Newest Stuff from LUSH

It’s been a quick minute since I’ve dabbled in some LUSH stuff so why not start the year off featuring one of my favorite brands? This go ’round I am highlighting some of their super cool Emotional Brilliance cosmetics, a chunk of smell-good soap and one of their new lip scrubs.

DSC_4859

Let’s start with the soap first. His name is Mr. Punch…

DSC_4926

A cute little sucker, isn’t he? Let’s run the stats on him…

Price:$6.95 for 3.5 oz
Availability: In LUSH stores and online.
What LUSH says: When you turn it upside-down, this soap looks like a delicious bowl of punch with fruit floating in it. We were inspired to make a fruity, tropical, boozy punch scent for this soap, and we did so with juniper berry oil, blackcurrant absolute, lime oil and a splash of gin. That’ll cheer you up on dark winter mornings! (source)

Now we all know that I’m not a fan of super fragrant soaps and I was so glad to know that this one is subtle. It’s got a nice and fruity smell but is indeed quite reminiscent of punch. I can smell every bit of the lime and blackcurrant. The smell dissipates quickly after lathering up but it’s just so adorable to look at. I’ve got it in my guest bathroom just because it’s THAT cute and I love how it seems to double as an air freshener.

Next up is the yummy Popcorn Lip Scrub

DSC_4910

DSC_4925

Price: $8.95 for 0.8 oz
Availability: LUSH stores and online.
What LUSH says: Mmm! A simply scrumptious sugar and salt lip scrub for the holidays. We haven’t been able to keep our hands off this one. Lips can get particularly dry and flakey in winter weather, so it’s especially important to exfoliate. Use this one and keep your lips sweet, smooth and tasty all season long. The sweet and slightly salty popcorn flavor will make you want to lick this scrub right off your lips; but that’s okay, we do it too! (source)

I’ve featured LUSH’s lip scrubs before (here and here) but I so didn’t know that they had a popcorn version of this awesome scrub. And seriously, y’all…it really does taste like popcorn. Like all of LUSH’s lip scrubs, this one is total edible. It’s salty and feels so divine on the lips. Honestly, I could stash a ton of these and still never get enough. I think this is limited edition so better snag it before they run out!

And then there are LUSH’s new kids on the block, their Emotional Brillance Liquid Lipsticks…

DSC_4884

Price: $18.95/ea
Availability: LUSH stores and online.
What LUSH says: Grab some Glamorous or prepare for a Passionate smooch with LUSH’s patent pending liquid lip formula. Super softening Ultrabalm is the base, which is a simple blend of organic jojoba oil, candelilla wax and rose wax. Lips will be brilliantly coloured and left soft, smooth and deeply moisturized. (per press release)

These are interesting. For one, while the packaging is unique and flows with the LUSH concept, I’m not sure how practical they are as the applicator only allows you to go straight down in the bottle.

DSC_4874

Consistency-wise, they were a bit on the grainy side, have nice pigmentation and provide more moisture than the average lip product. Your best bet is to exfoliate those lippies before use though, because these tend to amplify cracks, splits and lines in lips. Each shade is actually an “emotion”.

Glamorous is a bubblegum pink.

DSC_4869

Strong is a blood orange.

DSC_4878

Confident is a deep plum.

DSC_4879

DSC_4898

These wear well and I found Confident to be the most suitable for me.

DSC_4906

So I don’t know – I’m still on the fence about thgese. I think they are darling but a bit overpriced. They are  fun and LUSH has a ton of shades that I think will suit both tame color lovers and the adventurous alike.

Whatcha think? Have you tried any of the Emotional Brillance cosmetics? And how awesome is that edible popcorn scrub?

10 Reasons Why 2012 rocked

DSC_0452

If you ever wanna know just every characteristic about me, read the definition of a Capricorn. I’m not even lyin’. Every bit of those horoscope descriptions describe me to a tee. It’s weird. They say that Capricorns have the tendency to be negative and yeah, I can definitely a be “glass is half full” type person every now and then but when it comes to analyzing an entire year, I could never label an entire year as BAD.

Seriously – how can people say things like “2012 sucked”? Wait. The ENTIRE year sucked? Every minute? Every day? Every month? What about that whole “You woke up every day.”-thing. Doesn’t that matter?  Yeah. I don’t get it. Life is precious and even if it isn’t perfect, I value it. And I appreciate it because I know in a split second it could be gone.

So here’s why 2012 rocked for me…

 I was physically active

Before I got pregnant, I was at the gym 4-5 times a week. I was running without stopping, lifting 30 lb weights and yoga-ifying my life. I’m not sure how much weight I lost but I just FELT good. 2013 will bring new challenges with my post-baby body but I can’t wait to get active again and train for a 5K and maybe even a 10K.

Esposo and I moved into our own place.

We didn’t do that whole shacking up thing before we got married (because I’m old-fashioned like that) so it was tough having to consolidate everything and learn how to live together. But hey, I think we’re doing okay now. What I really mean is: As long as the house is immaculately  clean at all times, Esposo gets to live.

I held 4 ambassador positions.

Being a blogger isn’t enough for me. I’ve invested 5 years in this business and want to be considered an authority in the beauty arena and the highest level of that (at least in my book) is being asked to directly represent a brand. It’s an honor and one that I don’t take lightly.

I got pregnant.

I always had these “What if I can’t get pregnant?” fears and my gynecologist’s “Get knocked up before 30 or else…” scare tactics did nothing to ease those fears. Baby Clumps’ existence is just a miracle and I am so blessed to be her mommy. Some women dream about being a mom. Others could care less. I’ve always sat comfortably in the middle but I think I am the type of woman that Baby Clumps can be proud of.

I landed on 2 beauty in-store displays in Walgreens and Target.

Seeing my name and picture online is cool. But seeing it IN a store is nothing short of amazing.

I was financially savvy.

I not only paid off 1 credit card but consolidated another and I’m on a road to become debt-free. I cut my spending tremendously. I may have spent under $200 on random things for myself. I’ll probably be paying Sallie Mae forever though. Ugh. Whatever.

My marriage flourished.

Okay, we’re not perfect. We argue but I promise you – we’ve never been mad at each other for more than an hour. We’re learning how to be better people and a better couple. It’s been a tough road but it has been so so sooooo fun.

I was never bored.

The last time I was bored, I was like…7 years old. 2012 had me crazy productive. I probably worked a bit TOO much but I have the type of personality where if I’m not swamped in work, I feel inadequate.

I spoke at The Makeup Show Orlando.

That was cool stuff. It wasn’t my first speaking engagement but it was pretty darn cool to speak about what I love most in the city that I live in.

I tried.

Which is all anyone can do in life, right? I put my best foot forward in several areas of my life and even if things didn’t turn out the way I wanted them to, I can go to bed tonight and know that…I tried.

2013 will be better though. Because I said so. Thanks for hangin’ out with me this year. Let’s reconvene in 2013, uh?

Oh…and what made your 2012 awesome? Please brag about your awesomeness.

Mascara Monday: Clarins Instant Definition mascara

DSC_3843

Yay for Clarins! This is my first time reviewing the brand on Clumps of Mascara. Woo hoo! It’s a shame really. I mean, I’ve know about Clarins forever and it’s a shame that I am just now reviewing one of their mascaras. A gal pal of mine has been trying to peep me to their products for years and well, years later…here I am. I’ve always known that Clarins rocked in the skincare department but just how awesome are their mascaras? Well, let’s seeeeee.

DSC_3840

Price: $24 at department stores or ClarinsUSA.com.
Packaging (brush wand): 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What It Claims: “A dual-purpose, ultra-volume, intense colour mascara with a rich formula that enhances the beauty of all types of lashes.” (source)

The Truth: What a very nice mascara!

What I Loved About It: The wand is super cool. I’ve never seen anything like it.

What I Didn’t Like: It’s a heavy mascara so a good 2 coats should do the trick.

Overall: Well well wellllll. Check you out, Clarins! Is anyone familiar with this brand? Tried any of their skincare products or cosmetics? I’m late to the game with this one but that’s okay. Considering I had a great experience with one of their mascaras, I’m excited to try out more of their products. First off, this wand is niiiiiice. Check this out:

DSC_3850

I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s a useful wand for both lengthening, volumizing and getting those lower lashes. At first glance, it looks a bit intimidating but I found it to work really well. The tip of the wand automatically coats those inner lashes so really it’s like the most effortless mascara wand I’ve ever come across. I like it. It’s a plastic wand and I wish all mascara wands were like this.

Okay, I’m exaggerating but it is really one of the best wands I’ve come across. It’s efficient and has multiple uses. I can get down with that.

Formula-wise, it’s a lot like most higher-end mascaras. It was a bit on the thicker side but not in a bad way. In my experience, I’ve found that a lot of higher-end mascaras have heavier formulas. In a way, it’s a good thing because you end up with dark and lush lashes after only 1 coat. But then you’ve got to deal with clumping and sometimes heavier formulas lead to flakiness. Which sucks. BUT, I am excited to say that I didn’t experience any flaking with Clarins Instant Definition mascara. Everything about it rocked. I did peep a little clumpiness coming on around the second coat but nothing that made me freak out. In fact, I could easily get away with 1 coat of this mascara. It also has a superb wear time. Meaning, I can put it on at 7am and by 7pm, my lashes are still looking pretty awesome. Which is unheard of for many mascaras.

So what’s to hate? Not much. The wand rocks. The lengthening and volumizing power is there. It lasts for hours at a time. It only needs 1 coat to be effective. For best results, I recommend stopping after 2 coats. But even if you want to be a rebel and push it to 3, while you may end up with a few clumps, you’ll have even darker and more volumized lashes.

Do I recommend it?: Absolutely! It’s a darn good higher-end mascara.

Any Clarins lovers in the house? How lame is it that I am just now trying out this brand?

Top Beauty Finds of 2012

You knew it was comin’. I’ll save my whole spiel about “OMG, I can’t believe it’s already almost 2013″ and whatnot and just get right down to the nitty gritty.

Okay, wait. I lied. Seriously though – can y’all believe how quickly 2012 flew by? I mean, dang! Okay okay…here are some of my top  beauty finds of 2012. Keep in mind that these aren’t ALL of them. I’m far too lazy to list them all. Hey! I’m bein’ honest. Something you can continue to expect in 2013. Hollerrrrrrr.

Hereeeee we goooo….

Top Mascaras

So in this post I listed 6 of my favorite mascaras. Not included in that list are the following…

  • CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher mascara – Because how many mascaras don’t kill your lashes after you’ve applied a good 3 coats to them? Not many. We’ve seen a lot of Lash Blast mascaras but I’m happy to say that this one really doesn’t clump.

Top Nail Polish Brands/Collections

Piccies

  • butter LONDON – I was head over heels in love with this nail polish brand this year. Why? They were always releasing beautiful nail polishes that didn’t look like other polishes that I owned. At $14 a bottle, they are a bit on the higher-end side of nail polishes but who cares. We all need a hobby and one of mine is collection bL polishes until I die. Yep.
  • Cult Nails Coco’s Untamed collection – Oooh boy, I couldn’t get enough of this collection either. Even more impressive is that a 13-year old came up with all of these gorgeous shades. Yuuuup.

Top Lippies

  • I listed 4 of my favorite lippies here. Included in that list is the ever so awesome Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter.

 Top Skincare Products

  • Check out this list of 7 skincare products that rocked my world.
  • Eucerin Skin Calming Dry Skin Body Wash – It’s far from paraben-free and contains more ingredients than I like my skincare products to have but this has been the only body wash that not only soothes but keeps my eczema at bay.
  • Josie Maran skincare products – Okay, I’m cheating here because I haven’t really done a post for her products yet but I’ve been using them for weeks now and I am obsessed. Ob.sessed. Josie Maran drops argan oil in all of her products and I’ve been slathering everything from her hair oil, sunscreen and whipped argan butter allllll over.
  • Clarisonic Aria – This is another product that I haven’t reviewed (or tried) but I plan on getting my hands on it in 2013. I’m just so in love with this version of the awesome Clarisonic face brush that I just HAVE to have it.

Best in Foundations

  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Foundation – Oh geez, I love this stuff. I am actually at the bottom of my first bottle and I am thisclose to buying another. This foundation actually turned me into liking foundation. Which says a lot.

I totally didn’t even try to do a “Best in Eyes”. There were just too many products to choose from. Yeah, I know. I suck.

What were some of your favorite products in 2012?

Lilly Brush – The coolest lint brush in town

LillyBrush3

Wellllls, there’s a first time for everything and I never thought I’d be reviewing a lint brush on my beauty blog. But whatev. My goal is to share awesome stuff that I come across and doggone it, if it happens to be a lint brush then so be it.

So about this lint brush…

LillyBrush4

It’s pretty freaking awesome, y’all. I’m not even playing. It obviously HAS to be good in order for me to write an entire post about it. I’ve decided to be a bit of a grown-up and take better care of my laundry. I only use homemade or all-natural detergents (mainly due to my skin allergies) and I stopped using dryer sheets. I want my clothes to continue to look good after 5 washes and let’s face it, sometimes shirts ‘n stuff go south after only one wash.

Case in point…

LillyBrush2

I’ve only worn this shirt a good 5 times or so and there’s no reason why it should be all fuzzy wuzzy already. The good ole’ Lilly Brush is saving the day. Keep your eyes on the gray stripe.

Lilly Brush

I know, right? It’s like magic yo. There’s a bajillion lint brushes on the market so what makes Lily Brush different? Well, for one it’s portable. I can toss this in my purse or luggage and be on my merry way. I also love that it’s effective at removing pet hair. My dog (you know…the one that hates me) is white and while she doesn’t shed much, I’ll still spot a white hair on my black dress pants every now and then.

POW. Gone. And I find that it’s easier to remove the fuzzy wuzzy than when I use an actual sticky lint brush or razor. Oh. And that whole removing lint using a razor idea is bad because over time it seems to just make your clothes thinner. Not cool, bro. Lilly Brush works on a number of fabrics and can easily be cleaned with a simple rinse of water.

LillyBrush5

I know. You’re impressed. And you’re probably all like, “This is such a random post, B but I totally need this.”

Cost: $12.99
Where To Buy: Either online here or at select retailers.

Admit it. You think the Lilly Brush is pretty cool, uh?

My newest obsession: Josie Maran Argan products

It takes a lot for a skincare brand to woo me. I am so beyond picky that it’s not even funny. I’m serious. Between all of my chronic conditions and issues (you know, like not being able to handle strong fragrances), I’m like the worst person in the world to please when it comes to skincare. But Josie Maran? ZOMG!

DSC_4289

First of all, why haven’t I heard of this brand? It has been sold at Sephora forever and a day and yet I’ve never made attempts to dabble into. This is more of a introduction to the brand. I’ll be back with formal reviews. I’m just so overwhelmingly excited to have come across Josie that I just, I just…I could seriously name my first child Josie.

DSC_4255

Okay, I’m kidding. Not really though because Josie is actually an adorable name. So anyway, a while back Sephora was selling a Josie Maran Moroccan Bazaar Argan Skin & Hair Bestsellers kit. It’s not at Sephora anymore, but you can get it from Amazon through Josie Maran. Quick tidbits about the brand:

-Cruelty-free
-Paraben-free
-Free of synthetic dyes
-Quality packaging…most are housed in glass bottles
-Higher-end brand with a conscience

Let’s just do a quick run through of what came inside…

Whipped Argan Oil in Vanilla Apricot

DSC_4263

DSC_4264

Sweet, decadent, gently fragranced and moisturizing. This stuff is such a pleasure to use.

100% Pure Argan Oil

DSC_4268

DSC_4269

The star of the show. I’ve been known to use this oil everywhere; for face, body, hair and nails. It’s such a great oil because it isn’t super greasy but still settles into the skin nicely.

Argan Oil Daily Moisturizer SPF 40

DSC_4272

DSC_4274

It’s my current moisturizer and it’s wonderful. It doesn’t leave a white cast over my skin and doesn’t feel heavy either.

Argan Oil Hair Serum

DSC_4277

I can’t believe I actually fell for this. I choose my hair products wisely and would have never looked at this (because I would assume that it wasn’t made for my hair type) but this serum has all natural fragrances and sinks into my locs nicely.

Argan Cleansing Oil

DSC_4282

Haven’t actually given this a spin yet so only time will tell how great it is. I’ve got high hopes!

Argan Balm

DSC_4294

A fragrance-free and solid version of the oil. What’s to hate about this. It feels just as great as the oil and I’ve been loving it on my lips.

The dream team…

DSC_4295

You can get this set here for $69.99 but stay tuned, I’ll be back with a closer look of some of these products. All I know is Josie Maran = LOVE. I have seen the light, y’all.

Amor de Lacquer: Diosa nail polishes

A few months ago, I was asked to be a be a featured Diosa. What’s a Diosa? She’s a woman in her 20’s or 30’s who inspires her peers and the girls in their lives who are in need of positive role models. The vision comes from Diana, a New York City native who wanted to create a brand of nail polishes that could also tell a story. You can learn more about Diana here. She’s pretty awesome. I wanted to show off some of the pretty Diosa polishes. If you love supporting indie nail polish brands, I think you’ll love this one.

Piccies

See what I mean?

DSC_1707-001

Puff Pastry is a super sheer jelly that would probably work best on an American manicure. I like it by itself though. Because it’s so sheer, it’ll take a good 3 coats to achieve some kind of opaque finish.

DSC_1716-001

Dawn Over Provence is a pale lavender. It’s got a dusty finish and while it looks great on solo, it’ll really shine with some kind of sparkle or glitter on top.

DSC_1722

Dime Piece is a grey. Can’t go wrong with grey nail polishes!

DSC_1729

Bali Blaze is a super bright red that leans more on the orange side. It’s goooorgeous.

DSC_1723-001

DSC_1731-001

Somethin’ Extra is a holographic glitter. It’s a stunner!

DSC_1742-001

Fuchsia Plans photographs funky but this is a gorgeous fuchsia. It dries down to a semi-matte finish. Of course a top coat will make it glossy but I actually really like the semi-matte finish.

DSC_1748-001

I Sea You is a bright blue that reminds me a lot of Nubar’s Blueberry nail polish. Which happens to be my favorite blue nail polish evahhhh! I Sea You is a close second. And as beautiful as it is, I love that it doesn’t stain the nails. Woot!

DSC_1759-001

Purple Reign is a dark purple polish that actually LOOKS purple on the nails instead of black. I love when this happens!

Diosa nail polishes apply beautifully. Some of the shades were a bit on the watery side (namely Puff Pastry and Dime Piece) so thin and even coats are the best way to apply these polishes. I’m lovin’ these inaugural shades. Diosa nails officially launched in July 2012 and I think this is a great intro to the nail polish world. You can buy these babies for $8 online.

Oh! And check out my Diosa feature here.
