EcoTools 5 piece brush set + giveaway!

I’m back with another quick review of one of my favorite brush brands everrrr….EcoTools! I’m still a bit upset at myself for shelling out a crap ton of money on those higher-end brushes back in my makeup newbie days. Someone should have knocked me on my head and told me about EcoTools.

But hey…you live and learn, right? And when you’re a beauty blogger, you try to help fellow beauty lovers not make the same expensive mistakes you did. Aaaaand that’s why I’ll always be bragging about EcoTools. Check out this Bamboo 5 piece brush set…

These are some itty bitty babies, uh? While ideal for everyday use, I think these may be a better fit for those wanting to test out EcoTools’ products or for travelin’ mamas who need brushes that get the job done.

Lé Specs…
-Durable handles of each brush is made from bamboo.
-Cosmetic case is from natural cotton and hemp.
-Brushes are 100% cruelty-free.
-The aluminum on the brushes are recycled aluminum ferrules.
-Affordable at only $9.99.

The cosmetic case is the perfect size. It fits comfortably in the hand which means it’s the perfect fit for purses, bookbags and carry-on luggage.

The brushes, despite their small handles, are actually really good at makeup application. I usually carry normal size brushes with me when I travel, but toting these along will definitely save space. And I just love the beautifully etched handles.

Quick intro of the kids…

Mineral Powder Brush

Ideal for applying powder or mineral foundation. Also works great with blush application. This brush, like all of them, is SUPER soft.

Concealer brush

Great for liquid or mineral powder concealer. It’s a pretty stiff brush so it’s also great for applying concealer to blemishes.

Eye Shading Brush

I’m not sure how great this is for eyeshadow application but I love it for blending and applying eyeshadow to the browbone.

Baby Kabuki

An itty bitty kabuki brush that helps buff powder. Don’t judge her small size – she fits nicely in the hand.

It’s another stellar EcoTools set that is not only available in drugstores and at Ulta but on EcoTools’ new e-store! But wait…if you feel like you’ve GOT to get it now, why not press your luck and try to win it?

One lucky Clumps of Mascara reader will score this 5 piece brush set. That includes my guy ‘n gals livin’ outside of the U.S. too. That’s right! It’s an International-friendly giveaway.

EcoTools, you so fine, you blow my mind…

Did we need another reason to love EcoTools? Not really. But I am absolutely loving the re-design of the new brush sets. Designed by environmentalist and activist, Alicia Silverstone, six newly designed EcoTools sets hit the scene last month. The bags are made from natural hemp, recycled PET, non-toxic ink, and tree-free paper. And the 6-piece brush set is my absolute favorite!

EcoTools 6 Piece Eye Brush Set

Not my car. I rented this darling buttercup for a road trip.

Happy Earth Day!!!! I hit the road a lot. I’m traveling at least 2-3 weekends out of a month. It may have something to do with finally having a car that is reliable enough to take on the highways and byways. But see…my trips are usually crazy spontaneous. Meaning, I’ll decide on Thursday evening that I want to pack up my car  and head 4 hours South or 9 hours North. To prevent myself from forgetting the necessities, I always have a pre-packed bag. Somethin’ like this…

Lately I’ve been tossing this inside…

It’s baby EcoTools brushes!

These are darling. They are about an inch smaller than the full size EcoTools brushes.

That makes them big enough to hold and grip when applying make-up but small enough to fit in your pocket, purse or cosmetic bag. Each brush is printed with its name. Oh, you didn’t know that “certain” brushes do certain things? Yes ma’am!

This is great for the make-up newbie! And since we’ve come to expect the best from EcoTools, they don’t skimp in the packaging department either.

Not a bad buy for $7.99, uh? Oh! And EcoTools has pretty cool tutorials on YouTube now. This one talks about how to achieve the cat eye look.

EcoTools Bamboo Bronzer brush

I love EcoTools, yes I do. I love EcoTools, how ’bout you! Don’t give me that cyber-eye. I know I wasn’t the only kid that said that little chant.

Uh, I actually said that yesterday about popcorn. HA! EcoTools does it again with another brush that I’m wondering how I lived without. Their retractable kabuki is a staple in my travel bag. The bronzer brush is quite similar to it and I have been using it daily.

But before we talk about the brush, look at the packaging!

I didn’t think about it until using it, but I suppose you COULD re-use the pouch. They also give a Green Tip on each of their products. Loves it!

A closer look at the brush…

This is now my go to brush for sweeping Sweet As Cocoa from my hairline to my cheeks.

Perfecto!

You can snag this brush for $9.99 at drugstores, Ulta, Target and anywhere EcoTools products are sold.

EcoTools bags designed by Alicia Silverstone

Sooo, my ever so favorite EcoTools has come out with some darling eco-friendly (of course) cosmetic bags designed by the fabulous Alicia Silverstone.

I most remember her as Cher from Clueless. I know that movie word from word. Don’t judge me. I grew up in the 90’s and that was so one of the hottest movies. Ha! Let’s talk about the bags…

Overnight Bag
($19.99)

This is perfect! When I travel, I usually have a cosmetic bag and a bag for lotion/deodorant type products. I can toss everything in this one bag.

Cosmetic Brush Bag
($12.99)

This limited edition bag features a skunk brush that works beautifully on the cheeks. This bag is a MUST have.

Train case
($14.99)

This baby sits at my office and holds those “What if I have to freshen up?” goodies.

EcoTools has done it again. Great quality with eco-friendly high quality brushes and bags? And they’re affordable? EcoTools, will you marry me?

Okay, I got ahead of myself. My bad. You can find these kids where ever EcoTools products are sold including your favorite drugstore and Ulta stores.

EcoTools has more than brushes now?

Ya’ll know how much of an EcoTools nut I am. I have just about ALL of their brushes. Every time I get an email about brushes for newbies, I recommend EcoTools. It is SO hard to find brushes that are not only that is not only affordable but are great in quality as well. Aaaand….they are green! That is something we can all love.

Well well well…my EcoTools fam is expanding and bringing us body products. I got my hands on the body splash and lotion. Are they up to par? Or should EcoTools just stick to brushes?

Blooming Planet Body Mist

Price: 4 out of 5 ($7, not bad, not bad.)
Packaging: 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

What it claims:
“This Body Mist instantly transports you to a blooming botanical garden with a bright and fresh floral scent. Refresh your natural wellness with this captivating blend of elegant floral blooms. Smells great and feel great, inside your world and out.”

The truth:
Not bad…not bad at all!!

What I loved about it: It lasts for quite some time for a body mist.

What I didn’t like:
It’s a tad bit strong so a good spritz or two just do you good.

Overall: I like body mists. But I haven’t purchased one in quite some time. I am more of perfume and body oil kind of gal but I think body mists are wonderful for traveling or right before bed when you want a nice light scent.

I don’t know what it is about me and why I feel like I need to spritz a mist a dozen times. LOL….it’s like I feel incomplete if I don’t spray it a good 5 times or so. So dramatic, I know but this mist really does go a long way. A good pump or two should do you good.

I’m serious. More than that and people will smell you comin’ a mile away. And true to their claim, EcoTools keeps it simple on the ingredient list.

I totally recommend this mist if you are desirous of nice and clean scent.

Sustainable Softness Body Lotion

Price: 4 out of 5 ($7.99)
Packaging: 4 out of 5
Overall: 3 out of 5

What it claims:
“For those seeking intense moisture, look no further than this body lotion that is 98% from nature. Sustainable Softness features nourishing shea butter, which easily absorbs into skin and leaves it feeling silky and smooth. Skin will instantly feel hydrated and sustain your softness.”

The truth:
Hmmm, I can dig it!

What I loved about it: Of course I love the smell. It is very light but has a nice shea butter-y scent that I like.

What I didn’t like: The bottle is a little wonky. It is a little hard to squeeze but I would imagine it will really become difficult when I get low on product. Not the biggest problem. Just something I noticed.

Overall: Way to go EcoTools. I am so proud of you and this lotion. It’s not bad at all! I can be quite the Ash Queen when I want to be. I’m talkin’ elbows so white that it looks like I was playing in flour.

I’m being dramatic again but I like that EcoTool’s lotion can tackle my dry skin. And it is a rich lotion that does on nice and thick.

What’s in this baby, you say?

I hope that in the near future we see butters from EcoTools. They would be perfect for winter! For right now, though, I’ll continue being BFFs with the lotion.
Yay to go EcoTools!! I am glad to see them branch out from just brushes to bring us the fabulousness that is body care products. Who knows…..maybe in the near future you will bring us lipglosses and eyeliners–all green and affordable. The thought alone excites me!
What do you think? Impressed at EcoTool’s newest venture? Interested in trying?

You can find these products, including a hand cream and body wash at Walgreens nationwide!

Newbie Post: Cheap Brushes 101

Ahh yes….it’a another post for “Newbie News”. Brushes!! One of the most common questions I get is, “Where can I get good and cheap brushes?”

Giiiirl, lemme tell you. I know some may say that MAC Cosmetics brushes are the best and that else nothing is comparable, but I don’t think that’s true. While I do love the quality and overall performance of MAC brushes, I think that there are other phenomenal brushes for half the price.

Say hello to my babies…
(from left to right)

-EcoTools retractable Kabuki brush ($7.99)
-Eyebrow grooming comb and brush (I don’t know where I got this from, hmmm…)
-Sonia Kashuk blending brush ($7.99 from Target. Get it HERE)
-Studio Tools concealer brush (around $3 from Target)
-Sonia Kashuk small eyeshadow brush ($9.99 from Target. Get it HERE)
-Studio Tools eyeshadow brush (around $3 from Target)
-The Body Shop lip brush (under $10 from The Body Shop)

First up….

Ecotools retractable Kabuki brush

EcoTools, the company and products will always have my heart. I have yet to be disappointed with any of their products. This Kabuki brush is absolutely wonderful. It works great for an all over face powder and if you squeeze the bristles, it functions well as a blush brush. Got sensitive skin? Don’t worry….these bristles are so amazingly soft. Using this brush is such a treat. And it’s under $10!!

Eyebrow grooming comb and brush

I don’t know where I got this baby from but I know it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. For my naturally bushy brows, this is must! Yes, my comb lost a few teeth…lol, don’t yall laugh at me!

Sonia Kashuk blending brush

Oh yes! This blending brush rocks! It is super soft and does a good job at….blending. With a light hand you can get a nice distribution of color on the crease. With a heavier hand, you can bang out a sexy smokey eye. I also find that it is good at giving me a nice wash of color under the browbone.

Studio Tools concealer brush

Honestly….I don’t see why you would even need to spend an insane amount of money on a concealer brush. This is the only one that I have ever had and it works perfectly! I depend on concealer since I don’t wear foundation and I love that this brush applies smoothly. Rinse it out thoroughly and it can be good at foiling (used wet) shadows or pigments. Heyy!! Yall know I love multi-purpose products.

Studio Tools eyeshadow brush

Any time I wear eyeshadow, I am usually applying it with THIS brush. For it to be so cheap, it applies shadows flawlessly. I usually take this one with me on my travels.

Sonia Kashuk small eye shadow brush

I think this was one of my first brushes! And I’ve still got her around. This brush is perfect for ladies with smaller lids. Or perhaps you like applying shadows on the inner-V. This brush gets it done!

The Body Shop lip brush

This was my first (oh wait….it’s my only) lip brush and I got it on sale at The Body Shop for a good $5. I love it for when I really want to make lips the focus of a look. It allows me to blend my liner and lipstick as well as applying MAC Tendertone balms on the lippies.

There’s my little guide to cheap but amazing brushes. My entire stash of brushes?

The travel brushes are stashed in the traveling case. They apologized for not being able to make a guest appearance. HA! I don’t see myself investing in any more brushes…..at least not for awhile. If you have good and long-lasting ones, you won’t need to!

Do you have any of these brushes?

Do you normally spend a nice chunk of change on your brushes or do you like ‘em cheap?

[EDIT]
Readers/Twitter fam also suggest the following cheap brushes:

-E.L.F. brushes
-Coastal Scents
-Crown Brushes (co-sign!! I have some of these that I love…they are so cheap!)
-Sigma Brushes
