MAC Venomous Villains party

Let me tell y’all something about Orlando, Florida…it’s more than just Disney World. I know…shocker, right? Having lived here for 2.25 years, I can tell you that nothing annoys Orlando residents more than people asking about Disney World and Mickey Mouse. While I love Brotha Mouse, I haven’t seen that homeboy in years. Orlando has sites and locations that most visitors don’t see because they stay in the Disney World and Universal Studio areas. The Mall at Millenia would not be one of those places though.

Despite it being full of tourists, I kinda dig Millenia. It just so happened to be the location for Orlando’s Fashion Week (yeah, I totally missed that too) and one of the events for Fashion Week was a MAC party hosted by the MAC Pro here in Orlando. I rolled up in that piece with a bit of an attitude. I mean, MAC is cool and all and *insert reasons for why I’m not obsessed with them as much as I used to be* and even though I was a huge Disney kid, I just wasn’t all that interested in the Venomous Villains collection.

My make-up artist Mark totally changed my mind on that. He gave me one of the fiercest looks I have EVER had.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim…I’m going!

It’s very rare that us beauty bloggin’ Floridians get cool events like this to go to so you KNOW I’ll be in South Beach this weekend live tweeting all of the happenings at Fashion Week Swim. FOTD Friday: I got Savannah on my mind

It’s time for another travel edition of FOTD! I’ve taken you to the Bahamas, NYC, Miami, Los Angeles and beyond. If you haven’t noticed yet…I LOVE to travel. A lot. Every weekend, I think about about a city I want to go to and jet there. Which is almost ridiculous because I’m discovering that Orlando has a lot to offer beyond Mickey Mouse’s house. And since I plan to do little to no traveling this summer (a sista has to save some pennies, know what I mean?), you’ll be seeing a lot more in my own backyard travels.

But in the meantime…let me take you to a quaint Southern city called Savannah, Georgia.

I love the South. There is a certain kind of home-y feel that I get when I visit Louisiana, North Florida and South Georgia. Sometimes I think I can make it in the big city (failed that mission when I moved to LA..ha!) but when I really think about it, I think I am really made for Southern living. This Memorial Day trip was taken with the family. I don’t remember ever going to Savannah before but Mama Clumps keeps telling me that I went once with my Girl Scout troop. Did y’all know Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts was from Savannah? Any other former or current Girl Scouts?

*crickets*

Mmkaaaay, moving on! The trip up to Savannah from Orlando was almost 5 hours. Shooooot! This was my first time taking I-95 N in all of its hellish construction. First thing I did when I arrived was take a tour. Which I kinda had an attitude about. I’m like, “Forget a tour! Let’s just walk around.” But I ended up really enjoying it.

Savannah has some of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. This coming from a modern girl in a modern world. I never really had an appreciation for older style buildings and homes until I saw homes like this.

and this…

That home was considered a single family home. Can you believe that? It’s huge! It was later turned in a school. I found so much beauty in the homes and surroundings that I tried to be Ms. Photographer with everything.

Now because I’m not a good listener, I was so wrapped up in photo-taking, I missed A LOT of details and history. One time for multi-tasking!

Savannah was established in 1733. And the buildings show it!

The detail on this church is just breathtaking. And don’t these shutters tell a story?

We passed a lot of homes that had little plaques on them just showing how old they were.

And how cute is this itty bitty house? Interesting color.

What’s North Florida and South Georgia without Spanish moss? I grew up around this stuff but never really saw its beauty until now.

Moss is a living plant and doesn’t harm the tree that it grows on. In case you were wondering. :)

Savannah is also home to one of the oldest African American Baptist congregations in the United States, the First African Baptist Church.

The tour guide told us that there were tunnels in the church that led to the Underground Railroad. My mouth was left hanging open because although I kinda knew that (African American History was my major in college), it was just so moving and emotional for me to see that. Talk about being a true history nerd!

After we hopped off of the tour bus, we roamed around the city and ran into an outdoor market.

I purchased the most beautiful glass earrings for Mama Clumps. Actually I bought them for myself but in attempts to be selfless, I figured she would like them too. ;) We went down to the riverfront.

…and enjoyed the breeze.

And then there’s the food! I was still on the road when the family went to Paula Deen’s restaurant. *insert fuming emoticon* We headed over to Tybee Island and ate at The Crab Shack. I’m not the biggest seafood fan so I can’t properly judge that spot. Savannah Candy Kitchen on the other hand…*faints*

This place was amazing! Every kind of old skool candy was there. They literally passed out samples of everything! I had the BEST peanut brittle. I had my first grit cake at The Bohemian and that was seriously the best tasting meal EVER! The flavors, the richness, the boldness, oh my!

We had a slammin’ breakfast at J. Christopher’s where I had an egg white omelet with avocados, spinach, tomatoes, grits and a side of buttah.

The latter I left sittin’ there but that omelet was delish! The last dinner of the trip was at Garibaldi’s Cafe which didn’t impress me too much. The food was decent but the service was the pits.

It’s hard to do Savannah in a weekend. My sister and I missed jumping on a Ghost Tour and I didn’t get to stop by any boutiques or shops. Another reason to go back!

Have you ever been to Savannah? From there? Want to visit?

Off I go to Miami this weekend. This upcoming week is Clumps’ 3-year anniversary Week. There won’t be any formal posts or reviews. Instead there will be giveaways totaling up to

$1,500!

You excited yet?

Have a great weekend!

The Makeup Show NYC 2010 *pic heavy*

This will be one picture heavy post, kiddos. Instead of breaking up the show in installments like I did last year, I decided to do one big ginormous post of my experience. And of course I’ll be doing a ton of product reviews.

This year was all about networking with fellow beauty bloggers! And boy oh boy did I run into a lot of them. A lot of my fellow beauty bloggin’ sisters are really my friends. I love these girls even though I only see them a few times a year.

Recognize any of your favorite bloggers? Like last year, Make Up For Ever was runnin’ thangs.

And for good reason too. Their new HD blushes (picked up one)

And aqua creams (picked up one)

…are nothing short of amazing. Expect reviews on both. Inglot was also in the building.

I wasn’t as geeked up as I normally am over Inglot. Maybe the thrill is gone or maybe it was the 502 people that were crowding their booth. I managed to snap a shot of some of their mascaras.

I didn’t pick them up but I wonder how good they are.

I then strolled over to brands that I really wanted to try out. Brands like Mario Badescu.

This brand had me at hello with the Drying Lotion that I can’t stop bragging about. I’ll be reviewing them a lot more on Clumps. And for very good reason!

Ahh, body art is always a huge thing at the Makeup Show. One minute you could be standing to your homegirl and the next thing you know a lady like this rolls up on you.

Make-up is such art, uh?

While I was busy attending my best friend’s law school graduation in Florida Saturday afternoon, my college girlfriend Krys represented Clumps at the Blogger Preview. Krys is silly like me. I was telling her how crazy it would be if an iPad was as big as MacBook and could be used like a phone.

Uh, maybe you had to be there.

I missed a great deal of the seminars thanks to my inability to stay at one place for more than 3 minutes but I did snag 4 polishes from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.

Stay tuned for reviews! The super talented Eve Pearl came out again this year.

Did I miss anything?

Probably. More reason for you to stay tuned to see what other adventures The Makeup Show brought!

Quick shots from The Makeup Show 2010

Happy Monday, darlings!

Yes, yes…yours truly totally forgot to schedule a Mascara Monday. But don’t worry, I have SO many things to share with you that I hope you forgive me. *flashes huge smile*

I am having the BEST time here in New York at The Makeup Show NYC. Mind if I tease you with a few shots?

Colors colors!

Skin care, win care (I’m so lame, ha)!

Bloggers and friends. Life got better when I met the phenomenal bloggers behind Afrobella and All About The Pretty. Add the fabulous Lianne from The Makeup Girl to that list.

Yinka from Vex In City, Adina from Krasey Beauty and Brittany from Clu—yeah, you know that part. :)

The lunch date of beautiful and amazing and TALENTED ladies reppin’ Boston (Bawstun), DC, Brooklyn and the FLA!

Tis all for now, sweetums. I’m like SO behind schedule this morning. Amina from Coup de Couer and I are bunkin’ in Queens and we have to take the 7 train to the 1 train…or somethin’ like that. My navigation is really only limited to the A and C trains. I’ll probably get lost. HA!

Anything you’d like to me focus on at The Makeup Show NYC? Shoot me an email at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com or tweet me and I’ll take pictures and get information just for you!

I shall return, lovelies! Have a great day!

The Makeup Show NYC 2010

Okay kids…who’s going this year? Of course your favorite Florida ball of sunshine is making the trek up to NYC this weekend to cover everything I can about The Makeup Show. I’m not sure how I’m feeling about NYC’s chilly weather so NYCers, please tell your city I’d like a mid-80’s, light breeze, no cloudy skies and no rain. Mkay?

No really…if you are going, I would love to meet you. Just promise you won’t act all funny if I make an un-funny joke. Ha!! If you have never gone or aren’t familiar with The Powder Group’s Makeup Show, it’s like…HUGE! It’s a big 2-day industry event open only to those in the makeup artist industry. That includes make-up artists (of course), cosmetology students, hair stylists, agents and more. See you there!

Iman and Clumps!

If you haven’t been following the Clumps’ Facebook fan page or my tweets, I was selected as a winner for a contest by Iman Cosmetics. Yes, I died when I found out. I was one of those kids that never even won a game in Bingo. I was flown to NYC, put up in the fabulous Affinia Shelburne and attended a blogger exclusive event.

Thanks to the Facebook fam, I got some ideas of how to wear my make-up. And the Twitter fam helped me feel confident in my dress…

Because, I don’t know if y’all know it or not but I am not much of a fashionista. I can get by and look fly but it ain’t easy. Ha!

And I spent some time playing with Iman Cosmetics and chatting with the ever fabulous Iman!!

Yep, we’re BFFs now. :)

I’m headed to the airport to jump on a flight back home. Stay tuned event details, lots more pictures and a video too. In the meantime, check out IMAN Cosmetics’ Facebook photo album of the event here. Y’all love how my bra strap is showing in one of the pictures, right? Classic B!

Ciao for now, loves!

Degree Women Natureffects collection

Degree has won my heart over with the launch of their Natureffects collection. A few weeks ago Degree reached out to a few bloggers and sent us on a hunt to discover the meaning behind this collection. They sent us goodies representing each of the senses.

For smell, we got…

A beautiful bouquet of flowers. And for sight…

A pair of chic Tory Burch shades.

Taste…

A delicious orange and olive oil cake.

And for the sense of sound…

My girl Mary J’s newest album!

All of this led up to the Natureffects Collection

The fragrances Honeysuckle & Tea Tree Oil, Olive Leaf & Pink Pepper and Orange Flower and Cranberry are all inspired by nature and help heighten all of the body’s natural senses. Genius! Of course they all smell just divine. Orange Flower and Cranberry is my favorite.

And guess who performed at the FREE (!!!) launch party on March 22nd?

None other than Mary J. Blige in all of her fabulousness. I wasn’t able to attend the party so I played one of my favorite song by her and rocked out.

Kudos to Degree for not only releasing an awesome collection of deodorants and body mists but for connecting with bloggers. I also love their “daring to join forces with nature” theme. It’s true. Spending  some time nature does wonders for your mood. You can purchase the Natureffects collection anywhere deodorants are sold for $3.99.

Rock on, Degree!!

Photo of Mary came from Degree Women’s Facebook fan page. Join it here!
This review contains a sample product sent for post consideration. I was contacted my Degree and participated in their blogger outreach. I did not purchase the following gifts nor was I paid to write this post. Read our disclosure policy here.
