Brown and Blushin': Tarte’s 12 hr Amazonian blushes

Ah yesss, it’s been quite some time since we’ve had a post from our favorite blush series. Don’t think the disappearance of this series means that I haven’t been wearing blush. I still wear it almost every day. Tarte’s Amazonian blushes  have been my new favorites.

I don’t say this about many products (or do I?) but you’re going to need at least one of these blushes. And here’s why…

Brown and Blushin': NYX Tango Bronzer Powder

Here in the great state of Florida (or Flo’duh if you’ve got that Southern draw..:p) it is still practically summer time. Sure the heat index has gone down a bit and the humidity isn’t at 100% anymore but we are still hitting 80’s and 90’s in Central Florida. So while bronzers are typically used during the summer time, I have found one that I’m going to be sporting during the Fall and Winter.

‘Nuff said, uh? That bad boy is gorgeous! Hit the jump to get the deets.

Beauty Review: Illamasqua Iluminator

It doesn’t fail, y’all. Just about every week I get an email from a lovely lady saying that she wants to get into blushes but she is too afraid of color. Instead of responding with a “Are you serious, homie?”-type email, I’m starting to realize that some of us need baby steps when it comes to color on the cheekies.

Enter this cool lookin’ highlighter from Illamasqua…

I know…it looks like a gloss, uh? Not that you can’t dab it on your lips but it is really intended for the cheeks. Here’s what Sephora says.

“Illuminate your darker side with this intense color that highlights and enhances wherever it’s applied. It goes on wet but dries quickly, leaving a high-shine, reflective finish that lasts all night. Use it on cheeks or on any other part of your body where you want to draw attention—it’s not recommended for those who want to remain in the background. “ (source)

Three cheers for multi-purposes products. Gotta love that! Let’s take a closer look at this kid, shall we?

This is exactly how Illamasqua’s lip glosses look. It works for this product too. But you have to be careful. One little squeeze and if you’ve got enough for both cheeks.

But if you’re not careful, you may end up with a bit too much. Could you imagine rocking this on cheeks?

Girlfriend, no! You have to blend this stuff. And quickly. I find my fingers work best for this but you can also use a stipling brush for an airbrushed effect.

Stay tuned for how it looks on my cheeks. It’ll pop up in an FOTD Friday. If you’re looking for an unconventional and long lasting bronzer or highlighter, I say give this baby a whirl. It’s Brown girl approved and gives me another reason to change my middle name to Illamasqua. Holla! You can snag the Illuminator in Halcyon  for $20 at Sephora.

Brown & Blushin': Lancôme Ageless Minerale Blush

Time for another edition of Brown and Blushin’. This time we’re going to be showcasing a mineral blush from Lancôme.

Pretty, uh? I can’t quite put my finger on what this blush reminds me of. I feel like I’ve seen it in a dream before. It applies absolutely beautifully. A swatch…

This baby contains pure mineral pigments that it’s wear is incredible! I’m talkin’ all day! Application is a breeze too. I take a dual fiber brush and swirl swirl swirl…

And bam!

Pretty pink cheeks with a flawless finish. What else would you expect from a brand like Lancôme? You can snag this baby at any Lancôme counter or outline for $29. Which, I’ll admit, its a wee bit pricey but mineral blushes last for-eva!

Brown & Blushin': The brown girl’s must have

Please excuse me for just NOW reviewing a product that has been a staple in my stash for like….two years now. I mean, it’s very rare that you catch me NOT wearing it. It is the blush love of my life. It is…

MAC’s Sweet As Cocoa

I don’t know who introduced me this majestic powder but I am eternally grateful to them. Check out how I apply and wear it.

I wear Sweet As Cocoa just about every day. It goes right on top of my concealer and gives me that minimal coverage that I feel like I need. Even though I don’t wear foundation, I still like to even out my skintone just a wee bit. Sweet As Cocoa works beautifully because it a notch or two darker than my skint one but gives the bronzer-effect.

See…

I usually apply it with a kabuki-like brush from the tail of my brow to my cheeks.

Cheek without Sweet As Cocoa

Cheek WITH Sweet As Cocoa

See the difference! If I’m feeling like a little more color, I’ll dab another blush with more color on the apples of the cheeks. I think Sweet As Cocoa is the perfect introductory blush for the woman of color who STILL thinks she can’t wear blush. But it’s quite simple, brown girls…you NEED MAC’s Sweet As Cocoa.

Run run…get it now. Thank me later. :)

Anyone have Sweet As Cocoa? Tell me you love it as much as I do…
