Inspire Yourself

quotescover-JPG-76
Those were the words Esposo told me when I called him for what I thought would be a quick chat. What it turned into was a mini meltdown on my behalf. Excuse me while I turn this beauty blog into a venting public diary. You don’t mind, do you? You see…I’ve been going through thangs. Is it because I’ll be turning 30 and I feel like I should kinda sorta have my life in order? Is it because I want to love what I do while making money (which apparently is very rare)? Is it because I am realizing that I’m not okay with living the life that many Americans live and…hate? Okay, I know I’m being vague but roll with me.

I want happiness. I want money because money provides opportunity and experiences and…chances. Lately I’ve been getting discouraged in thinking I’ll have to work bOOOOooooring jobs that may pay well but that don’t touch anything. Or anyone. Deep down inside I know I was put here on this Earth to help people. Beyond giving them mascara recommendations, ya know? I’m not made to work in cubicles for companies for 40 hours a week, every week. That’s not my calling. Neither is being a stay at home mom. Could I do it? Absolutely. Do I want to? No.

I’ve spent my 20’s feeling lost and not knowing what I wanted and where I’m going. I can’t exactly pinppoint exactly what I want now but I know what I don’t want and I feel like it’s time to refine some things. And I don’t know how. It will require many prayers and some soul searching. I know I’ll get there but this is just a rough patch that I’m going through.

I may blog about it which may turn some of you off. Which I totally understand because you came here to talk about makeup. Not about the woes of a 29-year old. Am I right? But something is telling me that it’s okay to share a little. So…I’ll share.

But, in the meantime I’m going to inspire myself. And you should, too. Surely there were moments and times in your life that you thought you’d never get through. But you did. Here I am looking for inspiration when I have my own past experiences to glance at. So yeah, girlfriend. Inspire yo’self!!

Talk soon.

XOXO,
B

I’m Hosting A Prestige Cosmetics Twitter Party Again! #BackToBlack

Girls.

I had the worst headache everrrrrr last night. It was unreal. Luckily one of my gal pals was visiting and helped me Elle (because you know…Esposo has been traveling for work for 2 weeks now) and I could not have been more grateful. I’m thinking that my life as a new mother is scaring her. Truthfully, it scares me, too. My friend is shocked at how much goes into just getting these tiny (crazy toddler) humans fed and in bed. Yes, it’s unreal. And scary. It is indeed birth control for both her and myself. None of this has anything to do with this Twitter party that I’m hosting but I thought I’d give some insight into my life. HAAAA!!!!

This party, though…

promo_38089_photo

I’m excited about it. This is my second time hosting a Twitter party with Prestige Cosmetics and the first one was explosive! They brought me on board again and this time I’ll be co-hosting with my good friend and homie Erin of Scandalous Beauty and I am excitedddddd! We’re going to rap about Prestige Cosmetics’ newest collection and one lucky participant will snag a door prize. Be sure to RSVP to qualify for this door prize and join us as we chat about Prestige’s 18 new basic black products.

See you thurr!

Playin’ Up The Eyes

walmart_beauty_logo

Wearing a full face of makeup in the summer is so not even an option. Yes, girls…I know. It is so hard to wear less when you are used to looking like a bombshell each and every day. Instead of discontinuing the use of products that I love, I have decided to switch things up and wear products that are fitting for the summer. See! Easy, right? Instead of wearing foundations, I opt for tinted moisturizers or BB creams. Instead of lipsticks, I may start showing my lips stains more love. And when it comes to the eyes, well, I could never be without SOMETHING on them. Luckily, I don’t have to be thanks to Revlon’s Bold Lacquer mascara and Revlon’s ColorStay Skinny Liquid Liner.

DSC_2875

Perfect for the gal who loves letting her eyes do the talking for her, both of these products can produce such an amazing daytime look without much effort. After all, who really has time to put on a ton of makeup before a big meeting? You really don’t need a ton of products on your eyes to look…glamorous. Also, I find this look particularly easy for Moms of little ones.

After applying an eye shadow color that is close to your complexion, take Revlon’s ColorStay Skinny Liquid Liner and apply it to to your lower lashline.

DSC_2643

I love everything about these liners. Not only do they last just about all day, but Revlon has given us such an amazing selection of colors. I typically wear black eyeliner on my lower lashline but when the summer hits, I like to be a bit more bold with the color and I fine Green Spark to be right up my alley. It is edgy enough to be fun and eye-catching but also conservative enough to be worn in professional settings. Green Spark also looks great on girls of all eye colors and I think it especially compliments us brown-eyed girls. Also, formula-wise, while many of these liners are too watery, ColorStay Skinny applies with ease. The applicator is clumsy girl friendly and what you’re left with are sweet and straight lines that last all day.

But wait! You’re not done yet. If I don’t do anything else in the morning, I make sure to always apply mascara. Mascara is almost like magic because no one has to know that you stayed up last night binge watching your favorite show. Or that you are running on 3 hours of sleep because your baby decided that 4am was play time. Revlon’s Bold Lacquer mascara is not only great at making your eyes standout, but its lush black formula really gives the illusion of happier and more awake eyes.

When used together, both Revlon’s ColorStay Skinny Liquid Liner and Revlon’s Bold Lacquer mascara is the double threat for chicas on the go this summer. I can’t get enough of both of them and will be tossing them both in my suitcase for when I travel this summer.

You can get both at Walmart!

The Marriage Between Revlon’s Gel Envy ColorStay Nail Polish And Polka Dots

walmart_beauty_logo

I didn’t think the nail gel trend could get any larger, but…it keeps growing! Everyone wants gel nails. Just about every popular brand provides gel nail polishes and while I was totally not okay, with this…what can I say? The trend is finally growing on me. For one thing, gel nail polishes tend to last a lot longer than traditional nail polishes. This rocks my world in so many ways because yaaaay! I don’t have to worry about my nails chipping when I am out of town and don’t have the time to remove the polish.

I’ve trend over a dozen of brands that say they’ve got the best gel nail polish, and I don’t know, girls…sometimes I think brands that you can purchase at Walmart do it better. Take Revlon’s Gel Envy ColorStay nail polish.

Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy

This baby doesn’t move. I’m not even kidding. I can achieve an opaque finish with only 2 coats and the polish will last and last and last.

How To Get A Sizzling Summer Look In 5 Easy Steps

walmart_beauty_logo
Revlon products

This post is brought to you by Simply Beautiful and Walmart and I will be showcasing tips and products on how you can achieve a Sizzling Summer statement. I love summer time! I really do. But when it comes to makeup during the summer, I am a believer of the “less is more”.

Clumps of Mascara

I love playing up the eyes, wearing a dramatic lip and keeping my cheeks simple with a touch of bronzer or blush. Mind you, I live in Florida. And the wearing a ton of makeup everyday thing just doesn’t seem sensible when you’re battling humidity and mini hurricanes every other day.

Summer look with Revlon

I managed to crank out this entire look spending practically nothing. Lean in, girlfriends. I’m going to show you how this works. But first, let’s give a shout-out to the products that were used…

  • Revlon Bold Lacquer mascara
  • Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner
  • Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick
  • Revlon Powder Blush

I grabbed each and every one of those products at my local Walmart. First up, I evened out my skin tone with a pressed powder. I truly wish Revlon’s PhotoReady BB Cream came in darker shades as I’ve heard great things about it but they don’t have anything fitting for my deep complexion. *raises fist to Revlon* Good ole’ Rev won me back with their fantastic powder blush in Wine Not.

Revlon Powder Blush

I applied it to the apples of my cheeks and was left with a great dose of color. Since I’m a girl who loves bold lips, I selected Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fuchsia Fusion.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

Shades like this rock my world because I find them so flattering on women of all complexions. We’ve got our understated cheeks and a bold lip and so it’s on to the eyes.

Revlon’s Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner is some kind of great because the brush is stiff enough to really give you control and the formula is not only long lasting but the BLACK is rich, deep and sultry.

Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner

It pairs perfectly with Revlon’s Bold Lacquer mascara. Perfect for my girls who are looking to have dramatic eyes, Bold Lacquer not only delivers but it lasts for hours at a time.

I haven’t tested it in a thunderstorm yet, but something tells me that she won’t budge. But really, what’s a Summer Sizzling look without a hot manicure to match?

Boom. Thank you, Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel.

Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel

Gel nails are the trend these days but I love how I am able to get salon performance at a fraction of the cost. And I can do it at home. High Stakes is a funky hunter green and it totally fits my personality. It also makes for a pretty fantastic manicure and pedicure color. Green is a pretty untraditional shade for summer but hey, it’s cool to switch it up every now and then, right?

Clumps of Mascar rocks Summer Look

And there you have it. A look fit for summer that you too can create at home with these affordable goodies from your local Walmart. The best part? A look like this takes very little time.

What are you thinking, lovely lady? Would you wear a look like this or would you play up the eyes more with an understated lip? Let me know in the comments! Did I Tell Y’all That I am A Part Time Mommy Blogger?

Yep! I blog over at Mom.me and each week I toss up a post about…parenting stuff. I’ve been a mama for almost 2 years now (OMG!!) and it is the most time-consuming, hair pulling, stressfully rewarding experience ever. I mulled over starting a parenting blog but I didn’t like writing about parenting stuff THAT much. Being a contributor to Mom.me is great because it gives me a platform to share my thoughts and experiences without letting the entire world IN on our lives. Because y’all know how I hate sharing a ton of Elle’s pictures and experiences on the internet…

But from time to time, I think I will share a post over here with the Clumps family. I know that a lot of you all are parents (or parents to be) and knowing that you aren’t alone in the struggles is always so so helpful. That said, check out my most recent post

Notepad (1)

I put my heart and soul into that post and did a lot of crying while writing it. I know. I’m a sap.

And while you’re at it, check out 10 facts about Elle Belle. It has been forever since I’ve written about her on Clumps so I’m thinking these facts will give you a clue as to what kind of character we’re dealin’ it.

  • Elle and I both have moles on our chins!
  • Elle’s name is mispronounced 80% of the time.
  • Elle’s bedroom is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom inspired.
  • Elle was born on the same day as Blue Ivy Carter.
  • 90% of Elle’s wardrobe are from consignment stores.
  • Elle is a picky eater and eats rice and eggs with spinach almost every day.
  • Elle learned her colors by playing with Mommy’s nail polishes.
  • Elle is the first and only grandchild on both sides.
  • Elle communicates with words and she also knows sign language.
  • Elle is almost 2 years old and barely weighs 20 lbs. She’s tiny but healthy!

Naturally Fly Body Butters Are Perfection

A few months back I received 2 tubs of Naturally Fly’s body butters and I was all kinds of excited about it. I am a buttah girl. Yes, I know the buttahs are a new thing for a lot of y’all but for many brown girls, we grew up on the buttahs and oils. I’m not laughing at you for being late to the party. I’m just glad that that you’re here.

Naturally Fly Midnight Mango

Shea butter based products are glorious for those of us who suffer from chronic dry skin and eczema. If you don’t fall into either of these categories, you can still get some use out of shea butter thanks to its Vitamin A and Vitamin E properties. Naturally Fly is giving us an assortment of over 6 different body butters and I managed to get my hands on Midnight Mango and Honey Punch.

Naturally Fly
Honey Punch is currently MIA because a certain toddler of mine has hid it and I’m sure it won’t show its face for about a year or so. The funny thing about both of these products is that they smelled exactly the same. To make sure my nose wasn’t off, I asked my Mom to sniff ‘em too and she agreed. I’m not mad at this because it is VERY difficult to cut the very nutty smell of shea butter. I was really looking forward to having a honey scented butter but its lack of a fragrance didn’t upset me because y’all know how I feel about fragrances…I could absolutely live without them.

Naturally Fly Shea Butter

I’m thinking that I may have just gotten a wonky batch because reviews of these butters are saying that the fragrance is indeed there. But performance-wise…they rock! I mean, they really are wonderful. These butters are whipped to perfection and glide easily on the body. I didn’t find these to be very different from a traditional whipped shea butter and that’s a good thing. Sometimes it’s best to stick with what works! And this works in that it provides deep moisturization for the skin and leaves it with a non-sticky glow. So yes, y’all. I am a fan.

It looks as if each butter contains another oil like olive oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil and avocado oil and a fragrance but if I were to purchase these again, I’d snag the ones without fragrance. Retailing for $14.99, I think the price point for these works as the jar is large enough to last you a good little while, especially since a little bit of shea butter goes a long way.

Check out the site here!

Are you a lover of shea butter?

ETA: It turns out that I received the fragrance-free version of these.
