Elle’s Back to School Ready with Carter’s

Fa la la la laaaaa to back to school season. Not gonna lie, y’all – I’m happy we aren’t there yet because WOW, it seems like a stressful time for parents and kiddos alike. But I remember this season when I was growing up and the best part about summer ending and school starting back up was shopping! Picking out a slew of brand new clothes and shoes was the total highlight for us. Brand new kicks, tops, backpacks and markers? Oh yesss…we thought we were living the life. Through Mom Central, I got the opportunity to style Elle with back to school outfits that she handpicked herself from Carter’s. Our little lady has a pretty groovy style profile at only 2 years old and I can’t wait to see how she continues to experiment with fashion.

Back To School Finds For Those Not Going Back To School – Thanks ShopAtHome.com

‘Tis the back to school season, y’all! I’m trying to navigate my way around this time of year because although Elle isn’t quite yet 3, in a few years, I’ll be joining the rush of parents who are tackling e-sites and stores to get the best deals. I was totally oblivious to all of this before I was a parent, but now it’s like a secret club that I’ve been drug into. I’m not doing much shopping for Elle, but I do like to keep an eye out on spectacular deals for my younger relatives and friends with littles. I like being a part of a village and help where I can. I’ve partnered up with ShopAtHome.com to share with you some of the pretty sweet offerings that Sears has around this time.

I’ve talked about ShopAtHome.com before and while they’ve got thousands of coupons for many retailers, Sears is really giving the love because right now they have over 30 coupons available AND 8% cashback.

Matching Heels to Your Outfit

High heels

Please enjoy this post from a Clumps of Mascara Contributor who has a passion for shoes!

It’s pretty fair to say that no outfit is perfect unless you get the shoes right. Whether you’re going to work, have a date or you’re just spending the day shopping, you need to match your shoes to your outfit and this will always include choosing the right heel height. How do you match your heel to your outfit? Take a look at these tips.

How to know which height is best

You will naturally feel more comfortable with a certain heel height, depending on whether you have a high or a low arch and it’s best to go with this height wherever possible. However, some outfits demand a different heel height. If you are wearing pants then your main consideration is making sure your heels are high enough to keep the pant legs off the floor. Other than that you can go as high or low as you like. However, when wearing a short skirt or shorts it is better to choose a lower heel. Strappy sandals go with just about everything, pair platforms or mules with trousers or throw on a pair of wedges with your dress for an effortless summer look.

What to do when you can’t try them on

Choosing the right pair is much more difficult when you buy shoes online, retailers like Tesco have hundreds of options and you can’t try them on with your outfit first. Take into consideration the length of your skirt/dress/trousers and the style of your outfit. If you get really stuck with choosing the right height then the classic 3-inch heel is the best way to go.

Shopbop Friend & Family Sale

SHOPBOP Friends and Family event

Another month and another fierce Shopbop sale is gracing our wallets and probably making them moan in agony.

Whatever, though.

A sale means you’re actually save money so it’s not all a lost cause. Time to start racking up those summer goodies, babes! I’m thinking sandals, beach scarves and totes, luggage for travel and pretty much anything your little heart desires. I haven’t really started scouring the site yet for anything but I know that I’m going to want to snag something nice for my Mom for Mother’s Day. She’s a Michael Kors lover so maybe she’ll love this?

Oh! And I actually kinda need a Spring wallet and this baby has my name written all over it.

ShopBop coupon

Keep an eye on your calendars! The sale won’t last long. It started yesterday, April 7th and will end Friday, April 10th at 4AM EST. Not a lot of shopping time and you can gurantee that they’ll run out of many of the hot items so better hop to it with the quickness.

Happy shopping!

That Day I Twirled Around In Wedding Dresses

Alfred Angelo wedding dresses

Girls. Can you believe this? Can you believe that I am married women who (up until last month) had never tried on a wedding dress? It’s pretty unheard of here in the United States. As many of y’all know, Esposo and I eloped and while we don’t have any regrets about it, it wasn’t until I went to a blogger event at Alfred Angelo when I realized, “Dang it, man…I LOOK good in wedding dresses!”

The Beauty in Washing Clothes with Safonique!

Just kidding. There is no beauty in washing clothes. It’s only the worst chore everrrr! I wash a lot of clothes, y’all. It’s unreal, really. I’m still in my baby makin’ years but I can’t see myself having more than 2 kids because with each new family member comes more loads. And honestly, washing a family of three’s loads are more than enough for me. And don’t even get me started on washing cloth diapers. It’s not a chore. It’s a lifestyle…

I received a sample of Safonique Natural Cleaning Power Eco-Friendly Lavender Sea Laundry Detergent awhile back and I’ve put it through the ringer (haha, literally) many many times. It’s hard to review a laundry detergent because so many factors come into play.

Safonique
-What kind of water do you have?
-What temperature is your water?
-How full do you load your washer?
-What kind of fabric are you washing?

Yes, girl. If you didn’t know there was a science behind washing clothes. That said, I will really only judge on its cleansing power, overall efficacy and how it smells. Developed over 15 years by Patricia A. Boswell, Safonique is a hypoallergenic detergent with pure essential oils. The ingredients are: coconut oil, palm kernels, sugar, baking soda, natural oils and natural enzyemes.

I’m not gonna lie, it frustrates me when brands don’t go deeper with their ingredients list. WHAT natural oils? What kind of natural enzymes? These things are important to those of us with skin sensitivities. And y’know…just for overall knowledge. What Safonique does tell us is that their formula is Phosphate Free, Cruelty Free, Septic System Safe and free from Synthetic Dyes and Perfumes. Well, okay…I’m down with that.

Because of how concentrated this stuff is, you really only need about 2 ounces for regular loads. And boom…that’s it.

Those not a fan of the scent lavender won’t like this. It really is that simple. After washing and drying, my clothes smelled as if I rolled through a field of lavender and I looooved it. This is a big deal since we typically wash our clothes in detergents without fragrances. Even when I add my own drops of essential oils, I can’t get the smell to last beyond washing.

In terms of general cleaning, this stuff works beautifully and I think it’ll be a great buy for mamas of little ones, those with sensitive skin and folx who are desirous of gently scented clothes that don’t smell too “fake”. If you’ve got a dirt slinging kiddo or serious stains throughout, you may want to reach for something a little stronger. And as much as I love Safonique, it isn’t heavy duty enough to tackle cloth diapers. Then again, very few detergents are.

Oh, and can we talk about the very cool 50 oz plastic packaging? I’d love if more brands went this route as the pouch takes up less space and looks like it’ll be easier to recycle.

If you’re a lover of natural laundry detergents, you should definitely give Safonique a try. It is priced well under $7 at Walmart.com.

What do you think? Are you a naturalista when it comes to laundering the clothes or do you just use what works?
