Lip stuffs

I’ve never been too fascinated with lip colors. I’ve always worn the same soft colors. And cheap brands too…NYC has always been one of my favs. But now I am slowly getting into creating a more diverse lip color collection. Similar to how I have a diverse eyeshadow collection.

And today I woke up and was realllly craving a “different” color. I viewed my lippies only to see that I didn’t have anything fun, yet subtle yet noticing yet business-like. So I pulled out my Pink Mauved pigment. This is actually a really pretty pigment color that I hadn’t used since doing my Halloween Mask. In fact, I very rarely play with pigments….a bit too messy for a klutz like myself. But I do enjoy collecting them.

So I figured I would play around with Pink Mauved on the lips and this is what I came up with.

Sooooo….it pretty much looks like Barbie Doll pink but I kinda like it. That is until I went outside and later checked myself in the mirror. I wiped it off with the quickness. Has anyone else ever had a case of “Oh….but it looked good at home”? This happens to me allll the time. I think I need to invest in better lighting. A mirror that lights up, perhaps?

So that little fluke has inspired me to cop some new lip stuffs. I know I’m on make-up probation from MAC (which now I’m thinking is crazy with the Stylistics out and all) but I’m really diggin’ Finery’s plum lips.

Maybe I should just buy it and get it over with. And maybe I’ll only purchase 1-2 items from Stylistics. Yeah….that should work. Right? Right? Bills first. I gotta stop this buying thing because it’s not like I have the extra money to spend on make-up. I really don’t. So yeah….I’m goin’ to the PRO store on Saturday and only spending under $50. And that should last me until Christmas.

Okay….there. Glad I settled that. And glad I’m not into Metal X. I got oily lids and ain’t tryna experiment with bases to figure out what works. Plus I have good purples, greens and blues. But 6th Sin is pretty. Uggghhh, help!!

Let’s digress.

I like Pink Mauved despite the fact it didn’t work well on the lips. But did it and Ruby Red really have to commit suicide?

Yall know that just ain’t right. I’m upset. Ohhh wellll…guess I gotta order more pigment samples from my girl, Cheryl. *siiiiigh* Anyone wanna suggest some MAC and non-MAC lip colors? And I suppose I need to get hip to lip pencils too.

Probation? What probation?

Peace and Finery

Eyelashes Edition & FOTD

Greetings!

And welcome to the Eyelashes for Newbies Edition of Clumps of Mascara. Today I will highlight some of the things that I’ve learned while playing around with mascara. Please keep in mind that a lot of these tidbits may be things you may have already known. Which if that is the case, good for you! This post will simply only assist other newbies stumbling over the hassles of mascara and eyelashes. I’ve got pictures coming up as well as a FOTD, so stay tuned!

Oh yeah…and just to warn you, I’m having some photo re-sizing issues
goin’ on in this post…..please excuse the mess. Trying some new things out!

Ahhh, I’ve always been attracted to the idea of having long long loooong lashes. Only I didn’t quite get that gene. So, I, like many other women have been trying to achieve the look of having long beautiful lashes for many years now. I’m no newbie to mascara itself, but I am a newbie to different concepts/methods.

Now I’m not gonna go on a rant about what mascara is the best. I don’t think there is one, personally. And I’ve tried a lot. Not a lot A LOT, but enough to never really be satisfied. And people swear by DiorShow but it’ll be a cold day in hell before I spend that much money on a mascara. But that’s just me. I only own four right now.

-L’Oreal Luminous
-L’Oreal Telescopic
-MAC Plush Lash
-MAC Fibre Rich

……I’m a big fan of L’Oreal mascaras. And I’ve recently figured out how to get MAC’s Fibre Rich to work for me. Which brings me to my first learned lesson.

(1) It’s okay to use different mascaras at the same time. In the FOTD you will see today, I used Telescopic for my first coat and then Fibre Rich for my next two. I’ve achieved the look that I wanted….which would not have been possible had I used each of them solo.

(2) Tilt your head up when you apply mascara. I’m probably the only person in America who didn’t know this, but I’ve found that tilting my head significantly makes a big difference in my overall application.

(3) Open your mouth when applying mascara. I don’t know….it helps. Can’t explain that phenomenon but it does help.

(4) Using an eyelash curler AFTER applying mascara….not so much a good idea. I’ve heard it works for some people but it rips out my poor lashes. Not a good look.

(5) Brush your eyelashes. I don’t know where I got this from, but I do it religiously now. I use a regular mascara wand (preferably a disposable one) and brush my Vaseline coated eyelashes every night before bed. Why the Vaseline? To add a little moisture. I don’t use a ton….globs of Vaseline floatin’ in the iris ain’t coo. Just enough to where my lashes are slightly moisturized. And then I use the mascara wand and brush up as if I’m applying mascara. Brushing stimulates hair follicles and promote hair growth!

And so there are my 5 tidbits..and now for some pictures!

Here are my funky eyelashes with no mascara.

They start to look a little better with one coat.

And theeeeeen, here we go with 3 coats! Clumps and all….I mean really….where else will you find a blog that showcases MISTAKES? I’m a mess. If you haven’t already noticed.

Okay, here’s my FOTD
I used:

FACE
Homemade Honey cleanser
Jojoba Oil
Prep N Prime with foundation brush
Mineralized Skinfinish in Deep Dark (my new BFF)

EYES
UPDD
Bamboom Paint
Woodwinked with Fix+ (with 242SE)
Handwritten on crease/outer V (with Sonia Kashuk blending brush)

LIPS

Beauty Powders & More

Soooo, I can’t believe it’s been almost a week since I’ve posted. Sorrryyyy!! I hope everyone has had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I spent mine in NYC and no matter how many times I go to that city, it still amazes me. I had an incredible time ice skating, seeing the Macy’s Day parade, Black Friday shoppin’, seeing the Rockettes, dining and spending time with the fam who I haven’t seen in 3 months (long time for me!)….so yes, all was well. And I hope yours was too!! I think I should add that I went lookin’ for the MAC Pro and uhhh…..couldn’t get in the door. So yeah, that kinda sucked. I did go into a Sephora and another MAC and walked out of both empty handed. Actually, I haven’t purchased much make-up since last Tuesday. The Of Beauty beauty powders dropped and I didn’t intend on picking up any of those but of course….I did.

Introducing Sunspill….a color that MAC defines as “Coral peach with white and gold reflect”.

I think it’s beautiful against my NW45 skin. A make-up artist told me that it would be a beautiful highlight under the eyes and even as an eyeshadow. I’ll play around with it a bit and show you what I’ve come up with—mistakes and all! I love how it isn’t TOO much. And it lacks glitter. I loathe glitter. It does have shimmer but works well against my skin so it looks like a highlight….not glittery. The 183 brush feels soooo soft and I wanted to get it, but $40? Uhhh….hopefully that’s a gift that Santa will leave under the tree.

I have seriously put myself on probation from purchasing anymore make-up products. I’m spending too much money and not doing enough practicing with the things that I have. The only investing I will do is in skin care products and accessories. But that’s it!…..hopefully. So in the meantime, I will practice, practice and practice. A friend of mine who, like me, is always moving from house to house wanted to know the easiest and most efficient way to compartmentalize her make-up. Now I’ve just recently become a make-up addict so I don’t have much compared to others, but I do know what it’s like to always be on the go. I’ve moved a total of 9 times in 4 years. Craziness, I know. But I think I have found a way to deal with eye shadow palettes when you have limited and temporary space. VELCRO!

I heart Velcro….it has so many uses. Check it.

You can buy Velcro anywhere….I got mine from K-Mart for less than $4. I stuck a piece on one side of my palette

Yikes, sorry for the blur, loves!

And then I placed the other side of the Velcro on the wall.

And viiiiooola!

Palettes on the wall. I don’t have mine aligned perfectly but oh well….ha. Not that picky about it. But it stays in place. I can see everything without pulling out drawers and best of all, I have more workspace.

I also think it’s a fun way to display your little hobby too. It looks like art! I think this is a great idea for dorms, apartments or even for folx who are working in small areas. I even Velcro my shadows when I depot….I can’t seem to find the right size magnets, but small Velcro pieces work. Try it! I’m going to do EnKore’s brush holder next. You see how mine are just hangin’ in there lookin’ funny. HA!

I haven’t done any recent FOTDs. I can’t get over the brows. Everytime I take a pic, I delete it because I’m not likin’ how I’ve been lookin’ these past few weeks. STILL! They are growin’ and I’m bein’ patient. Review post coming up soon! Off to check out other beauty blogs…..if I haven’t added yours, please let me know!

Peace and Time Square! Missin’ NYC already….*tear*

Weekend Ish

So I’m back. No more flu. Thank you all for your well wishes. I healed myself again without the use of OTCs. Only herbal, homeopathic and aromatherapy remedies and blends. My Mommy is an herbalist and is big on the “natural” tip. I didn’t play around with make-up too much last week since I was sick but I am thrilled at how my skin is looking these days. This is the best it has looked since I moved here. Of course I have 4 pimples getting ready to form but for the past 2 days….its looked fab. It’s a shame that I can’t have more acne-free days. LA smog, LA smog.

And I don’t even wear StudioTech anymore.
I just do….
-Prep N Prime
-Mineralized Skin Finish
…..an eye shadow or two and just gooooo.

It’s been a week since I’ve purchased Prep N Prime and I’m lovin’ it so far. I’ll do a beginner’s review on it later. No complaints so far.

I haven’t gotten around to playing with yellow eye shadows again like I said I was going to. No major beauty hauls this weekend either. Except this pretty little pearly color from Orly.

I’m staying far away from nail salons and especially acrylic nails. I’m really on this “self-beautification” thing these days. Which is why I spent 6 hours twisting my hair instead of pay someone else to do it. That was so not fun.

And I think I’ve found a good neutral look. Check it:

For a base I pulled out the UDPP and put MAC Paint Bamboo over it. I’ve been having some issues with Indianwood Paint Pot so I went back to the Paints and it’s actually working REALLY well. So I use that….lightly apply Woodwinked with a fluffy brush, hit my crease with some Cranberry and my outer V with Carbon.

I love Carbon….who would have thought you could do so much with a Black matte eye shadow. It’s such a staple for me.

I discovered 2 things about my eyes this weekend.
(1) I have a football field space between my eyes and eye brows. I’m serious. And I don’t think it’s a good thing. I have so much space between my eye and brows that I can’t ever really do a highlight because I end up looking clownish!! The pic below is me bein’ silly but I think it really shows just how much space I have! Urrggghhh!

(2) I have heavy lids. My lid goes completely over my crease. And then my crease disappears! I have to do the “surprised” (see above pic) look just for you to really see my eye make-up. I hate that! I’m thinking of doing a consultation (and payin’ for it, I guess) at MAC to figure out how I can work with my eye shape. It’s startin’ to drive me nuts.

I’m so glad that this is a short week! I went out and purchased some FAB boots for my NYC trip.

*Yums, you see the baby wipes?
I’m so addicted to them, I stock up!*

I haven’t been to NYC in a minute so I’m excited. I also went and purchased my first scarf. That’s big here in Cali, I guess. In FL, you don’t see anyone wearing a scarf and it gets pretty cold there too. Hmm, interesting.

And before I went home I went to Starbucks on La Cienega and Beverly Blvd….waiting to be discovered. LOL! Just kidding….*looks around*—not really though. Pulled out a book (after balancing the checkbook….gulp), put the feet up and just chillllled. The music was fab too. Prince, Jill Scott, India Arie, John Mayer…I was jammin’. And I’m not even a coffee drinker (this was my 2nd one this year!) but that Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha is amazing.

Yaaaay, tis all for now. Makin’ my rounds to my other beauty blogs.

Peace and scarves!

Oh yeah….and the blog is gonna undergo some ugly construction.
I’m playin’ around with HTML and doing some upgrading
so please excuse the mess. :)

I’m sick.

So I haven’t updated or checked out anyone’s blogs because…..I have the flu. Ugh, it’s awful!! I’m still working (which probably isn’t the smartest thing, but I have to) and work from 7:30am-6pm….I take a shower, eat something and hit the bed by 8am. Not a minute later.

So don’t think that I’ve forgotten about any of you. Typin’ this quick message during my lunch break (which really ain’t a break because students keep harassing me!)……gotta go.

Peace and blessings.

Saturday Madness….

Today was a pretty decent productive day. I went to the Fashion District, East Los Angeles with one of my BFFs and of course we went to the mall. The mall was all decorated with Christmas stuffs and I was like….”Awwww!” Ever since I was a kid, I have adored the holiday season. Spending it a different city and different state with very few familiar faces is a bit hard, but I am slowly getting more into the spirit.

Ran through CVS before goin’ to Downtown and East Los Angeles and had a field day. I keep forgetting how much I love drugstores. I checked out L’Oreal mascaras (I was gonna get the newest one in the green tube but I gotta check out reviews on that first)…..ran over to Milani, NYC, Beauty of Essence brushes, CoverGirl stuffs and ended up at the candy aisle dopin’ up on sugary sweets.

Here’s my haul:

….my NYC lippie isn’t showing. And I know that neon orange isn’t even in style but I love crazy colors like that. More so for my toes. And I went to a MAC counter and got the Prep & Prime for the face. I hope it works! I promise that will be my last MAC purchase for awhile. I need to save money if I plan on going home for the holidays. I haven’t even booked a flight! Yikes!

Oh….as I promised…..here’s how the brows are lookin’ these days:

You see how much hair I have growing back? And I know I may have been exaggerating a bit but I think this picture shows just how much she took off. Look how thick my brows are SUPPOSED to be. HA, crazy, right?

….and they make me look like I’m surprised. Here I am making more a normal face but the brows make me look like I’m like, SHOCKED or somethin’. I hate that! LOL!

And they almost look nonexistent here….

Ayyy…..Imma be aight, I suppose. I’m really not worried about them anymore. Tis it for now! Back to watching “Waiting to Exhale” for the 39,483rd time. I should be out on a date or partyin’ it up with friends but I am a truly an old woman with no funds and livin’ in a foreign city. Ain’t that just fab?

Peace and vegetarianism!
