The Makeup Show Orlando and the awesomeness that ensued!

Ohmigoodness, The Makeup Show Orland was epic, y’all. I mean, I knew it would be a big deal but when the day actually came, I was floored. I didn’t even get to do half of what I wanted to do at this show. Which sucks. Walking big beauty shows is already a daunting task but it’s a freaking workout when you’re 7 months pregnant.

DSC_2751-001

Sometimes I forget that I’m pregnant. It sounds crazy, I know but my belly isn’t ginormous so I feel like I can do the same things I did pre-pregnancy. Um no. My poor feet got all swollen (sexy, uh?) and fatigue hit me within only a few hours of being at the show. But I did what I could picture-wise when I was there.

The show was held at The Peabody Hotel in Pointe Orlando. There were more than 60 brands in attendance and we would have seen more except Hurricane Sandy messed things up a bit. But the vendors that were there were welcomed by over 2,000 beauty professionals. But first things first. My girls Courtney of Phyrra.net and Cristina of Let Them Have Polish and I, along with Koren of EnKore Makeup and Elessa of Pursebuzz rocked our beauty blogging panel.

DSC_2706

I mean, rocked! The crowd was packed and the 5 did such a great job at answering questions and keeping the crowd interested. Shortly after the panel, I chit chatted with a few Clumps of Mascara lovers and then flewwwww to Elessa’s booth.

Please check out her Hello Kitty shoes. *faints* I stocked up on her glitzy and shimmery jewelry and baubles.

And then I made my way over to Tia Dantzler’s booth.

DSC_2714

Words can’t express how much I love celebrity makeup artist Tia Dantzler. I first met at a blogging conference and have been loving her ever since. Aside from being crazy talented, she is such an inspiration to makeup artists everywhere. She recently released her FIRST makeup DVD. But more about that later.

It’s pretty lame of me to not have many pictures of me with my beauty blogging sisters. In fact, I only have a few.

DSC_2723

Shortly after linking up with some of my girls, I ran into Cat getting her makeup matched at AJ Crimson’s booth. He recently launched a foundation line and the shades were people of darker hues. Holla!

The Make Up For Ever booth is always doing something spectacular at beauty shows.

And then I stopped by the Cult Nails booth!

DSC_2741

I am obviously a member of this cult so I was so excited for Maria and her super supportive husband.

And that about wraps up my photos. Pretty pathetic, I know. I had an amazing time and I’m so glad that that the show made its way to Orlando. I’m actually thinking about going to The Makeup Show in NYC again. You know, if Baby Clumps will allow.

Baby Clumps: 29 Weeks + Baby Shower Pics

2012-11-13

Looks like Baby Clumps and I are well into third trimester and things are looking really really good. I seriously don’t have ANY complaints. Which is crazy because last update all I did was complain. I’m starting to discover that I’m having a pretty smooth pregnancy. Well, you know, AFTER I got through the hell that was 1st trimester. The first 4 months was absolutely miserable but now? It’s not so bad. More than anything, I’m starting to look a bit pregnant and my body is just sore. All the time.

But, of course it depends on the day. I’m starting to understand that maybe I just won’t be that pregnant woman with the ginormous belly. And maybe that ginormous belly will pop up in the next month or so. *shrugs* Either way, I ain’t stressin’ it. Especially since my midwife keeps confirming that Bean is growing beautifully.

What Bean is up to,

“If you’ve been feeling weird little fluttering butterflies in your belly, it’s not just your run-of-the-mill pre-birth performance anxiety. Actually, it’s your amazing baby with a case of the hiccups: a fairly common occurrence at this point, due to them practicing breathing for their big birthday. In addition to getting a round of butterfly-like hiccups, your little swimmer has arduously managed to accumulate enough baby fat to account for nearly 3.5% of their overall body weight.” (source)

I’ve felt those hiccups and it’s just the cutest thing in the world to me. I’ve also felt Bean’s monstrous kicks. Those kicks used to be adorable and now they have become so jarring that at any given moment I am left yelping and sinking into my seat. They aren’t painful. Just uncomfortable. I’ve learned her movements though. She’s most active between the hours of 9-11am and then again between 7-9pm. I’ll feel tiny kicks throughout the day but those are the hours she likes to go nuts.

Physically, I am a lot better than I was a few weeks ago. The chiropractor’s fix has me sleeping without much trouble and my neck and back are still A-OK. My legs hurt though so I stopped the walking a mile a day thing and now I’m down to just half a mile a day which sucks. I get insane leg cramps in the middle of the night which wake me up regularly but I’ve discovered that as long as I drink like 90 oz of water a day (which I do without fail), the cramps don’t bug me. I also passed my glucose test with flying colors!

Baby shower pics! These are unedited but I still wanted to share with the Clumps fam. I had about 30+ guests and family members there and it was so so beautiful. Sally Hansen and JOHNSON’S Baby sponsored shower gifts and prizes. The shower had a fall-inspired thing and I was okay with any kind of decoration that wasn’t doused in pink. We had a brunch shower at CRAVE, a restaurant I’ve featured before on Clumps. I hosted a beauty blogger event there before and I love love LOVE their food and service.

Yummy sweet treats…

Game time! But just 2. I didn’t want to have that “traditional” cheesy games-type shower.

Mama Clumps moved me to tears when she gifted me a box full of my old baby clothes and sentimental toys. I literally couldn’t talk for a few minutes because I was so choked up.

P.S. – Most of the men that arrived were family. And they eventually left and went to the restaurant’s bar (including my Dad and Esposo). Ha! That’s proof that most men really don’t want to be at baby showers. It’s true, ladies. I think most only go because their women drag ‘em along.

My sisters.

It was a beautiful shower and I was so so glad to see so many friends and family members. I wanted a fun “not so baby shower-y” shower and I think it worked out beautifully.

Quick Bean Stats!

Weight Gain: 2 lbs.

Energy?: For the most part, I’m okay but still like to be in bed or prepping for bed by 10pm every night. Then again, that was me pre-pregnancy. Ha!

Fears: I’m feeling pretty fearless these days.

Cravings: Still none.

Join me and Chevy for a Pregnancy Pick-Me-Up!

Soooo, guess who’s doing another awesome event with Chevy? I aaaaam! And I’m beyond excited about it because this event is specifically for preggo chicas like myself.

If you’ve been a Clumps of Mascara reader for awhile, you may have seen some of my Chevy posts. I’ve done a lot of Cruze-in’ with the brand. I explored Orlando with my fellow blogger friends, got a sugar rush during Valentine’s Day and  hosted a pizza crawl. Chevy knows how to have a good time so I’ll be partyin’ with them for as long as I can.

Do you know any pregnant mamas in or around the Orlando area? Tell ‘em to join me next Wednesday for a fun Chevy-sponsored event. As the flyer says, spots are limited to if you or someone you know is interested, RSVP with the quickness. Don’t hesitate to email me with any questions.

Stay tuned for more update of this event. You know I’m takin’ pictures, right?

Miami Event – The Garnier Greener Tour

My homegirl and Miami blogger Jewel of Jewel’s Fab Life is hosting the Garnier Greener Tour this Friday from 4pm-6pm in Miami. I’m all kinds of jealous that I can’t attend. It’ll be an epic event for several reasons…

  • The beauty pimped out Garnier bus will park its sexy self at a Walmart parking lot. What’s inside the bus? Garnier goodies, cupcakes and information on how we can recycle our cosmetic packaging.
  • TerraCycle’s partnership with Garnier means there will be bins on site to encourage you to bring old shampoo, conditioner, and lotion bottles to recycle.
  • Hairstylists will be on site in case you’d like to upgrade your locks a bit.
  • There will be plenty of games and activities.
  • You’ll get to hang out with Jewel!

The event is absolutely free but you do need to RSVP to confirm your attendance. If you make it – tell Jewel I said “hi!” For more information, check out Jewel’s post here.

March Meetup of the Beauty Bloggers of Central Florida group

Soooo, guess who hosted the March meetup of the Beauty Bloggers of Central Florida group? Meeeee! It was so epic, y’all. As much of as I love my girlfriends, sometimes talking beauty talk with them just….doesn’t work. And the same goes for blogging. But to be able to be around 20 beautiful and talented women who get the whole beauty obsession and blogging thing was just pure joy!

How crazy is it that we didn’t even think about taking a group photo until about half of the girls had already left? Ha! Autumn 2011 marked my first meetup with the beauty bloggers in Orlando. And even then, there were less than 10 of us. We had a grand time swapping polishes, chowin’ down on yummy food and networking. Months passed, a few tweets were exchanged between us gals and I said, “Let’s get the ball rolling for another meetup.”

And so we did.

I reached out to some of my favorite brands (as did some of the other ladies) to see if they were interested in providing product samples of us bloggers. Through Twitter and Facebook, I tried to rally up as many beauty bloggers that I could find – and on March 3rd, we had our meetup!

I forgot to take pictures. Yah. I was so annoyed with myself for not taking ANY pictures but between attempting to being a good hostess and rummaging through the hundreds of bottles of polish that we brought him to swap and trade, taking pics just didn’t happen. But tons of  thanks to Pamela because she took fantastic photos.

We are already planning the next meetup and I can’t waiiiiit. If you are a beauty blogger, beauty enthusiast or makeup artist and are looking for other beauty lovers in your neck of the woods, put some feelers out there. I would have never thought we’d have a group of 20-something. Who knows? By the end of the year, we may have over 50 beauty bloggers at our next meetup.

See. Orlando is so much more than Mickey Mouse, y’all. We’ve got Premiere Orlando coming in June, The Makeup Show Orlando in November  and we’ve got a crew of some of the hottest bloggers around. Oooooh yeah.

Special thanks to our sponsors: Milani, Milani, Avon, Venomous Cosmetics, Cult Nails, tarte Cosmetics , Pure Ice, Overall Beauty, CVS Beauty and NYX Cosmetics.

As far as the fabulous ladies who were at the event – they are listed below.

-Ali of niftyBA!

Orlando Event: Fashion Quest 2012!

For a loooooong time, I didn’t think Orlando was considered “cool” when it came to beauty and fashion events. Well, scoot over Mickey because in a few years, Orlando will be known for more than just the home of Walt Disney World. If you’re in the Orlando area and looking for something fun to do this upcoming weekend, join me at Fashion Quest.

I’ll be on the scene to cover the event and hobnob with the many talented beauty and fashion folx of the greater Orlando area.
