My Eucerin’s Skin Hydration Par-tay + A Crazy Awesome Giveaway!

So y’all know how much  I love Eucerin, right? Last year I did like a gajillion posts on their products. Including that body wash that helped get rid of eczema. As a Eucerin ambassador I’ll be doing a ton of features the cool stuffs they’ve got.

A few weekends ago, my gal pal D came over and we plunged into a box of Eucerin goodies that was sent to me.

DSC_7640

We acted like children. I mean, it was insane. We dug into the box and chit chatted over the products. Eucerin also sent us a wonderful face scrub and eye soothers but we both had our little babes with us and uh, yeah…there’s no relaxing with a 3-month old and 16-month old in the house. But we had a good time anyway.

D was in love with the Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. She didn’t even know Eucerin made cleansers. Say whaaaat! I had to school her on the awesomeness of Eucerin’s moisturizers AND cleansers. And then we both got schooled when we tried to figure out which moisturizers would best suit our needs.

DSC_7641

Eucerin has a darling little system that can assist with this. Have you ever noticed the little teardrop at the bottom of their bottles?

DSC_7647

These indicators are great at helping you decide what kind of moisturizer you need. I pretty much always need “Rich” and I’m okay with that. Yours truly was born with crazy dry skin.

Stay tuned for more of these Eucerin posts. I’ve got so much to share! You can also visit Eucerin on Facebook and check out their Eucerin Skin Solution Center. Especially if you need some product recommendations for keeping that skin of yours hydrated.

Makeup Wars: Our Favorite Masks

Mask7

I’m not even gonna sit here and front, y’all. I haven’t used a mask in months. I simply don’t have the time for such pampering. *le sigh* Now it’s like “Hmm…should I put on a mask or try to bathe?” Ha! But back in the day when I was a child-free woman, I indulged in masks regularly. At least once a week! My Makeup Wars sisters and I are back to share with you some of our favorite masks. I’ll be highlighting 4 of my faves.

I mean, I could very well highlight 10 but I don’t want to overwhelm you. And these aren’t in any kind of order. First up is…

MaskerAide’s Sheet Masks

Mask11

Mask12

Words can’t explain how much I love a good sheet masks. These babies feel cool the entire time you wear them and they are super hydrating for the skin. Plus, who doesn’t want to walk around looking like Michael Myers? Ha! Oh! And they’re vegan and fragrance-free too. Y’all know how much I LOVE fragrance-free skincare products.

Boscia’s Luminizing Black Mask

Mask5

Mask6

I’m a child at heart so I love beauty products that look like dirt. And tar. It’s a pricey mask but migoodness, I love everything about this one. It takes awhile to dry once it does you are left with beautiful and glowing skin!

Bliss Rubberizing Mask

Mask1

Mask2

Mask3

Have a good  hour on your hands? Okay, I’m kidding. It doesn’t take that long to mix this mask up but it does take some time. And if you got it then you’ll really like this mask. It is definitely all science project-y and that’s what I like about it. Plus it’s a mask that feels like…rubber. I mean, come on! How fun is that? Is it effective though? It does clean the skin nicely but the real fun comes in mixing it up and applying it to the face.

Boscia Clarifying Detox Mask

Mask8

Mask9

Aaaand, this, ladies and gentlemen, is one of my FAVORITE masks of all time. When my skin is in need of some serious repairing, this is the mask that I turn to. I’m all for getting facials regularly but since all of us aren’t able to do so, this is the mask that will leave you feeling like you truly pampered your skin.

Not pictured but a mask that I’m always usin’ is the always faithful brown sugar and jojoba mask that I whip up in my kitchen.

Check out my fellow Makeup Wars sisters to see what kind of masks they’re lovin’….

Mascara Monday: Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious mascara

Revlon Lash Potion mascara

A new Revlon mascara!! It is a well known Clumps of Mascara fact that I’ve always had issues with Revlon mascaras. And I’m not the only one either. Many of you have had your issues with the brand’s mascaras. The past few, however, have been decent and despite not being an insane fan of the original Grow Luscious mascara, I was kinda excited to try this one that I received for review.

And I mean, look at the packaging!

Revlon Lash Potion mascara

Revlon Lash Potion mascara

Talk about ‘Best Dressed Mascara’, uh? Let’s hope she lives up to her fabulousness!

Price: $7.99 at drug and mass retailers nationwide and from CVS, of course!
Packaging (brush wand): 3 out of 5
Overall: 3.5 out of 5

What It Claims: “Revlon Lash Potion drenches lashes with a potion of strengthening proteins for captivating volume and length. Lash Potion works to nourish lashes so they reach their fullest potential—looking lush, long and lustrous. The Lash Potion ‘Illusionist Wand’ has wide grooves to instantly coat lashes in formula for maximum volume and triple brushes to comb through for clump-free length – in just one swipe! There are no smoke and mirrors here – just enviable long, voluminous lashes.” (per press release)

The Truth: Not bad. Could be better though.

What I Loved About It: The volume is niiiice. It’s been awhile since I’ve tried a mascara with a good amount of volume. This one has it!

What I Didn’t Like: Revlon still can’t get the whole mascara packaging thing down right. Ugh. It’s so annoying.

Overall: I really do have a love/hate relationship with Revlon. I’ve always thought that their mascaras had so much potential but there was always something that stopped them from being awesome. It usually isn’t their wands because the wands are pretty awesome. I like this one a lot!

mascara wand

Yeah, it’s pretty massive but it’s a fantastic wand for volumizing. And boy does it really bring those lashes out there! If you’ve got super tiny lids or lashes you may struggle with this one a bit. And not because the wand is so huge. But because of that huge mascara hole…

mascara tube

This is so common in Revlon’s mascaras that I’ve given it a name. I’ve named it the Black Abyss. I don’t know why this feature keeps popping up in their mascaras. It does nothing but cover their great brushes with a ton of mascara goop. And it takes time to remove said goop. Time that many don’t have, well…time for. That said – as awesome as the wand is, the Black Abyss gets in the way a bit.

But if you’ve managed to remove the excess goop and apply the mascara to your eyes you’ll achieve a wonderful set of lashes. I was amazed at what this mascara could do with only 1 coat. Pretty spectacular! The formula is pretty thick so it’s best to work quickly and settle with only 2 coats of mascara if you can help it. If you go for a third you may end up with clumps of mascara. Hehe. See what I did there?

There is a bit of downfall to this mascara though. I found that it tends to flake over time. It had a hard time lasting throughout an 8 hour work day. I would catch it flaking away a few hours later. Ugh. And we all know how much I hate flaking mascaras. The best way to prevent this is to apply as few coats as possible. So instead of 2, I found myself applying just 1 coat and I didn’t have the problem as much. But it kinda sucks because while my lashes looked great with 1 coat, they looked amaziiiiing with 2. *sigh*

I’m guessing the waterproof version of this should straighten that out a bit. I can’t speak on if the mascara will help thicken and strengthen lashes over time since I’ve only been testing it for a week. And as gorgeous as the packaging is, that dress of hers is very fragile. She got all scrapped up in my purse.

Revlon Lash Potion mascara

Boo.

Bare Lashes

Do I recommend it?: I do! But only if you’re in the market for a volumizing mascara. I think it’s great for short term wear if you don’t mind messing around with the excess mascara on the wand. And of course if you buy this mascara from CVS/pharmacy, it’s applicable for those awesome Extrabucks Rewards.

So Revlon still hasn’t fixed the “lack of a stopper” issue in their mascaras. Womp. But this is still a stellar mascara.

Food Yum: Avu Avu Restaurant Review + giveaway

[NOTE: This post is written by Esposo. He was invited to a media event at the restaurant Avu Avu. Jealous doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling looking at these pictures. By the way, he took the pictures too. Talented chap, isn't it? I'll keep him.  Carry on!-B]
Avu AVU

It’s good to be the king.

And kingly is how I felt upon entering the warm and inviting (if a tad dark) dining room at Avu-Avu. It’s not often I get greeted by a pretty hostess, given a colorful lai, and given a tasty tropical drink all within my first five minutes. It’s not quite the Hawaiian vacation I’ve been dreaming of, but that’ll do, pig. That’ll do.

Now all of this might have been because I was there as part of a group of social media allstars dubbed the #AvuAvuCrew, but I’d like to think it’s all part of the usual package. As I sat down with Droolius, Tasty Chomps, Eating Orlando and more, I couldn’t wait for the rest of my intro to the Buena Vista Palace’s new Polynesian concept.

DSC_0019

To be blunt, this meal was amazing. Instead of doing things in typical restaurant fashion, Avu-Avu serves their dishes family style and gives you unlimited access to the goods. (Waistline’s beware!) We started out nice and easy with edamame dip and tropical chips to snack on alongside our the previously mentioned cocktail. Then we got down to business. And by business I mean PORK.

DSC_0020

The Monsoon Platter may look like your typical Chinese/Hawaiian combo of potstickers and rib bites, but wait until you taste the guava chai barbecue sauce. Out of this world. No, that is not a typo. No, I’m not crazy. Yes, guava CHAI. Stop looking at me like that.

I know it sounds strange, but that sauce (which I need bottled, STAT) is only the tip of the iceberg. Each protein on the menu is paired with an innovative sauce or marinade using flavor profiles I’ve never seen before.

Expertly grilled skewers featuring Coffee Colada chicken breast, Root Beer BBQ pork, and Kalbi Marinated sirloin will have you asking for extras and needing to be wheeled out the door.

DSC_0045

And did I fail to mention that the Monsoon Platter comes with a trio of tasty dipping sauces? Just make sure to only use them on the chicken potstickers or I shall be forced to thrash you.

DSC_0024

To accompany these finely flamed feastables there was a tossed salad featuring toasted coconut and rice crackers with a carrot ginger vinaigrette as well as steaming bowls of stir fried udon noodles with lemon garlic broccoli. I know what you’re thinking, but fear not: the noodles weren’t at all greasy and the broccoli was expertly steamed so that it still had some bite to it. No limp lifeless veggies will be found here.

DSC_0030

DSC_0050

That’s not to say there were no negatives at all. The Citrus Ginger shrimp was kind of disappointing after all the greatness surrounding it, and it seems as though the cooks prefer to grill the Kalbi Marinated Sirloin on the rare side. That’s just fine for a predator like myself, but if you’re one of the masses who’s afraid to let his beef “moo” as it comes to the table, make sure to let your server know your preferred doneness.

As we closed out the night, all missteps were forgiven as dessert was served. Caramelized Pineapple Coconut Milk Cake was quite the mouthful to say and to eat, but eating it was an unforeseen pleasure.

DSC_0054

You see, I don’t like coconut. Never have. Never will. But THIS concoction had me wishing I hadn’t been quite so enthusiastic about the guava chai rib bites. A rich, but not too rich yellow cake, laced with pineapple chunks, and bathing in a bowl of coconut milk was just what the doctor ordered and a perfect way to end the meal. Especially when I had the brilliant idea of dumping some of the milk sauce into my coffee. Yum.

At $29.95 a head and unlimited eats, I’d say that Avu Avu definitely goes into the “win” column. The food prep was top notch, the staff gracious and inviting, and the sauces were insanely good.

DSC_0038

The only thing I’d suggest is that they start selling that guava chai rib sauce before I’m forced to raid coroporate headquarters for the secret recipe.

Want to win a dinner for 2 at Avu Avu? Shoot an email to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com with the subject: Feed Me. I’ll be giving a gift certificate away. I’ll be choosing a winner on April 28th at 8 PM EST.

The Story Of The NARS Lip Pencil That I Wore For 2 Weeks Straight

My morning schedule is absolute madness. It isn’t even funny. Going back to work after maternity leave has had its challenges and Esposo and I are still trying to handle them efficiently, but dude…how do people do it? Getting myself and a baby ready for the day is tough enough but add in getting breakfast, lunch, washing bottles, pumping and trying not to forget anything and it’s like…whoa. By 7am I feel like I’ve already done enough for the day.

That said, when it comes to beautifying, I have a good 5-7 minutes to get it together. And even that’s pushing it. We all know how much I love a good lip and usually achieve one by pullin’ out a lipliner and lipstick but come on, y’all…ain’t nobody got time for all that. Fo reals.

Instead, I’ve been having a love affair with 2 of these new NARS Satin lip pencils.

NARS Satin Lip Pencils

Oh my, are they heavenly. I mean, my gooooodness…

And I know what you’re thinking, “B, it’s just ANOTHER lip pencil to hit the market. What’s the big deal?” Yah. I said the same thing. I don’t know, y’all. Except for the fact that these aren’t self-sharpening (ugh, hate that), these are actually better than many of the pencils that I’ve tried. And I’ve tried a lot.

NARS Satin Lip pencils swatches

For one these babies are nice and hydrating. I still like to put down a base of a balm before application but it’s great that I don’t have to worry about my lips being drier than the Sahara. And the color intensity is just well, intense!

Luxembourg is described as a watermelon and it’s just beautiful! ‘Scuse my imperfect application. Please don’t let it overshadow the awesome that is Luxembourg.

NARS Luxembourg

I could seriously wear this lipstick daily. Oh wait. I did wear it 2 weeks in a row. Womp.

NARS Luxembourg on lips

And then there’s Palais Royal, a stunning Sangria…

NARS Palais Royal

I know, right?

NARS Palais Royal on lips

I’m pretty much obsessed with these and I love how they leave a bit of stain behind. So yes, they will fade over time but not for a very long time. And since it’s a pencil, I’m able to line my lips, apply and then toss in my purse all under 2 minutes.

You done well, NARSy. You done well.

The Beauty Basics

Price: $25/pencil
Availability: At Sephora.com, NARS.com and at Sephora counters
Limited Edition?: Nope
Do I recommend?: Hecks yah! I mean, they aren’t cheap but c’mon, when has NARS ever been cheap? If you’re okay with splurging, I think you’ll really like these. They are nice and as hydrating as lip pencils can be. Plus, the color selection is just really nice. You’ll definitely find something that suits you.

3 Reasons Why Using Natural Skin Care Products Can Transform Your Skin

DSC_7940

As a beauty blogger, I like to review allll kinds of products; from the indie brands to the huge well known brands and everyone in between. But can I be honest? I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to the products that I use daily. If you check my medicine cabinet, you’ll probably see me usin’ some natural brand or all natural product. It’s just how I roll and how I’ve been rollin’ for years. Of course, I’m not above resorting to non-natural products either. I am of the belief that you have to use what works for YOU. And honey, I’ve come to find out that natural just works. And here’s why.

Sometimes less is more. I’ve come across some amazing moisturizers that contain all kinds of ingredients that promise to transform my skin. But you know what I also find transforming? Coconut oil. It’s cheap, easy to find and doesn’t make all of these promises about what it’ll do to my skin. It’s simple and sometimes simplifying our skincare routines without a ton of added ingredients is what we need.

Natural ingredients have healing properties. Don’t believe me? Buy yourself a bottle of tea tree oil and dab a bit of it on a pimple. I’ve tried my fair share of pimple poppin’ creams, gels and masks and nothing works as well as tea tree oil. I can say the same thing about baking soda, lavender oil and jojoba oil. I’ve never come across a commercial product that not only feels good on my skin but treats it gently too.

Natural ingredients can be gentler to use on problematic skin. Of course this isn’t the case for everyone but as an acne sufferer and with me constantly battling ezcema, I’ve found more success with products that contain natural ingredients than anything else. Coincidence? I think not. Sometimes nature knows best.

Are you a fan of natural skincare products or are you open to using anything? Check out http://www.betterskintoday.com for a wide range of all natural skincare products.
