anywhere EcoTools products are sold.

Clinique’s Even Better Dark Spot Corrector

When I was in Clinique’s Beauty Insider Club last year, we received the original Even Better Skin Tone to review. I fell in love with it, y’all. I mean, IN. LOVE. To see dark spots literally vanish after months of using a serum is amazing.

And it’s not like I’m exagerrating. Just look at the dark spots on my forehead a good two years ago.

And my forehead now…

Clear, kids…clear! All because of skin tone correctors. I love Clinique’s so much that I even sell it in my store. Clinique recently came out with another one and I can not wait to try it out.

It is different than the original Skin Tone Corrector in that it has additional powerful ingredients that will get rid of discoloration and that awful AWFUL hyperpigmentation. Clinique says that the Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector is not only effective for all ethnicities but that it will improve skin tone by 53% in just 12 weeks.

That’s a major claim but I believe it since I found such success with the previous Skin Tone Corrector.

Yours truly will be giving this one a try again. Stay tuned for a formal review.

Have you tried any skin tone correctors?

Mascara Monday: Maybelline XXL Pro Curl Recourber

Next up for Maybelline’s XXL Pro line is the mascara that is all about curl. Curl, baby! Some of us need volume. Some of us desire length. And some of us want curly lashes. I think it’s hard to find a good curl mascara and I seriously believe that to get a good amount of curl, you’ll need to use a eyelash curler.

 How does this baby do?

Maybelline XXL Pro Curl Recourber

Hit the jump to read more if you just can’t take the suspense.

Price: 5 out of 5
Packaging (Brush Wand): 3.5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims:
Per the packaging…

The truth: 45° angle? Uh…I didn’t know there was geometry in mascaras. Help!

What I loved about it: Like…it actually curled. Score!

What I didn’t like: Applying it can be tough because you can’t get much of a grip on the handle.

Overall: I have always been pretty skeptical when it comes to curl mascaras. Their concept always confused me. Like…exactly how can it curl? What is in the formula that makes it curl AND keeps it curled? Talk about a mystery. While I didn’t crack the case on this one, I was pretty amazed at its performance.

First of all, the etymology nerd that is me had to look up what ‘recourber’ meant. It’s French for “to bend”. I wouldn’t know how to conjugate it since my second language is Spanish, pero we digress. Aren’t you glad I cleared that up? Mascara reviews and etymology. Gotta love Clumps!

By George, girls…it curls! I know, I know…I’m am just as shocked as you all are. I really like this mascara and I think it gets the job done. Like all Maybelline XXL Pro mascaras you’ve got a primer on one end and the mascara on the other.

La Primer…

La Mascara…

The curved wand REALLY assists in the application. I used it to press up against my lashes. Like so…

I would hold it in that position for a few seconds and for the same for the next eye. This technique, I think, forces your lashes to curl a bit. Now one of the problems I did run into with this baby was the lack of grip. It was so hard to get good control of the wand because I felt like it kept hitting my face.

Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me and my fat face. Ah well!

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

First the primer…

…look, it’s already curling!And then…

Not bad at all, uh? Now, hold on just a second…I must warn you. The curl may drop just a bit throughout the day. Especially if you’re in a warm, humid or tropical climate i.e. Florida. Still…what is left is pretty impressive.
Go ‘head, Recouber. I approve!

Would I recommend it?: If you are looking for a curl mascara, this one may do you right!

Introducing…the Clumps store. I have coupons too!

At the end of the year, we celebrated Clumps’ new logo, layout and new LLC business. In the midst of all of that I totally forgot to formally introduce our shop!

That’s right…”The Clumps Store”. I tried to think of a niftier name but uh…I couldn’t. LOL! The Clumps Store is through OpenSky and I am honored to be a part of such a strong network of bloggers and fellow businesses owners.

The Clumps Store has all of my favorite products. I have bragged about and loved each and every product in the shop. You know how I’m always talking about how Stila is the longest lasting lip gloss on the market? You can now buy it straight from Clumps!

And the best news is that The Clumps Store has coupon codes as well. For example, since I absolutely LOVE Me Bath’s Choco-holic ice cream, if you use the coupon code MEBATH15, you can get it 15% off. This is on valid on the Me Bath product and this promotion lasts until March 3, 2010.

Pretty cool, uh? I feel all in control and ish…:)

The Clumps Store is always open and you can find it at the top menu bar…

See it? I’m excited, guys! In the future I will adding many more products to the store with more coupon codes. As of right now we only ship to the US and Canada. If there is anything you would like to see in the shop, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Get your shop on!
