Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips – Blinged Out!

I love brands like Vaseline. They are both predictable and unpredictable and I LOVE that. I mean yeah…they’ve been making the same product for many many years. And the product hasn’t really changed! You can get regular ole’ Vaseline practically anywhere. While they stay consistent with that, on the other hand, they’re gettin’ all fancy with releasing spray lotions and colorful Vaseline for lips and all. I mean, dang. You are just too fly for your own good, Vaseline.

On a gloomy very rough day, I received this glorious jar in the mail.

Vaseline Lips

Can you even deeeeeal???? I can’t. I just can’t. Now we’ve seen the bejeweled Vaseline Lip Therapy jars before but how much prettier is she all decked out in her rosy tint? I’m in love. I had to hide it from my Mom and sister because they were itchin’ to snag my jar during Thanksgiving.

I use the regular Vaseline at night because it traps the moisture in my lips and keeps them moisturized at night but wow, I didn’t see a tinted Vaseline a comin’.

Vaseline Rosy Lips Therapy

Bejeweled Vaseline Lip Therapy

It makes sense though! Now to be quite honest, I didn’t see much of a rosy tint in my lips when I applied this.

Vaseline on Lips

I reckon this would do better with a lip liner. The Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips is also scented! It has a rose/vanilla/berry scent and I don’t know….I found it to be really heavy on the floral side and I’m perfectly okay with rockin’ scent-free Vaseline.

Rosy Lips swatch

Still. You can’t tell me that this baby isn’t gorgeous. The un-bejeweled Vaseline Rose Lips is at drugstores nationwide for only $1.99.

Vaseline Lip Therapy

Her very luxurious older sister is $45 at New Beauty at Fred Segal, Santa Monica or you can call 310-394-8509. But only until Christmas Day 2013 because after that, this limited edition shiny mama of a Vaseline jar will disappear.

Meanwhile I’ll be putting mine behind a glass window. Yeeeeep.

Zoya Satins nail polish collection

I’m glad I swatched this collection before  all of my nails went and broke on me. Figures. When I make very little effort to take care of my nails, they do just fine. But the second I want polish them on a regular, they all break on me. Totally a first world problem, I know, but it sucks. This collection, however…doesn’t suck and I was so grateful to get a press sample of it.

Zoya Satins Collection

Very appropriate shades for a winter collection, right?

Zoya Claudine

Claudine is a striking dark meteorite gray metallic. Applying this baby was a dream and I achieved full opacity with only one coat. And it’s such a stunning color. I’ve seen gray metallics before but never one that has such a beautiful and shimmery finish.

Zoya Channing

Channing is a coppery red metallic and something tells me that one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Channing in the City, would love this shade. When I think of Thanksgiving and fall, a shade like this comes to mind. Very appropriate for the season!

Zoya Mason

Mason is an exciting red violet or “Fandango Pink” metallic. Don’t ask me what Fandango Pink is. I’m far too lazy to Google it, but honey, what a beautiful shade! I don’t get too excited over pinks but this is the kind of pink that I can roll with.

Zoya Maria-Luisa

Maria-Luisa is a pretty gold cellophane accent topper. Of course, this shade is intended to be layered over another nail polish color. I applied it over Mason and it’s just so pretty!

Zoya Giovanna

Giovanna totally photographed somewhat off (my camera sucks at really capturing teal-ish shades) but this emerald green metallic is deep, rich and awesome. It also stains the nails so be sure to use a base with this one.

Zoya Neve

Neve is a sapphire blue metallic and at one glance it looks blue and at another, it looks like a sparkling purple. Such a pretty shade. My mother, being the purple lover that she is, would looooove this one.

Another winner from Zoya. I don’t have any complaints. Each nail polish applied beautifully and I’m loving the unexpected shades. You can snag this nail polish collection from Zoya.com for $48 for the entire collection or $8 for each polish. Check out my review of the Cashmere collection, the other collection that launched with the Satins collection.

That M.Steves Exfoliator Makes My Skin Happy. Very Happy.

My skin has been a wreck lately. And I really have no one to blame but myself. I ditched dairy for almost a year but Thanksgiving did me in and I went on a dairy-overload. Same with gluten. Oh girl, trust me…I wish I could eat dairy and gluten with no problems, but the fact is, I can’t. My body just does better with keeping both out of my diet. I’m not sure if dairy is playing a huge part in my skin’s craziness, but all I know is, after going to town on my husband’s ah-maziiiiing macaroni and cheese, my skin has morphed into something that my 15-year old sister can relate to. It’s a mess.

And I love y’all too much to take pictures of it but I figured now was as good time as any to give to try out M.Steve’s Reviving Exfoilator .

M.Steves Reviving Exfoliator

I received a sample of this a while back and it has been sitting on my beauty bookshelf for quite some time. While I usually like to wait 4-6 weeks before I review something, I couldn’t wait to share this with y’all. This stuff is awesome. I mean, check out the stats…

-No synthetic dyes or fragrances
-Vegan
-No parabens
-No petrochemicals
-No phthalates

And then there’s the list of the things that it DOES include:

-Rose Hip Seed Oil
-Microdermabrasion crystals
-Walnut shell powder
-Glycolic acid
-Dead sea mud
-Fruit enzymes

M.Steves

The exfoliator is fantastic. It feels like something out of a spa. This 2-in-1 scrub not only works as a microdermabrasion treatment that really massages those pores, but it also acts as an alpha hydroxy acid peel. I’ve used it both ways and found that it completely transforms either way that it’s used.

As a microdermabrasion treatment: Easy does it when using this exfoliator on the skin. The microscopic crystals do so well at gently scrubbing the skin. It’s easy to scrub too vigorously so I found myself repeatedly saying “Go slowly, go slowly…” After rinsing, my skin felt reinvigorated and ridiculously soft.

Scrub in pot

As an alpha hydroxy acid peel: After applying all over, I left the exfoliator on the skin for 7-10 minutes and rinsed with warm water. I didn’t notice much of a difference until I woke up the next day. My skin seemed brighter, tighter and smoother.

Scrub on hand

I’m a fan, M.Steves. I’m a fan. Is this exfoliator worth the $48 price tag? I would say so. A microdermabrasion treatment at a spa could easily cost close to $100 per treatment. Having the option to do this at home and get the same results is just…amazing! And what do I use to follow up this exfoliator? That lovely bottle of Ultra-Nourishing Boost.  LOVE!

Pantene’s Truly Natural Custard and Serum

This sponsored post is brought to you by the ever so awesome POPSUGAR. A while back I had the opportunity to review the shampoo and condish from the Pantene Truly Natural hair line. And for the most part, I liked everything. To be honest, it’s so much easier to like hair products when my hair is only 2-3 inches long. I’m lettin’ the hurr grow out a bit longer so I’m sure my opinions will become a lot more rigid, but for now I haven’t really run into a hair care product that I really hate.

DSC_1853

Which is why I have nothing but good things to say about any of these products. But I’d really like to focus on the Defining Curls Styling Custard and the Shine Serum + Argan Oil. But first things first…

I ain’t got no curls. There’s no shame in my game but my hair really only has a defined pattern when it is cut close to my scalp. Since I’ve got a few inches on the wig, my curls are more like…fuzz. This is a true story, girls. I always find that custards don’t work well on my hair when it’s longer.

The Defining Curls Styling Custard promises to define curls (obvs) and add shine. I’ve never gotten any added shine from jelly-type products but I stayed optimistic with this Custard. The key to really get this stuff to work is to make sure to use it on wet hair. And by wet, I mean saturated. I used a dollop of the custard on my freshly washed hair and found it to really work well with my curls/fuzz. My hair didn’t feel crispy and hard hours later and I didn’t have any flakiness going on. Because nothing sucks more than flaking styling products.

And then there’s the Shine Serum with Argan Oil

DSC_1864

My hair is dry as the Sahara so I love any and everything that has to do with an oil. Especially argan oil! I loved how lightweight this felt. Far too often serums can be insanely greasy but this wasn’t too bad. I found it worked best when I’d rub a bit all over the dome and then cover with a head scarf at night. And whoever thought to put it in a spray bottle is a genius. Love that idea!

So yes, I’m a big of a hair snob but I do have to appreciate Pantene’s attempt at catering to the natural haired girls of the world. I am hard to please but I think the line will work well for the average natural haired girl who is looking for products to cater to her kinks and curls. Fragrance-wise, I have a have a hard time wearing hair products with loud scents (and these scents aren’t exactly soft) but hey, I feel that way about alllll hair and skincare products. Overall, though these budget-friendly hair care products will likely work well for many of my girls with natural hair.

Beauty in Mommyhood: Elle is 9 months old

Elle is 9 months old!

Dear Elle,

I think this month you have made the most obvious changes. I mean, WOW! You are sprouting into a toddler right before our very eyes. I used to be this Mom that was so concerned about the things that you weren’t doing. You weren’t crawling. You weren’t interested in food. You didn’t have any teeth. You weren’t interested in walking. The books said you should have weighed “this much” by “this time”. My friends’ babies were doing it. But you weren’t.

But I’ve learned to trust you. And to trust DaDa and myself. In a sense, I’m lucky. You get to be my baby longer. I get to enjoy giving you a bottle. I get to hold you in my arms and keep you safer for longer. I can still give you baths in the sink! But this month, oh this month, you are changing. And everything that I was so concerned about…you’re doing.

Crawling baby

Wanna know your biggest milestone? You’re communicating with us! You wave when someone says “Hi”. You even say “Hi!” You light up when Daddy walks in a room. When you’re in your high chair and you can’t see me you call for me. You say “Mu Mu” or “Muh”. When you’re done with your bottle, you turn your head away. When you want to get picked up, you reach up. Sometimes you’ll sign for milk if you’re in the mood. You say Bye Bye when Gam waves to you over FaceTime. You are doing such an amazing job at letting us know what you want. Which is great! You’ve always been such an easy baby to read but it’s exciting knowing that crying isn’t your only way of letting us know what you want.

Baby Steps

I’ve read that some babies skip crawling and go straight to walking. I think that’s you. You know how to crawl but you prefer to scoot. And you prefer pulling yourself up over scooting. You really want to walk. You get so excited when you’re on your feet. You’ve mastered standing and balancing yourself with only one hand. You go from a crawling position to a sitting position within a second. You’re so good at it!

Happy baby

You’re also and…can Mama be honest? Sometimes you can be a bit of a handful. Some days you just don’t want to be bothered with anything. The little things set you off. Changing your diaper. Combing your hair. Wiping your nose. Sitting in your car seat. For the first time in your whole life, you’ve had moments where you are just inconsolable. Which breaks my heart but I know you’re going through some growing pains.

In the past few weeks I have made the decision to stop sharing so many of your pictures online. In fact, these monthly posts will be the only place where I will share your pictures. No more cute pics of you all over Facebook and Instagram. I’ve become selfish. You are MY baby. I don’t want so many strangers knowing how cute you are when you eat. I don’t want everyone to see the layout of your new nursery. You deserve a level of privacy. You deserve a close-knit circle of friends and family members who have your best interest in mind. I don’t want to let so many in. Yes, you’re cute and adorable but the world doesn’t need to see that.

DSC_1919-001

The post would be as longer as your other posts, but let’s be honest…mama began drafting it too late and now I’ve completely forgotten about the milestones that happened this month. And now I’m confused with what you did at 9 months and what you started doing at 10 months. Silly mama.

The good news is that we have a ton of pictures and videos to show so hey, I’m not mad….

Love you,

Mama

Just In Time For The Holidays…Free Store Pickup!

Kmart Free Store Pickup

This sponsored post is brought to you by Mami Innovative Media and this is it, y’all. This is my first year doing some serious holiday shopping. Yes, I know my wee babe is not even a year old yet but this this year will determine how well I do next year and the year after. I’ve got a game plan, I’ve saved my pennies and I’m ready to treat my girl with toys that she doesn’t need. Yes, I’ve fallen victim to commercialism. So sue me! You don’t know joy until you see my girl’s eyes light up when she gets fascinated by a toy.

FREESTOREPICKUP-Sears

So while I don’t plan on going in debt getting her some treats, I do intend on making this year go as smoothly as possible. Which is why I plan on using free store pickup. Both Sears and Kmart offer this and it just blows my mind. You mean, all I have to do is buy online and just go to the store and pick it up? No fighting Grannies over the last block set? No standing in crazy long lines? This is the life, y’all. This is how shopping is meant to be and I’m ecstatic over it!

And now I can spend more time decorating the halls with boughs of holly.

Please don’t tell me that I’m the only one excited about this… I mean, you do plan on gettin’ some free store pickup in your life, don’t you?

Makeup Wars: All I Want This Holiday Season Is…well, here’s a list!

Makeup Wars Holiday Wishlist

ZOMG! The holidays are a comin’ and while I am so not ready for them (I’m far too stressed these days to really enjoy ‘em!), they’re comin’ anyway. I’m not gonna lie – I kinda miss the days of being able to give my parents a list of things that I wanted and actually getting those gifts. Welp. Those days are over. Ha! The married with kid life means if I want something, I need to save up and get it myself!

But ain’t nothin’ wrong with wishin’. And for this Makeup Wars post my girls and I are sharing our holiday wishlists.

Vitamix

I want a Vitamix blender sooooo badly. And I’ll never buy it myself because as much as I want it, I could think of so many other things I could buy with that money. But man – the things I would make if a had a Vitamix. The soups I brew, the smoothies I would…smoothe. I could do it all.

Naomi Afro Manikin

Look. I have a daughter. And I’m a Black girl. And I DON’T know how to cornrow. This does not bode well as taking care of naturally thick hair requires skill. With this manikin I could practice braiding and cornrowing so that by the time my girl gets too old for afro puffs, I’ll be able to put some adorable rows in her hurr (picture source).

Screen Shot 2013-11-20 at 7.50.23 PM

Clarisonic Aria

Yeeeep. The Aria has been out for over a year and I still want it. And  there’s an Aria with a Josie Maran Set. They combined 2 of my favorite loves. *squeals* I’d also take Clarisonic’s Pedi Foot Transformation Set. Or both. Whatever.

Formula X for Sephora nail polishes

I want them all. I don’t need EVERY shade. But I at least need 10. Or 20. I’ve heard so many great things about this brand. Word on the beauty blogger street is that Formula X for Sephora nail polishes give you complete coverage with only one coat. Say whaaaat?

Reusable Rainbow Snack Bags

I’m a grazer and eat a lot of snacks throughout the day. I have a few reusable snack bags but I want more. Plus I love supporting work from home mamas!

Jewelry Holder

Also on Etsy is this gorgeous jewelry holder that I’ve been meaning to buy myself. It holds everything in ONE place. This organizer would make getting ready in the morning so much easier.

Wool Dryer balls

Y’all know I’m a hippie so this really shouldn’t even come as a surprise. I already use some wool dryer balls but I hear that having even more is better. These things are great! They really do fluff up towels and cloth diaper inserts aaaaand you don’t have to run the dryer as long. I haven’t used dryer sheets in years so the wool dryer balls are a great alternative.

Boscia Mask Medley

I’ve reviewed Boscia’s masks before but I need to re-up STAT. I had no idea that they had all 3 of their masks in one nice little set. So sweet of them to think of me like that.

Mason Jars

Doesn’t matter the size. Or the color. I want more! I use my mason jars for everything but I’m noticing that I’m running out. So…I need more!

Repayment of my student loans

No explanation needed. A wishlist is a wishlist, right?
