Iman and Clumps!

If you haven’t been following the Clumps’ Facebook fan page or my tweets, I was selected as a winner for a contest by Iman Cosmetics. Yes, I died when I found out. I was one of those kids that never even won a game in Bingo. I was flown to NYC, put up in the fabulous Affinia Shelburne and attended a blogger exclusive event.

Thanks to the Facebook fam, I got some ideas of how to wear my make-up. And the Twitter fam helped me feel confident in my dress…

Because, I don’t know if y’all know it or not but I am not much of a fashionista. I can get by and look fly but it ain’t easy. Ha!

And I spent some time playing with Iman Cosmetics and chatting with the ever fabulous Iman!!

Yep, we’re BFFs now. :)

I’m headed to the airport to jump on a flight back home. Stay tuned event details, lots more pictures and a video too. In the meantime, check out IMAN Cosmetics’ Facebook photo album of the event here. Y’all love how my bra strap is showing in one of the pictures, right? Classic B!

Ciao for now, loves!

Degree Women Natureffects collection

Degree has won my heart over with the launch of their Natureffects collection. A few weeks ago Degree reached out to a few bloggers and sent us on a hunt to discover the meaning behind this collection. They sent us goodies representing each of the senses.

For smell, we got…

A beautiful bouquet of flowers. And for sight…

A pair of chic Tory Burch shades.

Taste…

A delicious orange and olive oil cake.

And for the sense of sound…

My girl Mary J’s newest album!

All of this led up to the Natureffects Collection

The fragrances Honeysuckle & Tea Tree Oil, Olive Leaf & Pink Pepper and Orange Flower and Cranberry are all inspired by nature and help heighten all of the body’s natural senses. Genius! Of course they all smell just divine. Orange Flower and Cranberry is my favorite.

And guess who performed at the FREE (!!!) launch party on March 22nd?

None other than Mary J. Blige in all of her fabulousness. I wasn’t able to attend the party so I played one of my favorite song by her and rocked out.

Kudos to Degree for not only releasing an awesome collection of deodorants and body mists but for connecting with bloggers. I also love their “daring to join forces with nature” theme. It’s true. Spending  some time nature does wonders for your mood. You can purchase the Natureffects collection anywhere deodorants are sold for $3.99.

Rock on, Degree!!

Photo of Mary came from Degree Women’s Facebook fan page. Join it here!
This review contains a sample product sent for post consideration. I was contacted my Degree and participated in their blogger outreach. I did not purchase the following gifts nor was I paid to write this post. Read our disclosure policy here.

Dove Visibly Smooth party

I love hosting parties! Planning them has always been a struggle for me though. BUT somehow my parties always end up being a blast with memories made.

Dove sponsored this Girl’s Night Out party and I decided to have it in Tallahassee, Florida. Yeah, uh..absolutely NOTHING goes on there unless it’s football season or legislative session so I had to liven up the city a bit. LOL!

Dove gave us a gift card and told us that we could eat where-ever we wanted. But they wanted us to ride in style.

That’s right…we headed to the Macaroni Grill in a hot stretch limo.

And on our way there a few of the guests and I had some fun with the Flip video cam that Dove gave us. Check this out:

Earlier that day Mama Clumps helped me grab some items for goody bags.

Each guest received a Dove Visibly Smooth deodorant, a lip gloss, nail polish, a mascara (of course), en eye shadow, a Hello Kitty mirror compact, candy, etc. We also purchased give-away prizes.

They included an EcoTools brush sets, Ms. Manicure kit, make-up removers, a Target gift card and StudioTools brushes….all of my favorite items!

During dinner I talked a little bit about Dove Visibly Smooth….

I look all serious, don’t I? HA! Throughout dinner we had “beauty trivia”. Mrs. Dee won the Ms. Manicure set!

And then we cut the Clumps cake…

Pretty yummy, uh? We had a fabulous evening! Many thanks to Dove and my guests. I’m thinking about having another party soon. Who knows…maybe I’ll be in your city!

Disclaimer: Dove sponsored this event in that I was provided a gift card, Flip video camera and transportation for me and my guests. I organized the event and was not paid to write this post. Read our disclosure policy here.

My Purple Lab par-tay!

Last week Purple Lab debuted on HSN!

Wait…you don’t know ’bout Purple Lab? Where you been, home skillet? Purple Lab is about confidence, looking and feeling sexy. It’s about rocking a purple boa and not giving a darn if your friends are laughing at you or not.

Purple Lab is a ‘double beauty duty for multi-tasking mavens’. They have innovative products like the cream blushes with collagen and lipglosses with hoodia. I love Purple Lab and was honored when they asked me throw a party in celebration of their debut on HSN.

Purple Lab’s creator Karen Robinovitz asked a few of us bloggers to host parties at home. She sent us their starting line-up of products, yummy PopChips and a big ‘ole bottle of Figenza fig flavored vodka.

SN: I’m not a drinker but Figenza with a splash of Cranberry may very well become a regular for me. How tasty! I was having a party on my own when my good friend Safia from Lipstick Mixtapes dropped by. We played around the cheek implants and Silk Sheets luxe foundation.

The foundation feels divine. It has a soufflé consistency and according to Safia (who is my go-to make-up artist) it blends to a beautiful matte finish.

While watching Karen on HSN, playing with the products and NOT watching how many glasses of Figenza I had already downed, I also joined the online party of other bloggers who were celebrating Purple Lab. They had a party in NYC and the energy was so alive that I felt like I was there!

I also tweeted…

…and I even convinced my girl Kate to buy one of the Huge Lips Skinny Hips glosses.

Hmm, I have to follow up with her and see what she thinks. Safia and I love it and consider it to me THE best tasting lip gloss EVER! And it looks pretty fab on the lips too.

Stay tuned for more Purple Lab news and reviews. In the meantime, check them out on HSN and brace yourself for more of the fierceness that is Purple Lab!

Products and snacks shown here were given to us by Purple Lab. We were not paid to write this post. Read our disclosure policy here.

Clumps in the Streets: Garnier Fructis Celebrity Styling Suite

I love Miami, y’all. Aside from it being my birthplace…there really is no other city like it. Not to mention it’s the only city in Florida where cool happ’ns are going on regularly. Central and North Florida are pretty dead when it comes to beauty events so I usually have to head 3.5 hours South if I want to get into something fun.

I was invited to Garnier Fructis Celebrity Styling Suite at the world-famous Eden Roc Hotel. I’ve stayed at the Eden Roc before (I tweeted this pic) and it is hands down one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever stayed in before. I grabbed the Clumps intern Bri and we headed down to the Garnier Bungalow.

Hit the jump to see more!

This styling suite was only open to VIP and celebrities in town for Superbowl 44. Nope..I didn’t run into any celebs this time around. I thought it would be cool if Bri got her hair done while I chit chatted with the stylists. This was a GREAT opportunity for her as she is taking a cosmetology class along with her high school studies.

I’m not sure what was used on Bri’s hair but it came out beautifully! After her styling, we roamed about the hotel.

Bri a posin’…

She couldn’t stop touching her hair. Gorg!

My nails got a lot of questions. Most people thought they were Minx-ed.

But nope…another production of my konad nail art stamping kit!

I jetted out of the city before Superbowl so while it was a quick trip, Bri and I had a ball. Any Garnier fans out there?

Degree Sponsored SAG awards party

So guess who had a Degree sponsored Screen Actor’s Guild award show party? Clumps of Mascara did! And we had a ball! Guests walked in to a display table of goodies….

It was later decorated with tons of door prizes. I so forgot to take a picture of that though. As ladies t
rickled in, they made their way to the manicure table.

That’s right…Serendity Day Spa came to us and treated us to wonderful fabulous manicures. And uh, wha? Do we see one of my favorite nail polish brands?

Yep! They love Zoya just as much as I do.

The ladies gave the best hand/arm massages ever! We talked beauty stuffs before the SAG awards but before we knew it, celebs were walking the red carpet and we all headed over to see the fabulous dresses and suits.

Now I only watch one current show on TV. And that’s Glee. I was pretty much the only person shrieking when I saw Mark Salling as Puck hit the screen.

Like OMG, he is soooo dreamy! And as far as our favorite dresses and make-up looks…

Diane Kruger and her orange dress…

I love love loooove this color and the style of this dress. And she’s sporting a red lip with it? We loved it! And Monique, who won an award, looked fab too.

It’s not the most colorful dress in the world but we loved her hair and make-up. Is that a Sam Fine job? After more screaming over who was hot and who was not, it was time for the big deal giveaway. A $100 gift card to Macy’s. Everyone put their name in a hat…

Except me. Because, you know….that wouldn’t be fair. LOL!

Our 9-year old name puller selected none other than Meagan from Lipstick Mixtapes. Look at her…getting her nails done all innocently.

Little did we know that she would strategically place her name in the hat so that it would be pulled. Yeah…we were hatin’. But leave it to sugary cake therapy to make us feel better.

Too bad we were too tired to play Taboo after the awards show. Ah well…maybe next Saturday!

And as far as at Degree’s Ultra Clear Satin? Loves iiiit!

Disclaimer: Degree sponsored this event in that I was provided a gift card to purchase necessities for the party. We were sent movies, their new Ultra Clear Red Satin deodorant, a Macy’s gift card to raffle and manicures by Serendipity Day Spa. I organized the event but was not paid to write this post. Happy Martin Luther King Day 2010!

In the USA, today is an observed holiday known as Martin Luther King Day. For years I have celebrated this holiday by participating in programs, parades and simply honoring the gentleman that paved the way for all people in the great U.S.A. It isn’t a day of rest for me but a day of remembrance and appreciation. While Clumps of Mascara is a beauty blog, I love incorporating a little history too.

Y’all know I’m a nerd. :)

To read about Martin Luther King and his impact in American life, click here. And if you really want an in depth history lesson about MLK and the Civil Rights Movement, watch the Eyes on the Prize series. You can find them in libraries or the neo-library known as YouTube. Here’s one video. Enjoy!

Carol’s Daughter, Princess and the Frog event

This post is oh so late. Please excuse me, darlings.

Back in November of 2009 (like that was eons ago, ha!) I had the pleasure of attending a Carol’s Daughter Princess and the Frog event in Atlanta. I LOVE me some Atlanta so it was nothing for me to take a little road trip up North.

If you didn’t know, Carol’s Daughter came out with limited edition products featuring Disney’s Princess and the Frog. See!

I know…sooooo cute, right? The set (retails for $30.50) includes a shampoo, conditioner and bubble bath for the little princess in your life.

I made it to Lenox Square Mall that cold and rainy November day just in time to see Lisa Price, the creator of Carol’s Daughter, mix up a little somethin-somethin right before our eyes.

Using salt, an essential oil blend (jojoba, rosemary, clary sage, etc), peppermint and tapioca pearls, Lisa made an amazing body scrub. We were all able to take some home and of course after I used all of mine, I made some of my own.

Loves it!

I was able to score a few seconds with Lisa in which we talked about the difficulties of transitioning from permed hair to natural hair.

She spoke about the importance of using the right products for your hair while going through that transition. Unfortunately our time was cut short and I SO didn’t get through my list of questions and to be around such an esteemed womanpreneur in her own stomping grounds was quite the honor. And I saw many ladies with beautiful locs, afros, twists and curls! Special love to Tamera who noticed me from Clumps of Mascara.

Don’t forget to grab that Princess and the Frog ‘Magical Beauty Gift Set’ before it sells out.

And have you seen the Princess and the Frog yet? Y’all know I did. It was only THE best Disney movie of all time for me. Well, it’s actually neck in neck with The Lion King but yeah….it was GREAT!
