FOTD Friday: Work place look tutorial

Happy Friday, family!

So lately I’ve been getting a TON of emails about how I should do more tutorials. Who me? My ‘hardly wear make-up’ self? Well okay…if you insist! I’ve done this work-appropriate look before many times. In fact, it is probably my favorite quick works look.

It’s so unexpected. I mean, who would have thought that a brown a hot pink could make a hot combination? Of course you can use whatever products you have as I’m sure you will yield the same fabulous results.

First up, if you’re like me and have loco brows, tame them bad boys before leaving the house. I have very thick when I don’t over-tweeze them brows and I’m fine with that, I just like to keep them under control.

Next up is priming. Of course this is an optional step but I live in Florida and eye shadow melts within seconds of walking outside. No lie!

Be sure to blend blend blend!

If you feel like you need a little more depth, apply a burgundy eye shadow right in your crease.

Take your favorite pencil, gel or liquid liner and line your lower lashline.

And you KNOW we can’t forget this step…

I felt like the look needed a bit of a POP so I added a bit of silver in the near the tear ducts.

Define those cheekbones with a bit of color.

And there you have it! You’ve got a look perfect for the office space. No matter which co-worker you are.

Which one are you?

I’m definitely the silly one. Never a dull moment in my office. I’m heading to Atlanta this weekend for the World Natural Hair Show. I’m so excited to meet up with fellow natural hair bloggers. To get all of the happ’ns, you can follow my hair blog handle on Twitter at @LocRockin.

Love y’all! Have a great weekend!

Beauty Review: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On eye pencils

You’ve seen me use them in just about ALL of my FOTD Friday posts. You saw me list them as one of my favorite products in 2009. You know that I love them and I can’t stop recommending ’em.

I am struggling to find the words to express how much I love these pencils, y’all. They really are the BEST liners on the market. Now because you love me for my honesty, I’m not going to lie to you. $17 for a pencil is quite the splurge. But you all also know that I’m cheap. And for me to justify spending that much on a pencil, well shucks…it really must be all that and a bag of Stacy’s Cinnamon Sugar Pita Chips (yum).

My UD liner stash…

Now if those pencils look a little stunted, here’s why…every few months Sephora, Ulta and sometimes UrbanDecay.com come out with little sets of these Urban Decay liners. They usually have two separate sets; one with vibrant colors and another with everyday colors. They are around $25 or so. Crazy deal, right? Last season they retailed for a good $15/each on UrbanDecay.com and I snagged both sets.

WAIT! Pause for the cause..according to Urban Decay’s website, you can still get the sets for $20. Get them here. But hurry hurry. Not sure how long this will last Or maybe it’s permanent and I just don’t know it. *shrugs shoulders*

A frugalista will always find a way to save a dime or dollar. Am I right or am I right?

I usually end up having to buy Zero in its full size packaging since I use this creamy black just about every day.

That’s right…I put it right there on the waterline.
And there it stays. All day. Rain, humidity and not even tears of joy (ahem..or sadness) can make it budge. I’m guessing it’s the jojoba oil and Vitamin E that makes it super creamy.
Yes, my darling. It’s true. Very few pencils come close to the awesomeness that is Urban Decay’s. Granted I haven’t tried EVERY eyeliner pencil on the market. But I don’t need to. For I have found the best.
Long live, UD’s eye pencils! Do you have any? Know of a better?
Tell me!
Oh wait! Since we’re talking about UD, check this out.
They have a Family & Friend’s sale!! That’s 30% off until April 19, 2010. You can snag a travel set of glide-on eye pencils for $20!

Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics Spring 2010 collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

La la la la laaaaah! Spring is in the air. At least it is here in Florida. For my ladies who are still in areas where it is a tad bit chilly, sometimes wearing Spring colors brings on Spring-like attitude.

Wait…does that make sense? No? Okay…well, let’s just check on Diamond Cosmetics’ Spring collection!

Razzmatazz is described as a dainty pink. It has pink and purple shimmer and is the quintessential Spring color. I like it!

Orange Blush

What a yummy orange! It almost reminds me of an orange pop. It’s a cream with a jelly finish that applies beautifully.

Hot Lips

Total hotness, right?  This almost neon magenta are my favorite kind of red-esque colors. They are loud and perfect pedicure colors. This is totally off topic but I would love a lipstick this color too!

We’ve got a winner! What a gorgeous blue cream.
Gypsy Pink

It’s a color we’ve seen before but this soft red with white/pink shimmer is just screaming to be konad-ed or topped off with some design.

I can’t remember if I have a color like this or not. It is rather reminiscent of another color in time and for that reason, I love it. Everyone needs a pale blue-grey shimmer polish in their collection.

It’s another great collection from Diamond Cosmetics! I applied 2 coats for each polish and didn’t have any problems. Like with most creams, Tranquility dragged at the cuticles a bit. But is it not worth the out coming?

Hit the image below to snag the entire collection for only $25!

50 million pound challenge: Eat This, Not That…

When I first got serious about changing my eating habits, I almost died.

I’m not kidding.

To go from eating regular butter, sugary jelly and 2% milk to…none of that was ALMOST the death of B. Going cold turkey is hard for anyone. Especially when you don’t consider healthier alternatives.

And then one glorious day I heard about the book Eat This, Not That. It isn’t new. This “No-Diet Weight Loss Solution” book written by the Editor-In-Chief of Men’s Health came out in 2008. I didn’t discover it until a year later and it is changed my life. I’m not even kidding, y’all.

I think this is the most realistic way to begin loosing weight. While most of us KNOW what’s good (green smoothies) and what’s bad (french fries), sometimes it helps to get an idea of what’s “better”.

Here’s an example…

I never want to give up cereal. I’d rather eat healthier cereals. Eat This, Not That displays the stats of various cereals. On the left you eat the “Eat This” and on the right, there’s the “Not That”. The book also gives little tidbits about how to read the labels. Genius!

They do the same thing for your favorite restaurants.

Now don’t get it twisted, sweets. Devouring a doughnut is never the “healthy choice” but if you’re going to take that route, it’s best to go with the one with the least calories and grams of fat. I’d rather eliminate them completely but hey, you gotta be realistic.

And then the book has sections for holidays…

And special circumstances…

I’ve read this book up and down. I’ve got it memorized so well that I know the “healthier” options of  all of the products I pick up at the grocery store. And the same goes for eating out.

This book has really changed my life. I’m thinking it’s the best route to go for those who slowly but surely want to make dietary changes. I also have the Supermarket, Kitchen and Restaurant Survival guides.

You can grab any of these books for less than $15 at your bookstore. I got mine from Amazon.

A fan of these Eat This, Not That? Or not so much?

Celeb Spotlight: Letoya’s coral lips

I’ve spotlighted Letoya on Clumps twice before. She is becoming one of my favorite celebrities when it comes to rocking beautiful make-up looks. She killed me softly with her purple lip and had me running home to try a nude lip. My girl has done it again with a beautiful coral lip.

Stunning! You see…coral is one of those colors that I’ve never learned to appreciate on brown skin. It never seemed flattering. Letoya has proved me wrong. In its subtly, her coral lip is absolutely beautiful and goes great with her coral dress.

I’ve checked my lippy stash and can’t seem to locate a coral lipstick or gloss. Any ideas? What do you use to achieve a beautiful coral lip?

Mascara Monday: Stila Cosmetics Black Diamond mascara

Diamonds on my neck. Diamonds on my wrist. Ah haaa! I’m jivin’, y’all. I don’t have diamonds on my neck or wrist. But I’ve got them on my eye lashes thanks to Stila. Sooo…is this mascara a diamond in the rough? Or just rough?

Stila Cosmetics Black Diamond mascara

Price: 2 out of 5
Packaging (Brush Wand): 3 out of 5
Overall: 3 out of 5

What it claims:
“Lavish your lashes in luxury – swirled with real crushed diamonds, Black Diamond mascara is sure to become your lashes’ new best friend! Swirled with shimmer and infused with genuine Black Diamond powder, this plush, innovative formula leaves you with long, defined, brilliant-looking lashes. “ (source)

The truth:
My eyes aren’t sparkling like diamonds. *tears*
What I loved about it: The packaging is tres chic! I love the swirl-tastic-ness of the blue and silver.

What I didn’t like: It’s a little clumpy wumpy. And it’s hard to get to the silver/blue part of the mascaras because the wand goes straight down. I can’t get it!

Overall:  For the most part, I’ve been afraid of glitter-y mascaras. I have one experience and have ran far far away from any other glitter infused mascaras. Those little glitter pieces always seem to fall in my eyes; no matter how microscopic they are.

Stila’s Diamond mascaras are a little different. you don’t really get to the silver and blue parts of the mascara. Which kinda sucks because not getting that part defeats the whole point of using that kind of mascara, right? Nonetheless…it’s still a pretty decent mascara. It comes with a traditional wand.

The lengethening factor was okay but I wasn’t super impressed. I did a experience a bit of flaking hours after a inital application. No bueno!

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: Hmmm…I think it’s a pass!

Until next time…..

FOTD Friday: My new camera, tattoos and yellow polish

Hi lovelies! Sooo…guess who got a new camera? Yes, it’s about time. One of the many roles that comes with being a blogger is attempting to be a photographer. I take it pretty seriously. For every 1 photo that I post, I took at least 12. Insane, right? For the most part my Sony Cybershot DSC W55 has been pretty solid for the three years I’ve had it. It’s in THEE worst condition but manages to crank out pretty good HD videos and photos.
But it was time to upgrade to a snazzier Sony Cybershot. I’m still learning how to use it but in the meantime, I’ve been taking some pretty cool random shots.
But first my FOTD. I really wanted to do a soft purple eye using some of my favorite Stila eye shadows.

But for whatever reason that didn’t come out too well.

And it’s written all over my face. The lippie, however, is a fabulous new lipstick from Lancome. Stay tuned for that feature! And now for random photos.

Wrist tat at the wheel.

Do you have any tattoos? The Clumps Facebook group had a TON to say about tats. Some ladies even posted theirs. And they are beautiful! Many of my friends told me that getting a tattoo there was a bad idea and that it would make me unemployable. Know what? Most people never even noticed it.

I have a little round window in my house that peers right into the window of a neighbor across the street. Sometimes when I’m wandering in the kitchen late at night for a drink of water,  I can see her wandering in her kitchen too. Strange!

Our past can  help us prepare for the future. Sankofa.

Any Erykah Badu fans? I have every single one of her albums and know all of the songs. She’ll be in concert in Miami and I won’t be able to make it. *tears*

I don’t like wire fences. I don’t like fences period. Unless they are at zoos. I don’t need a polar bear charging at me. But I don’t really like zoos either. I feel so bad for the animals.

Do you have any brands of polish where you only own ONE of the polishes? Such would be the case for Creative.

Yellow polishes! Like ’em? Hate ’em? Post on those coming soon…

I am really falling in love with photography again, y’all. I think I’ll take a class this summer.

Off I go to snap more shots.

Love y’all! Have a great weekend!
