Sonia Kashuk Does It Again!

My girl Sonia K is at it again. I have a very special place in my heart for this brand. When I first got into makeup and couldn’t afford those ridiculously overpriced brushes at department stores, Sonia took me in her arms and led me to her bargain brushes. I tried to brush her off (haha, see what I did there?) because I was under the impression that cheaper brushes performed…cheaply. But hey – I was dumb. A few purchases later and it’s no doubt that Sonia Kashuk continues to dominate the the makeup brush game.

If you’ve strolled Target lately, you may have come across some of her gorgeous new brush sets – including the Brush Couture Five-Piece Brush Set.

Sonia

The print is art -inspired and they are almost too pretty to function. They do, though! I’m thinking these are ideal for the my professional-minded makeup lovers of the world as newbies may be a bit stumped on how each of these brushes works.

Of course, I’m thinking I need to scoop this up mainly for that duo-fiber brush. I hoard these brushes like mad because they have so many uses! Perfect for bronze and blush application, I have also been known to use a duo-fiber brush for sweeping on powders and tinted moisturizers.

This set also gives you a pointed blending brush, large shader brush, crease brush and smudge brush. And all for $16.99.

Yes, girl. Head to your local Target store or Target.com to get more information (and to BUY) this set as well as other fashion/art-inspired brushes.

3 More Reasons To Love Urban Decay…their brushes!

First of all, why am I just now discovering that Urban Decay has amazing brushes? I feel like it’s a little known secret. Do people know how great these brushes are? I mean, my goodness…I feel like shouting it from the rooftops! But I’ll settle for shouting it on my blog instead. I got these for review and can’t stop rolling them over my face.

Urban Decay brushes

They are just so wooooonderful and soft and just…I mean, whoa! What’s to review? Why can’t I just say: “These are awesome. Buy them.”? And leave it at that?

Urban Decay Good Karma brushes in hand

I guess I COULD do that. But y’all would hate me for it, uh? Welp. Okay then…let’s do a quick review of each brush. And let’s start with that Good Karma Blush Brush.

Urban Decay Good Karma blush brush

Cost: $32 from Urban Decay.com.
Intended uses: To be used for applying blush, powders, bronzers and highlighters.
Is it effective?: Absolutely! What a wonderful brush to use daily. It feels incredibly soft and allows for great distribution right up under or on those cheekbones. And did I mention that she feels realllllly soft?

Good Karma Shading Brush

Urban Decay Good Karma shading brush

Cost: $26 at UrbanDecay.com.
Intended Uses: To assist with contouring and applying eyeshadow on the crease.
Is it effective?: This is the perfect brush to use for really blending out that crease. Even if you don’t have much of a crease or have to fake one. Ahem, like I do. I love that the brush is stiff enough to really GET in the crease but it’s soft enough to eyeshadow a nice airbrushed look.

Good Karma Shadow Brush

Urban Decay Good Karma Shadow brush

Cost: $26 at UrbanDecay.com
Intended Uses: To apply eyeshadow of course, silly!
Is it effective?: Yep! But I like this more for applying powder/loose eyeshadows. This brush dipped in whatever you use to make your loose shadows creamy and then applied to the lid is glorious. It’s a stiffer brush so I didn’t find it as useful when applying pan eyeshadows.

Reasons #493, #494 and #495 to love Urban Decay. That is all.

Have you tried any UD brushes?

The QVC-exclusive Tarte Journey To Natural Beauty collection

Confession. I have messed around and become just a wee bit obsessed with QVC. I’ve made a good 3 purchases in the past month and that is soooo unlike me. Pregnancy insomnia has turned into newborn sleep deprivation and I’m just not in my right mind, y’all. And it doesn’t help when my favorite beauty brands have these QVC-exclusive deals.

DSC_5771-001

Like this one from Tarte. This journey to natural beauty 6-piece collection is so ridiculously swoon-worthy that it don’t make no sense. Sometimes when things are so awesome, you have to drop the formalities of proper grammar ‘n stuff. Available TODAY only, this darling collection contains the following…

The NEW Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement mascara (retail price – $23)

DSC_5797-001

I am beyond excited about trying this out. The last Tarte mascara I tried rocked my freaking world so I’ve got high hopes for this one. Oh. And it says it’ll increase lash volume by 752%. That’s a lofty promise but dang, I’d be okay with like 492%. Ya know?

Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation (retail price – $32)

DSC_5776-001

Ma’am and Sirs – if you have never tried a Tarte brush, you need to hop to it. I will likely be using this brush for all over powder because it is just so so soft.

Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in Fearless (retail price – $26)

DSC_5787-001

Well, we all know how I feel about those Amazonian clay blushes. Obsessed isn’t even the word. Fearless is the newest shade on the block and this warm pink looks like it will compliment all skin complexions beautifully. See…

DSC_5790-001

It’s got a nice pop of golden shimmer too.

The very NEW Amazonian butter lipstick (retail price – $24)

DSC_5784-001

Oh geez, this is wonderful and I’m hoping tarte releases a ton of these in various colors. I thought I loved those Amazonian lipsticks and I do, but this creamy lipstick follows the balm meets lipstick concept and you’re left with pigmented but super moisturized lips. Yassss! And the shade Plummy Rose isn’t too bad.

Brow Architect Shaper, Liner & Definer (retail price – $25)

Amazonian Clay 12-hour full coverage foundation (retail price – $38)

DSC_5776-001

Stay tuned for a full review of this baby but considering THIS comes in the set and the retail value is more than half of the price of the entire collection, well…that pretty much means you NEED to get this QVC-exclusive. Just sayin’…

This entire collection of fabulousness comes toted in a gorgeous travel-friendly bag. This really is one of the best Tarte QVC-exclusive collections I’ve seen in quite some time.

Lé Deets:
Availability – Available on QVC on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 ONLY
Cost - $59.94
Pre-order Item # – A233578
February 5th Item # – A231029

This will likely sell out so if you feel like you can’t live without this collection (totally understandable yo), get to pre-orderin’.

Any Tarte lovers in the house? How wonderful is that butter lipstick? ZOMGGGG.

Elessa Jade’s Cupcake Approved Makeup Brushes!

DSC_3774

My girl Elessa Jade of Pursebuzz is such a show stopper. She is seriously one of the hardest working women I know. Not only does she have a hugely successful YouTube channel, but she is also a makeup artist, travels around the world to speak at events and she has also developed her own brand of makeup goodies, jewelry and accessories. She is one ball of sparkly awesomeness and I am so glad to have crossed paths with her so many times.

We both sat on the same panel for the inaugural The Makeup Show Orlando and right after we finished, I ran straight to her booth where these gorgeous brushes greeted me…

DSC_3752

Okay, okay…pick your mouth up off the floor. These cruelty-free brushes are just perfect for makeup newbies and professionals alike. And they not only feel insanely soft but look…

DSC_3756

Do you see that cupcake? ZOMGGGG! Adorbs, right? Of course I wouldn’t expect anything less from Elessa.

12 Piece Sweet Temptations Professional Brush Set has enough brushes to crank out an entire look and then some. See look…

DSC_3768

The brushes are super soft, cruelty-free and I love everything about how they feel in the hands. I’m so proud of Elessa Jade for launching such a quality and affordable set of brushes. They were insanely popular at The Makeup Show Orlando and it looks like they are still doing fantastic but they are currently sold out online. I know…I hate featuring products that you can’t get right away but I wanted to put these on your radar when they do come back in stock. Because sure enough, I’m sure they’ll sell out quickly again. The entire set goes for $69.99 but you can also buy some of the brushes individually.

And don’t even get me started on some of the other awesome jewelry pieces. I ended up buying THREE at the show. Check out her store and if you make a purchase, tell her B sent you.

5 Sephora Stocking Stuffers Under $30

DSC_4247

I feel like a loser for having not tried very many items from Sephora’s brand. And it’s crazy because a great deal of their products are REALLY awesome. If you’ve got some beauty gals in your life and you’re stumped on what to get them, I’ve got 5 suggestions for you. And the good news…they’re all under $30. Woot! Let’s go…

DSC_4187

DSC_4192

It’s been a while since I’ve dabbled in Sephora’s eyeshadows but these are glorious. Especially that purple eyeshadow!

DSC_4193

It’s the perfect buy for both beauty newbies and professionals alike. The double-ended brush is a nice little edition.

Flashy Eyeliner set ($16)

DSC_4195

DSC_4200

DSC_4201

These eyeliners are nice and totable. But wait…they are waterproof too! Because of the shimmer, they may not last too long on the waterline but as eyeshadow bases and liners on the lower lashline, they are awesome! These remind me a lot like Urban Decay and Make Up For Ever’s pencils.

DSC_4202

DSC_4204

They’re pretty awesome and high-quality. Definitely an ideal stocking stuffer.

Sephora Gloss Lab ($25)

DSC_4205

DSC_4214

Ohmimgooodness, these are glooooorious. Especially for a lipgloss junkie. This set comes with 10 different glosses of various shades and finishes. They’re full-sized too!

DSC_4221

This is such an adorable set for the teenage beauty lover in your life because these aren’t super pigmented. They are all incredibly glossy and even the brightest shade isn’t so bright on the lips.

DSC_4222

Gilded Trio Brush set ($10 – available in stores)

DSC_4231

DSC_4239

Even though I have plenty of makeup brushes, I couldn’t help but go gaga over these. Do you see that gold! Do you?!

DSC_4241

These are just insane. 3 brushes at $10 isn’t too bad of a price, especially with the packaging being absolutely beautiful. The set includes a small powder brush, shadow brush and liner brush so it’s the perfect gift for the beauty beginner in your life.

24 Karat Gold Tweezers ($16)

DSC_4232

DSC_4237

And since we’re talking about pretty gold accessories, how about these tweezers? I actually own a regular pair of these and they are pretty precise.

Now. Let’s review…

The Bamboo 6 Piece brush set ($12.99) is perfect for makeup beginners or for those wanting to give EcoTools a whirl for the first time. EcoTools 5 piece brush set + giveaway!

I’m back with another quick review of one of my favorite brush brands everrrr….EcoTools! I’m still a bit upset at myself for shelling out a crap ton of money on those higher-end brushes back in my makeup newbie days. Someone should have knocked me on my head and told me about EcoTools.

But hey…you live and learn, right? And when you’re a beauty blogger, you try to help fellow beauty lovers not make the same expensive mistakes you did. Aaaaand that’s why I’ll always be bragging about EcoTools. Check out this Bamboo 5 piece brush set…

These are some itty bitty babies, uh? While ideal for everyday use, I think these may be a better fit for those wanting to test out EcoTools’ products or for travelin’ mamas who need brushes that get the job done.

Lé Specs…
-Durable handles of each brush is made from bamboo.
-Cosmetic case is from natural cotton and hemp.
-Brushes are 100% cruelty-free.
-The aluminum on the brushes are recycled aluminum ferrules.
-Affordable at only $9.99.

The cosmetic case is the perfect size. It fits comfortably in the hand which means it’s the perfect fit for purses, bookbags and carry-on luggage.

The brushes, despite their small handles, are actually really good at makeup application. I usually carry normal size brushes with me when I travel, but toting these along will definitely save space. And I just love the beautifully etched handles.

Quick intro of the kids…

Mineral Powder Brush

Ideal for applying powder or mineral foundation. Also works great with blush application. This brush, like all of them, is SUPER soft.

Concealer brush

Great for liquid or mineral powder concealer. It’s a pretty stiff brush so it’s also great for applying concealer to blemishes.

Eye Shading Brush

I’m not sure how great this is for eyeshadow application but I love it for blending and applying eyeshadow to the browbone.

Baby Kabuki

An itty bitty kabuki brush that helps buff powder. Don’t judge her small size – she fits nicely in the hand.

It’s another stellar EcoTools set that is not only available in drugstores and at Ulta but on EcoTools’ new e-store! But wait…if you feel like you’ve GOT to get it now, why not press your luck and try to win it?

One lucky Clumps of Mascara reader will score this 5 piece brush set. That includes my guy ‘n gals livin’ outside of the U.S. too. That’s right! It’s an International-friendly giveaway.

Too Faced Teddy Bear Hair Professional Brush Set

Confession: When Esposo and I moved into our place together we fought over who would get the larger “hobby” room. He ended up winning because he had more equipment for his studio. I wanted the larger room primarily because it had a ton of beautiful natural light and I take a few hundred pics a week and I only like working with natural light.

And because I’m bossy and like to have my way. Anyway – long story short, I still crash his pad when I need to take beauty pics. Which is why until we move, you’ll always see a keyboard, vinyl record or cords and ish in my pics. I should really get Wife of the Year award for making that sacrifice, don’t you think?

Ah yes – but let’s get down to business. Looky! It’s Too Faced! I feel like it’s been forev since I’ve reviewed anything from them. Not that I haven’t been steadily stalking the brand. Because I do. I’ve tried quite a bit from them but never their brushes. Which is cray-zee because I’ve been missing out.

I’m squealing at the fact that it’s called Teddy Bear Hair. Coined by Too Faced Founder Jerrod Blandino, the idea is to give consumers a super soft brush without actually using animal hair. That’s right. These synthetic brushes are cruelty-free. Woot! The teddy bear feel is so dead on as these brushes are so incredibly soft. But let’s talk packaging first…

The 5-brushes are housed in a beautiful pink and gold cosmetic bag. It may be too small for travel purposes (you know…for beauty junkies like me who like to travel with EVERYTHING) but I think it’ll bode well for those who may want to toss it in a purse or bookbag.

It’s lightweight and perfectly portable. And what’s inside ain’t half bad either…

5 brushes with unlimited functions. I mean sure there are recommended uses for them but a true beauty rebel knows you can do anything with a good brush. These are crafted to perfection with detail everywhere. Each brush has pink chrome with Too Faced etched at the bottom.

Quick rundown of the team…

Powder Brush: This baby is super soft. While it would probably work just fine as all all over powder brush, I really like using it as a blush brush. It distributes the perfect amount of color on the cheekies.

Blending Fluff Brush: I’m a fan of stiff and dense brushes for blending in my crease but I love how this works when depositing color in the outer-V and blending it up into the crease.

Angled Eye Shadow Brush: This is another stunner that works great in the outer-V. I’ve tried using it that way a few times but I like it more for placing and blending color underneath my brow.

Small Crease Brush: I would use this for liquid and cream concealers more than anything else. But since I don’t use concealer much these days (I’m wearing foundation like a big girl!) I haven’t been getting much use out of this kid. Yet.

Angled Liner/Brow Brush: This is perfection. It isn’t as stiff as I’d like it to be but I have found that instead of using it on my lower lash line, it works REALLY well at putting a bit of color on or below the waterline. If I cared about those facial caterpillars enough, I reckon this would be a fab brush to use on the brows.

The crew altogether….

Overall: For $65, this is a pretty stellar brush set. And I know what you’re thinking…“OMG B…$65?” Not only are you getting 5 brushes, but you’re getting 5 brushes that you’ll actually use. AND you’re getting a groovy cosmetic bag to go with them. I think it’s a pretty good investment. Especially for makeup newbies or those wanting to treat themselves with some new brushes. Shedding won’t be a problem and I don’t see the paint on the handle of the brushes chipping either. These are definitely some quality brushes that will be lasting me for quite some time.

You can get this set from Sephora and Sephora.com. If you still find the price to be a little steep, maybe consider waiting to purchase these during one of Sephora’s many sales? Hmmm, think about it.

Any Too Faced lovers in the house? Or lovers of teddy bears? Anyone?
