MACCosmetics….25% off sale!

Yep yep….better jump on it, fam.

MAC Cosmetics is having a Friends and Family sale and uhhh….if you have been eyein‘ some of the latest collections and STILL haven’t made the jump, now is a good time. But I’m not the right person to ask about “must haves” because I haven’t indulged in MAC for awhile.

Beauty blasphemy I know but there are so many other brands out there. MAC so doesn’t have my attention the way they used to. OH WELL!

Deets about the sale:
-For MACCosmetics.com. Don’t try and use the code in the store. They’ll give you the side-eye. HA!
-June 16th-June 18th.
-SUMO–this is the promo code you will use at checkout

Whatcha gettin’? Tell me!

Iman Cosmetics Foundations, Take 1

Your eyes do not deceive you.

You read the title correctly.

I typed “foundations”. Yes, I know—the woman who swoooore she would never be a “foundation person” is slowly playing around with them more and more. I have yet to wear them on a daily (ha..or weekly) basis but I’m gettin’ there. Trying to find the right color is the biggest pain ever.

But a brown girl friendly line like Iman Cosmetics makes it A LOT easier.

I played around with the Stick Foundation and Second to None Cover Cream.

*slams on brakes*

But wait….I can’t even give a fair review because my color is off! Does mis eyes deceive me, fam? What do you think?

Okay…here is the Stick Foundation in Earth 1

This is the first Stick Foundation that I have ever purchased. Such a proud moment in this 24 year old’s life. Now I was either rocking my shades while making this purchase or was lost and insecure (I love The Fray, hehe) because I think this color is way off!

Shucks.

Surely the lovely Second to None Cover Cream in Earth Deep would help a sista out.

This concealer is so creamy . It practically blended on my skin like a moisturizer. This is great for me and my “acts a fool when a product is too heavy” skin.

But uh…

This looks to be too red! Freakin’ A, mannnn. What is a girl to do?

Stay tuned for Round 2 of Iman Cosmetics Foundations. Since checking out the website I have now found my correct shade (Earth 3) and will shop accordingly.

Any Iman Cosmetics foundation wearers out there?

Beauty….and the Male: African Heritage Products for Men review

Clumpers,

By popular demand, I will be doing some product reviews of items that I have sampled. As a former teacher, I will be handing out grades and giving you the reason for the grade. Without further ado, let’s get it started HA…let’s get it started in here….

Company: Ikhala
Products: Face and Body products designed for men of African heritage
Price: $12-$18 per tube
How to get it: http://www.africanmale.menessentials.com/

Body Wash: F
Not a great smell, didn’t make me even feel clean. Definitely not for anyone who wants that all over feeling of clean. I felt like I needed to keep showering! As you can see from the photo, I didn’t even use the whole tube…can I GIVE this stuff away?

Face Wash: C
Nothing special about this; bottle leaked in my shower; not something that I would use daily. Very watery which means more ends up on your shower floor than on your face.

Shave Cream: D
Nothing special here either; kinda messy and watery and dries out quickly if you let it sit for 5 seconds. Seemed to work just fine with my razor but didn’t live up to the hype. I still prefer a heavy cream when shaving my head. Shaving your face for Black men is a whole column in itself. Coming soon!

Moisturizing Cream: B
Now this is what I am talking about! I was impressed with the lightness of this cream. It was not oily and left my skin still feeling clean but also moisturized my face. I actually put down my normal cream and began using this regularly.

Face Scrub: B+
Finally! They hit it on the head with this scrub for your face. Really felt like it was exfoliating my skin but also moisturizing it. Even felt great on my head after shaving it. This product along with the moisturizing cream are the two things that I ran out of. I would actually purchase these products again.

Summary: C-
Love the concept of a product for men of African Heritage. I wanted to like this product! I really did! Men of African heritage certainly have special challenges with razor bumps and dry skin and other issues. This product could have been improved with two things–a better marketing plan and Also, this might have been more attractive in better containers that don’t leak! All in all, love the concept but the Ikahla is not the answer to what you’ve been waiting for! I’ll let you know when I’m ready to drop “PRODUCT BY PRATT”!!

KP’s says, “BOOKMARK IT”!

Check out this site for a LOT of great information on products and what works. I found the community forum particularly great because you get responses from real guys, just like you and me, discussing male grooming. BOOKMARK IT!!

Until next time,
KP

Mascara Monday: Maybelline Pulse Perfection vibrating mascara

It seems like it has been quite a while since I have done a mascara review. I’m glad that good ole’ Maybelline Pulse Perfection is breakin’ a sista’s hiatus. This is another one of those “highly requested for review mascaras”.

This is the FIRST drugstores vibrating mascara. Well, SpinLash did come out a year or so ago, but this is the first we’ve seen from a big name cosmetic company.

Is it amazing?
Is it everything you thought it would be?

Take a look…..

Maybelline Pulse Perfection
vibrating mascara

Price: 3 out of 5 ($14.99—pretty pricey for a general drugstore mascara purchase, but after all….it does vibrate. )
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 4.5 out of 5

What it claims: I can show you better than I can tell you! Here is the packaging’s claim:

The truth:
Well, it’s not your average mascara! That’s for sure….

What I loved about it: The Define-A-Lash wand. The mascara’s name in its entirety is “Maybelline Pulse Perfection BY Define-A-Lash. So that’s what you can expect as far as the wand’s look goes. Despite not being an enormous fan of Define-A-Lash (check out my review here) I have always loved its wand. It is perfect for ladies with smaller lids/lashes and gets into those small corners beautifully.

I also like the packaging’s other details. Aside from showing you what the wand looks like before you buy it, it also tells you how to use it!

What I didn’t like: I found that the vibrating was a little too much….at least for me. I don’t have “sensitive eyes” but the vibrating even had my eyes welling up a bit. I also found that it tends to get a little clump-alicious around the 2nd coat. Three coats is definitely a no-no with this mascara as you will certainly be entering Clumps City

Overall: Despite the two or so downfalls I am CRAZY impressed with this mascara. Maybelline has always managed to impress me as far as mascaras go and Pulse Perfecting definitely takes the cake as my favorite Maybelline mascara.

Wait…no, maybe not. I am still married to Lash Stilleto but don’t tell Mr. Pulse that. HA!

Seriously, if you are looking for length, Pulse will give it to ya! Volume? Mmm, it could definitely be better in that department, but it’s not bad. I guarantee that you will be too busy being impressed at the length to even care about volume. I didn’t experience flakiness throughout the day.

I really do wish that I didn’t experience clumps around the 3rd coat—but I did. I wanted to get as much length as possible but Mr. Pulse wasn’t havin’ that. So be careful.

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

Would I recommend it?: Absolutely! Aside from it being fun to use it really does give you insane results.

The video reaaallly shows the what the vibrating wand does.

Has anyone tried this mascara yet?
Interested? Not so much? Whatcha think?

A crazed mascara reviewer,
