FOTD Friday: Fresh Green Mix (pic heavy!)

Ohhh la laaaa, thanks Jaimie for my new FOTD Friday banner. It is faaaab! FOTD Friday is all about creativity, comparing dupes and stepping outside of the box when it comes to color. Or sometimes we explore the beauty of natural looks. Today's FOTD was inspired by reader Jamila who sent me her thoughts on MAC's Fresh Green Mix Mineralized eyeshadow from the ElectroFlash collection.

I have seen these beauties in person but haven't been compelled to buy anything since I am on this serious "it can be duped" phase. But Jamila may change my mind. I tried to duplicate her beautiful FOTD. She used (all MAC unless otherwise noted):

Pharaoh PP as base.
Fresh Green Mix on lid, the darker side in the crease and outer 1/3
Climate Blue (just a bit) in the crease and outer 1/3
Maybelline Dream Mousse shadow in Vanilla Veil to highlight.
MAC liquidlast in Electrolady to line (top and bottom)
Violet Pigment on top of Elctrolady

My Foundation and blush are some frankens that I put together.

NYX Black Label Lipstick Diva with Korres Pomegranate Lip butter over it.

Beautiful uh? So here is the quad that I used...

Ohh....and here's the pobre Eyepopping eyeshadow in the jacked up shadows palettes.

And then the diagram....

And then the look...

Looks like I went a little above my crease on the left eye. Urrgghhh, Clumps of Mascara strikes again. Hehehe...

I used (all MAC unless otherwise noted):
Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer
Milani Garden Mist eyeshadow
True Chartreuse pigment
Swimming
Humid
Carbon
Clinique's Almost Peach (highlight...love this color!)
Entremauve pigment (for purple lining)--forgot to add it on my waterline.

....that lippie is by NYC but the name rubbed off. I adore that color!

So how did I do? I think my look is a little more vibrant than J's. But I'm thinking it's because I used all of my shadows and pigments wet. I still think there are some dimensions to that Fresh Water Mix mineralized shadow that I would like to explore. Jamila has been nice enough to provide some swatch comparisons for us. Yaaaay! Check them out here.

Anyone else own it? Any must haves that you think I should take a look at in the Electro Flash collection?

It's Friiiiiiiiday!!! I hope that yall are off to a good one!!

FOTD Friday: Playing with bright colors

More like "eye of the day". And I really mean only ONE eye. HA! A friend of mine asked me about doing a "tropical" eye. She was convinced that darker skinned folx could not pull off wearing multiple BRIGHT colors on their lids. Aside from giving me some ideas for the "But Black Women Can't" series, she also inspired me to play around in pigments. So here is what I came up with.

BASE:
UDPP
....if I were going to wear this OUTSIDE of the house, I probably would have applied another base like a MAC Paint or Paintpot....just for extra protection against creasing.

LID COLORS:
<--red--> NARS Emmanuel and MAC's Mi'Lady (the red part, of course)
<--orange--> MAC Firespot and MAC Off the Radar pigment
<--yellow--> MAC Bright Sunshine and MAC Golden Lemon pigment
<--green--> Milani green and MAC Humid

...funky brows. Has it been 2 weeks yet?

A ton of colors, uh? I found that applying an eyeshadow and THEN a pigment gave me greater color payoff. I blended like mad with MAC Vanilla pigment. Because it has yellow undertones, it blended like a dream with my red, orange and yellow...which also had yellow undertones. Vanilla pigment is seriously the best product of my life!!!

I too was afraid of color because I thought it would make me look "clown-ish", but I think the trick is how far UP you take your eyeshadow. My eyeshadow neeeever goes up beyond my crease. Except, of course my highlight. I keep all of the "lid" colors right on the lid. But I have have a weird eye shape in that I have a loooot of space between my lower lashline and lid so this is what works for me.

Find what works for you too and you won't have to worry about looking Bobo.

*red nose honk hoooonk*

Love you, beautiful people. Have a wonderful Fridayyyyy!!

FOTD Friday: A Fun Look

Hi gorgeous folx!

I got an email from a lovely reader saying that I don't do many FOTDs anymore and haven't done a bold look in a very long time. Haven't really dove in that FOTD Friday series much, uh?

Yeeep, she's right. I actually don't dab into make-up that much these days. I know, I know, tragedy...but I'm not really down to wearin' a ton of stuff. But she inspired me to do a blue/green look. So I pulled out some bright make-up and sat down to watch my show.

Hands down my favorite show ever. Got all 4 seasons on DVD and would rather watch this every day than the stuff on regular cable. Anywho....got to gigglin' with Martin and came up with this craziness.

I purposely didn't blend the colors together. I wanted each one to be stark and be bold on its own. If that really makes any sense.

I even did a Tina Turner hair look. HA!

Yes yall....I am a mess.

Here's what I used:

FACE:
Not a thing

EYES (colors):
Bamboo Paint
Yellow Sunshine e/s
Wondergrass e/s
Eyepopping e/s
Submarine e/s
Thunder e/s

Lips:
Some really pretty Holiday Lustreglass.

....nothin' to brag about but I can dig it. It was fun to play around in eye make-up again. Happy Friiiiiiday!

FOTD Friday

Welcome to Clumps of Mascara's first installment of FOTD Friday! Aside for bringing some color to my traincase via the beautiful pink packaging, Heatherette has also inspired me to start playing around with pigments again. It has been quite awhile since I’ve even touched any kind of colorful eyeshadows or pigments. I had such a ball dappin’ in Heatherette’s Pink Pearl. What a beautiful and FUN pigment….here’s what I used:

EYES (all MAC unless otherwise noted):
Base: Artifact Paint pot (applied with finger)
Pink Pearl pigment (applied with 242)
Carbon eyeshadow ( applied with 224 and 222)
Vanilla pigment (applied with 275)
Blacktrack Fluid line (applied with 266)
Styli Style eye liner
MAC Prep N Prime Mascara
Maybelline Great Lash mascara

FACE:
Olay Complete Moisture Lotion
Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick

LIPS:
Lollipop Loving lipstick
Beaux Lustreglass

I’m lovin’ how this looks. It is a bit loud for me. Which is funny because when I first got into make-up, I had no problem rockin’ crazy colors. But now I am more into subtle and professional looks. But Pink Pearl pigment is definitely one that I am glad I added to the collection. If I had more time I would have played around with the middle of the lid adding Nocturnelle or some other pretty purple color. I absolutely adore purples!! But I love Fridays even more!

It’s Friday, bayyyybeeeeee!!!
