How Am I 34 Weeks Pregnant?

34 Weeks Pregnant

Okay, two things: A) that image may have been posted before and B) it’s a pretty old picture of the bump. I do take quite a few preggo selfies, but girl…you don’t want to see those. Mainly because they’re usually taken in Esposo’s boxers and not always with a bra on. It’s the ultimate version of TMI and I wouldn’t want to put your eyes through that.

See how much I love you?

Blog posts will slowlyyyy be coming to a crawl as I prepare for this second babe of mine. I SHOULD be nesting but the freelancer bee that is me is working like mad to stack cash. Self-employed mamas like me don’t have paid maternity leave. Thankfully, my  clients are SO wonderfully understanding and flexible so while I do feel a bit overwhelmed, at least I like what I do. And you know, not working is NOT an option. I like to work. And I like to make money, so there’s that…

Did I Tell Y’all I Was Having A Homebirth?

7 months pregnant

Sooo…pregnancy. I feel like it has been forever since I  clued the Clumps of Mascara family on what’s been happening with baking Baby #2. I want to say that this pregnancy has flown by but yeah…no. It hasn’t. Those first few months of morning sickness seemed like a century and now that I’m a good 31 weeks, of course life is in overdrive. Surprisingly, I’ve got baby items ready to go so I’m thrilled that at the very least, baby boy will have a onesie or two.

Physically, I’m dragging and it’s getting difficult to bend over but I’m keeping up with my daily stretches and squats and getting in some walks as much as I can. Elle and I hang out at the park where I attempt to chase her and I’ve got my eyes set on a chiropractic adjustment and a prenatal massage.

I’ve been blogging like a mad woman over at What To Expect and but there’s one thing that I haven’t talked about just yet – my homebirth.

I’m having one!

Protect Yo Skin This Summer

Sunscreen products

Summer is in full swing here in Florida and uh, we’re melting. Quite literally, actually. I’m a fan of this time of year, but it gets to the point where it is almost downright unbearable. But bear it, we must, because I’ve got a toddler who REALLY thrives being outside. Elle loves everything about the water and while we can’t always make it to the beach or pool, we’ve gotten her a huge inflatable pool that she can’t get enough of.

Celebrating Summer (and other occasions) with a Coke

Man, lemme tell doesn’t even feel like summer JUST started. Remember, I’m in Florida. We are summer. We complain when it gets lower than 70 degrees outside and we complain when it’s hotter than 90 degrees outside. Yet we chose this life.Summer means spending more time outside soaking up Vitamin D (safely, of course) and spending time with friends and family. For the record, I did very little working out to prepare for this summer but whatever. You will still find me in a pool or beach somewhere; pudgy tummy and all.
Summer also means celebrating Esposo’s birthday!

The Clumps Trunk Is Open For Business!

Clumps Trunk

Apparently, you people (and by people, I mean the entire world) like to buy things online. It’s true, isn’t it? I mean…who actually RUNS to the store these days? When you’ve got Amazon Prime, waiting an extra 2 days for whatever you need is actually a pretty good idea. Especially since they deliver on Sundays.

How is that even possible? I can’t get a paycheck on Sunday but I’ll get my Amazon Prime thangs? Mmm. Okay. Well, in honor of #AmazonEverythang, I’ve created my own little Amazon store. I’ve so cleverly named it The Clumps Trunk. In my trunk are items that I’ve personally purchased and LOVE. I’ve got the trunk separated in many different categories.

  • Makeup Thangs
  • Nail Polish Life
  • Books I Love
  • Natural Hair Faves
  • Skincare
  • Baby/Toddler Life
  • In the Kitchen
  • Tech
  • Fitness
  • Books Featuring Brown Kids

I’ve also got some recipes coming up and all of the ingredients that I will be listing can be purchased from Amazon. How cool is that? The Clumps Trunk will always be around and it’s open 24/7. And yep, it’s loaded with affiliate links which means if you buy something, I get some pennies. But you were going to buy it anyway, right? See! We all win. 😎

This is why I love y’all. But before I go, check out some of my picks from each category.

Vacationing and Baby Baking

Mannnnn, you guys.

I am soooo here for a stress-free life. I want to live it daily. I yearn for it. I crave it. But truthfully, I only get it when I’m on an exotic island, staying in a hotel and breathing beach air daily. So yeah. Our family vacation was in Puerto Rico this year and we had a blast.

Beach at Puerto Rico

Elle didn’t want to leave the water or the pool and Esposo and I loved having so many helping hands assist with toddler duties. We were so excited to get away on a date but uh, we took a nap instead. Which was probably better than a date. Just sayin’. Good sleep is a GOOD thing. I would have also loved to take a ton of pictures of the property to come back and do a thorough post on it but geez, guys…I was a true bum in Puerto Rico. And I’m soooo okay with that! But I did take soooooome pictures.

20 Weeks Pregnant - Baby #2

I know, right? From the woman that was all like Isn’t 1 kid enough? and from the mother who never once in her life had baby fever comes a baking fetus. Isn’t life hilarious? I have to find the humor and joy in it all. Here I am still shocked that I’m a parent of 1 and I’m about to be parent of 2. Someone hold me.

I’m the Mean Mom Who Has Never Thrown Her Kid a Party

The future is so bright, you've got to squint. Thanks for the tee, @sheenatatum! I love when my girl isn't covered in pink. Somehow it managed to be one of her favorite colors.

The future is so bright, you’ve got to squint. Thanks for the tee, @sheenatatum! I love when my girl isn’t covered in pink. Somehow it managed to be one of her favorite colors.

I’m supposed to be sharing my monthly parenting posts with you at least 2 times a month, but man, I’ve been so forgetful. If you’re bored enough and read some of these, you may come across a particular hidden treasure. Heheeee…

5 Signs I’m Not That Mom – I love writing posts about the other side of motherhood. You know, for us mothers who aren’t all Pinterest’y and NOT okay with sleeping with toddlers and working mamas who actually really like sending their kids to daycare.

That Time I Wanted a Boy But Had a Girl – Ohmigoooodness, what kind of parent actually admits this? Hehe. Me. And unapologetically so. But then, check out this post on my fear of having a black son.

4 Reasons Why I Refuse To Throw My Kid a Party – In a world where parents feel obligated to throw lavish parties for kids who can’t even speak yet, there are parents like me. Parents who refuse to shell out money for little people who won’t even know what’s going on. But that doesn’t mean I’m a total grinch who doesn’t celebrate her girl’s birthday in some way. Really, I blame Karen Alpert for this post because after reading this I was terrified to host (shoot, and even attend) a kid’s birthday party.

I Am the Only Mom of Color At Playdates. Why? – Look. It’s a fact that I hate I hate playdates. I’ve never been secretive about this. But shoot, why is it every time I attempt to show up at one, I notice that I’m the only mom of color? What’s with that?

Seen any cool parenting posts/thoughts/ideas out there in the e-space? Please share! I’d love to check ’em out!

5 Ways To Get Your Picky Toddler To Eat Avocados

Ways To Get Your Picky Toddler To Love Avocado

I’m not gonna lie, y’all. I can be a bit of a controlling parent. Sorry, not sorry. When it comes to my child’s nutrition, I’m just not okay with dealing with her temper tantrums and giving in to the demands of fries and chicken nuggets. Which, she’d eat every day with complaint. I believe in offering healthy options as often as possible and eventualllllly I know she’ll eat it. And if she doesn’t, I’m okay with hiding it. Such is the case with avocados.

Elle never liked avocados. Ever. But I’ve found some ways that I can actually get her to eat this nutrient-rich fruit. In fact, this morning after she downed her oatmeal, she asked for a piece of toast. I toasted a piece, slathered avocado all over it and cut it in a cute shape. She gulped it and asked for seconds.

Could it be that I’m actually winning in this Picky Toddler Eating department?

Check out 4 other ways that I use avocado in my toddler’s meals.
