Suzy Sew Crafty Whips Up An Amazing Gift!

Elle has gone to 3 birthday parties this summer. The kid is more popular than me which I’m finding both hilarious and…sad. Because we didn’t have a 1st birthday party for our girl (we plan to do parties when Elle is older), I am always stumped on what to get these wee babes. I’m not big on buying toys because…really? Don’t they have enough of those? They grow out of clothes quickly and they are too young for the really fun things. I usually opt for books because I feel that’s something that can grow with them but giving a book isn’t really a personal gift. I’ve been trying to do better and wanting to do more personalized gifts and that’s when I knew to reach out to the talented Suzy over at Suzy Sew Crafty.

I’ve always wanted to be the woman that can knit, sew and create beautiful pieces with my hands. And yeah no. I can’t. But Suzy? Whoooa! She is the Embroidery Genius of Central Florida. This wife and mom of 3 works from home in her state-of-the-art studio (no seriously…it’s amazing!) and cranks out everything from fun shirts and bodysuits for the little ones celebrating birthdays to hand towels and beautiful designs for the grownups in your family.

More about what she whipped up for Beauty by Cat’s little one…

Cat told me that her son Sebastian was a huge lover of trucks so I thought it would be very cool to get him a hoodie towel that he could use for years. I told this to Suzy and she came up with the idea of a dump truck that could dump out Sebastian’s name. Um…wow!

IMG_1557

I would have never thought of this. But you see…this is why I deal with pros. And within days, I picked up this gorgeous towel that, I thought, was the perfect usable and memorable gift for a sweet little boy who I’ve known since birth.

Suzy also does…

  • Custom embroidery/appliqué clothes (including onesies, shirts, dresses, aprons etc.)
  • Custom embroidered home decor (including towels, robes, pillows, shams, Christmas stockings, etc.)
  • Monograms (including men’s ties, golf towels, polo shirts, wedding favors, etc.)
  • Nautical accessories (including flags, personalized fishing shirts, caps, towels)
  • Logos (embroidering logos on any apparel or clothing)

I’ve got a list of things I’m going to have her make. Some hand towels, t-shirts with Clumps logo on it, Christmas stockings, wedding gifts – the list goes on and on. I also have a giveaway coming up in the next month or so. Stay tuned but in the meantime, swing by her site and let Suzy know that Brittany sent you.

Disclosure: This towel was gifted to me in exchange of a blog post. Suzy is a personal friend of mine and we are big believers in the bartering system. But because I believe in supporting my local entrepreneurs, I will definitely be making purchases from her to support her flourishing business.

JOHNSON’S Baby Has Some Incredible News

IMG_1668

One of world’s favorite baby brands has been doing some serious work. JOHNSON’s Baby has recently reformulated many of their products. And why you ask? Because the consumer asked them to. What sounds like a simple request is really heavily involved and detailed. Remember when I told you about my visit to the headquarters in February? It was there where I got a chance to meet with some of the chemists and marketing professionals behind the brand. They were so candid and honest with us bloggers as they talked about how challenging it was to reformulate some of their most popular products.

But they felt like they had to do it. Because the consumer asked them to.

And before you get all “What GOOD! How hard is it to remove an ingredient or two or 10?” on me, think about your favorite skincare product. You use it because you love it, right? You like the way it feels and the way it performs on your skin. You’ve been using it for a while because it is consistent and you can always depend on its efficacy. You would flip if the formula changed, wouldn’t you? Especially if the scent was different or if wasn’t as moisturizing. JOHNSON’s Baby had the daunting task of reformulating their products without changing the consumer’s experience. Wow. Far from easy. But they did it.

IMG_2886
Because the consumer asked them to. They reformulated the following products:

o JOHNSON’S® Baby HEAD-TO-TOE® Wash
o JOHNSON’S® Baby Lotion
o JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo
o JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo & Conditioner for Thick and Curly Hair
o JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo & Conditioner for Thin and Straight Hair
o JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo with Calming Lavender
o JOHNSON’S® Baby Soothing Vapor Baby Bath

Exciting, right? It’s a big deal and I can’t wait to see what loyal JOHNSON’S Baby fans are thinking about the products and if they can detect a change. Having played around with them, I can guarantee you that I haven’t noticed anything different. Which is a good, thing, right?

In honor of the new changes, JOHNSON’S Baby put together a lovely video that acts as an open letter to moms showing scientists and their families coming together to build an origami stork mobile, symbolizing the delivery of our promise. So sweet.

Ya gotta love a brand that actually listens. Check out the video and let me know what you think!

If you could only wear one nail color for Fall 2014, which shade would it be?

B says, “China Glaze’s Community. It’s a beautiful brown that matches my skin!”

What about you?

See you next week!

Oh Laura Mercier…will you marry me?

Okay, I’m kidding. I’m not sure Esposo would be okay with me running away to marry one of the world’s most talented makeup artists. He doesn’t understand my love for all things Laura Mercier. I have yet to try a product that I didn’t like. Everything that has graced my skin has been sheer…love. I received the Secret Camouflage ($34) and Tinted Moisturizer ($43) for review and they have permament residency in my Beauty Headquarters. AKA the bathroom.

Laura Mercier

I won’t ramble too much about these in this post since I’ve done a video, but these products are fantastic. The Secret Camouflage has an oil-free formula that plays nicely even in this very hot weather.

Laura Mercier Secret Camoflauge

While I think the shade I got is too dark (I have SC-7), it really does blend nicely to conceal any dark spots and the lighter shade works well under my eyes. However, I think for better coverage under the eyes, I should been aiming for the next shade down. This is okay because there are 8 shades to pick from. Because remember, Laura Mercier likes to put out shades for various skintones. And then there’s the tinted moisturizer…

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

I feel like I’ve used this before (maybe in a former life) but wow wow. I am a lover of light coverage and this tinted moisturizer gives me that plus SPF 20. Pop on over to the video to get an idea of how I use these products and how nicely they work on my skin.

Have you tried anything from Laura Mercier? Any favorites?

Haughty Cosmetics on Gloss 48!

I have discovered a beauty website that may have you spending all of your money, girls. In which case, I apologize in advance. But I think you’ll thank me for it later. Gloss48 is unique in that it caters to the indie brands and gives us a one-stop shop for all things indie. After all, while the bigger brands may be the ones that catch our eyes first, indie brands are often the innovators of many techniques and formulas. Oh, but the best news is Gloss48 not only showcases brands that you may not have heard about, but they offer them to you for discounted prices! That way, you can try some new brands without going into debt. Heyyyy!!!

They so graciously gave me the opportunity to test drive the brand Haughty Cosmetics.

Haughty Cosmetics

Never heard of them? I hadn’t either, but hello…this is why Gloss48 exists. Let’s do a quick run through of these products so that you can quickly move on and get your purchase on. The current star of the Haughty Cosmetics show are their Natural Glow Hands Free Soft Cheek Colors…

Haughty

Say that 3 times fast! So I know this isn’t anything new (or is it?) but dang, these are cool! And so ideal for travel. These squeezable blush tubes are intended to be applied directly to the cheeks and the result is, well…blushed cheeks! This is the kind of product that you really have to play around with before you use it flawlessly. A little goes a long way and if you aren’t careful, you may end up with clown cheeks. Ask me how I know. Still, though, I am such a fan for this. I think it’ll be a great fit for when it gets cooler but I love that when you apply it, it doesn’t budge. It also layers very nicely on top of foundations and powders.

Haughty Cosmetics gloss

And what’s a makeup line without lip gloss? Haughty Cosmetics is giving us more than 10 color options to choose from and I think there’s a reason why they call it Perfect Finish Lip Gloss. It’s really is a perfect gloss. Sweet packaging, nice and even consistency and a muted fragrance and taste, the shade Bloom, I found worked really well against my warm skin. It doesn’t have a sticky and tacky feel to it and applies smoothly and will likely last you a few hours or so on the lips.

Haughty Cosmetics gloss swatch

It’s one of the more moisturizing glosses that I’ve tried and I am just big fan of the bright orchid that is Bloom. Plus, 50% of this product’s purchases go towards fighting domestic violence against women.

Oooh, and would you look at their eye shadow palettes? Covered in fuzzy velvety goodness, the Impress palette is perfect for my girls who love their smokey eyes. This palette has totally inspired me to start rocking more smokey eyes (y’know…when I’m not at work or getting beat up by a toddler) and I’m thinking it’ll be easy with how nice these shadows are. I wouldn’t say they are the most pigmented shadows I’ve ever seen, but that’s okay. I don’t always need a blast of color with one swatch.

I think eyeshadow lovers will appreciate the diverse formulas that this palette is giving us. From the matte, to the frost and shimmers, they will really work very well for every one. Can’t wait to put this baby to use!

Ooooh, and guess what? Haughty Cosmetics is currently on sale for a limited time!

Urban Decay’s Naked 2 Basics…is it for the brown girls?

Urban Decay’s Naked 2  Basics palette is here and while I intentionally got excited about it, I’m wondering it will be a great fit for us dark brown girls.

UD Naked Basics 2

“OMG B…who cares?! Can’t you just be happy that UD is giving us a new palette?”

Um yah. I am happy. But I’ll be less happy if I can’t rock it. Just sayin’. I really loved the original Naked Basics palette. In fact, I rediscovered it last week when a friend was visiting and…I let her borrow it.

Anyone have any idea how I can nicely say “Yo chick…give me that palette back!”?

Urban Decay’s lovers wanted MOAR when it came to Naked Basics and so UD has given it to us with cooler hues. These taupe-hued matte eye shadows have never been before so I am excited to get a closer look at them. I’ll admit it, I was a bit disappointed to hear that they were cool, but I don’t know…maaaaaybe they can work for us dark brown girls? I’ll have to see it in person before I judge it.

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2

Retailing for $27 just like its predecessor, I wonder how well Naked 2 Basics will do. We’ll see what the verdict is. I’m thinking more fans will appreciate the versatility of the original better, but time will tell. If you’re ready to ‘gon and purchase it, you can do so here.

What say you? Have you tried the original Naked Basics? And did you like it? Will you be scooping up the sequel?

Makeup Wars: The $30 Face

I’ve always prided myself on being the makeup lover who doesn’t HAVE to use higher-end cosmetics to achieve beautiful looks. I am very frugal with my money by nature and even when I have it, I don’t know…I don’t always feel inclined to spend a crazy amount of it on something disposable like…cosmetics. Which, I know, sounds crazy but I’ve tried to remain sensible in my older years.

Plowing through debt will do that to you.

That said, doing a makeup look and only using products that cost less than $30 was easy for me.

30 dollar face

But for the record, I’m omitting powders, primers and liners for the total cost of this face, mkay? The only way I would be able to include those and keep the face under $30 is if I rocked all Wet ‘n Wild and e.l.f every thang. And as much as I love those brands, I wanted to spice it up a bit for ya’ll. And so I used these products to achieve a pretty nice look.

For the eyes, I used this sweet Limited Edition eye shadow palette from Wet ‘n Wild…

Wet n Wild eyeshadow palette

This sat in my “To Review” pile for the longest and I hate that I am just now pulling it out. That orange is fantastic and I would have loved for it to POP a bit more on my skin, but hey…we can’t have it all now, can we? There’s that pretty Sleek Bronze Block that I scooped up from Sleek a few weeks back.

Sleek Bronze Brick

And NYX’s Stacked mascara…

NYX mascara

Also, featured in its blurry goodness is COVERGIRL’s Smoochies in Tru Love. It’s a frosty mauve. I’ve been into frosts these days. Totally tapping into my high school years.

And the look…

Orange eyeshadow on brown skin
Clumps of Mascara

Let this be a lesson to you, girls. You don’t HAVE to spend a ton of money on makeup to achieve really nice looks. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I will still lust after things I can’t afford but it’s good to know that even after 7 years of blogging, I can still appreciate the drugstore babies.

Would you be able to crank out a look using products that totaled up to $30?

Check out what my fellow MU girls did…
