Brown & Blushin': Illamasqua blush in Thrust

Well, I couldn’t just stare at Illamasqua without purchasing, could I? Granted I have no problem window shopping (story of my life, HA!) but I owe it to Clumps readers to test drive the car you may be thinking of purchasing, right? That’s what I’m here for!

Sooo, I thought long and hard about the Illa product I first wanted to review.

Blush was one of the winners, baby! Now if this doesn’t convince brown girls that we CAN wear blush, then I’m going to have to go on a traveling tour called “Listen brown girls, we can wear blush”.

Thrust is the business!

Prettyful, uh? Illamasqua describes this as “magenta” and it retails for $23. You can find out more about it here.

So I applied a generous amount on the cheeks….

And wowsers! I like it!

Blush does a body good and I’ll be visiting my Sephora again to check out some more of Illamasqua’s blushes…or powder blushers they call them.

Loves ’em!

Have you tried any of Illa’s blushes yet?

You don’t wear blush don’t you? Hmmm…..

Stila Barbie Smudge Pots

Y’all know I’m a Stila girl. It’s no surprise really. I enjoy many of their products and have hailed the Lip glaze as one of my favorite glosses on the market. Which says a lot considering there are A LOT of glosses on the market.

And my crazy self feels as if I need to review them all. HA!

But I digress.

I had my eyes on these smudge pots since I first got the press release about them. The colors just called my name. I don’t have many gel liners despite my affinity for them. I love Lancome‘s and MAC’s Fluidlines have always been a staple for me. L’Oreal HIP’s are a bit dry and Clinique’s are too smudge-y.

I find that Stila’s smudge pots work great not only as bases but as liners are well. And look how beautiful the Barbies collection ones are!

Stila’s smudge pots are hot stuff. I tweeted a photo of them when I was in Miami.

Little Black Dress (it has pink sparkles in it!)
Cobalt Clutch
Purple Pumps

Purple Pumps is the greatest thing since….I don’t know, it’s just great! I’ve been wearing it almost every day I’ve had it. I have never seen such a beautiful purple cream liner.

I even wore it at Blogalicious ’09 this past weekend.

I cut out my homie Luvvie of that photo but
I’ll re-post it with her fabulous self in it. :)

I’m in love the smudge pots. I’ll be back showing you how fabulous Cobalt Clutch looks. In the meantime, check them out here. You can snag them from Sephora, or for $20/each.

A fan of Stila smudge pots? Have these? Want these?

50 million pound challenge: Eat This, Not THAT!

Time to check in, sisters! So far the Mascara Mamas team has 9 members! I’m so excited. Thanks for joining. You too can join and be a part.

When it comes to managing weight, I find that it is best if I am realistic. I tailor dietary ideas to fit my lifestyle. Hence why these books are my best friends.

Yes, I have ALL three of them and I love them. Especially when traveling. When I can’t make a green smoothie 0r bake kale chips, I am flipping through one of these books to see what I can eat on the go that won’t kill me. Loves it! I’ll do a formal review on these babies in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, check out these books. I find that they are a great little addition to a weight loss plan.

Anyone read these?

See you at next week’s check-in!

The Artist Summit Miami-Inglot Cosmetics=WHOA!

Time for some photo footage from The Artist Summit Miami!

When I saw the list of vendors, I was most excited to see Inglot Cosmetics. As many of you know, I fell in love with this brand a few months back in New York City. Check out that post here. As fate would have it, the brand is still ONLY available in New York as of right now. It has Canadian and Polish locations but as far as the U.S., a freestanding store only resides in NYC. I know, completely unfair.

So as you can imagine I RAN to them when I saw their spacious layout. Intern Bri did a fabulous job at capturing how I really feel about Inglot.

Seriously y’all…this brand is ridiculous. Ridiculous as in good, I mean. The colors, the packaging, the innovative styles, I just…I love it. Check it out!

I was modest and only hauled two interesting look test tube lippies.

The more I fall for Inglot, the more they upset me. Why can’t we order them online already? Man oh man! And I really do hate to tease y’all but hopefully sooner rather than later, Inglot will open their doors and allow everyone to play with and purchase their products.

I’m wishin’ on a star….

Stay tuned for more installments of The Artist Summit Miami!

Mascara Monday: Benefit BadGal Lash mascara

It’s been a long time coming but I’m back with a mascara review! I know, I know…don’t hate me. Blogger duties have called and I’ve been traveling for the past three weekends. And I’ll be traveling again this weekend so hang in there with me, fam!

Here’s a mascara review that has been highly requested for almost a year now. And I am JUST now getting around to it. Is it bad as in good or bad as in bad?

Check the review!

Benefit Bad Gal mascara

Price: 2 out of 5 (around $19.00 )

Packaging (Brush Wand): 2 out of 5
Overall: 3 out of 5

What it claims: “The BADgal line of mascaras from Benefit are full of “BAD-itude!” The rich, sexy formula and oversized brush build thick, beautiful and bodacious lashes.”

The truth:
That wand is a little too massive for my liking.

What I loved about it: Umm, I don’t think there was anything that I REALLY loved about it.

What I didn’t like: The wand. Seriously too big.

Overall: I think the world loves this mascara. I say this because I have gotten so many requests to review it. But then a lot of you have been skeptical. So leave it to your head Mascara Reviewer to bring you the nitty gritty.

Well, I don’t have THAT much to say about this baby here. It’s just okay. While I’ve heard a lot of people say that looooove it, I find it to be pretty average as far as mascaras go. The wand is HUGE!

And no me gusta. I find that wands this large make for difficult control. And for my ladies with shorter lashes and lids…this ain’t the one for y’all. The bristles are a little tight together and don’t make for much room to flow through the lashes.

As far as the mascara’s overall performance. It’s okay. But it’s not spectacular. I find that it does what it needs to do but does not go beyond the average mascara. Like ALL of my reviews, this is completely relative but I don’t….BadGal just didn’t surprise me. Plus I think it is far too expensive for it to not have any cool tricks.

Lashes without mascara
(did NOT curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Not bad…but I’ve seen better.

Would I recommend it?: Not so much. I know of other mascaras that do more for half the price.

A fan of this baby? Does it work wonders for you?

Tell me!

A crazed mascara reviewer,

FOTD Friday: BriAna goes glam

Hi darlings! And Happy Friday to all. This FOTD Friday features my beautiful and amazing 16-year old cousin, BriAna. She was the official Artist Summit Miami intern. She did took notes, snapped shots, hob-nobbed with make-up artists and even provided snacks throughout seminars. My baby cousin (who I like to think I helped raise, lol) is not your average teen. She’s been class president, held jobs, sings, acts and is also captain of her volleyball team. My girl is on fire. Her personality radiates so much that she even attracted the likes of YouTube guru Koren from EnKore Makeup.

That’s right, my homie Koren wanted to do BriAna’s make-up for Naked Cosmetics. She was incredibly excited. And the FOTD came out amazing!

The results!

My little sweetums was in LOVE with this look. She actually pouted when it was time to remove it. She doesn’t wear make-up on a regular so this was a ton of fun for her. Oh, to be 16 again!

She’s such a doll, isn’t she? Someone cue Fergie’s “Glamorous”.

Rock on, Bri!!

Off to Atlanta I go for the Blogalicious Conference. Of course I’ll be live tweeting along the way.

Have an awesome weekend!

Amor de Lacquer: Polish Pal=love!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to

It’s story time, kids! Grab your favorite blanket and gather around for another tale from

“The top on this polish is too hard to open and
I think my fingers are about to pop off”

Once upon a time in a hot-behind state where curls dropped from humidity, there lived a polish lovin’ lady named B. B loved her polishes and was known to polish her nails daily. Every once in a while, though, she ran into a difficult to open polish.

These polishes brought her sadness, sore fingers and jacked up teeth (Opening polishes with teeth=no bueno).

And then one day a pal came her way.

A polish pal that is!

B loved how comfortably it fit in her hands.

And she loved how it was able to open nail polish bottles of all shapes and sizes.

B was happy and so were her hands. No more struggling with trying to open polishes. She knew this little Polish Pal would benefit not only those suffering from arthritis, but also the little girls who wanted to polish their nails but had troubles opening the bottles.

All was well with the world.

Order The Polish Pal from It’s only $8.95….a must have for the avid nail polish-er.
