Mascara Monday:Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara

Happy Monday, beautiful people!! I hope that you all had wonderful weekends. I managed to brave the last minute holiday shoppers and spend some time at Border’s Bookstore getting some much needed work done. I always get the best work done in a bookstore. I am a little late on reviewing this mascara being that I got several requests a few weeks ago. I have created a nice little “mascaras to review” spreadsheet that should aid in prompt review of the most requested mascaras. Thank you all for being so patient with me. Bring on the Stiletto!

Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara

Price: 5 out of 5 (a little less than $7 from Wal-Mart)
Packaging (Brush Wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims: ” Ultimate Length Mascara…seductive length, shiny patent finish, strengths and conditions” (per the packaging)–update your website, Maybelline!

The truth: Yes ladies and gentleman, your eyes do not deceive you…this is indeed a 5! Granted I have always been a Maybelline mascara fan but this baby here actually DOES what it says it’s going to do.

What I loved about it:
Okay, we can all agree on the fabulousness that is the packaging of this mascara. So slick and classy. It is definitely a step up from neon yellows and greens that Maybelline is known to come out with. I do have other loves about this mascaras but the packaging is my #1!

What I didn’t like: What’s not to like? The packaging is hot and the lengthening is up to par. No complaints here!

Overall: Yes, I am a little late reviewing this baby. Don’t hate me. I really had a hard time finding it…rumor has it that this mascara isn’t out everywhere and that Maybelline is really just “testing” it. Don’t ask me what that means. My sources aren’t TOO sure about this so don’t go around saying, “Brit said…”. LOL! I love this mascara and think that it is AMAZING as far as lengthening mascaras go. I mean….amazing. The wand (which I forgot to take a picture of..sorry!) is my ideal wand in that it is defined enough to get EVERY lash and it is small enough to give you good control. YES!

I personally think that all mascaras need to have smaller wands..they are just easier for application. Those big chunky wands (ahem…Maybelline Colossal) are hell for the clumsy folx of the world i.e. myself.

I didn’t experience any clumps, flaking or smudging with the Stiletto. I am highly impressed with this mascara. Like….a lot. I am now putting it on the HG Lengthening mascara list. That says a lot!

Lashes with NO mascara

Lashes with TWO coats

Would I recommend it?: No, I demand it! If you need a little length in your lashes….get this now!

Have you tried you tried this mascara yet? Looking forward to trying it? Not so much? Hated it? Think I’m exaggerating? Tell me, yo!

Amor de Lacquer: Tips and China Glaze OMG

Once again this Amor de Lacquer wasn’t planned but one of my favorite beauty bloggers dropped some tips that I just had to share with the Clumps of Mascara family. Scrangie proclaims THIS to be probably her most important post regarding polishes. Stroll on over to her place and check it out!

And for my nail of the day, check out the holographic brightness that is China Glaze’s OMG.

I took this a week back when my nails were a little shorter. 2 coats ensures complete coverage (like it’s car insurance, lol!) and I topped it off with Seche Vite top coat. Holographic polishes are so much fun to me! And look how it pops in real lighting.

Loves it! Enjoy your weekend!

FOTD Friday: Holiday Look

Fa la la laaaa…it’s Friday! And 6 days before Christmas. I have yet to do any Christmas shopping. Not because I’m not in the mood but I am finding it so difficult to buy gifts for people who seem to have….enough. Am I the only one who feels like this?

The good news is I am still in the Christmas spirit! I wish I could have worn this look last week to a Toy Drive that my office sponsored. It’s a very simple look done with some of my favorite products in my little collection:

That Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick (1 of 3 BB items that I own) in Bronze is seriously one my of favorite beauty products EVER! I didn’t want to do anything too overpowering with red and green like I did last year:

This year’s look is a little more subtle and definitely wearable to the office holiday party.

Here’s what I used….

MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW45
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Bronze (cheeks)

Too Faced Shadow Insurance
NARS Emmanuel eyeshadow
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Bronze
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Covet
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Prescriptives False Eyelashes mascara

Clinique Red-y to Wear High Impact lipstick

That Clinique lippie is wonderful! It’s red but soft enough for you “I can’t wear red lipstick yet” ladies.

Not sure how festive my nails are though.

But if you are in the market for a black nail polish with beautiful silver glitter….Sally Hansen’s Raven Ring is hotness!

Is this work place appropriate or what? Does anyone have any upcoming holiday/family parties? Tell me about your looks!

I hope yall have a wonderful weekend! Don’t hesitate to drop me an email at telling me about all of your holiday finds.

Stay beautiful!

Beauty Review: Chapstick True Shimmer

Review time!

But first….raise you hand if you have ever owned a Chapstick.

*looks around*

I think just about everyone has owned Chapstick. You too, fellas! It’s just a staple when it comes to lip care. I remember being a little girl and beating the winter weathered chapped lips with a tube of Chapstick…you know, the kind with the blue packaging.

Chapstick has a new lip balm that adds a little more to your lippies: shimmer!

I absolutely adore these babies….which is shocking because I have never been the glittery goddess type but the shimmer in these are very subtle. And of course it has that wonderful long-lasting moisture that we have all grown to love from the Chapstick brand. And is it just me or can I *licks lips* taste a somethin’-somethin’?

Check me out!

Just a very sheer but pretty shimmer. I tried pairing one with a lip liner from Milani Cosmetics (Bonfire) and it worked perfectly!

I am finding that these are perfect for the holidays. If not as stocking stuffers, maybe you can trim your tree with them, eh?

Don’t laugh at me….yall know it’s cute. LOL! Not bad for only $2.79. And of course you can find them at any drug, food or convenience store. Are you a Chapstick fan? What’s your favorite item from them?

Stay puckering,

Drop by later today! I will be announcing the winner from last week’s giveaway as well as dropping the details for the next one! You’re excited, uh? I know you are. :)

But Black Women Can’t: Wear Bright Eyeshadow

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen a post from this series, uh? I know you didn’t think I’ve covered EVERYTHING when it comes to Black women and what we CAN’T do in beauty or make-up. Oh no brothers and sisters….I have a ton of topics under my sleeve.

Let’s get stated with the most recent.

Remember my last FOTD Friday post?

The colors that I used were a hot pink and matte vibrant grape. Colors that I’m sure a great deal of Black women would run away from because they think that they would look like a “clown”.

First of all, I am so sick of Black women saying this. Ladies…yall will never look like this dude (and mind you I’m taking a risk. Clowns scare the mess out of me):

*shivers* No ma’am. You will not look like a Bobo or a Bozo so relax. But I think I have figured out why a lot of women shy away from bright colors on the lid. Look at this picture:

That’s why….a lot of you (yes, I’m calling you out. It’s okay. I had to learn too) tend to get the side eye when you wear bright shadow. I used to be the saaaame way. Now don’t yall laugh at me. I was very new to make-up and didn’t know any better.

Now what in the Blackberry Storm is going on here? Why is the pink shadow up to my brow? A mess. A very hot and tragic mess. Granted the colors used there were not as bright as my previous FOTD but the concept is all wrong. And because I’m a good sport and like to make yall laugh I decided to show what would happen if I rocked bright pink eyeshadow alll the way up to my brow bone….

Scary, uh? But check out the red fingernail. Gotta love that China Glaze Ruby!

Black women, and all women for that matter, we CAN rock all colors but make sure that you understand your eyeshadow shape and placement…. As a matter of fact, I’ve been following this little diagram from (source) for quite some time.

I also did a 7-minute tutorial of this this look for the purpose of showing where colors should go. If you need to see things done in person, I think this video will be great for your viewing.

Bright Eyeshadow Tutorial for Brown Ladies

Do you wear brighter eyeshadow colors or not so much? Tell me! Have I helped some? Please let me know. :)

Don’t forget to enter the giveaway! It ends today.

Stay beautiful,

Amor de Lacquer: You can grow long nails!

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas at

I didn’t plan this post but I just had to share some posts that 2 of my favorite nail bloggers have done. Polishing your nails is one thing but taking care of them so that they grow nice and long (if that is your preference) is another thing.

  • Steph over at Nail Juice was a chronic nail biter for 17 years and now you can’t even tell! She drops some tips on how you can keep your nails growing long…and beautiful like hers.
  • I would have never thought that Katee at E-Polishblog ever had shorter nails, but she did! She too drops some tips (including my favorite: wear rubber gloves when cleaning) on how you can go from little nubbies to longer and more beautiful nails.

What kind of nails are you rocking? Short? Long and witch like? Acrylic? Non-existent? Tell me! I’ve always had freakishly long nail beds that are pretty sturdy so that’s one gene that I thank the parentals for.

And you know that no post is complete without a NOTD (nail of the day).

China Glaze’s Romantique collection doesn’t come out until January of 2009 and I really had no intentions of snagging anything from it until I saw Katee’s swatches. I ordered Harmony and Joy and here is the beauty that is Joy.

It only took 2 coats from this metallic iced grape color to come out perfectly. I topped it off with Seche Vite top coat and it lasted for a good 2 days. It looks a little bling-y inside but outside it is more subdued and just perfect.

What do you think about this color? Not your style? A must have?
