TAGGED!

Yaaaaay, so Yums tagged me! I love these little tagging games. It’s fun to get to know a little something about you fellow bloggers. I’ve also thrown in an old skool pic of myself. ‘Bout a year ago. Loved that hair color. I may do that again come this Spring. Oh wait…check me out in Blue Black.

Crazy difference, no? And I was rockin’ a fab Hello Kitty necklace that I can’t find. Urrrgghhh! And what’s with pics in the car? LOL, am I the only one that does that? Anyway…let’s get to it.

(1) 5 of my favorite genres of music are: classical, jungle, screwed&chopped, ballroom and Egyptian. And I absolutely loathe mainstream music.

(2) I speak Spanish fluently. So much that my sisters and I used to pretend that we were Dominican back in the day.

(3) I don’t know where home is.

(4) I have several hobbies including cooking, make-up (obviously), photography, writing, reading, graphic designing, volunteering, traveling and water sports. I indulge in all of them pretty regularly.

(5) I’ve had some pretty random jobs. I’ve been a baby sitter, an assistant manager at Walgreens, Production Assistant, Photo Technician, teacher, telemarketer (the worse) and newspaper editor.

(6) I just graduated in August 2007 after 4 long years of undergrad. I changed my major from Journalism, Broadcasting, Computer Programming and finally settled for Africana Studies. 4 months later and I still don’t know what I want to do. HA!

(7) I know the alphabet backwards in English and Spanish, all of the books of the Bible, the word tongue in four languages and can identify several Vivaldi pieces. I know, I’m a nerd!

Whooooo’s next? I’m taggin’ the following:

..and I don’t know who else to do because I don’t want to TAG people who’ve already been tagged. LOL….ahh well.

Peace and jazz.

Pucker Up!

So yeah….pimples are back. And they brought a little partner called Seborrheic dermatitis. It’s the most random thing ever. My face gets all hot and it looks like a flesh eating bacteria has taken over. It’s awful. Hydrocortisone cream helps. Anywho. I’m getting patches of that again. So in the next few pictures you may see that. I think I’ve gotten it under control for the most part, but still….

OH—and for those that are using MAC’s Prep-N-Prime, I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong. I honestly like the product, but it’s leaving my face a bit ghostly lookin’. It looks white after I put it on….I’m using a brush and applying it as lightly as I can. What’s the prob, mayn? Anyone got any application ideas? Or maybe this just isn’t for me….I don’t know. The next time I go to MAC to ask questions about this, but I’m getting a bit pissed off at MAC in the Skincare department. First the Strobe Cream now me. I can’t the pearly shimmer stuff they put in some of their skincare products. Definitely not brown skinned folx friendly—-or it could be me. I don’t know. We’ll see.

So….I tried something different the other day. A colored liner on my waterline (or is that the lower lash line? I get an F in facial terminology). It’s pretty fun…

And here are shots of me after getting’ my lips done at MAC Pro.

Oh…and there is Stylistics.

I couldn’t bring myself to spend that much money on products that didn’t really WOW me. Or maybe I’m in denial because I’m a broke ass and just can’t afford it. Who knows. Maybe Santa will bring me something. But if not, life will move on. Passing on Metal X and The Stylistics ain’t THAT hard.

On to the lips….
I’ve decided to return my Chestnut Lip pencil. Don’t think I have much use for that. Especially since I have a pretty decent brown from Milani.
Here are my FOTDs…..you have been warned of the dermatitis on the left cheek (your right) so yeah….it sucks. So sad. Still blaming the harsh elements of LA smog. I can’t do this city thing. I need to go back to my clean Floridian air. Ha!

FACE:
Mommy’s Homemade Honey cleanser
Olay Complete moisturizer
MAC’s Prep-N-Prime
Mineralized Skinfinish in Deep Dark
Fix +

EYES:
Revlon Colorstay eyeliner
Loreal Cream liner in Blue
MAC Fibre Rich mascara

LIPS:
Burt’s Bees Lip Balm
Night Moth lip pencil
Culture Class lipstick/Ultra Madame in last pic
Contessa Lipglass

(yikes…Blurville. My bad, peeps)

I really like not putting a mess load of products on my eyes. I never realized how time consuming it is. I have 20 minutes more in the morning!

On a good note….the brows are growing back! I’m elated. They are looking better. It’s 34 days since the incident and I’m so happy at how fast they are growing. Still not perfect but at least I don’t walk around looking super duper surprised anymore. And I seriously don’t want to draw them in anymore. Because my brows are so thick, I am confident in thinking that I can have decent arched brows without the assistance of liners, stencils and things like that. But we’ll see how I feel in a month or two. Ha.

Peace and Decision Making

My Haul

So guess who decided to do a review of her most recent haul?
MEEEE!!!

It ain’t nothin’ spectacular. Just 5 minutes of me rambling about what I got. The camera gets fuzzy….things go sideways. I got mascara clumpy stuff on my face but its all in good fun.

Oh…and I stumble over people’s names, go on tangents and am basically a hot mess.
So yeah….you’ve been warned. LOL!

Enjoy and lemme know what you think.

Peace and Hollywood Blvd.

Lip stuffs

I’ve never been too fascinated with lip colors. I’ve always worn the same soft colors. And cheap brands too…NYC has always been one of my favs. But now I am slowly getting into creating a more diverse lip color collection. Similar to how I have a diverse eyeshadow collection.

And today I woke up and was realllly craving a “different” color. I viewed my lippies only to see that I didn’t have anything fun, yet subtle yet noticing yet business-like. So I pulled out my Pink Mauved pigment. This is actually a really pretty pigment color that I hadn’t used since doing my Halloween Mask. In fact, I very rarely play with pigments….a bit too messy for a klutz like myself. But I do enjoy collecting them.

So I figured I would play around with Pink Mauved on the lips and this is what I came up with.

Sooooo….it pretty much looks like Barbie Doll pink but I kinda like it. That is until I went outside and later checked myself in the mirror. I wiped it off with the quickness. Has anyone else ever had a case of “Oh….but it looked good at home”? This happens to me allll the time. I think I need to invest in better lighting. A mirror that lights up, perhaps?

So that little fluke has inspired me to cop some new lip stuffs. I know I’m on make-up probation from MAC (which now I’m thinking is crazy with the Stylistics out and all) but I’m really diggin’ Finery’s plum lips.

Maybe I should just buy it and get it over with. And maybe I’ll only purchase 1-2 items from Stylistics. Yeah….that should work. Right? Right? Bills first. I gotta stop this buying thing because it’s not like I have the extra money to spend on make-up. I really don’t. So yeah….I’m goin’ to the PRO store on Saturday and only spending under $50. And that should last me until Christmas.

Okay….there. Glad I settled that. And glad I’m not into Metal X. I got oily lids and ain’t tryna experiment with bases to figure out what works. Plus I have good purples, greens and blues. But 6th Sin is pretty. Uggghhh, help!!

Let’s digress.

I like Pink Mauved despite the fact it didn’t work well on the lips. But did it and Ruby Red really have to commit suicide?

Yall know that just ain’t right. I’m upset. Ohhh wellll…guess I gotta order more pigment samples from my girl, Cheryl. *siiiiigh* Anyone wanna suggest some MAC and non-MAC lip colors? And I suppose I need to get hip to lip pencils too.

Probation? What probation?

Peace and Finery

Eyelashes Edition & FOTD

Greetings!

And welcome to the Eyelashes for Newbies Edition of Clumps of Mascara. Today I will highlight some of the things that I’ve learned while playing around with mascara. Please keep in mind that a lot of these tidbits may be things you may have already known. Which if that is the case, good for you! This post will simply only assist other newbies stumbling over the hassles of mascara and eyelashes. I’ve got pictures coming up as well as a FOTD, so stay tuned!

Oh yeah…and just to warn you, I’m having some photo re-sizing issues
goin’ on in this post…..please excuse the mess. Trying some new things out!

Ahhh, I’ve always been attracted to the idea of having long long loooong lashes. Only I didn’t quite get that gene. So, I, like many other women have been trying to achieve the look of having long beautiful lashes for many years now. I’m no newbie to mascara itself, but I am a newbie to different concepts/methods.

Now I’m not gonna go on a rant about what mascara is the best. I don’t think there is one, personally. And I’ve tried a lot. Not a lot A LOT, but enough to never really be satisfied. And people swear by DiorShow but it’ll be a cold day in hell before I spend that much money on a mascara. But that’s just me. I only own four right now.

-L’Oreal Luminous
-L’Oreal Telescopic
-MAC Plush Lash
-MAC Fibre Rich

……I’m a big fan of L’Oreal mascaras. And I’ve recently figured out how to get MAC’s Fibre Rich to work for me. Which brings me to my first learned lesson.

(1) It’s okay to use different mascaras at the same time. In the FOTD you will see today, I used Telescopic for my first coat and then Fibre Rich for my next two. I’ve achieved the look that I wanted….which would not have been possible had I used each of them solo.

(2) Tilt your head up when you apply mascara. I’m probably the only person in America who didn’t know this, but I’ve found that tilting my head significantly makes a big difference in my overall application.

(3) Open your mouth when applying mascara. I don’t know….it helps. Can’t explain that phenomenon but it does help.

(4) Using an eyelash curler AFTER applying mascara….not so much a good idea. I’ve heard it works for some people but it rips out my poor lashes. Not a good look.

(5) Brush your eyelashes. I don’t know where I got this from, but I do it religiously now. I use a regular mascara wand (preferably a disposable one) and brush my Vaseline coated eyelashes every night before bed. Why the Vaseline? To add a little moisture. I don’t use a ton….globs of Vaseline floatin’ in the iris ain’t coo. Just enough to where my lashes are slightly moisturized. And then I use the mascara wand and brush up as if I’m applying mascara. Brushing stimulates hair follicles and promote hair growth!

And so there are my 5 tidbits..and now for some pictures!

Here are my funky eyelashes with no mascara.

They start to look a little better with one coat.

And theeeeeen, here we go with 3 coats! Clumps and all….I mean really….where else will you find a blog that showcases MISTAKES? I’m a mess. If you haven’t already noticed.

Okay, here’s my FOTD

Beauty Powders & More

Soooo, I can’t believe it’s been almost a week since I’ve posted. Sorrryyyy!! I hope everyone has had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I spent mine in NYC and no matter how many times I go to that city, it still amazes me. I had an incredible time ice skating, seeing the Macy’s Day parade, Black Friday shoppin’, seeing the Rockettes, dining and spending time with the fam who I haven’t seen in 3 months (long time for me!)….so yes, all was well. And I hope yours was too!! I think I should add that I went lookin’ for the MAC Pro and uhhh…..couldn’t get in the door. So yeah, that kinda sucked. I did go into a Sephora and another MAC and walked out of both empty handed. Actually, I haven’t purchased much make-up since last Tuesday. The Of Beauty beauty powders dropped and I didn’t intend on picking up any of those but of course….I did.

Introducing Sunspill….a color that MAC defines as “Coral peach with white and gold reflect”.

I think it’s beautiful against my NW45 skin. A make-up artist told me that it would be a beautiful highlight under the eyes and even as an eyeshadow. I’ll play around with it a bit and show you what I’ve come up with—mistakes and all! I love how it isn’t TOO much. And it lacks glitter. I loathe glitter. It does have shimmer but works well against my skin so it looks like a highlight….not glittery. The 183 brush feels soooo soft and I wanted to get it, but $40? Uhhh….hopefully that’s a gift that Santa will leave under the tree.

I have seriously put myself on probation from purchasing anymore make-up products. I’m spending too much money and not doing enough practicing with the things that I have. The only investing I will do is in skin care products and accessories. But that’s it!…..hopefully. So in the meantime, I will practice, practice and practice. A friend of mine who, like me, is always moving from house to house wanted to know the easiest and most efficient way to compartmentalize her make-up. Now I’ve just recently become a make-up addict so I don’t have much compared to others, but I do know what it’s like to always be on the go. I’ve moved a total of 9 times in 4 years. Craziness, I know. But I think I have found a way to deal with eye shadow palettes when you have limited and temporary space. VELCRO!

I heart Velcro….it has so many uses. Check it.

You can buy Velcro anywhere….I got mine from K-Mart for less than $4. I stuck a piece on one side of my palette

Yikes, sorry for the blur, loves!

And then I placed the other side of the Velcro on the wall.

And viiiiooola!

Palettes on the wall. I don’t have mine aligned perfectly but oh well….ha. Not that picky about it. But it stays in place. I can see everything without pulling out drawers and best of all, I have more workspace.

I also think it’s a fun way to display your little hobby too. It looks like art! I think this is a great idea for dorms, apartments or even for folx who are working in small areas. I even Velcro my shadows when I depot….I can’t seem to find the right size magnets, but small Velcro pieces work. Try it! I’m going to do EnKore’s brush holder next. You see how mine are just hangin’ in there lookin’ funny. HA!

I haven’t done any recent FOTDs. I can’t get over the brows. Everytime I take a pic, I delete it because I’m not likin’ how I’ve been lookin’ these past few weeks. STILL! They are growin’ and I’m bein’ patient. Review post coming up soon! Off to check out other beauty blogs…..if I haven’t added yours, please let me know!

Peace and Time Square! Missin’ NYC already….*tear*
