4 Reasons Why I Like Being On the JOHNSON’s Baby Cares Council

Okay, so don’t hate me for it but a few months ago I went to NYC and totally forgot to tell y’all about it. I know, I’m horrible. The JOHNSON’S Baby Cares family sent me to NYC to visit one of their home bases and while there I not only got the opportunity to hang with some of my favorite fellow bloggers, but also learned about the brand’s newest launches, got to speak with some of their scientists AND I got an idea as to what other cool things the brand had going on. It was an exciting 2 days and gave me more of a reason to be proud to be a member of the Council.

And yeah, I know I’m supposed to be that natural mama who had a drug-free birth, ate her placenta, pledges allegiance to coconut oil and drinks her greens and there’s just no way I should be supporting a brand like JOHNSON’s but give me a second to explain why I do support them, mkay?

They don’t mind changing

Recently JOHNSON’s has reformulated some of their products to remove many of the not so good ingredients. This a HUGE deal. Mainly because, helllooo…it requires the scientists to work diligently to provide the same product but use different formulas. Everything has to look the same including the color, scent and touch. It’s a gruesome job that many companies won’t even think about doing, but JOHNSON’S did and while many of the products still aren’t perfect to many, they are better.

They tell you what’s in the products

This is kinda cool because many brands don’t. Some brands will say “Natural ingredients”. Ummm….what? Excuse me but WHAT natural ingredients? Details are important. Especially when it comes to baby products. JOHNSON’s has nothing to hide and will lay out what each ingredient is and why it is used in a product.

Johnson's Baby

They have products for us crunchy mamas

Not gonna lie – I’ve never used the pink baby lotion on Elle because while it does smell good, we are a fragrance-free home. For me, fragrances trigger headaches. JOHNSON’s Naturals has products that remove the overpowering fragrances but still ensures that the pH level is where it should be for a baby’s delicate skin. So yes, I will firmly admit that it was this line that completely won me over for the brand.

They support women and mothers.

I know you’re all like “Whaaaatver B! All of these companies claim  tosupport women.” So maybe you’re right. Many may claim that they do but JOHNSON puts their money (literally) where their mouth is. From joining Save the Children to help babies everywhere, launching the Care Cards campaign and making the You’re Doing OK, Mom” video, at the very least, the company does a good job at pretending to love and support women and mothers. Of course, I know they are doing more than pretending because I have actually talked with the men and women behind the brand and I don’t know. I refuse to believe that they’d invest their time and lives in sending such a resounding message that women and mothers deserve help, recognition and love. I can’t be that naive. Right?

I could really go on and on but you can look forward to seeing more posts of different (not so baby-esqe) ways to use the products and some of the other awesome products that JOHNSON’s has that may appeal to my fellow fitness guy and girls.

For The Sweetest Smelling You…

Mother’s Day is coming up! Every time this holiday rolls around I always forget that now I’m a Mother, too. I instantly get in “What should I get my Mom?” mode. Pretty sweet of me, huh? Grandma Clumps is big on scents and so I’m thinking that maybe I should get her some fragrances this year. The Love2Love fragrance line recently hit Walmart stories nationwide and while I haven’t sniffed these fragrances just yet, something tells me they will be woooonderful.

Love2Love

The brand has launched 4 blended scents including the following:

  • Freesia Violet Petal
  • Orange Blossom White Musk
  • Fresh Rose Peach
  • Jasmine Sparkling Mimosa

You gotta love the diversity in the scents. From floral to citrusy and woodsy, there are notes to suit everyone and I think I have an idea of which one my Mom would go for.

Love2Love-Freesia-and-Violet

She’d be all over the Freesia Violet Petal since she loves the color purple and appreciates floral fragrances. These are reasonably priced at $9.98 (for 3.4 oz) and $6.98 (240ml) and something tells me that they would go pretty quickly. Your best bet? Head to your local Walmart to scoop up a bottle or two for the Mother or the Mother figure in your life. Or if you’d rather get something for yourself, I’m thinking these scents are perfect for Spring.

If you’re feelin’ lucky, visit Walmart.com and design your dream date for a chance to win a Hawaiian vacation. Share the date across your your favorite social media channels with family members and friends by using the hashtag #love2lovewalmart. Sounds easy enough, right? You can’t win if you don’t try! Mother's Day

Good luck and here’s to smellin’ like Spring!

Color Secrets Professional goodies

Emerald Green and Fuschia Pink

I recently received some Color Secrets Professional products and I have to say…I really like them.

Color Secrets polishes

Color Secrets Polishes are 100% vegan, cruelty free, and Big 3 Free. They have a great shine quality to them so if you do not have time to put on a top coat these are perfect for you. There will be 144 colors available for you to love and purchase for only $3.99 a pop.

Color Secrets lipglosses

When it comes to lipgloss I am as boring as you could get. I stick with the clears  and maybe a light shimmer. The shades didn’t have colors on them, but I loved them all! The pink adds a great pop of color that will brighten up any outfit and the shimmer has a subtle sexiness that highlights your lips. I carry these two with me everywhere. They are a tad sticky for my taste but still perfect.

Color Secrets mascara

Mascara is one of my favorite beauty products and something I will not leave the house with. I love mascara so much that I have a emergency tube in my car just in case I forget to put it on at home. Color Secrets Professional Rich Jewels Color Mascara is a lot of fun and something you will definitely want to purchase. I used the Fuchsia Pink and Emerald Green and I love it. It is not something that you would wear to work or during an interview, but it something fun to add when you are going out on the town. As much as I loved it, it is not the greatest lengthening mascara. My suggestion is put on your favorite mascara first to get your length and then put on the color mascara to get your color and length. The rich jewel mascara comes in 6 hues and they are only $3.99 each.

Eggplant and Emerald Green

Along with the colorful mascara Color Secrets has rich jewel gel eyeliner which is gorgeous. I am just now learning how to use gel eyeliner and I love how smooth and easy this is. At a price of $5.99 this might turn into my go to gel eye-liner.

Color Secrets Professional products are available at select Walgreens locations and available online .

The Buzz on Beecology

Lavender. So here’s the thing about it. You either like it…or you don’t. Many years ago before I really got into essential oils, I could not stand the smell of it. It’s smelled like dirt. I truly had to grow to love it and now I can’t get enough of it. Lavender truly has relaxing and calming effects. I’ve experienced this firsthand and I love ending the day with body care products that have a little bit of lav dumped in.

Beecology

Remember Beecology? I did a quick feature of them a while back and now I’m back with a formal review of some of the products that they sent me. If you’d much rather spend your money supporting the hardworking smaller businesses, shop at Beecology! They are awesome and personable and on top of that, they have phenomenal products at decent prices.

Honey & Lavender Soap

Their Honey & Lavender Soap ($5.99) is so so sweet and when Elle’s eczema isn’t flaring up, I use it for her baths. The added shea butter and avocado oil provides just a touch of moisture and the honey mixed with lavender provides such a nice combination of sweet and floral.

Beecology Honey & Lavender Soap

The Natural Lavender & Bergamot Body Wash ($8.99) is pretty stellar too.

Beecology Lavender & Bergamot Body Wash

With more of a floral scent, I’m diggin’ the simple ingredients list. I tend to prefer this over the soap because I feel like it provides just a bit more moisture in my insanely dry skin. And the scent – oh goodness. Again, you really have to be a fan of lavender to love this soap.

Beecology Lavendar body wash

But wait…you aren’t a fan of lavender? No problem, Beecology carries other glorious soaps, body washes, shampoos and lotions of various fragrances like…

  • Natural Honey and Peppermint
  • Natural Grapefruit & Lemongrass
  • Cucumber & Green Tea
  • Honey Oatmeal Morning Peppermint
  • Tea Tree Oil

See! They’ve thought of something for everyone. I will continue supporting this small business that not only provides such awesome products but puts a ton of love and care into their packaging and formulas.

Soooo, about lavender…love it? Or hate it?

Beds for Adults…and for Adults Whose Kids Have Moved Out

This post is brought to you by the very cool brand FRETTE and if you didn’t know that bedding could be so beautiful, then honey…you live with a toddler. Welcome to my world. The world of “What’s that spot?”s and “Why shouldn’t I change the baby on the bed again?”-type questions. Pre-baby I took so much pride in my linen and bedding. I was serious, y’all. I had a whole little system down. And now I have this…

Bed sheets

Between pregnancy nausea and exhaustion, I got lazy. This is where FRETTE comes in. The luxury bedding site has stunning prints that will easily have your guests trying to swipe your sheets after they come for a visit. So long “I purchased these in college” sheets. These sheets and comforters are all kinds of grown up. They are sexy and stunning and gorgeous and okay, well yeah…somewhat expensive, too!

I did say luxury, girlfriend. But, I’ll tell you what…in about 25 years when my child raising days are over (right? kinda? hopefully?), I will definitely be investing in FRETTE’s Hotel Classic collection.

FRETTE bedding

There’s always something refreshing and comforting about crisp white sheets and I’ve always wanted to own a stunning white duvet in my bedroom. Probably not a good idea at this time in my life but just you wait…I’ll get there. And for us beauty lovers, FRETTE is giving us the chance to purchase lovely towels and bathroom essentials since many of us spend our lives in there anyway.

FRETTE bath

Makes sense. I’ve always been a fan of lighter towels and wash cloths too because I can always get an idea if I’ve removed everything. Does that make me weird? Probably. Oh well.

Do you feel the need to invest in high-quality and fancy bedding and towels? Or is it just me?

butter LONDON doesn’t just sell polishes. But you knew that…right?

So butter LONDON makes more than just nail polish. Did you know that? I knew but then I forgot. They do nail polishes so well that I’ve never really had to the desire to spend my money on any of their other products. Years ago I tried their lipgloss and it was so insanely fragranced that I vowed to never try any of their Lippys again.

Butter London

Well, that was forever and a day ago and I couldn’t NOT try these samples that I got in the mail. I’m no fool. bL has lips, cheeks and eye products but when you visit their site, you’ll see that it’s really the nail products that they display.

Butter LONDON Cosmetics

Not that I’m complain’. There’s a reason why I collect buttahs. But let’s take a closer look at some of their other beauties.

The Wink Eye Pencils are a lot like the eye pencils from many other brands. Nothing fancy but the formula is nice, smooth, build-able and it doesn’t budge. Like at all.

Butter LONDON Wink

My swatch of Cheerio (a gilded yellow shimmer) stayed put a few minutes after application. I don’t really know how to wear yellows well, but honey, I’ll be trying because this is gorgeous. It goes for $18.

Butter LONDON Cheerio

bL also has a nice selection of creamy eyeshadows. Okay, so honestly…I’ve never been a fan of these type of products. My lids are insanely oily and I have the toughest time getting these creamy products to adhere. Still, Sun Kiss WINK Cream Eye Shadow is nice and muted gold that will complement many skin tones. It also goes for $18. And back to the Lippys…

Butter LONDON Lippy

GOOD NEWS! They don’t smell like flowers on speed anymore. Yay! The subtle whiff of vanilla didn’t trigger a headache and all was well. It’s a thick gloss and like many sheerer glosses like this, the color in the tube does not translate on your lips.

Butter LONDON Lippy Twee

Yeah. I kinda hate when that happens. If the tube is pink, I want pink, bro! But hey, Twee is cool with me. The added moisturization kept my normally ashy lips in check and for that, I am grateful. Such awesomeness will run you $20. And then there’s Chuffed…

Butter LONDON Chuffed

I won’t spend too much time here because we already know how much I want bL to run for President, but yeah…this full coverage, shimmery bright orange is stunnning.

Overall, I think butter LONDON does well with cosmetics. The price points are a bit higher than I think they should be, but fans will appreciate the diverse colors, great formulas and nice collections that they come out with.

Have you tried anything other than nail polish from buttah?

Two Reasons Why Urban Decay Should Give Us More Nail Polishes

Oh dang, Urban Decay…y’all should really do more nail polishes because these two here…

Urban Decay nail polish

Ohmigoodness. They are some kind of awesome. And I’m not just saying that because EVERYTHING Urban Decay makes is awesome. The formula of these are just spectacular and when I got press samples of them, I couldn’t wait to take ‘em for a drive. The outside packaging alone is fierce and wild and everything we would expect from UD.

Urban Decay nail polishes

These limited edition polishes retail for $15 which sits nicely in Urban Decay’s pricing profile. Bang is a bright orange with a subtle iridescent pearl and on the outside it looks all normal and meh.

Urban Decay Bang

But when it hits the nails, that subtle iridescent pearl really shines in and out of light.

Urban Decay Bang nail polish

Gorgeous, right? This shade has been on my toes for a good week now. And then there’s Chaos…

Urban Decay Chaos nail polish

I’ve always appreciated a good cobalt blue and this one doesn’t disappoint. Zoya has quite a few cobalt blue polishes but this one is nice because like Bang, it has that nice pearly iridescence sheen.

The Unexpected Greatness of Biore’s Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser

The other week I made an unexpected trip to my sister’s house in Orlando. With only minutes to pack before Grand Mama Clumps was ready to get on the road, I forgot just about everything. I forgot face wash, make-up, and lotion. Thankfully I was going to a house that was filled with all 3 of those necessities. Brittany had a sample of Biore’s Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser and I couldn’t wait to try it.

Untitled

I like to use the same face wash ( Cetaphil) because I am always fearful of different products breaking out my skin. I saw the Deep Pore Cleanser and I wasn’t too thrilled about it, but because I didn’t have any other face wash and I could NOT go an entire weekend without washing my face, I took a risk and tried it.

Untitled

From the moment I put it on my skin, I was in love. Charcoal naturally draws out all the impurities in your skin and gives you fresh clean feel and look. This is one of those products that I would use after a night of wearing heavy make-up or after a work-out when you are all nice and sweaty.

Untitled

It will open up those clogged pores and hopefully prevent pimples. That said, it’s great stuff and I’m so glad that I gave it a try! The Biore Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser is available at ULTA, Target, CVS and drugstores nationwide for around $6.

Do you see yourself using a charcoal cleanser?
