Sephora’s Mascara Sampler and more….

Happy Monday! I don’t have a mascara review this time around but I have something better.

Sales!! Yeahhhh baby, you know you love savin’ a dollar or two. Or ten. Sephora has some awesome samplers that are worth taking a look at.

First up is the Blink, Winks & Brows Eye Deluxe Sampler. I hiiiiighly recommend this baby here for the lady who wants to take some baby steps into higher-end products. Don’t get me wrong, I will always be a drugstore diva but there’s nothing wrong with adding a little luxury to the beauty stash. This sampler allows you to get a little taste of the good life for half the price.

[Warning]: After using Lancome Bi-Facil Makeup Remover, uh….you will never turn back. It is the BEST.

Blink, Winks & Brows Eye Deluxe Sampler ($112 value for $40)
This limited-edition set features deluxe samples of handpicked eye essentials that are sure to deliver a swoon-worthy gaze. From a botanical brow gel to a lock-it-down primer to a tawny eyeshadow trio, this kit allows you to play with your products and create endless eye looks.

This set includes:
- 0.02 oz Sephora Electro Liner Copper
- 0.017 oz Anastasia Brow Gel

But if you aren’t a chronic mascara reviewer, this sampler would be perfect for you!

FOTD Friday:The Bahamian Edition

Happy Friday!!

[Really quickly—I just wanted to send out my thoughts and prayers to the Jackson family. Michael Jackson’s music was a staple in my household. He is a legend. And the beautiful thing about legends is that they live on forever. I believe in remembering the past and celebrating the present (Sankofa). He will join Luther Vandross, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Marian Anderson and others. This PYT will always love you, MJ!]

It just occurred to me that I never posted photos of my trip to the Bahamas. And since my skin is currently enduring burns in 3 places (brown skin DOES get sunburned….I’ll spare you the photos) I didn’t that that doing a FOTD would not be a good idea.

So let’s do a POTD–Place of the Day.

Welcome to Nassau, Bahamas.

I’ve been here once before but really got to explore the city THIS trip.

The first two days were nothing but this…..

I know. Uneventful, right? It rained. And rained. And rained. And rained. Somehow, it didn’t bother me. Being able to sleep beyond 6 a.m. was vacation enough for me! And then around the 2nd day we were there….the sun came out!

Hey there Carnival!

View from my hotel room.

Outside of Atlantis…

….and then inside. The designs are breathtaking.

Fishes!

The sisters posing…

Every single time I travel, I ALWAYS have a hard time taking pictures of everything. I am too busy “taking in” the sites to even think about snapping shots. *sigh* More of a reason to return!

Off to the streets!

Thank you, Courtney for being natural in this photo..

Here goes my Dad…

“Hey Brit, look….there’s a MAC.”

Funny.

But I didn’t buy anything. Wait….now that I think about it, I didn’t get any souvenirs from the Bahamas. Mannnn….

Senor Frogs!

This photo is currently the background on my laptop. Loves it! And I loved the conch fritters there. I will say the BEST conch fritters eeeever are at The Conch Shake in Provos, Turks. Amazing!

Look! It’s ClumpsTV. Or Clumpsivision. LOL! Yes, I spent $14 to check good ole’ Clumps and to tweet. It was hard being Blackberry-less for almost a week.

More random shots!

What to wear on Paradise Island? A color liner, mascara and a glittery Dazzleglass. That’s all! LOL @ what I was listening to.

Sister shots….

opps, forgot to “smile with my eyes”. Next time, next time.

These chicks are clearly loving their desserts. LOL!

Of course the nails STILL got polished everyday. I’m rockin‘ Diamond Cosmetics’ Hot Summer Pink!

….and then back to Miami. We stayed at the beautiful Eden Roc Hotel in Miami Beach. A terrible storm hit and what happens? Lights go off in the hotel. And they don’t come back on. For hours. And hours. We ended up being forced to leave.

The horror.

The commotion….

But what’s any family vacay without some random “something” happening?

Oh! I also swam with dolphins which was an amazing experience that everyone must do once in their life.

Another great trip!

Next?

Back to NYC and definitely Vegas.

Doing any summer traveling? Take me with you!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Because the sun doesn’t discriminate…

See this?

This is brown skin. It is melanin-enriched. Many of us brown girls think that just because our skin is darker that it creates some kind of barrier against the sun. And in a sense, it does. So I guess us brown girls don’t even need to wear sunscreen.

“Girl, please.”

The sun does not discriminate. Brown girls have to protect their skin just as much as the lighter girls. And for some reason, most of us did not grow up thinking this. We couldn’t be more wrong. Everyone of ALL shades needs to protect their skin. From the fair ladies to the ebony mamas….protecting the skin is a MUST.

Each summer I experiment with different sunscreens for the face.

Meet the trio!

First up….

Olay Complete All Day moisture lotion SPF 15
($7.29-drugstores nationwide)

Olay Complete is no stranger to Clumps of Mascara. I’ve raved about this moisturizer before. And I won’t stop. My skin absolutely adores Olay Complete. For reasons unknown my skin has been acne-prone beyond belief within the past year or so. This moisturizer does not irritate my skin, clog my pores or leave me with that white film that most lotions with SPF have. Aaaand, it’s okay to wear every single day–which I do! When rubbed in, it looks like this…

Perfecto! This baby will always be a staple in my skin care routine.

Next uuuup

Rx for Brown Skin Protect and Defend
moisturizing sunscreen

($20-click here for more info/purchase)

I am quite the Rx for Brown Skin fan. Products made specifically for skin like mine is right up my alley! When my skin goes through its dry spells, I use this! It is thicker than Olay Complete so I’m not sure how well it would work for oily skin. The good news is, it absorbs well so you aren’t left with a sticky or greasy feeling. I wish it didn’t smell SO sunscreen-y. It is a little overpowering for everyday use but this is something I’m willing to get over to protect my skin. It goes on pretty thick….

But after a good rubbing in session…

…..I am good to go! That white residue from sunscreen drives me up a wall! Don’t have that problem here.

And lastly…

Clinique Sun SPF 50 Face Cream
($17.50-Clinique.com–click here for deets)

Oh yes….when I’m going to be taking in a LOT of sun, I have to bring out the yellow tube with higher SPF. Clinique’s Sun Protection products are a must have if you are a Clinique skincare fan. Which, of course, I am…. This smells extremely sunscreen-y but it’s a smell that doesn’t bother me anymore–simply because I know I HAVE to wear it. Now….this baby is going to take a ton of rubbing in to get rid of the white residue.

And even after it’s gone, it leaves me a little greasy.

But honestly? It doesn’t bother me because it stays put, doesn’t run in my eyes when I swim and my skin doesn’t have any bad reactions to it. So heyyyy!! No complaining from me.

Brown girls….where ya’ll at? Please oh please tell me you are rocking sunscreen EVERYDAY. And if you’re not….do you feel the burn from my cyber side-eye?

I want to hear from everyone rocking sunscreen…what’s your favorite?

Brown Skin Protector,

ETA: ….but is your sunscreen SAFE for you? Thanks to reader Rachel for sharing this link. It investigates sunscreens and tells you what’s safe….and what’s not. I will be making some changes!

Amor de Lacquer: What All Lacquered up Says

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Here’s another tip from one of my favorite nail polish bloggers.

Michelle from All Lacquered Up

Healthy cuticles are essential to nail growth & strength. Run, don’t walk, to buy a tube of CND Cuticle Eraser. The AHAs help remove excess skin while apricot oil & aloe moisturize the nail plate and surrounding tissue. it’s a cream so there’s no oily residue. use 2x/day.

Polish Pretty,

Amor de Lacquer: BB Couture for Nails polishes

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Time to introduce you to different brand of nail polish! One of the joys of being a blogger is discovering companies that I would have never known about had I not been a blogger. Seriously….the average consumer knows only what is in stores or what is talked about. BB Couture for Nails may not be familiar to all nail polish fans YET….but honey, they should be. This is one brand of polishes that has my heart. And my money!

BB Couture for Nails (like most if not ALL of the nail polishes I wear) do not contain toluene, formaldehyde and DBP free. They are also 4-in-1 polishes.

“Uh? What?..please explain, B”

Okay, lemme break it down. While the average polish would usually need a base and top coat, BB Couture for Nails polishes have the base coat, top coat, nail color AND nail strengthener in one. Ain’t that fly?

I played around with a few of the colors…

Tangerine Scream

I reallllly love orange polishes. But I ohmigoodness wow-oh-wow REALLY love orange cream polishes. How stunning is that? It’s perfect. It’s loud. It’s for summer and it looks like a tangerine and 40 watt bulb had a baby. And named her Tangerine Scream.

*crickets*

You know what I mean….hehehe.

Poison Ivy

This is hands down the BEST green that I own. No, I’m serious….and I own some good greens. See?

Poison Ivy is just…perfection. It is pleasing to the eye and compliments my nails something serious. If the Wicked Witch of the West wore nail polish….she would probably rock this.

Dragon’s Breath

You have to enlarge this picture to see the dimensions of this color. Without the red/purple/blue sparkles it would be a boring berry with no personality. BUT, the sparkles make it pop and gives it a serious attitude. The only thing that I don’t like about this polish is that it is pretty tough to remove. But what do you expect from glitters?

Sea of Cortez

This color is in my Top 5 favorite blues stash. How beautiful is it? It reminds me of the waters of Oahu, Hawaii. The silver flecks are just….I mean, wow. Look at them! I have never seen a bue like this before. It is truly one of a kind!

Application of BB Couture for Nails polishes are good. I find that they are a little on the thick side. I had to add some thinner to most. Each are two coats except Dragon’s Breath which was a little streaky. I can not WAIT to order some more BB Couture polishes. They have so many! And for all polish people. For the conservative work go-er (that’s me) and the rockstar on the weekends (that’s me too!). I do wish that they were a little cheaper. $9.95 a polish is a little rich for me. Also, I wish their website was a little more detailed with HOW the polishes look. Blocks of color? Not so much!

Still a brand worth checking out. Click here to visit the site!

Have you tried any polishes from BB Couture for Nails?

Your fellow nail polish junkie,

ETA: BB Couture for Nails are also available at OverallBeauty.com. Some are even discounted. Click here to visit. Thanks Lucy!

Product Review: Olay Microdermabrasion & Peel in one system

I’m convinced that I will be the one to find that perfect skincare item. I’m determined to have the smoothest pimple free skin. Right now I’m at what I call a transition age. I’m too old for acne and too young for wrinkles but, guess what? I get a pimple every few months and I swear I see laugh lines around my mouth. I decided that I wanted to try microdermabrasion but in no way can I afford the spa right now!!

Imagine my surprise when I found this at Walmart! So how did it stand up? Check out the review……

Price: 4 out of 5 (Two products) I got it for $24.99 at Wal-mart
Packaging: 5 out of 5 (Very convenient sizes)
Overall: 3 out of 5

What it claims: The power of two treatments to regenerate your skin’s appearance – at home.
The system has two steps that actively work together to give you a combination of a microdermabrasion and mini-peel treatment, but it’s gentle enough to use up to two times a week for continuous results.

The truth: It took some getting used. Since Ive never had something like this done before I didn’t know what to expect. But I liked it after about 6 treatments (1 month) and I saw results.

It comes in its own little kit!

These are the bottles:

Microdermabrasion treatment with derma-crystals

You cant really see the crystals in this picture

Peel activator serum with Latic acid (I cringe at the word acid)

It’s really clear and feels like a face serum

When you do Step 1 (apply crystals to wet face and massage) + Step 2 (apply serum on top of crystals) you end up with this warm yet cool foamy lather

The directions say to use this twice a week so I picked Sundays and Wednesdays. I didn’t go to the spa but I felt like I was getting a luxurious treatment inside my bathroom. Which is always a good thing!

So have you ever had this treatment done? Did you like it?

If you want to try this kit check out Walmart or CVS. You can also visit the Olay website here

If you have any questions please email me (I love getting clumps mail): tamarforclumps@gmail.com

Keep it clumping,
Tamar
