Beauty Review: Venus Embrace razor

Well, it’s summer time in Florida.

I’m not even kidding, y’all. It is December and it was freakin’ 85 degrees the other day. I’m not complaining. You see, in Florida…we don’t have winters, we have cold fronts that come every 2-3 days or so. So while some of you can relate to the “weather outside is frightful”…I’m still wearing sleeveless tops, sandals and skirts.

Somebody out there is cursing me out, I know. I’m sorry. But what I’m not sorry about is shaving every day. Who really has time for that? I don’t! I am also a girl who isn’t ashamed of stubble either.

And that’s why Venus Embrace is for me.

What’s to be said about the Embrace:

“Embrace has several key features:

· Five curve-hugging blades positioned closely together and spring mounted to create a shaving surface that adjusts to the natural contours and curves of a woman’s body.

· A Protective Ribbon of Moisture that surrounds the shaving surface for smooth glide.

· A Soft Grip handle that improves control, even when wet.

· A ShowerPod® with suction cup attachments for convenient in-shower storage.”

This thing has 5 blades. Not 3, not 4 but FIVE! You know what that means? That means I’m shaving less. *love sigh* It also means my legs aren’t getting as much irritation from constant shaving. This is especially important for sensitive armpits. No wonder the Embrace was recently named one of Allure magazine’s 2009 “Best of Beauty” products. And they’ve won a good other 15 awards too. Well, make that 16!

I’m giving it the “Thanks to you I don’t have to shave every 5 minutes” award. Yay Embrace!

Ahh…now I can go back to frolicking in dew sprinkled grass.

…slick sexy legs and all!

Have you tried the Embrace? You can’t tell me it’s not awesome!

Mascara Monday: CoverGirl Queen volume mascara

Nope, it’s not new. You probably haven’t seen any commercials for this mascara in a while….if ever. I am huge fan of CoverGirl’s Queen line. Did the mascara impress me? Hmm….

CoverGirl Queen Volume mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 ($7.00-ish at drugstores)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 2 out of 5
Overall: 3 out of 5

What it claims: The packaging…

The truth:
Eh…it’s not BAD.

What I loved about it: It gave a good amount of volume.

What I didn’t like: The wand was massive. I’m so not a fan of wands like this:

Overall: I didn’t have have high expectations for this baby. And I guess that’s a good thing because it really didn’t let me down. When I think of CoverGirl mascaras, my mind always flashes back to the fabulousness that is Lash Blast. CoverGirl got it right with that mascara. Don’t get me wrong, Queen isn’t “bad”. It’s just an average mascara. Now and days mascaras are vibrating and have funky wands and colors and well, it doesn’t look like CG Queen volume can compete.

The larger wand makes for difficult application. For ladies with smaller lids and lashes, y’all will endure somewhat of a struggle. This wand doesn’t work too well with getting in the corners either.

In the volumizing department, it fairs well. In fact, I was shocked at the amount of volume that I got. I didn’t see much length but the volume was enough for me. No real major problems either. *yawn* It works. It works well. But don’t don’t expect to be blown away. And if you’re looking for just a bit of volume and don’t need any tricks….you may like this one. But if you’re like me and want fireworks after applying a new mascara…NEXT!

Lashes without mascara
(did NOT curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: Only if you find it on sale or just have a general interest on how it works. I think there are better ones out there. But if you do end up getting it, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed?

What do you think about CoverGirl’s Queen volume? A fan?

A crazed mascara reviewer,

FOTD Friday: Make Up For Ever, I Love Forever!

Have I ever told y’all how much I love Make Up For Ever? Their eye shadows are impeccable. Amazing. Phenomenal. They rock beyond belief. They only thing stopping me from indulging in more of their products is the hefty price tag. It’s tough to give up $19 a shadow…even if they are are all that and a bag of pita chips. If it weren’t for the discounts at The Makeup Show NYC, I’m not sure if I would be able to play around with MUFE as much.

Whaaat? I’m being honest. Y’all know I’m a bit frugalista.

I decided to play around with some pinks. It took me awhile to warm up to pinks. I didn’t think they could work well on brown skin. How gorgeous are these?

And some swatches….

Oh yeah, MUFE…you got it goin’ on and you know it. I was rushing for work and didn’t have much time to really pack on the color like I wanted to. I called in another color to help me out.

I really wish MUFE had names for their colors. They go by numbers and since mine sit in a palette and I didn’t think to mark them before placing them in the palette. I don’t even much know what is what. Ahhh well…

My first few attempts with dealing with the mattes had me struggling.

I tweaked it a bit and tried to make it work appropriate and neat. I also played around with some liquid liner (gulp) and did a cat eye. Haven’t done one of those in for-ev-er!

MAC Sweet As Cocoa blush

NARS Edie e/s
NARS Albatross highlighter

Iman Cosmetics Luxury Liquid eyeliner in Onyx
Diorshow mascara in Plum

MAC Lip liner in Chestnut (brown girl classic, right? lol)
Maybelline ColorSensational lipstick in Nearly There
Maybelline ColorSensational lipgloss in Broadway Bronze

I mean….I don’t know. I’m not 100% feeling this look. I definitely could have spent more time blending and packing on the color for high intensity color payoff. MUFE shadows really aren’t for the weak. You have to bring your A game if you blame on rollin’ with these top dawgs.

I’ve learned my lesson. Still love you, MUFE! And we shall meet again. More preferably on a weekend when I can be all free and uninhibited.

Any of ya’ll dabble in Make Up For Ever?

Love ’em? Hate ’em?

Have an awesome weekend,

Amor de Lacquer: Diamond Cosmetics’ Holiday ’09 Collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to

Ready for another Diamond Cosmetics polish review? This time we’re going to be playing around with their beautiiiiful holiday collection?

Let’s go!

Blue Diamonds

Um, wooooow…..I don’t own a blue like this. Blue Diamonds is amazingly sparkly. The silver glitter isn’t the least bit chunky so application was easy. This color reminds me of a bright blue sky with stars shinning through. Whoa…how cool would that be to see?

Diamond’s Diamond

This baby works best for layering. It looks funky on my nails solo but I would imagine it would make any of your favorite non-glittery polishes pop! Diamond Cosmetics has a similar color like this called Sweet As Sugar.

Amethyst & Diamonds

Oh la laaa….check out my favorite of the bunch. Amethyst & Diamond’s is like a violet version of Blue Diamonds. How gorgeous is it? This baby has is a notch down from a holo. What a keeper!

Rubies & Diamonds

Crazy application, right? Yeah…I don’t know what’s wrong with Rubies & Diamonds. It wasn’t showing me much love when applying it solo. It does a lot better with layering. And when it is accompanied with other polishes, why…it just looks fabulous.

See….that’s better!

Another hit from Diamond Cosmetics. I love the color selection of these polishes. While I love green polishes to death, it would have been so “expected” for a holiday collection. The “diamond” theme is super unique. I have yet to have a REAL problem with any of my Diamond Cosmetics polishes. I did a good 3 coats for each application. Rubies & Diamonds could probably go for a fourth as it is not AS opaque at the others.

Right now you can get all of these babies together for an easy $15. This also includes their matte top coat which is AMAZING!! I’ll be reviewing that soon.

Until then….get them all.

Clumps will always and forever love Diamond Cosmetics. Rock on!

See any you like?
Your fellow nail polish junkie,

OCC Lip Tars….I need more!

I’ve had these things for a minute. I have been to three of The Powder Group’s events and OCC had a booth at every one. I keep forgetting!

I need your help. Any lip tar fans out there? Which ones should I haul?
