Beauty on the Tube: My favorite TV show…gone!

I’m in mourning, y’all. One of my favorite TV shows has been canceled. It’s gone. It’s over. Lincoln Heights was one of my favorite shows. I watched it while I was living in LA. The show took place in LA and so I felt kind of connected. I thought the acting was great. And it’s gone.

I haven’t been this sad since the last episode of Girlfriends. Oh wait…did they even have a season finale? *sigh*

This is bad. And I refuse to get caught up with reality TV. What TV show cancellation hurt your feelings? What’s your favorite current TV show?

Goodbye beautiful ladies of Lincoln Heights!

TCM’s 31 Days of Oscar

When I was growing up, my sister Courtney and I watched a lot of old films with Mama Clumps. She was a Hitchcock lover so we watched the classics like Dial M for Murder, Vertigo and The Birds. *shutter* My sister and I still have a phobia of birds because of that movie. Hey sis, remember that time we went to the beach and spent most of the time in the car because the birds kept attacking us? No me gusta.

This month Turner Movie Classics has been and will continue to show 360 Academy Award-nominated and winning movies, presented uncut and commercial-free. This year the films are scheduled in a format inspired by the ever-popular Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game – starting with Only When I Laugh and ending with Diner.

This lasts up until March 7th; the day of the Oscars!  Clumps of Mascara and friends have been provided with a TCM party pack so we will be having a viewing party. Are you going to be watching it too? TCM also a cute Moodboard! You chose your mood, it gives you a clip from a famous movie scene and you can send it off to friend. Or lover.

Stay tuned for your chance to win a TCM Party Pack. It will be a one day only contest so keep your eyes peeled and your fingers crossed. I’m gone now.

…like Scarlett O’Hara in what movie?

Check testing your trivia. :)

FOTD Friday: The Tatyana Ali look tutorial

Happy Friday!

Sooo, guess what? I recently saw Tatyana Ali on the red carpet and her simple yet stunning look took my breath away.

How beautiful does she look? The WOW-factor comes from her jewelry. A look like this has 3 focuses.

1) Defined brows
3)  Minimal liner with a shot of gold eye shadow right on the lid
3) Luminous skin with a rosy matte blush

Here’s my little tutorial on how to achieve a look like this..

First up…brows!

My untouched brows require a ton of maintenance.

After a spoolie and a little liner, I’ve got the definition I’m looking for.

Tatyana has gold eyeshadow on her lid. And just on the lid. I whipped out my Barbie for Stila gold shadow…

…and applied it right to the lid. She doesn’t look as if she used any liner on the lower lashline but to make this look a little more “me”, I winged out my liner.

And lastly… the skin! I hid my dark marks with concealer…

Applied MAC’s Sweet As Cocoa..

I usually apply it just on the cheeks but to get that all over glow, I buffed it all over. And then I pulled out CARGO’s Lyon.

I absolutely adore this blush. Just a dab to a the apples..

And boom la wow! Final look…

The lipstick is NYC Cosmetics’ Garnet and Stila’s Brown Sugar Lipglaze. Fabulous combo.  I can dig it. I’m loving this natural look.

What do you think?
Do you not love matte blushes? I mean, wow!

Have a fabulous weekend,

New York Fashion Week: Fashion for Relief, Nail Polish for Me!

My Auntie Naomi Campbell is nothing short of fierce. Yes, she’s a diva and may toss her cell phone at your head but let’s be honest…most of us are like that, right?
On Friday, February 12, Ms. Campbell hosted the Fashion for Relief runway show and proceeds went to Haiti’s earthquake victims. I just love when celebrities can incorporate their talents and passions for good causes. Her show was also a good reminder that Haiti STILL needs our help. Good for you, Auntie. And yes, she’s really my Aunt. She just doesn’t know it yet though.

And I have more good news…Dashing Diva nail polish adorned some of the models’ nails with the ever so lovely Diamond District.

Diamond District may very well be getting hauled by me. Look at its fabulousness of the nails of the models.

I need this color now!

Beauty Review: CoverGirl Smoky Shadow Blast

Queen Latifah is one of my favoritest people in the whole world. Like…I LOVE LOVE her. A lot. She is such a inspiration. Yes, I watch Living Single reruns every week. Yes, I have and love her jazz album. And yes I think U.N.I.T.Y. is STILL the jam.

For Superbowl XLIV, Queen rocked this look…

A few weeks ago, Keri Hilson rocked a smoky purple eye at the Grammy’s. Since Queen’s make-up artist Monifa Mortis said that a similar look can be achieved by using CoverGirl’s Smoky Shadow Blast in Purple Plume, I wanted to try! If it’s good enough for the celebs, it’s good enough for me too, right?

You can get these creamy shadow sticks for $9.99 where ever CoverGirl products are sold. Now the question is…do they work?

The Shadow Blast is supposed to help you achieve a colorful smoky eye by providing you with a lid and crease color. It fits right in your hand which makes for great on-the-go shadow touch-ups.

The concept is pretty simple. The light color (step 1) goes right on the lid and the darker color (step 2) goes in the crease and the lower lashline. It is illustrated beautiful on the packaging.

Step 1 of Purple Plume is a creamy pink that isn’t as scary as I thought it would be.

I didn’t have any problems with application. The shadow is creamy and opaque. This is a good thing because tugging on the lids is no bueno. Part 2 is a is burgundy berry.

You will have to use a blending brush to blend the two colors together for a flawless look. I finished the look with a a highlight, liner and mascara and…

CREASING! Creasing makes me cry. Seriously. It is the worst thing that can ever happen to eye shadow application. I think I would like the Shadow Blast more if it stayed on the lids longer. I have heavy lids and without a base, I crease beyond belief. So I’m not sure if I like Shadow Blast by itself.

But for touching up looks on the go? Perfecto!

Have you tried this yet?

Lisa Bonet’s Style: Bummy or Bohem?

I was always a fan of Lisa Bonet’s character on The Cosby Show. She was free-spirited, carefree, a dreamer and although she took a lot of unconventional routes she reminded me of….myself.

Seriously! Ask my sisters. Whenever we play “Which sister are you from The Cosby Show?” they would all say I’m like Denise. I’m the one that went to college and cut off all of my hair. I moved to the other side of the country and dabbled in veganism, vegetarianism and everything in between.

Yeah yeah….so I’m the “eccentric” one in my family. And proud!

Some photos of Ms. Lisa Bonet popped up in the blogosphere and it appears that some of the Young, Black & Fabulous readers thinks she looks like a bum. What say you? Hit the jump to view the photos.

Am I missing something? I think she looks fine! I know, I know…you’re expecting me to question why she isn’t wearing any lip gloss or blush, right? Wrong! While I always like to look my best when I go out (even if to the grocery store), being comfortable means the world to me. Ms. Bonet doesn’t feel the need to wear 4-inch heels or skirt just to run some errands. And for that, I love her! Her skin is flawless and her freeform locs are just beautiful. Not to mention she is a 42-year old Mom with a toddler. She doesn’t have a drop of make-up and still looks youthful.

And she shops at Erewhon? I used to love shopping at that store when I lived in Los Angeles. But, um yeah..I don’t see anything wrong with her look at all.

What say you?

Is she taking the bum look too far or is this just classic comfortable bohem?

Celeb Spotlight: Keri Hilson’s Grammy look

Soooo chicas, did anyone catch the Grammy’s? Or was I the only loser that didn’t? I know…I’m so bad. I actually forgot to watch it. It wasn’t a terrible lost though because the next morning I woke up to a ton of Grammy related blog posts in my Google Reader.

One of my favorite looks of the night was by Ms. Keri Hilson….

Now don’t ask me what song she sings. Y’all know I live under a pop culture rock and don’t know these things. But the lady is killing it with the dark purple eye. Keri’s make-up was done by make-up artist Ashunta Sheriff (whose hair I am obsessed with) and she used one of CoverGirl’s Smoky Shadow Blast Shadow Stick in Purple Plum as her base. You’ve seen them in your drugstores, right? They look like this…

I will definitely be trying these babies out with the quickness. I loved how Ashunta kept the purple right on the lid without blending too much. It really makes the look pop out more. Oh…and I would be remiss if I didn’t show Ms. Hilson’s mermaid-style dress.

*faints* Goodbye. I know of nothing else to say. There is just an overbundance of fabulousness in this post.

Okay, but seriously….what do you think about her look? Has anyone tried those CoverGirl Shadow Sticks? I’m thinking of posting some more of my favorite Grammy looks. Hmm…

Stay tuned!

Celeb Spotlight: Letoya’s nude lips

Now y’all know I don’t keep up with celebrities too much but every time I see Letoya Luckett, I am just in love with her make-up! Remember when she wore that insane purple lip? She is just absolutely stunning. I LOVE this look on her. Nude lips, volumized lashes and bronzed cheeks. I also detect a little green liner on the waterline which adds a nice unexpected pop of color. Total perfection.

And I won’t even get on how gorgeous her hair is either. She is just one fabulous lady. Rock on. Letoya!

I posted about rocking a nude lip here but mine doesn’t look anywhere near as awesome as Letoya’s. Tips anyone? Maybe I need a super nude glosss. But not too nude because it may too cool for my warm complexion. Hmm…

How do you rock a nude lip?
