I’m rocking the red pump!

Red Pump Widget

It’s National Women’s And Girl’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Along with breast cancer, diabetes, and heart disease awareness, I am passionate about spreaking AIDS/HIV awareness. My blog sister and friend Luvvie along with her co-founder Karen have spearheaded The Red Pump Project. Their goal is to get as many bloggers as possible to ‘Rock the Red Pump’ by posting widgets on their blogs. This will create awareness in the blogosphere for not only bloggers, but the many that read our blogs.

Did you know that women represent 27% of all new AIDS diagnoses, with African-American women accounting for 66% of that group? Awareness, education and protection are the keys!

I would have shown a picture of me rocking my red pump in real life but the genius that is me forogt my sexy and painful hot red pumps. Instead I’m rocking a red folder.

Yeah, don’t ask. :) Spread the word, my loves. Tell everyone you know about The Red Pump Project and their initiative. Keep your friends and family members informed. For additional information about National Women’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, click here.

Y’all stay beautiful!

Beauty Review: Urban Decay Ink for Eyes

Four scores and seven years ago (actually it was November of last year but go along with me) I was in need of trying something new. As a beauty blogger, it seems like I am always trying something new, right? But I always end up going back to my favorite products. I was bored. I needed some beauty action.

And then I saw it…

Nothing like a coffin-like item to peek your interest. And the tattoo-lover that is me adored the design and the name of Urban Decay’s new liner…

Ink for Eyes. That’s pretty a pretty awesome name, UD. What they say about this liner:
“It’s everything you want in a cream eyeliner! More precise than a pencil, more forgiving than a liquid, this super-smooth formula offers more control, play time, and buildable coverage than your average liner.

Create razor-sharp lines or smoky bedroom eyes… the creamy formula and double-ended applicator make it easy. Try the angled liner brush for precise details, or use the smudger for blending and drama. With such a wide variety of intriguing shades and ways to apply, you’re only limited by your imagination. (Cheesy, but true.)” (source)

I dig the packaging. It’s by far the largest cream liner that I own but it’s unique and functional. I love that it comes with a mirror and slot for an eye liner brush. Thanks for thinking of me, UD!
Because I didn’t own a green cream liner, I figured it was a good time to try out Loaded; a deep green.

Yes, it really is as creamy and velvety as it looks. Because most gel/cream liners are housed in pots, you usually have to position your brush in such a way that it can pick up just the right amount of liner. Ink for Eyes is super easy. Just a swipe swipe down the middle.

Our friend Swiper the Fox knows what to do.

And viola!

An effortless application on the lower lash line. Urban Decay has 5 other colors of these babies that retail for $22/each. And did I mention they are great for traveling? Loves it!

Have you tried these yet? Whatcha think?

Amor de Lacquer: China Glaze Up and Away collection

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

It’s been a looooong time since I’ve indulged in a China Glaze collection. While most of them have been appealing to me, I’m trying to be a little more cautious with my polish purchasing. Sometimes you get to a point where you just have too many of the same color, or something similar, ya know?

But China Glaze got me this time around. Check out the promo pic…

A collection of creams? *faints* Must.snag.all!

But snag all I did not do. You see, I have this thing called an empty wallet self-control. I only purchased 4 of the 12 polishes. And those babies would beeee….

Re-Fresh Mint is soooo cool. I love pale creamy greens. I don’t have any colors like this is my collection. It is definitely a must have. Even if it does tend to drag at the cuticles a bit.

Four Leaf Clover is ridiculous. In a good way, I mean. What a beautiful green. It seems like I would have already owned a color like this, but nope! My camera shows Four Leaf Clover looking a bit aqua-ish, but nope…it is a true green.

It’s such a fun color and it made me want to pull out my dotting tool and get to work.

I ca-learly need to be practicing with the dotting tool a bit, eh? Come on, class. We digress.

Grape Pop smudged on me a bit and now that I’ve had it for awhile, I’m realizing that I have other purples like it. But exactly how many gorgeous purple creams can you have?

Lemon Fizz is such a gorgeous soft yellow. I don’t have a yellow like this. While most yellows send you to Streaky Land, Lemon Fizz was absolutely perfect. Am I the only one craving Lemon Heads?

I funk-ed it a bit with some straight glitter.

What a great collection, China Glaze! I am quite satisfied with my owning only one-third (did I do my math right?)of the collection. Up and Away also has pink, peach and orange-ish colors; all worth a try if you are in the market for some new and cool polishes.

I got these from Head2ToeBeauty.comfor $2.99 a bottle.

Have you seen this collection yet? What do you think?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

Mascara Monday: Lancome Hypnose Drama

So far I’ve been pretty impressed with Lancome’s mascaras. Is this another winner?

Lancome Hypnose Drama

Hit the jump to read more if you just can’t take the suspense.

Price: 3 out of 5
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims:
Per the packaging…

The full contact brush, with its S-shaped curve, grasps and loads lashes for a fanned out, eye-popping, full body fringe. It works magic on tiny lashes. Even dramatizes corner lashes other brushes miss—or worse, mess. (source)

The truth: Um….WOW!!!

What I loved about it: The S-shaped wand is awesome! But it’s not so much the wand that makes application great…it’s the bristles and how separated they are. Perfection!

What I didn’t like: I can’t think of one thing I didn’t like. And when you see the before/after pictures, you’ll agree with me.

Overall: It’s very rare that I find a find a REALLY good volume mascara. And when I do find one, I usually have to put it to the side to review other mascaras. I’ve been sticking with Lancome Hypnose Drama for quite some time now. I’m on my second tube. This says A LOT. Aside from the price, I think it is definitely a must have for any volume-seeking lady. But you get what you pay for hence why I have no problem saving my pennies for this mascara.

I’m not sure why, but it has a pleasant scent to it. But don’t worry…it’s not TOO overpowering. It is a wee bit heavy on the lashes but only if you over-do it on coats.

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 1 coats of mascara

…and then with one more coat

Insane, right? One coat gives me great lashes but two coats gives me crazy drama. Loves it!

Would I recommend it?: Absolutely!

Other Lancome mascaras I have reviewed:
Lancome Hypnose
Lancome Définicils Pro
Lancome Oscillation

Lancome Oscillation Powerbooster primer

Black Women in Hollywood

Let’s be honest…it’s a rarity. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, it’s important to acknowledge the few but dynamic Black women in Hollywood. The following video brought tears to my eyes. From Queen Latifah to Mary J. Blige, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Kimberly Elise…I am just in awe at presence these women have. I feel as if I know them because their stories on the silver and TV screen have all touched me in some way.

Check out the video from Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards Luncheon. Am I the only one that still sees Taraji Henson and thinks Baby Boy? My Auntie has come a long way and I feel like a proud niece! Y’all love how I claim celebrities as my relatives, right? Ha!

What I would have given to attend that event. Next year, y’all. Next year. :)

FOTD Friday: Strawberry/Blueberry Milk

Happy Friday, friends! It took long enough but I finally found some inspiration. And I owe it all to NYX’s jumbo pencil in Milk. Why didn’t y’all tell me how awesome this pencil was? Seriously…where have I been? I’ve heard of fellow beauty bloggers using this as a base but WOW! I never thought it would make my eye shadow pop the way it did. See!

Click the jump to see what the final look looked like!

I was in the mood of doing something a little “out there” with my Make Up For Ever shadows. In a perfect world I would know the numbers to these colors. But this world ain’t perfect and so I don’t. HA! I titled this post strawberry/blueberry milk because that’s what the colors look like. Or am I just hungry? Hmm…
On to the look..

Did I ever tell y’all that I have a slight lazy eye? I’m not kidding. I have to struggle to “lift” my left eye because it tends to droop a great deal–especially when I’m smiling for a picture. I’m getting better at lifting it though. NOW I’m ready for America’s Next Top Lazy Eye Model. Holla!
I had to get all “extra”…lol.

I’ve been wearing head scarves a lot lately. Sometimes the hair needs a break from the elements, know what I mean?

I was mega impressed at that NYX pencil’s performance. I’ll have to do a complete review on it soon. Yes, I feel a little loser-ish for just now getting on the bandwagon. Ah well… Better late than never, I guess.

I’m off to Tampa Bay for the weekend. My girl Kamay is getting married. I’m so happy for her!

Have a fabulous weekend,

Maybelline ColorSensational: Pinks!

It’s the last (wo)man standing the Maybelline’s ColorSensational color family. We covered Red, chatted with Natural and showed loved to Plum. Time for Pink’s debut. Ready?

But wait…first, let me be honest. I’m not a fan of lighter pink lipsticks on darker skin. In fact remember that controversial post from last year about MAC’s Sugar Sweet collection? Yikes! Light pink lipstick is not up my alley. But perhaps Born With It can change my mind.

Nope. My face says it all. This does not scream flattering to me.

The best way to tone down a lipstick like this is to:
a) Use a darker lip liner.
b) Use a darker gloss.

The glosses that accompany Born With It are other pinks. Surprisingly Raspberry Shorbet did it some justice.

That’s a little better. It is still a wee bit pinker than I would like but I won’t jump off of a bridge over it.

Any pink lipstick fans out there?

50 million pound challenge: Weight frustrations

I have a confession. You ready?

I am hard on myself. Always have been. I often forget that change takes time. I like immediate results. I am patient while sitting in traffic. I am patient with toddlers. But patient with my own personal goals and achievements? Mega hard.

I recently had a doctor’s appointment and guess what? My freakin’ blood pressure is up yet again. 148/110 to be exact. I find this to be extremely disheartening as I feel like I am forever pushing myself to the limit physically. And when it comes to my diet, I have done a total 360. So why is my BP still through the roof?

My doctor has recommended that try to loose some weight. *insert exaggerated sigh* I felt like I was on the road to just weight maintenance. However, I have got to drop even more weight. Or else I have to get put on meds. Which would literally have to happen over my dead body as any form of non-holistic/herbal medication (OTC or prescribed) freaks me out.

I don’t even know HOW to loose more weight. It looks like I will have to consult with a professional. I’m not happy about it but I want to live a long and healthy life and will do whatever it takes.

This news is also another reminder to me…that keeping weight off is a lifestyle. It doesn’t end and for the most of us, it will be quite the challenge. Don’t let it discourage you. Continue doing what you have to do be healthy without being so hard on yourself. Yes, I work out 5-6 times a week. But it will be a snowy day in Florida before I turn down creme brulee. While most of my physical/dietary needs have changed, my love for desserts has not. And I’m okay with that. It is all about balance.

At the end of the day, I know that my high blood pressure is probably because of genetics. Not being in control of my health frustrates but I can’t let it stop me.

Hang in there, fam! We can do this!
