Black-Owned Beauty Brands at The Makeup Show NYC 2016

I’ve had a few weeks to come down from the high that was The Makeup Show 2016. Good times, y’all. Good times. I not only did a few things that scared me, but I had much needed time with my girls, ate some REALLY good food and just enjoyed a few days without washing dishes.

You’re laughing but shoot, man. Mom life is mostly of me washing dish after dish every single day. Instead of rambling about the show in its entirety, I’ll just highlight a few of the brands that I was so glad to see. Can we say YAY to Black-owned?!

A little glance at the show. It was busyyyy!

Now now, buttercups…don’t be all uptight over my pride and adoration for James Vincent and his team for providing a space for brands of all backgrounds to shine. This is a big deal. The reality is this – you don’t see a lot of Black-owned cosmetic lines. You just don’t. I can make many assumptions as to why this is but when I do see Black-owned beauty lines, you better believe that I’m investigating and supporting. I’m just so grateful to see people that look like me offer cosmetics at such a huge trade show.

The Makeup Show NYC 2016 – I’ll be there!

The Makeup Show NYC

Eeeek! I can’t believe it. I’ve gotten out of my nerves and now I’m ready to go! I haven’t been to TMS NYC is yearsssss and I’m thrilled to return to the Big Apple for one of the most iconic beauty shows in the industry. I went to the Orlando show and had a ball. Since I’ll be without my Bub this time, I can get my networking game on. I plan on meeting up with fellow bloggers, sitting in on a few sessions and getting up and close with some brands. The brands on my list?

  • AJ Crimson Beauty
  • Magnolia Makeup
  • NYX Cosmetics
  • Mario Badescu
  • Sephora
  • Zuca
  • Kat Von D Beauty
  • Shea Moisture

And as far as speakers? I can’t wait to hear Wende Zomnir of Urban Decay Cosmetics tell the story of how she got to where she is in the cosmetics world. Posts will be slow but if you don’t already, follow me on Instagram and Twitter please do so as I’ll be live-tweeting and posting pictures like a mad woman. I may even try a go at Facebook Live so make sure you’re signed up to be notified each time I update the page.

Sound good? Sweeeeet!!

The Makeup Show Orlando 2016

The Makeup Show Orlando

And once again…I made it! It’s starting to be a bit of a joke with my blogger gal pals and me that every time I make my way to The Makeup Show Orlando, I’ve got a baby in tow. Sure enough, Bub made his beauty show debut at the show and except for the minor whining he did during the Blogger Preview, I think my boy did a grand job. He shot the ladies lot of smiles and had an enjoyable time snugging up with Titi Ellis.

You know your friends love when you when they’re willing to wear your baby so you can enjoy the show a bit. And enjoy, I did! This year, many of the girls in the Beauty Bloggers of Central Florida group commented on how there weren’t as many attendees this year. I noticed that, too. It was nice to be able to walk down not-so-packed aisles. Brands like NARS, Make Up For Ever and Crown Brush were still packed but even still, their tables were walkable. Which is always appreciated.

Get in the Groove and Love Life

Get in the Groove

Good ole’ Clumps has been around for almost 8 years and y’all have been with me through so much. I’ve had so many exciting life changes in those 8 years. I went from being a freshly graduated single gal in California to being all professional’ish, married and someone’s mama. That last one still shocks because seriously…I had a kid? And I eloped? And I ran 10 races last year? Basically, life just keeps steadily increasing in many departments and I’m just grateful to continue to get a breath to see it happening.

MAC Cosmetics’ Newest Store Opening with Madison Beer! #MACSelfie

Can I get some props for my insane turnaround time? I got to attend the very cool opening of MAC’s Florida Mall location with recording artist Madison Beer…yesterday. YES. I went yesterday and managed to get a post up today. I am impressed with myself.

Madison Beer

Also impressive is this new location. Ohmigoodness y’all. Yes, the Florida Mall has had a MAC location for many years but Orlando is the getting the first ever youth concept store. Because of its C-shaped and open environment design, consumers will have the opportunity to really get up close and personal with the products.

MAC Cosmetics

There is a looooong table in the store where you can casually stroll by and pick up this shadow, swatch this liner, remove it all and start over again. As always, the stunning and helpful MAC artists are there to answer all questions. You really need to see this store in person to get an idea of how fantastic it is. I think it will be a huge hit and I hope MAC gives us more of these stores nationwide and worldwide.

So in honor of the store’s opening, the very talented singer Madison Beer came out to chat with some of us bloggers and do selfies with her fans!

Interviewing Madison Beer

Margaret from Beauty and the Beat and I both got to chat with Madison and for being only 15 years old, the girl has serious style and poise. She’s such a sweetheart! Of course she’s an enormous MAC Cosmetics fan and when I asked her to pick between a red and pink lipstick, she picked…pink! Rihanna is her makeup idol and she schooled me on how to achieve those dark and luscious lashes of hers. She says that applying the mascara on top can really bring out the lashes.  I loved to hear her say one of her tips to younger makeup lovers is to keep it simple; to not cake on makeup and to still aim for a natural look. I absolutely agree and it was so refreshing to know that not ALL teenage girls feel the need to pile on the makeup.

Shortly after our interviews, one lucky fan got the opportunity to get a signed copy of Madison’s album AND she got her makeup done by Madison.

This girlie could not have been more adorable. She couldn’t stop smiling and had such a good time letting her favorite singer do her makeup! And because it’s 2014 and it’s what everyone does, selfies happened!

#MACSelfie

For a minute I kinda wanted to be 15 again. Maybe. Eh. I don’t know. Kinda?

While Madison continued to take selfies with the loooooong line of fans outside of the store, I got a chance to chat with MAC Cosmetics Artist Florida Mall, Desiree Rodriguez.

MAC Desiree Rodriguez

Desiree is everything. She’s ridiculously talented, knowledgeable about her stuff and is such a fantastic teacher. She had me feelin’ like I too could achieve her iconic winged liner. Mmmm. We’ll see. She also had Margaret and me falling in love with Lady Danger lipstick (Desiree’s favorite lipstick of all time) and she gave Margaret’s brows such a beautiful fix.

Beauty and the Beat

But really it was Mina of MinaSlater.com’s  transformation that really made me happy. This gorgeous girl doesn’t wear red lipsticks! I am on a mission to get every woman to at least TRY red lipstick and when Desiree picked up Viva Glam Rihanna for Mina, I just knew some magic would happen. And it did.

Princess Mina

Let this be a lesson to you, girls. WEAR RED LIPSTICK! Haha, I’m kidding. Not really, though. 😎

I am so so excited for this new layout! The Florida Mall is such an ideal location because of the tourist traffic and its convenient location – right next to the Food Court! I tend to shop at a MAC store closer to my home, but I don’t know…I’m thinkin’ this location is worth the trip.
