A Sweaty Betty Approved Brow Gel.

Got crazy brows? Me too. I’ve complained enough about them so I’ll save the ranting for another post. While I’ve admitted to just letting them be and do their own thang, I do groom them a bit. It’s very rare that I leave the house without smoothing a brow gel over them. I mean…I kinda have to. For if I don’t, I’ll look like 2 fuzzy caterpillars attacked my face. Don’t know what I would do without my beloved Anastasia Brow Gel.

I scooped this up at Sephora a few moons ago and ohmigoodness, I LOVE it. I’m not gonna lie…it’s not the cheapest product in the world. At $21, I did quite the side eye when I spotted it.

And I’m not lyin’ when I say this brow gel was worth every penny. And here’s the thing about brow gels…when you use them reguarly, there are certain things you have to look for.

  • Non tackiness. Because honestly…who wants to deal with sticky product that will eventually make brows sticky?
  • Nice sized wand. Too big and you may end up getting brow gel everywhere and too tiny and you’ll have to do a ton of strokes.
  • Nice packaging. I’ve come across brow gels where the tops don’t close tightly enough. This, of course, will result in the gel drying out sooner rather than later.
  • Long lasting formula. Because what’s the point of wearing a brow gel if it’s just going to dissipate after a few hours? That’s wack yo.

This brow gel has it all, y’all. And a cute little wand to match.

Considering I’m a Sweaty Betty (and that’s putting it nicely) I am in love at how long this brow gel lasts. It stays put alllllllll day. And it doesn’t flake up and get all nasty either. Yes girl. This brow gel is the bomb dot com and is totally worth the 20+ dollars I spent on it.

Do you use brow gels? Or not so much?

Gettin’ down with the brows: Black Opal’s Brow Shaper

Let’s talk about something that I hardly EVER discuss on Clumps of Mascara. Brows. I am a simple brow girl. I get these bad boys threaded every 2-3 weeks, brush ‘em daily and keep on moving. Even when they start growing out of control the hairs start looking unruly, I don’t bother with trying to tame them. Less is more for me and I don’t have the time or patience to do a ton of sculpting, trimming, drawing and fancy-ing when it comes to my brows. Plus, believe it or not, I really appreciate my thicker brows. Even if they are nuts. Nothing like a waxing incident gone bad to help you appreciate what you’ve got. I got my brows destroyed by this waxer in Los Angeles over 4 years ago. Twas the worst of times.

Imagine my surprise when I ran into an eyebrow product that I actually really like. Say hello to Black Opal’s Brow Shaper.

This online exclusive $7 brow palette promises to “Achieve the look of professionally styled brows with this powder in a natural-looking shade, ideal for shaping, contouring and defining brows effortlessly. It’s the perfect quick-fix to sculpt, accentuate arches and supplement areas where brow hair is sparse.” (source)

Well, that doesn’t sound so bad. I’ll leave the conturing thing to the brow kings and queens of the world, though. The most use I will get from a product like this is filling in those sparse hairs. Because no one really has perfect eyebrows. Except blogger Saimese but we digress. 8)

I think that this product only comes in one shade and that’s “Medium”. The website didn’t show any other options but I do think they should have at least one lighter shade. Medium, however, works good for me.

It isn’t perfect but it conceals well on my brows. I will probably be using this baby as an eyeshadow too because it is one intense matte with a nice and long-lasting finish.

The angled brush that comes with the set isn’t really worth much so do yourself a favor and use your favorite angled brush. I have one from Crown Brushes and used it to only fill in and slightly define my brows. Take one of my brows before…

Not too much of a tragedy, right? I did some dipping and dabbing…

Not too bad, uh? Adding some of the powder made my arch stand-out a little better.

I topped the brows off with some brow gel and was happy to see it last all day. Not bad for a smooth 7-bucks. You can snag this from BlackOpalBeauty.com.

Are you a low-maintenance brow gal or do you like to go all out and spruce yours up?

Tweezers Anonymous

Hey Clump beauties… Its Tamar your resident try any product once type of gal! I’m bringing you my latest find. If you don’t check your local Marshalls for the discounted beauty products you really should. I think you’d be pleasantly surprised. Check it out….

I have entered a 12 step program for my addiction. No its not drugs or alcohol…. Its tweezing!

I don’t know how this started or when it became a problem but my brows look sparse and lonely for fullness and sophistication. A couple of weeks ago while checking the cosmetic department at Marshalls I found this…

It’s so cute and when I saw the brand Anastatia (eyebrow artist to the stars)I got excited! It claimed to save my brows from my plucking hands! Look at the case it comes in…

This kit includes stencils (to help you figure out your brow shape)

Brow comb and brush duo (for blending and maintaining) Brow powder for brunette and blond women and enhancing serum to fill in those spots that just wont grow….

Now the serum is something like clear mascara at first glance…

You apply it day and night after you cleanse your face. I’ve been using it faithfully for about 2 weeks. I can’t say that they are growing out but I can say that my brows seem full of life now.

In case you were wondering yes it did come with a list of 12 steps and my favorite is #3 I made a decision to turn my will to tweeze over to the care of tweezers anonymous. After research I found that this kit retails for 55.oo at Sephora. (I paid 29.99 at Marshalls)

So am I alone? Is there anyone else out there that is guilty of over plucking/waxing? If so what steps have you taken to correct your brows? Please share!

Beauty Review: EcoTools Brow Grooming Set

Happy Friday!

Fridays are usually dedicated to FOTD Fridays but I wanted to jazz it up a bit instead of just showing you my mug. Well isn’t this funny….just a few days ago we were talking about areas on our body that we stopped fighting with and just started dealing with.

Say hello to my brows.

[NOTE] I forgot to take the silver clip out. I decided to upload the picture
anyway because it’s so ‘Clumps of Mascara’. HA!

They look okay now.

However, next week….

Sure, go ahead. Laugh it up but it really is a serious manner. I am ever so grateful for EcoTools and this handy dandy little brow set. It keeps my brows in check in between my threading sessions.

You know how much I love EcoTools, right? I did a post about them once before and was glad to see that I wasn’t the only EcoTools lova ‘roun here. Ladies all over the world are raving about these eco-friendly, affordable and high performance brushes. Even my girl Nikki in the Philippines is raving about the EcoTools mineral brush set.

So of course I had high hopes for the Brow grooming set. Did it deliever?

Yall like my little Eco-pretty set up, uh?
Heheheee.

First…let’s take a look at the deets of the Brow Grooming set.

Soft, cruelty-free bristles

This earth-friendly set is packed with quality tools you need to look beautiful. And, it shows respect for the planet:

The tools up close..

Oh girl, look at that cute little mirror.

Ec0Tools does it again. Another eco-friendly sweet set for only $9.99. The tweezers are precise and I love the “scoop” edges of the scissors. I have been using my brush every day and I just love the mirror….although it really does show EVERYTHING. Eek!

So what have we learned?

Life + good brows=

Life + bad brows=

Make the right decision.

Cop your EcoTools Brow Grooming Set at drugstores and where ever else EcoTools products are sold.

Happy Friday, family!!

Stay beautiful….and green,

Road triiiiiip

Hey chicas! Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! Still shocked that I’m 23!

I’m back from my 2-day road trip. Of course I went to Orlando and hit up the MAC Pro store where I chatted it up with my new favorite artists who were happy to see me. I didn’t buy anything (THAT’S THE FIRST!!!!!) but it was good to see some familiar faces. I went to Universal City Walk, saw some friends and saw Juno. Please go see this movie. That and The Great Debaters. And August Rush. Amaziiiing films.

Then I headed to Tampa Bay!!! My college home! Had so many memories in this city and was happy to be back. I went to my storage spot to go grab some things and got all sentimental.

*Yums, see the shine?*

My life in a storage room. Gotta love it. I need a home! And then I went around visiting my friends and got into this HUGE debate about Black women wearing red lipsticks. My girls were NAY and I was YAY. Many said that because their lips were already big, wearing red would make them look like a clown.

Now tell me…..do I look like a clown?

Seriously…women of color are still victims of what beauty should look like. While a crap-load of people plump their lips and go around lookin’ a mess, we hate our beautiful naturally plump lips because back in the day we were hated on because of them. What a mess.

But I digress. Then my girls and I went to my favorite Thai restaurant. Aren’t they fab?

The Fashionista, the Public Relations chic, the law student and the International Humanitarian. I have great lady friends!

And then before I went and got my brows threaded. I seriously think that Indian women truly understand the art of thick natural brows with an arch.

I swear, I won’t let anyone else touch my brows. Only my Indian ladies and Sam Fine. That’s it!! But I just can’t get my left brow to look like the right. Dang, that bothers me! The right is just wonderful and the right is trying so hard to keep up.

More productive posts soon to come. I’m out living my last few days in Florida because I fly back to my poor volunteering life in Cali and I’m SO not looking forward to it. :( Yall bloggers have been updating like crazy. I can’t keep uuuuup!

Peace and India.

Flowa Powa!

Just did a quick flower look. Drop ya thoughts!

I used (all MAC unless otherwise noted):

Chartreuse pigment
Fuschia pigment
Violet pigment
Blitz & Glitz fluid line
L’Oreal HIP Black Cream Eyeliner
Mattene Rapturous lipstick
MAC in 3D’s Wondershine
Revlon Colorstay eyeliner

This is how my 4th grade girls greet me!

And because I love graphic design
(another hidden obsession).

…..damn look at those bumps all over my face. They came out of nowhere. I’m gonna keep blamin’ LA smog ’til the day I die. My face didn’t even look this bad during puberty!

Look what my students bought me!
Lil’ jokas don’t fool me. They still drive me nuts!

They know Ms. Thomas loves her some Hello Kitty. Just showin’ my quick “ain’t had nothin’ else to do” look. Took me 10 quick minutes.

Notice how you don’t see my brows in any of those pics. I’m still in depressive mode over that unfortunate wax incident. And I really can’t draw them on. I’ve tried. It looks a mess….. That’s one department in the make-up world that I just don’t think I can master. I really have tried.

And another thing, Blogger sucks…like major. I don’t know why my pictures can’t be seen on a larger scale when you click on them. When I play around with HTML to make them larger, they end up looking all pixelated. Does anyone know how to make Blogger pictures bigger? Heeeelp!

Peace and primer.

EDIT: Thanks Tee….PhotoBucket-ing EVERY picture ain’t fun. But at least yall can get a better view. Yessss!
