OPI Mariah Carey collection

2013-02-022

Yes y’all! Mimi herself has partnered up with OPI to release her very own nail polish collection. I’m wondering why this is just now happening. She should have had her own collection years ago, uh? I adore Mariah Carey. Moreso the old skool Sweet sweet fantasy baby Mariah than anything else. And don’t even get me started on the albums Music Box and the Emancipation of Mimi. Yasssss. This collection is also where we see the revolutionary Liquid Sand formula polishes. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about them but honey, I’m lovin’ them.

A Butterfly Moment is a frosty tan nude and it’s not what I would have put in a Mariah Carey collection. It has a bit of a Grandma feel to it. It’s definitely work appropriate and would probably look dynamic when used it nail art but by herself, meh…I’m not feelin’ it too much.

Pink Yet Lavender is a pink glitter with lavender shimmer. She’s loaded with hex bits and holographic glitter. Nothing too unique but it’s a nice layering glitter. I’m not sure I get the name though. Am I being slow or does it not make much sense?

Anti-Bleak isn’t terribly unique but I love this deep creamy purple. It has such a nice richness to it and while it takes 2 coats to reach full opacity, it looks stunning nonetheless. And of course I love that it’s a creme.

The Impossible is a matte fuchsia with star confetti. This is one of the Liquid Sand polishes and whooooa – I love it. It dries to a sandy matte finish. It has a nice textured look and feel to it but the crazy thing is, removal is super easy. It’s as easy to remove as a regular polish – not a glitter. As much as I love The Impossible, I hated that I couldn’t get enough stars on the nails. Womp.

Get Your Number is a matte blue with sparkles and I think this is my favorite Liquid Sand polish. It looks amaziiiiing. I don’t even want to see how this looks with a top coat. It looks so spectacular by itself.

Stay The Night is a matte black with red glints. And don’t even ask me what a glint is because I certainly don’t know. Ha! I couldn’t get this one to look as sandy as the others. I waited a good 5 minutes for it to dry, but it still had a bit of a glossy effect to it. Maybe I got a dud? I’m not sure but I still dig the red sparkles.

Sprung is a shimmery copper. This is another unexpected shade for me. It just doesn’t scream Mimi. It’s pretty enough but it’s just okay…

DSC_6478

Can’t Let You Go is a matte purple with dazzling sparkle is woooow, this is another one of my favorites. It actually looks a bit more of a blue violet in real life but it is wonderful. And I don’t think I’d love it as much if it weren’t for the Liquid Sand effect.

I used about 2 coats of polish for polish here and I didn’t have any serious application issues. The Liquid Sand polishes apply beautifully and there aren’t you tricks that you need to know prior to applying them. They are so great and I am loving this trend. I’m sure we’ll see more of these from OPI and other brands. And I am definitely okay with that.

I’m your resident JOHNSON’S BABY Care Council member!

The ambassadorships keep rolling in and I couldn’t be happier. With Clumps of Mascara turning 5 years old next month, I’ve really wanted to step my game up outside the blog with brand opportunities and the hard work is payin’ off. Woot! I am officially a JOHNSON’s BABY Care Council member alongside 14 other phenomenal bloggers.

I know, I know I don’t have any bebes yet but whatev…who hasn’t used JOHNSON’s Baby Powder for beauty uses? Um yahhhh.

Most recently, new Mom Hilary Duff (OMG, Lizzie McQuire is all growed up!) has partnered with JOHNSON’S BABY to help with one of the first JOHNSON’S BABY CARES program initiatives — the assembly, donation and distribution of thousands of JOHNSON’S Baby “Care Kits”. These kits will provide families with baby care essentials immediately during and after disasters.

Sweet, right? I’m very happy to be a part of a brand that does good deeds. Stay tuned for more news of my JOHNSON’S BABY Cares Council member duties. Next month we’ll be heading to New Jersey for an official business meeting and of course I’ll be tweetin’ away.

Oh! Before I go – by purchasing any JOHNSON’S Baby product at retail stores with a $0.50 cent coupon between now and June 10, 2012, JOHNSON’S Baby will donate $0.25 cents to Save the Children. You can get more deets about the awesome things JOHNSON’s is doing by visiting their Facebook page.

Interview with Celebrity Makeup Artist Saisha Beecham

Saisha doing makeup for Kandi of Real Housewives of Atlanta

I had the opportunity to interview one of hottest makeup artists in the game. Saisha Beecham has done makeup for several stars including Janelle Monae, Ashley Tisdale, P.Diddy, Usher, Vanessa Hudgens and one of my favorite actresses, Nia Long. Impressive, uh? I had a few minutes to chit-chat with Saisha. Peep the interview. Y’all know me…I couldn’t ask those boring and typical interview questions. ;)

In attempts to not make this a boring interview, I will start with something random. What’s your favorite candy and would you rather use a PC or a Mac?

Jennifer Hudson wears China Glaze’s Grape Pop

I love Jennifer Hudson. I love that she is one of the few R&B singers out today that actually knows how to sing. I love that SHE was the star of Dreamgirls instead of ‘you know who’. I’d also love to get up on her weight loss plan but that’s neither here nor there.

Check the newstands for the upcoming issue of Essence Magazine where J.Hud will be gracing the cover. And on her nails are China Glaze’s Grape Pop. Fo real! Manicurist Cenita Scott hooked Jennifer up with one of my favorite nail polishes.

Grape Pop is from the Up & Away Collection. I was rockin’ it a few seasons ago myself.

You can still snag it on TransDesign.com for $2.99. See, J.Hud…I knew we were friends. Now how about lettin’ me sing a hook on your next album? 8)

Celeb Spotlight: Selita, your lipstick made me faint.

So I’ve crawled out of my pop culture rock and came across some absolutely stunning photos of Selita Ebanks at the 2010 New Yorkers For Children Fall Gala. I feel like a loser for having to Google her to see what she’s done. This Cayman Islands beauty was a former Victoria Secret’s Angel. Duh, B. I so should have known that.

Tell me her look is not gorgeous….

I’m not sure what material her dress is but I kinda dig it.

But it’s the lipstick that I am absolutely in love with. If I had to guess, I would say it’s MAC’s Girl About Town, a stunning bright pink that looks gorgeous on everyone. Yes, even us darker brown girls. Don’t believe me? Stay tuned for an FOTD featuring a Selita inspired lip.

Ciao loves!

COVERGIRL is rockin’ my world

There are a lot of cool happenings goin’ on in the COVERGIRL world. First up, next month these LiquiLine Blast eyeliners will be hitting stores and I can not WAIT to try them out.

How gorgeous is that green? And that purple…*faints*  I first saw them reviewed on An Indian’s Makeup Blog and her review had me thinkin’ those liners are so promising. Yes, even us bloggers get swayed by other bloggers. LOL! Stay tuned for my review of those.

And in other CG news…
On my flight back from Washington D.C., I finished Queen Latifah’s most recent book.

O.M.G…now y’all already know how much I LOVE her, but this book really sent me over the edge. I’ve gone from ‘Yeah, she’s cool’ to straight up adoration. I felt as if she was talking to me. I was inspired, laughed, cried and felt so motivated. I’ll be back with a complete review on that but in the meantime, snag you a copy from Amazon. If you find yourself in a “What should I do? Where should I live? Who am I? Who do I want to be? I want to live but don’t know how” kind of rut (story of my life!), this book will realllly inspire you.

Speaking of Queen, check her out with the 5 winners from the Persona contest.

These talented ladies beat out hundreds in search to find the best female hip hop talents across the country. It’s a darn shame that I can’t flow, y’all. Congrats to Naakira, Gina, Shea, Amber and Christel. Check our their profiles and listen to their flows here. Such fabulous chicks they are!

And since we’re talkin’ fabulous chicks…COVERGIRL, in partnership with LeSportsac, has created a limited edition cosmetic bag collection inspired by COVERGIRL LashBlast Length Mascara and my cousin (in my mind, at least) Pat McGrath, makeup guru and Global Creative Design Director for P&G Beauty.

I pretty much need that cupcake bag in my life NOW! Every purchase of the new cosmetic bags ($28 – $62) will come with a mini-lookbook with six custom beauty looks from Pat and a free LashBlast Length Mascara. Tres cool! Start a shoppin’ here.

Celeb Spotlight: Letoya’s coral lips

I’ve spotlighted Letoya on Clumps twice before. She is becoming one of my favorite celebrities when it comes to rocking beautiful make-up looks. She killed me softly with her purple lip and had me running home to try a nude lip. My girl has done it again with a beautiful coral lip.

Stunning! You see…coral is one of those colors that I’ve never learned to appreciate on brown skin. It never seemed flattering. Letoya has proved me wrong. In its subtly, her coral lip is absolutely beautiful and goes great with her coral dress.

I’ve checked my lippy stash and can’t seem to locate a coral lipstick or gloss. Any ideas? What do you use to achieve a beautiful coral lip?
