New goodies from NARS and Maybelline

Ohhhh goodness, there are some fabulous products coming our way, y’all. Check out NARS Spring 2010 collection.

I normally don’t post promo photos, but I am LOVING this collection. NARS is one of those brands that I only purchase from sporadically because they are super pricey. I think I’m long overdo. The want polish, lippies, pencil and shadows (oh wait…that’s everything, ha!).

A few days ago I tweeted a photo of some new Maybelline mascaras that I saw in an NYC Walgreens.

I also spotted was a Lash Stiletto Voluminous. Holla! Can’t wait to try these out. Here is additional information about those XXL Pro mascaras.

XXL PRO VOLUME:

* 2-step process mimics the pro routine of layering powder and mascara to achieve dramatic volume.
* Available in two washable shades (Very Black and Brownish Black) and two waterproof shades (Very Black and Brownish Black); SRP $9.40.

XXL PRO EXTENSIONS:

* Forget troublesome false lashes and messy glues. This 2-step mascara features brush-on extensions that give lash-lengthening results similar to what the pros get with combs and false lashes!
* Available in one washable and one waterproof shade (Very Black); SRP $9.40.

XXL PRO CURL:

* Achieve an eye-opening curl without the lash curler! The primer curls the lashes, while the mascara gives bold color and sets the curl for 24 hour hold.
* Available in one washable and one waterproof shade (Very Black); SRP $9.40.

XXL PRO 24-HR BOLD

* The unique formula gives the long-wear benefits of a waterproof mascara with the more dramatic look of washable mascara.
* This 2-step mascara copies the pro routine of layering waterproof mascara over washable mascara: the base coat provides intense black volume for maximum impact, then the top coat builds an impermeable shield for 24 hour wear.
* Available in one washable waterproof shade (Very Black); SRP $9.40.

So many to choose from right? If you had to choose just one, which one would it be? I’m all about that volume, baby!

Look for reviews…coming soon!

Beauty Bee-haviors: MAC Style Warrior collection

Welcome to another post from the Beauty Bee-haviors series. In this series we have open discussions about any and everything in the beauty world.

This time last year I was still obsessed with MAC Cosmetics. I would run to the store the minute collections were released. I would save all of my pennies to buy products just for packaging-sake. I have been showing love to other make-up brands in the past year or so MAC doesn’t get so much of my attention. But this new Style Warrior collection is absolutely beautiful!

Have you seen it?

Giiirl, I just want to grab every bit of it. But I haven’t yet. I’ve depleted my funds for the month AND I have similar colors, but I can’t deny how beautiful the packaging is.

So riddle me this….

Did you haul anything from MAC’s Style
Warriors Collection?

If so, what? Any must-haves? Tell me!

Beauty Review: MAC’s Tinted Lip Conditioner in Popster

Introducing product #3 that I purchased from the MAC Hello Kitty collection.

I justified purchasing this for several reasons; one being that I simply adore MAC’s lip conditioners and two because I could re-use that darling Hello Kitty case over and over again.

But seriously, I love MAC’s lip conditioners. I have only purchased one. And that means something…your $14.50 will last a LEAST a year. So yes, I know that almost $15 on a balm is a stretch but it will really last you some time. I use my religiously…every day and every night following my skincare regimes. That’s right conditioning your lips is just as important as taking care of your skin.

But yall knew that right?

I figured MAC’s Tinted lip conditioner in Popster would be the best of both world’s. The wonderful conditioning formula that I’m used to with a nice subtle flush of color on the lips.

The packaging is indeed quite darling. A friend of mine goes, “Wow B…..aren’t you too old for Hello Kitty products?” I didn’t jump on him, yall. He clearly doesn’t understand. Plus what am I? 79? Geez.

MAC defines Popster as “lively coral pink”. I guess that’s pretty accurate. What do you think?

At first glance, the darker skinned woman of color may think this color is far too intimidating for her brown skin, but it’s not. This lip conditioner is rather sheer but build-able at the same time. That means if you want to go subtle at work you can do that. If you are headed to Happy Hour later, you apply a little more and BAM….you’ve got a bright lip. Perfect!

How it looks on me?

Subtle. Just like how I like it for work. When I am running errands and want a little more “pop” I line my lips with my beloved MAC Nightmoth lip liner and I am good to go. And I wasn’t trying to be cute with the finger on my chin. I actually have a horrific pimple there and didn’t want to scare yall.

Popster is currently sold out on the MAC website. I’m not lying….see HERE. I know….”they trippin'” as I would say. Check your local MAC stores or counters to see if they are still available.

Have you ever tried MAC’s lip conditioners?

FOTD Friday: Lavender Lips

Happy Friday, everyone! What’s everybody doing this weekend? Notice I said “this weekend” and not Valentine’s Day. Now don’t get me wrong, I actually don’t have a problem with Valentine’s Day but it gets a little annoying, you know? So NO, I won’t torture yall with a “Valentine’s Day” look.

But I still love you, family!

Movin’ on….so for the first time….in a long time, I made a MAC purchase. I trotted in the Orlando PRO store to check out the Hello Kitty collection. One of my favorite artists grabs my hand and shows me the stand for the Cremesheen collection. I didn’t show much interest because I have honestly gotten to the point where…I feel like I have enough.

HOWEVER!

I don’t have any lavender/lilac lipsticks.

Lavender Whip ($14) lipstick and Ever So Rich Cremesheen ($18…WTF!) are new to the MAC crew. I am pretty much in LOVE with Lavender Whip. Alone it is quite scary but when paired with MAC’s Nightmoth lip liner, it is wonderfully unique and fun.

Ever So Rich on the other hand…I’m on the fence about. Alone it looks like this.

“Like what, B?”

I know….nothing. If I’m going to spend $18 on a lipgloss I need to see something other than a shimmer-less creamy color. I’m just sayin’….

I decided to play around with purples on the lids as well. I tried to do a smokey look but it didn’t come out exactly like how I wanted. I’ll perfect it tomorrow when I head out to celebrate my girl’s birthday.

I’ve got some weird gaze goin’ on in my eyes in the next picture.
But it shows how good LavWhip looks. But it also shows how well I have NOT blended.

Yes, I’m showing yall pictures of my errors. This is how we learn, mkay?

I didn’t blend well enough on the corners of my lip. Next time, next time.

Who would have thought that a lavender lipstick could be so magnificent? It’s subtle but just…wonderful. I can dig it.

What do you think? Would you rock a light purple lippie? I just checked and Lavender Whip lipstick is currently sold out online so apparently people knew this was a diamond in the rough. Check your MAC stores and counters and get this one before it disappears in the black abyss.

Have a grand ole’ weekend,

Amor de Lacquer: MAC’s Hello Kitty Something About Pink

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Beauty bloggers, make-up enthusiasts and Hello Kitty fans (I am all of the above, HA!) alike have been lemming after MAC’s Hello Kitty collection for quite some time. While I was quiet in my thoughts about the collection before the launch, I went from 0 to 193 when I saw the collection in person this past Monday.

I am sure you have heard much about it but if not visit HERE and HERE. Some of my favorite beauty bloggers have already tackled the collection, details and all. I have decided not to do a complete run down of the collection because I am far too lazy to do all of that AND I’m cheap. I only purchased 3 items. HA!

Enough of my rambling…let’s get to chattin‘ about one of the highlights of this collection.

Something About Pink nail polish

Ah yes…$11 for a bottle of polish. Definitely out of my price range considering I usually don’t spend more than $4/bottle on average but this was definitely a MUST have.

Yes, this cream looks perfectly pink in the picture but in real life it is a loud pink poppin‘ polish. And do I love it? Hells yea!

I wish I could, but I simply can not take credit for the beautiful application of it on my nails. If they look better than usual, it’s because I had a pro do them! My friend, Curls is a professional in the spa business and he actually doesn’t mind doing my nails. *gasp* I know, he’s great. His application was perfect despite the fact that SAP was a little thick.

“It drags a little bit at the cuticles,” he said.

2 coats and a clean-up later and I had a masterpiece. I had a serious photo shoot with this polish so don’t mind the artistic shots. LOL!

I know those watermarks are just horrific but there are some nail polish photo-swippinmofos on the net. It’s ridiculous. I can’t stop people from jackin‘ me but they’ll be doing some Clumps advertising too. HA!

You can get Something About Pink at any MAC store, counter and at maccosmetics.com for as long as supplies last. Which probably won’t be long since this is a serious coveted item!

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya’s Twist Collection, Part 2

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

A week or so back, I introduced you lovely people to Zoya’s Spring ’09 collection: Twist. Part 1 is here. Onward we go to Part Deux.

First up we have Jo. What a wonderful blue to my collection. I only applied two coats here but I would probably do three just because I love a complete opaque look. Jo has tons of sparkle but nothing too crazy. I would definitely rock this on the weekends for the perfect subtle yet showy nail color.

I really like Moxie! But then again, I would because it’s a creme. This color applied like a dream; I usually don’t have application problems with Zoya polishes. Moxie is a beautiful berry beet color that isn’t terribly unique but I love it just the same. I probably have a good 2 colors similar to this but nothing beats the application of a Zoya polish.

Think pink! Barbie pink that is. This photo may not show it but this polish is crazy bubble gum pink. It looks a little muted here but it really is a loud pink. Which I think is very pretty! I prefer it more on toes but would not mind rockin’ it on the hands either.

All in all, I am enamored with Zoya’s Twist collection. The colors are diverse and there is something for everyone–be it the nail polish addict or the conservative polish wearer. Malia would be my favorite out of the bunch with Harley coming in at a close second. This is my second Zoya collection and I can honestly say that I am a bonafide fan!

Buy these and more for $6/bottle at Zoya.com. Or better yet, get the Sampler for only $36!

A fan of Zoya’s Twist collection? Interesting? Not so much…..tell me what you think.

Polish Pretty,

MAC’s SugarSweet collection….I hate it!

All has been quiet on the Southern front when it comes to MAC Cosmetics for me. It has been quite a while since I’ve indulged in any of the collections. In fact…I think the last one was Cult of Cherry. But since then I’ve been a little….

*yawn*

But that doesn’t mean I don’t get excited with each NEW collection. I get excited. I just don’t purchase. After doing some blog hopping over the weekend, I came across a Risser‘s blog displaying MAC’s SugarSweet collection. I’m not sure when it will come out but here is the promo ad for it.

Just what in the hell is this? Exactly how is this sista’s features being accentuated? Where is the beauty in this? If you ask me….this may be why a lot of Black women fear wearing make-up. Fear of looking like this.

I hate it. I hate it. And I will never purchase another MAC Cosmetics product again if this indeed is the promo for this collection. I’m not even kidding. —or maybe I am. LOL!

Am I being overly sensitive? Women of color, I would love to hear your thoughts about this promo ad.

When is it ever okay for a darker sister to ever wear an extremely pink pale lip?

Or bright pink shadow allll the way up to the brow? Would you rock it?

Hmm……speak on it!

[EDIT]: I’m not offended per se but I don’t think that this particular ad is flattering for the woman. This is not make me want to run out and purchase the products. Hmm….lovin’ the thoughts and comments, family. Keep them coming!

Amor de Lacquer: Zoya’s Twist Collection, Part 1

Welcome to another post of Amor de Lacquer….the series all about nail polish and nail care! Send me your requests, suggestions and ideas to Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

If I could be BFFs with a nail polish collection, I am thinking that Zoya’s Twist would be it! What a fun Spring collection. It offers a little something for every one. And of course, I think it is brown girl friendly. I have been getting quite a few emails/comments about “polishes that work for brown skin”. You know me—I think we can rock anything! But for yall’s sake, I will identify the polishes that aren’t as flattering on us. How’s that sound?

First up, Cassi. This color is described as a shimmering soft pink and I agree. It is just that! I was happy to have it as I don’t have any color in my collection like it. I think I would prefer it more on the toes than my fingers but she is a beaut nonetheless.

Now we have, Malia! Ohmigoodness, I love this color. I knew I would love it for two reasons alone: it’s purple and it’s a creme. My weakness!! And it doesn’t help that it has the same name as my darling baby cousin, Malia Obama. This color is described as a violet creme and man oh man does it look beautiful. It looks like one of those pastel easter eggs. My loctician couldn’t stop complimenting me when she saw me in this color.

If purple is my favorite nail polish color than grays would probably come in at a close second. I can’t get enough of them and Harley rocks my heart. This soft shimmering gray looks divine! I thought it would look like O.P.I.’s Sheer Your Toes but it is a more intense shade of gray and I think I prefer this one better. It’s an unexpected color from a nail polish Spring collection but I adore it.

Got your eye on any of these babies here? Buy these and more for $6/bottle at Zoya.com. Or better yet, get the Sampler for only $36! Stay tuned for Part 2 of Zoya’s Twist Collection.
