UDPP has been holdin’ out!

Yall see this?
Guess the product.

Now I know I’m a newbie and just learning some things but pleeeease tell me yall knew about this!

We all know Urban Decay’s Primer Potion, right (did you guess right?)? It is one of my HG and most beloved products. Even if I use a Paint Pot, Paint, concealer or even a Shadestick, I still start with UDPP. We all know that it is also a bit pricey and the shape of the bottle is just…..beyond frustrating. The wand can only go straight down into the tube. Never mind the sides. However, my friend showed me how we can get more product by cutting the tube in half. Now when she told and SHOWED me this I was thinking, “Ehhh….okay, a bit more would be nice.” A “bit” is an understatement. Chopping your UDPP in half will give you about 2-3 more months worth of product. Don’t believe me? Lemme show you!

What you’ll need:

UDPP (of course)
A pretty big knife
A not so big knife
Something to put UDPP in. I was going to use an depotted MAC pot but duhhh, it has holes so I settled for a random empty jar thingie. Sample pigment jars would be perfect though.

[STEP 1]
Start by cutting a knife straight through your UDPP. It may take some time. Make sure you use a cutting board. Forgot to take a pic of this. Sorrryyy..

[STEP 2]
Pull apart your UDPP and get angry at how Urban Decay has been ripping us off.

[STEP 3]
Scoop what you can OUT and place in your new jar. Hmmm, ice cream.

[STEP 4]
But girl, you ain’t done yet. Start slicing the base of the packaging too.

[STEP 5]
Scoop like hell and place everything in your new jar.

Can you believe this? Look how much of the product was still stuck inside of there. This took me all of 5 minutes to do. I say we all start emailing Urban Decay and suggest they find some new packaging for UDPP because this doesn’t make sense. What do you think?

Random post, I know. But in the midst of packing, I got into a depotting mode and then UDPP scooping mode and decided to share with my blog fam. Have a fab weekend, yall!

Peace and fists to Urban Decay!

[thanks Ms. Riss. Get back on the blog updating thang, sis b/c I miss you!]

[EDIT - 4/20/2009] The people have spoken and Urban Decay has revamped the packaging. It now has an angled wand. Check it out HERE. Yay!

Beauty Powders & More

Soooo, I can’t believe it’s been almost a week since I’ve posted. Sorrryyyy!! I hope everyone has had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I spent mine in NYC and no matter how many times I go to that city, it still amazes me. I had an incredible time ice skating, seeing the Macy’s Day parade, Black Friday shoppin’, seeing the Rockettes, dining and spending time with the fam who I haven’t seen in 3 months (long time for me!)….so yes, all was well. And I hope yours was too!! I think I should add that I went lookin’ for the MAC Pro and uhhh…..couldn’t get in the door. So yeah, that kinda sucked. I did go into a Sephora and another MAC and walked out of both empty handed. Actually, I haven’t purchased much make-up since last Tuesday. The Of Beauty beauty powders dropped and I didn’t intend on picking up any of those but of course….I did.

Introducing Sunspill….a color that MAC defines as “Coral peach with white and gold reflect”.

I think it’s beautiful against my NW45 skin. A make-up artist told me that it would be a beautiful highlight under the eyes and even as an eyeshadow. I’ll play around with it a bit and show you what I’ve come up with—mistakes and all! I love how it isn’t TOO much. And it lacks glitter. I loathe glitter. It does have shimmer but works well against my skin so it looks like a highlight….not glittery. The 183 brush feels soooo soft and I wanted to get it, but $40? Uhhh….hopefully that’s a gift that Santa will leave under the tree.

I have seriously put myself on probation from purchasing anymore make-up products. I’m spending too much money and not doing enough practicing with the things that I have. The only investing I will do is in skin care products and accessories. But that’s it!…..hopefully. So in the meantime, I will practice, practice and practice. A friend of mine who, like me, is always moving from house to house wanted to know the easiest and most efficient way to compartmentalize her make-up. Now I’ve just recently become a make-up addict so I don’t have much compared to others, but I do know what it’s like to always be on the go. I’ve moved a total of 9 times in 4 years. Craziness, I know. But I think I have found a way to deal with eye shadow palettes when you have limited and temporary space. VELCRO!

I heart Velcro….it has so many uses. Check it.

You can buy Velcro anywhere….I got mine from K-Mart for less than $4. I stuck a piece on one side of my palette

Yikes, sorry for the blur, loves!

And then I placed the other side of the Velcro on the wall.

And viiiiooola!

Palettes on the wall. I don’t have mine aligned perfectly but oh well….ha. Not that picky about it. But it stays in place. I can see everything without pulling out drawers and best of all, I have more workspace.

I also think it’s a fun way to display your little hobby too. It looks like art! I think this is a great idea for dorms, apartments or even for folx who are working in small areas. I even Velcro my shadows when I depot….I can’t seem to find the right size magnets, but small Velcro pieces work. Try it! I’m going to do EnKore’s brush holder next. You see how mine are just hangin’ in there lookin’ funny. HA!

I haven’t done any recent FOTDs. I can’t get over the brows. Everytime I take a pic, I delete it because I’m not likin’ how I’ve been lookin’ these past few weeks. STILL! They are growin’ and I’m bein’ patient. Review post coming up soon! Off to check out other beauty blogs…..if I haven’t added yours, please let me know!

Peace and Time Square! Missin’ NYC already….*tear*

Saturday Madness….

Today was a pretty decent productive day. I went to the Fashion District, East Los Angeles with one of my BFFs and of course we went to the mall. The mall was all decorated with Christmas stuffs and I was like….”Awwww!” Ever since I was a kid, I have adored the holiday season. Spending it a different city and different state with very few familiar faces is a bit hard, but I am slowly getting more into the spirit.

Ran through CVS before goin’ to Downtown and East Los Angeles and had a field day. I keep forgetting how much I love drugstores. I checked out L’Oreal mascaras (I was gonna get the newest one in the green tube but I gotta check out reviews on that first)…..ran over to Milani, NYC, Beauty of Essence brushes, CoverGirl stuffs and ended up at the candy aisle dopin’ up on sugary sweets.

Here’s my haul:

….my NYC lippie isn’t showing. And I know that neon orange isn’t even in style but I love crazy colors like that. More so for my toes. And I went to a MAC counter and got the Prep & Prime for the face. I hope it works! I promise that will be my last MAC purchase for awhile. I need to save money if I plan on going home for the holidays. I haven’t even booked a flight! Yikes!

Oh….as I promised…..here’s how the brows are lookin’ these days:

You see how much hair I have growing back? And I know I may have been exaggerating a bit but I think this picture shows just how much she took off. Look how thick my brows are SUPPOSED to be. HA, crazy, right?

….and they make me look like I’m surprised. Here I am making more a normal face but the brows make me look like I’m like, SHOCKED or somethin’. I hate that! LOL!

And they almost look nonexistent here….

Ayyy…..Imma be aight, I suppose. I’m really not worried about them anymore. Tis it for now! Back to watching “Waiting to Exhale” for the 39,483rd time. I should be out on a date or partyin’ it up with friends but I am a truly an old woman with no funds and livin’ in a foreign city. Ain’t that just fab?

Peace and vegetarianism!

What I’ve learned

Okay, so I’m back!

This is going to be a picture-less post. I want to list my top 10 lessons/findings since I’ve been on my little beauty blog hiatus. Here we go….and please if you have any tips, suggestions, proposals….please help a sista out!

(1) Leave the eyebrows alone. I’ve decided to leave them the hell alone! At one point I got obsessed with trying to get “the perfect brows”. I really don’t care anymore. They aren’t perfect and I’m fine with that. I’m sick of trying to make lines and color them in and create arches and all of that mess. It’s time consuming and rather unnecessary to me. So no more drawing brow lines. I am learning to tweeze them myself—which I think is going rather well. But aside from tweezing every once in a while and trimming them, I’m leaving them alone.

(2) Time to learn how to apply blush. I really don’t know how! Call me crazy but once upon a time, I thought blushes were only for non-Black women. Silly me! But now I’ve discovered a whole new world of blushes via NARS. Beautifuuuuul. I copped Taj Mahal from a friend and now I’m peering at Crazed. Exhibit A is fab too. These colors are nice and all but I need to learn how to correctly apply blush. And MSF. I still don’t know what that stuff is for.

(3) Don’t be anti-foundation. I tried foundation. Then I gave up on it. Well, now I’m hip to it again. I think I’ve found something better. MAC StudioFix is the devil in powder foundation form. StudioTech is better. And now that I’ve found the correct shade….I find myself really liking how it looks on me. Sometimes. I don’t ever want to get to the point where I wear foundation everyday. I know it sounds crazy, but I really have no problem with my skin in all of its flaws. And it’s not like I have a busted face. I don’t mind my LA smog-created pimples. I wish they’d go away but I think it takes too much time to conceal them and my uneven coloration. I have really accepted my skin in its natural state. So foundation on only special occasions.

(4) Time to invest in MAC skincare products. This whole make-up thing is fun for me, but also very difficult. I used to be an “all natural” girl in terms of skincare products. But noooow, I’m stepping outside of the box. Wow. So, for the past 5 years or so I’ve been using Black soap, Aveeno (so not all natural), jojoba oil, cocoa butter and other natural oils that my Mother has made. I got a sample of MAC’s Green Cleansing Oil and my face loves it. It’s amaaaazing. And LA smog pimples are starting to go away because of it. So it’s time to go with what works. And so far it seems to be MAC skincare products.

(5) Find the perfect neutral look. I’ve played around with different colors and I’ve liked my findings. But I want the perfect neutral eye. So off to research what other brown ladies are doin’.

(6) Tame the eyelashes. They are getting a little less unruly but not where I want them to be. That and find a fab mascara that gives me amazing lashes. PlushLash is pretty decent but I know there is something better! And false lashes are fun but I want to create lengthy and full natural lashes.

(7) Create a portfolio. Just for fun. I want to have pictures of all of my looks with the products I used. For no reason. But since I’m into this make-up thing right now in my life, it would be nice to show something for it—-besides entirely too much money in products.

(8) Don’t get too caught up in MAC lippies. I know, they are beautiful. We can all attest to that. But them mofos cost too much money. I’ve become spoiled now and don’t even look at non-MAC lip products. It’s time to head back to Walgreens, CVS and other drugstore brands that were just as good before I distracted. I so blame MAC in 3D’s Wondershine.

(9) Blend like a mofo. And keep blending like a mofo. Because, to me, it truly is one of the most important make-up rules.

(10) Go make-up free at least once a week. And not on a bum day either. I want to continually reinforce how beautiful I SHOULD feel without the use of products. And prove to the world that I can be fab with or without make-up.

Blending….

It’s comedy hour here at Clumps of Mascara. Click on the pic below for some laughs.

I can laugh at this terrible look now ONLY because I know better. But in October 2006, you could not have told me that I didn’t know ’bout blending. But boooooy, if only I knew then what I know now.

I’ve come across a great reference/resource for blending. I just recently got back on MySpace (I deactivated my account 3-4 months ago when it got hacked into. So sad) and found a sista who does some bomb ass blending! I mean, her skills are impeccable….please check her work.

http://www.myspace.com/iheart_makeupartcosmetics

Her designs blew me away. She spotlights her products, techniques and tools. And what I’m amazed to find out is that she uses Sonia Kashuk brushes!! Whaaaat?! With blending this good, I’m thinking she’s goin’ bankrupt purchasing expensive brushes. But nope….good ole’ Sonia again has saved the day.

She also touched on the fact that practice, practice, practice is crucial when it comes to blending. I have to keep remembering that. Sometimes I get discouraged when my looks don’t look as good as I want them to but practicing is very important.

Anyone else got any tips, suggestions or anything to add on the topic of blending? Perfecting blending, to me, is so very important. It’s the difference between make-up application and make-up ART.

Blend on my sistas….

OMG…

Creative title there, uh?

Okayyyy, so I guess it’s time for a new post. I’ve had an awesome weekend with great friends! I’m trying to live up my life here in Tampa because I’m moving to LA for AmeriCorps in September and *tear*….I doubt anyone will visit me since it’s so far.

Well, I am happy to announce that I did not purchase any make-up products this weekend! This is considered a good thing because I’m broke! LOL! I’m moving out of my apartment and putting things in storage and funds are realllly very low right now, so I’ve been staying away from Specktra’s For sale forums and…

…oh wait, I did buy some mascara at Target, but guess what? It was on sale! $4.99. Regularly $7.99.

It’s the Loreal Telescopic mascara that my lovely Ms. Riss raved about. I can see why! This is some great stuff! It’s actually better than the Loreal Voluminous. I mean, really….my eyelashes are out of this world! I loved it so much that I didn’t even feel the need to put on any make-up. Just the mascara, some eye liner and my MAC jellybabe. It’s so hotness! Get up on it!

Sooo…in other news, I copped
the MAC Firespot from the Moonbathe line and I’m in love with flippin’ color. It’s insanely beautiful! I tried it on a friend of mine who is NC45 with some Cranberry and Vex and it was fire! HOTTTT!!! Just “Ehhh….” on me. Gotta keep playing around with it. It’s just such a wonderful color for my collection. I’m excited about it. But I’m not too hip on ordering MAC products over the phone or online to be mailed to me. It took entirely TOO long and shipping was too expensive. I’ll only do that if I HAVE to.

Best friend tells me that Ulta is having this crazy cool sale on Urban Decay Primer Potion (buy 2, get 1 free) and some other goodies… I say check it out. I’m so blessed. A Sephora, Ulta, MAC, and Nordstrom’s in the SAME city? All of which I JUST discovered in 3 months? LOL, I’m so spoiled. Oh wait…I’ve found the link. The sale is going on until August 4. Yesss!! I should have at least 2 paychecks by then!

3 random pics of me and then I’m out…..but WAIT….you haven’t lived until you’ve checked out this online boutique. I’m not even lying. Shoes for $9.99? Hot jewelry for $.99? Thanks Black Pearls for showing this one. Great another addiction: online boutiques. Freakin’ A!

Peace and pretty faces!

I so need a better focus. LOL!!

One of my favorite looks: Arabian Lights….so gorgeous!
Amberlights/Cranberry/Vex

Chuckin’ the deuces at cha….whatever that means!

C-Shock!

C-SHOCK!!!

Today MAC’s newest line came out and I am SOOOO excited. Only, I’m somewhat in a financial hole, so I can’t afford to indulge in these colors like I really want to. :( I thought about purchasing at least one color, but I can’t…..I have to buy at least 2 and that’s gonna run me $20 alone, so I’m just going to have to be patient and wait.

These colors are VIBRANT and will look great on darker skinned folx. ‘Bout time! I want the entire collection!

I’m going out tonight and want to do parrot eyes. I’m going to go home and practice and then do the real thing tonight.

Yessssss…..

New lessons for today?

(1) MAC’s lustres and frost are the best for my eyes. Go more towards them.
(2) Check out NYX brand…..I’ve been hearing good raves about it.
(3) Stick to Make-Up wish list and DO NOT purchase items outside of that list.
(4) Visit MAC Pro store in Orlando with Marissa…..and soon!
(5) Check out Milani’s purples….heard good things about them too.
(6) Eyebrows, eyebrows….work on them b/c they look A MESS!!!
(7) Test myself on the anatomy of the eye

Today’s look:

All MAC products…..UPDD primer (I can’t stress enough how wonderful primer is!!!), Amberlights on Inner V to mid-lid——Trax from mid-lid to outer V and VEX from Crease on up.
