Cool Heat ain't hot...

I've been silent on the newest MAC Collection Cool Heat.

Why? Honestly...I'm not impressed. From the moment I saw the promo pictures I thought that every single eyeshadow color was dupe-able. I haven't even gone to my MAC Pro to see it in person. I just knew I could create a Cool Heat look without...Cool Heat. So check it:

Here's the palette I used.

These are the only blue/turquoise colors I own. I mean....how many does a gal need?

Here's a little diagram to show where I placed the colors.

I used UDPP as a base. I found that using a colored primer (I tried Delft paint pot and a L'Oreal HIP creme liner) made the colors pop TOO much. Because these eyeshadow colors are so highly pigmented and blendable, I found that there was no need for colored bases.

I also used:
Vanilla pigment as a highlight
Clinique purple liner on waterline
Milani liquid liner on lower lash line
SpinLash mascara

LIPS:
Urgent Slimshine (thanks Nywele!)

FACE:
MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW45
Bobbi Brown Brownie Shimmerbrick
(I seriously don't see myself ever wearing foundation again. Is that bad? Heheheee....)

LOL, my flared nostrils. Cracks me up. I am really satisfied with passing on everything in the Cool Heat collection. However, if you are new to make-up or blues in general, this may be the perfect collection for you! I would love to hear your thoughts on this collection. And my look. Is there something I MUST take a look at? Whatcha thank?

Ciao chicas! Stay beautiful!

Site business & Neo Sci-Fi

Hi pretty people...my internet at home has been trippin' like mad but I'm back and in action. Excuse the delay in responding to your emails. I know, I know...missed another Mascara Monday. But no worries. I've taken all of your suggestions and have some fab reviews coming up in the next few weeks.

  • Also, my reviews of those Costal Scents brushes AND a great skincare line are also in the works.

  • Aaaand...if you are like me and love perfumes but ain't tryna break ya pocket on $50+ a bottle, I have the perfect solution for you. That will be in the next Let It Clump Series.

  • Aaaand, thanks to all of you sendin' your love, pictures and quotes for the Brown & Blushin' series. I am so excited because yall are so excited. A post will be coming soon .

  • And last but not least...Clumps of Mascara will be celebrating its (is my blog a male or female? Anyone know?) first anniversary next month and in honor of that, I will be unveiling a completely new look for the site. It's going to be amaziiiing! Are yall ready? You should be because there will also be some giveaways! Heyyyy!!!

*sigh* Okayyy, got all of that news out of the way. Back to beauty...since I'm on make-up probation until June, I really couldn't get excited about...

But I did. I still wanted to max out my credit card, deplete my savings and run to the nearest MAC store. But I didn't. I was a good girl. Yall should be proud.

So to reward myself, I picked up a few Neo Sci Fi goodies. ---but wait, I didn't actually spend money. I returned a liner I didn't like and utilized B2M. So, seeee....no money was spent. Now if that ain't beauty hustlin', I don't know what is.

Check out Sci-Fi-Delity.....it is a frost described as burnt red with gold pearl. I had to snag it simply because I don't have a color like this.

[No Flash]

[Floridian sunlight]

Ohhh, I should add that my make-up artist added Money Honey Dazzleglass on top. I thought it was a bit too much "dazzle" but she loved it.

Me realizing that I actually went to MAC, got 2 products and didn't spend a dime.

Me realizing that traffic in Orlando during lunch hour really don't make no sense.

* a mess*
And most of you are aware of my newest obsession with nail polishes. I already knew I was getting that Phosphor. It is going to be perfect on the toes....when my Shocking Pink starts a crackin'...on goes the bumble bee yellow!

Still not done with Neo Sci-Fi. When my probation is up, I'm thinking about snagging Pink Grapefruit lipglass and swatching Electro (you know..that orange lipstick). The packaging for this collection is my favorite. I don't have a favorite color, but if I did....it would probably be orange (or urnge like us folx in the South say). This collection is kickin'!

What did you ladies snag and like? Disappointed? Obsessed? Let ya Head Newb know!

I was on my way to work and was tempted to try on that new Port Red lipstick from MAC's Naughty Nauticals collection. So I dropped my lunch box and purse on the floor and ran to my bathroom where the beauty of all lipsticks lay in my traincase. I lined my lips with Nightmoth and applied Port Red. I was floored with how beautiful it looks. The subtle gold specks really bring some "umph" to the overall color of Port Red. I am in love with this. And yep, it is a TRUE red. What I love about it is how it isn't a deep red. Deep reds tend to make me really look like somebody's 40 year old Momma. And yall know what I'm talkin' about....hehehe.

So dig the little photo shoot I had in the car. I was careful about it, I promise. I also tried to show pictures in different lightning so you can really get an idea of how Port Red looks. *insert British voice* I was a bit giddy in these pics, chaps but I had a jolly good time. And you'll have to enlarge for a better view. Photbucket was on the trips today, mannnn.

My brows are really crackin' me up. Goin' to get them threaded tomorrow. I can't express how much I love this color.

What do you think?
Yay or nay to Port Red?
.....what' s your take on darker skinned ladies wearin' red lippies?

MAC's Naughty Nauticals

MAC's Naughty Nauticals has been released today and being the MAC lover that I am, I had to check it out. I'm not 'gon lie to yall. MAC hasn't really been impressing me these past few collections. I've really only purchased things out of pretty packaging and the MAC urge. Some of you fellow addicts, know about the latter.

Nonetheless, I am dedicated, so during my lunch break, I took a stroll to my MAC Pro store here in Orlando. One of my favorite make-up artists was there! I love this man. He's a bit on the sexy side and did my make-up that I had on in this picture..*click for a close up*

Yeeeeep, that was when those Paint Pots first came out and I was all over that Delft and Freshwater. Yessss chile. Me and my girl Raffie, good times good times.

Anywho, so my make-up artist (we'll call him Thai) did a great job at introducing the colors to me (tellin' me which ones were dupe-able) and I surprisingly, stuck to my list. Kind of...

Here are the swatches of some of the eyeshadows that I was able to gather WITH flash. I swatched Blue Clam (NOT apart of Naughty Nauticals) because I was debating on getting this color or not. I think I will one day. It is beautiiiiful.

WITHOUT flash

I know, I'm a bit unfair to my readers when it comes to swatchin' and postin'. I'm not really good in this department. I really only swatch the things that I "think" I may like...hehe, so my apologies if you are lookin' for the entire collection on my hand. Ain't gonna happen, chief. It's hard enough trying to to explain why I don't need a make-up remover wipe. Geez.

I wanted to like Illegal Cargo, but Thai and I both decided that it was too chalky for my skin tone. SEE! Pastels never work for us darker folx *pouts* But I did like the 2 pigments I swatched.

Oh la laaaa....that Mutiny is hooooot!! I wanted to haul it so bad but I doubt I will ever wear it. Especially since I'm into neutrals these days. Thai confirmed that Bell Bottom Blue is definitely un-original and therefore not worthy to be hauled. Don't you love honest make-up artists? Can I take him home?

On to the lippies...

Port Red was lined with Nightmoth lip liner because Thai said that they would look beautiful together. He ain't lyin'. And that's why I hauled that. I don't own a TRUE red lipstick. The other lippies were okay, but just "eh..." I liked Buoy-O-Buoy but I already have a nice neutral lipstick.

And I didn't see any Lustreglasses out on display so I didn't get a chance to check those out. I don't think I would have been that interested anyway. I've had my share of lip gloss over $5 for quite some time. Fo reals.

So here are the eye shadows I got.

I know, I know....another blue. But I swear this blue is different. It is absolutely gorgeous. The only thing that I don't like about it, is that it is a frost. Not a big fan of frosts because they take a lot of "packing on" to be effective. But I think that it's worth it. And contrary to what some people think it does not look like Freshwater. This blue is richer. I love it!

This color is re-promote that was originally introduced in the Balloonancy collection. It is a fab gun smoke silver that I think will look good in my little collection. It has silver undertones and is a bit more glittery than I'd like, but overall, I thought it was a must have.....especially for smoky eyes.

Yall know I am a huge proponent for women of color wearing red lipsticks. I am really excited about this Port Red. I checked the racks to see if there was a color like it and I didn't see one. I may have over looked something, but I wanted a nice red lipstick so I'm happy about hauling this. FOTDs soon to come!!

Naughty Nauticals overall: It's okay. But just okay. I'm kinda glad that I didn't like everything because I really don't need to go overboard on the purchasing make-up when I have a new place to furnish. If you already have a good amount of blues/deep purples, pass it. That Mutiny pigment is the best thing I have ever seen though and I may try to snag a sample of that, if anything. The lippies are nice, but I seemed to have colors that were similar and like I mentioned, I didn't see the Lustreglasses.

So what do you folx think?

Those that have checked out the collection, are you lovin' it?
And those that haven't....do you think you will love it?

MAC's Dazzleglass

I don’t know ‘bout yall, but I am a serious lip gloss, girl. I don’t wear it as often as I used to (I’m trying to become a mature woman so I’m into lipsticks, ha!) but I still have some obsession with a good gloss. MAC's Dazzleglass never really intrigued me right away but being the MAC addict, that I am...I still had to check it out.

Dazzleglass…..I gotta give it props. At $16.50, MAC Cosmetics defines these babies as “High-shine + large particle quartz and opal crystal captured in a great new formula with light-reflecting, crystalline iridescence. Umm, so what does that mean in laymen (or women , ha!) terms? Just that it’s a pretty shiny gloss. Is it tacky? Yeeep. Is it lightweight? Hmmm, not quite. Does it have a better staying power than Lipglass or Lustreglass? YES!!! I absolutely love how long this gloss stays on. Longer than the average gloss I’ve worked with.

Do I think it’s necessary to haul more than one? No, but that may just me being cheap. In my eyes, a gloss is a gloss. $16.50 is already a stretch for ONE so I can’t imagine hauling more than that. To prevent myself from even being tempted to purchase more than one, I picked the one Dazzlegass that caught my eye, swatched it, purchased it and walked away.

Let me introduce you to “Get Rich”.

Pretty pretty, uh? This color almost reminds me of Squeeze It from the Fafi Collection, except a little more sheerer and glittery. Here's how it looks alone.

Just ehhh....like a really ole' gloss to me. I would still wear it by itself because of the staying power, but I wasn't too impressed.

So I decided to pair it with a lipstick. Here is MAC's 3D lipstick worn alone.

I'm tellin' you...I love me some 3D. I could wear this color everyday. It's perfect. Topping Get Rich over this gives it a nice little POP that I'm thinkin' I could incorporate everytime I wear 3D. Check it...

I can dig it. Not super impressed but again, the staying power of these babies are really what turn me on. What are your thoughts on Dazzleglass? Pass or a must have?

Let a sista know!

Heatherette Business

I don't know how I always manage to be "available" when a new MAC collection is released. I will do what I can to be there around 10am when the mall opens. Which is kinda sad, but I can't help it. The excitement is too much fun to me and only my other MAC obsessed sistas understand.

I haven't said much about Heatherette because I wasn't too excited about it. I've learned to keep the excitement to a minimum until I actually SEE products. Anything can look good in an ad, online and in a picture. Nah boo, I ain't that easy to fool. And for the record....trying to swatch everything AND take pictures while trying to stay discrete is hella hard. I ain't doin' that anymore. LOL!

This collection is definitely the hotness in terms of packaging!!!! No stickers here, folx. Everything is so beautiful. I really wanted to haul everything but I didn't because (1) I'm on a budget (2) I'm sick of buyin' stuff I don't need and (3) I'm on a budget.

Here's my opinions about the eye trios and why I feel they aren't needed:

Heather Trio 1

Hoppin'--looks like Bamboo
Mood ring--looks like Parrott and/or Shimmermoss-ish
Cloudburst--looks like Black Tied except with blue(I think) shimmers

Heatherette Trio 2

Baby Petals--Eh...
V.I.P.--Looks like a ton of pinks. Nothing different here.
Cassette--Looks like Thunder (from the Blue Storm Collection)

The packaging, however, for these trios is soooooo darling! But if you have colors like these, I would definitely pass. I'm so over haulin' stuff just because it looks good. It is a waste of money and product. But you know....that's just my "tryna be frugal and spend money on better things" self.

I passed on the pencils, lacquers and the beauty powders. The pencils were nice buuuut, I usually don't wear color on the lower lash line. Except Black. Which sounds boring but..... They were mighty pretty though.

The pigments were beautiful!! Jardin Aires and Pink Pearl were just divine. I doubt I would ever wear either but I seriously may go back and get them. They are just too pretty .

Don't wear glitter so I passed on those. Actually I'm extremely anti-glitter. Unless I'm trying to re-live my middle school years, but I digress. HA!

Now on to the lippies....first of all, I was INFURIATED when I found out that my MAC store no longer accepts depotted eyeshadow pots. Since when? I've always done it there but this MA told me that they stopped doing that a year ago. She told me that it didn't make sense to turn in a pot just to get another "free" pot. I mean, I agree with her but they should have thought about that a looooong time ago. So I sadly toted away my 6 pots and that is why I didn't end up getting as much as I wanted. I'm going to try another MAC Store. Hehe..

Anywhoooo....here is what I got. Couldn't swatch too many because people were starin' at my arm so I passed on some.

HA! That's all I got....Hollywood Nights is beautiful but in my opinion, "too much". I would never wear it. Maybe for a night on the town with my girls but...nahhhh. I was really interested in Fleshpot but it looks simply awful on me. So does Starlett Kiss lip glass. I ended up hauling only Lollipop Loving lipstick and Sock Hop Lipglass.

And I can't say I'm THAT impressed with those two. The packaging though...the packaging. So pretty, yall. Now, I'm going to show you some FOTDs with my lippies buuuut my brows looks jacked up and I'm not wearing anything but mascara and liner. So I hope I ain't lookin' too much of a H.A.M. for yall. Haha....

See...there's no WOW about it but I had to get somethin'....waitin' to see what my other blog sistas got. All in all, I liked Heatherette. But moreso for the packaging. As a newbie, I am learning to not let MAC con me into getting stuff that I already have. LOL, not that I don't enjoy being conned but I'm trying to be smart about this make-up obsession. Allure's Beauty Trends are coming next post. I haven't forgotten.

Peace and Heatherette, beauties!

Squeeze It Lipglass

Greetings lovelies!

I decided to dedicate an entire post full of pictures and review to MAC's Squeeze It Lipglass from the Fafi collection. A lot of folx have been saying they like it and passed on it when they initially checked out the Fafi goodies.

MAC describes Squeeze It (frost) as a Brassy Plum. But don't go lookin' at this color online because MAC's uploads certainly does not do it much justice. I think it is a beautiful color for us brown skinned ladies and really for ALL ladies. I have the hardest time taking pictures of my lips because I feel like they are so big and look unflattering. But whatev. I love my full lips, I just don't know how to do that sexy pout. LOL, so don't laugh at me.

Here are my lips with MAC's Chestnut lip liner. I also used Milani's Cocomo.

Viloa. Squeeze It is ultra glossy and appears to be full of glitter but for an anti-glitter queen like myself, it isn't too bad. Now for bigger pics to see the whole face. Which is make-up less and a mess, by the way. My skin is smooth but when I'm not battling pimples, I'm trying to get rid of the scarring previous pimples have left. This adult acne crap is crampin' my style, yo. But then again, I could be exaggerating...AGAIN!

So there is Squeeze It. A color that I really like but I know a drugstore dupe like it exists. Any other Fafi colors that I should take a look at that are brown skinned friendly? Drop ya recs and help a newbie out.

Peace & have a fab weekend!

Fafi-ness

Hi loves....I've been a bit ghost on the blogging tip. I've moved back to Florida, I don't start my new job until next Monday, my apartment place fell through so I'm looking for something else and I am slowly getting over the flu. I've tried to stop by everyone's blog homes and leave some love. I'm still working on my purpose and defined role of Clumps of Mascara. I want this blog to benefit newbies and professional make-up artists alike. Which I am finding hard to do because it takes a ton of time and dedication. Working full time and preppin' up for graduate school leaves me with very little time. I wish I could beauty blog my life away.....bein' the first to post new collections, doing reviews on new products....but I don't think I'll be able to ever do that with the way my life works. But I'll do my best. Especially for my newbies, because this blog is designed for you, for us...

So there's that....a few explanations for the downtime. I checked out Fafi today and was a bit unimpressed...but thanks to the swatches of some of my blog sistas, I already knew what I was going to get and surprisingly got just those things.

I copped Fafi Eyes 1

....and Squeeze It Lipglass.

Here are some more swatches of Fafi Eyes 1 and the look that I'm not too big on. The colors seem a bit frosty and chalky, so I may have to play around with other bases and/or Mixing Medium to get a better look. Yall let me know what you think.

I don't knowwwww.....super duper chalky to me but I'm going to play around with it some more. I think I may go back to get some Paint Pots and a lippie or two. We shall seeeee. What did yall think about Fafi? Was it worth the hype?

Peace & blush.

Brown skinned + Fafi=coooo

I'm hardly on Specktra anymore because I find it hard to keep up with that AND beauty blogging. And since most of yall are good at relaying Specktra news, I have no reason to stroll through there anymore. But I checked out the Fafi for Women of Color thread and found a tutorial done by....duh, a woman of color. She has me thinkin' that this may not be too bad for us. I still can't get over how much I loathe pastels on me, but we'll see.

She didn't allow users to use the embedded version, so here's the link.

Shawnta, why did she remind me of you with her beautiful defined
browbone and gorgeous locs? I was like.....dang, twins!

BB, NARS & Ochre Style

My internet service is the pits and this is the first time I've been able to access it since Friday so I guess I better update quickly before my connection suddenly disappears!

Most of you know that my ventures into foundations weren't so hot. MAC's StudioFix and StudioTech killed my face. Literally. Scroll the blog. I've got pictures to prove it. I stopped using those products but I still wanted some kind of coverage. Especially since I had post pimple marks on my face (lemme tell you....cocoa butter is amazing. It seriously lightens dark spots like that *snaps*) Bobbi Brown's Tinted Moisturizer is simply fab! This is my first attempt with tinted moisturizers. Because my skin is naturally dry, I love how this product gives me some added moisture and a light coverage. It's great for the winter months. I stiple it on my hand and then on my face and blend all over. It goes on beautifully and I don't get that make-upy" look that I dread. When applied with the 187 brush, it is a dreeeam. At $43 a bottle, a little goes a long way which is a good thing for a broke beauty like myself. I'm a NW45 in MAC colors so I use the "Dark Tint" for the BB Moisturizer. Because it does leave me a bit shiny, I buff NYC's loose translucent powder on top. I absolutely adore it. And so far...no break-outs so A+ to Bobbi Brown!

Another product that I adore is MAC's Ochre Style from The Originals collection. What a beautiful muted gold! It looks beautiful when paired with Trax, Sketch and Handwritten. Because it is a bit sheer, I used UDPP and Bamboo paint for the color to really POP! See how simple it looks here.

But when I add a crease color...

I love it! Simple, neutral but.....nice.

And yesterday I went to check out the N Collection. Didn't see anything that I liked. As I've mentioned, I think I'm pretty good in the neutral department. But I did go to Sephora and got NARS Crazed. I've been wanting it for a minute. This newbie has very little experience in the blush area so watching me learn how to do that will be fun!

And I'm also going to do a natural hair post.

Just because I realize there are a lot of us out there with beautiful natural hair. But dang, I can't wait to get my locs like lovely Yummy and Divine Rae.

See my curly Q's!

Yay! Ohhh....and per some blog sista suggestions, I've also dipped into some mineral make-up too. Stay tuned for reviews/pictures of that.

Peace and natural beauty.

I'm back!

Yaaaay! Clumps of Mascara is now up and running. Big ups to my webmistress, Koffee Dyme. I'm lovin' my new blog space. Drop me a message and let me know what you think! Check out my new tabs. I'm excited about it. OH....and my blogroll is in the works too!

And your girl is feelin' like a bit of a celebrity blogger this week because of the love I'm getting from the UDPP post. I've been linked from several other fab beauty blogs and greatly appreciate it. PurseBuzz even linked me! Heyyyyy...

I'm back just in time for the N Collection. Can't say that I'm too excited about this one (what? I'm being honest) but who knows, maybe things will be different when I actually SEE the products. Instead of being repetitive about what this collection is releasing, why don't I just send you over to some of my fellow blog sistas' sites. They've got the real skinny on N.

MakeupFIX
Yummy411
The Daily Cookie
Temptalia

I think I've got enough neutrals in terms of eye shadow colors.....and I got the perfect nude lip from the Blue Storm collection. And since I'm keeping it real simple on the face, there is no need for any MSFs. I'm savin' up for Fafi, mon! Yeeeep. Have a fab weekend! Not sure when I'll be back since my internet is trippin' like a man after the first date.

Peace & happiness!

The Originals and then some...

I'm so behind on updating so I may be rushing things but I think yall can keep up.

One of my blog sisters,
Yummy discussed Google Reader in her most recent blog. Do yourself a favor and check it out! It's amaaaazing. I can now know when each and every one of you lovely ladies makes an update without spending 30 years going to each blog space. I just go to my Google Reader and BAM....I can see who made updates. It even works fab on my Sidekick (which will hopefully turn into a Blackberry Curve on Christmas Day). Good lookin' out, Yums!

Here are what those pretty lip sticks look like. [ahem and how do yall get the titles and words on your pictures? Lemme guess....Photoshop, uh? I'll invest in that when I get on that steady salary. Hehe.]

*left to right* [Milani's Sumptuous and MAC's 3D and Viva Glam IV]

And then here's the bitty haul I got from The Originals Collection. Ochre Style on the left, A Little Folie on the right.

I was NOT a fan of that Parrot. I can't believe people were goin' crazy over a color that looks so close to MAC's Shimmermoss and Waternymph (from the Lure collection). It's so not worth the hype.

I like A Little Folie for a crease color. And even for a lid color if I can get it to work right. I have issues with some mattes. I like Ochre Style because it is a muted gold and isn't as loud as that damn Amberlights. However, it's color payoff isn't too hot so I have to get a super good base for this to pop. But if they don't work out, I will not hesitate to return them. HA!

Don't understand that hype over C-Thru either because it looked a hot mess on me. Hmmm...this collection was just "Eh" for me. The last collection that seriously wow-ed me all over was Smoke Signals and that was in August, I believe. But I do believe that the
Fafi collection will have me jumpin' for joy!!!!!!! Who else is excited about this beauuuutiful collection?

Here is how I'm lookin' these days. Face is looking a little better but I'm getting insecure with the dark spots. I only wear eye liner, mascara and a lip color everyday. Tis all. And heyyyy....look who got a new scarf! Have I mentioned how much I love scarves?

And I played around with Sushi Flower (I'm sorry but I hate HATE this color, I can't ever get it to work), Humid and Shimmermoss. Something didn't come out right because the color payoff so didn't last. But then again, I was just playin' around.

And ohhh, I got my nails done and isn't this color pretty?

I'm happy happy. Why can't my nails look this good when I do it? Ugghhh.. Yall like my faux wedding hand picture, uh? I even got the wedding ring. LOL, I'm a mess.

Peace and Louis Vuitton (I just found my first one!)
