Beauty Event: Johnson’s Body Care Cause Party, part II

Last weekend I had the opportunity to host a Johnson’s Charity party. I first blogged about the event HERE. It was more than what I ever thought it would be. Aside from having good eats and laughs, the party was able to raise a good amount of money to donate to Dress for Success. You can find out more about this awesome organization here.

I hosted it at my house it would NOT have been as successful as it was had it not been for one of my greatest friends, Ariel. She really helped me out! Here she is sitting by the sign-in table.

Yummy food and drinks…

The sign-in sheet with donation jar. And can you believe EVERYONE actually wore the name tags. Heyyyy!

A total of 16 ladies strolled in and out of my place and I was unable to get pictures of everyone. Shucks! We played Taboo, Apples to Apples and before I knew it, I was giving away a good 30 bottles of polish. Talk about Spring cleaning! My friends were excited to receive my unwanted goods and I was happy to get rid of products that I didn’t even use. Of course everyone had to get get each “deal” confirmed. No way was I giving up Essie’s Mesmerize and China Glaze’s Shower Together. LOL!

Fellow University of South Florida alumnae, Ariel and Ellis rummaging through my blue and green polishes.

Another college BFF…Krystal and her sister Alexis. Many thanks to them for driving from Tampa to attend my little shindig.

Even the law school kids found time to stop by to chit chat and snag a goody bag.

We spent a good two hours screaming and shouting over Taboo. I am a HUGE game board junkie and Taboo is one of my favorites.

The party started at 3 p.m. and people didn’t start leaving until around 8:00 p.m. But they didn’t exactly go home. We all went to…

The fair! Where everyone ended up picking on me because I was too chicken to get on…..everything. LOL! We had such a wonderful time. I mean, honestly….how many times are you able to rally up some of your favorite gal pals, have them donate to great charity, talk beauty and end the night with cotton candy and greasy vinegar soaked fries?

I’ll say it was some party! Thank you to all who attended and a special “thank you” to Johnson’s for making this possible.

Beauty Event: Johnson’s Body Care Cause Party

It’s Saturday!

…..and very rarely do I post on Saturdays but I just had to let y’all know of an amazing event coming up. Johnson’s has asked me to host a Johnson’s Body Care Cause party!

I am thrilled! On Sunday, April 26 around 3 p.m. a few of my girlfriends (and some fellas too) will come together to marvel over Johnson & Johnson goody bags, play a few games of Taboo and just enjoy each other’s company. The real purpose of the party is support a charity here in Orlando, Dress for Success. This was the charity that I selected and I am honored to be able to give to an organization that helps disadvantaged women.

Singer, Ashanti, has also gotten in on the Cause party fun! A few weeks ago, I was able to chit-chat with her on a phone conference with other beauty bloggers and pretty much found myself wanting to be Ashanti’s BFF. She is so down to earth! She too hosted a Cause party and gave us fellow hostesses some tidbits. One which included inviting sexy men over to give massages to the ladies! Okay honestly… can you not love her?

Ashanti told us her favorite Johnson’s products which include the Johnson’s 24 Hour Lotion and Wash and Baby Oil gel with Shea & Cocoa Butter.

Ohmigoodness, you all have not lived until you have tried these products!! The Body Wash alone is such a spa-like treatment. You NEED them in your life.

I will definitely be taking pictures of the party. How exciting is this! I love being able to incorporate two of my passions…beauty and helping others.

Now that’s pretty!! Have a wonderful weekend, fam!

The Makeup Show LA: Drugstore Stalking, Installment 2

Welcome back to another installment of my experience in Los Angeles for The Makeup Show LA. In the first post, we talked a little bit about The Makeup Show’s background and purpose. Let’s take a brief intermission to talk about drugstore stalking in the City of Angels.

When I lived in LA. I enjoyed nothing more than taking the 204 bus from the corner of Slauson and Vermont allllll the way down to Beverly Blvd. Before heading to the Beverly Center, I would always attack the Longs Drugs store off of Beverly and LaCienga. Longs Drugs has had a major facelift since the last time I visited.

[NOTE: While the Blackberry can save lives and make traffic lights turn green when I need it to, what it doesn’t do too well is take decent pictures. Please excuse the fuzziness.]

For one, the beauty aisle is wider and a lot more attractive.

No more

fighting bumping into fellow customers to grab your favorite on sale items. And wow….wood floors? Longs sure knows how to make a girl feel special.

If you can make your way through the beauty aisle, you will eventually run right smack into a beauty consultantation corner. Wait a second….is this Macy’s or a drugstore?

Of course these brands are a little more expensive than your Olay Complete moisturizer but it is great that the option is there. And besides, this is Beverly Hills. Spending $80 on beauty products in a drugstore is probably the norm.

And what is that I see? Hair products that require you running down a sales associate to get a key?

These babies aren’t behind glass for nothin’. These salon-sold products are also sold at Longs Drugs store locations.

I did a little research (see how much I love, yall?) and found an article from about an opening of a Longs Drugs in Carpinteria, California. It said the following about the Beauty Department,

“The beauty department is designed to encourage customers to spend time browsing, testing and touching the skin care and cosmetic product offering.” (source).

The more attractive the beauty department looks, the more time you will spend there. And the more time you spend there, the louder the items scream out at you. And the louder they scream, the more you buy.

By george, I’ve got it! It makes perfect sense. I’ve heard that this is going on at Walgreens store locations, as well.

Do you think that “beauty department” in drugstores will make you want to spend more? Did you neighborhood drugstore take a turn for the better? I’d love to know!

Until next time….

The Makeup Show LA….will you be there?

Yours truly is going back to Cali for the Makeup Show LA-style!

I haven’t been back to California since I moved away from there this time last year and I am beyond excited. What is this Makeup Show I talk about?

Click on the images below to enlarge the press release:

I will be tweeting my way around the Show, attending classes and watching the professionals at work. I plan to soak up a ton of information and I will without a doubt be relaying it back to the Clumps family.

Anyone else think they are going to be in attendance?

Better hustle and purchase your tickets STAT!

Think you will be there? Let me know so we can meet-up and you can see just how much of a mess I am in person. *big grin*

For more information visit The Makeup Show LA website.
For meet-up arrangements email me at

See you on the West Coast!

I love to travel, y’all… Really! It’s very rare that you will find me spending a nice and relaxing weekend at home. No way! I would much rather burn the streets and airways attending beauty events and shows. Or even better…hosting my own.
