FOTD Friday: Goin’ green on the lids….

So the other day something tragic happened. I was making my green smoothie…like I do every evening for the following day. This particular smoothie was probably one of the best I had ever made (that’s my Drake remix, haha!). It was chock full of kale and spinach with a sweet amount of coconut and almond milk. I tossed in some apple pieces, a banana, strawberries, pineapple and topped it off with cinnamon. It was beyond tasty.

So tasty that I guess the floor wanted try some too (haha, love that Mama Soybean).

But how beautifully tragic is that spill? The formation is kinda awesome. And it is a gorgeous shade of green. It was so pretty that my silly self had to take a picture of it and tweet it. Sometimes you really have to find beauty in….odd circumstances. Like in a green smoothie committing drinkicide.

Anyway….it inspired me to play around with some greens. So I did!!

I used MAC’s Humid for the outer-V.

That was one of my FIRST eye shadows. Humid holds a special place en mi corazon. I was going for a pretty subtle green eye. Didn’t want anything to POW, ya know? And I wanted plain cheeks with a glossy brown lip.

But if you look closer, I made a ton of application mistakes while in a hurry. Experimenting before work is never a good idea. But y’all know I don’t care. Posting my mistakes is kinda fun…..kinda.

Here we go!

FACE:
MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW45
MAC Sweet As Cocoa blush

EYES:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance

L’Oreal Hip cream paint in Witty
A green from Milani Cosmetics
MAC Humid e/s
NARS Edie e/s
NARS Albatross highlighter
MAC Blacktrack fluidline
Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero

Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Mildew
Clinique Glossy mascara

LIPS:
MAC lipliner in Chestnut
Stila Lip Glaze in Brown Sugar

….yikes, don’t be like me. Blend your primer thoroughly!

I love greens.

Don’t youuuu?

Off to Atlanta for the weekend! I’ll be live tweeting my adventures, so be sure to tune in!

Have an awesome weekend, y’all.

Stay beautiful,

FOTD Friday: A one color look

Happy Friday, family!

I feel like I haven’t done a Face of the Day in ages. My skin is slowly but surely recovering from the awful break-out.

I haven’t been wearing much make-up….rightfully so. A reader and I were chit chatting about eye shadow colors and how many colors you HAVE to wear. By default, I thought THREE.

(at least) 1 color for the lid
1 color for the crease
1 color for the browbone.

*hits buzzer* Wrong! You can rock as little as one eyeshadow color if that’s your style. And since I have been quite lazy with make-up application, that is exactly what I have been doing lately.

EYES:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Jessie’s Girl baked eyeshadow in Evergreen
Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Covet
Clinique High Impact Curling mascara

FACE:
Not a thang, mon!

LIPS:
MAC Nightmoth lip liner
Kissable Couture lipgloss in Peony

To make this look pop I added a ton of green to the waterline.

See….I just had color right on the lid.

For those afraid of crazy eye shadow combinations, try with placing color on the lid and wearing a pretty bright liner.

I absolutely LOVE drugstore brand Jessie Girl’s eye shadows. They are insanely pigmented. I must thank my girl Kia from Yummy411 for the green look inspiration.

Have a wonderful weekend, family!

Stay beautiful,

FOTD Friday: Halloween Look!

Happy Friday, beautiful people! Ohmigoodness, this week has been an amazing one! Between yesterday’s Breast Cancer Awareness contest, gas goin’ day and just being alive, I can’t complain! This week’s FOTD goes in conjunction the Jaimie from Just Kiss ‘N Makeup‘s Halloween contest.

I loooove doing this! Last year I did two.

I love doing looks with pops of color! This year I wanted my look to have a story behind it.

Yeeeep, go ‘head and pull up a chair.

LOL, I’m just playin’…I won’t be long. I am in LOVE with all things African. The culture, the music, the food, the history, the garments..I just love my heritage. But as an African American with untraceable roots to the African continent, I often find a hard time “connecting” to my lost background. When I first jumped on the “Halloween Look” bandwagon, I immediately knew I wanted to do an African look. Here was my inspiration:

I loved it! That green goes beautifully against her dark skin. Green eyeshadows, actually have a special place in my make-up stash. Meet the family…

Altogether I used a combination of ALL of those greens so should you need specific names, just ask. :) I even tried some false lashes for the first time. They were great for the look but I can’t see myself ever wearing those things regularly. My eyes were just a waterin’.

For the lips, I decided to go with a 14K color so I used some of my MAC Golden Lemon pigment and mixed it with a clear gloss (N.Y.C. Cosmetics, holla!).

To make the green pop even more I bronzed my face down with Cargo Bronzer. I love how it didn’t make me ashy but gave me “glow”. The lining of the mask comes from Urban Decays 24/7 eyeliner in Envy. So here’s the look!

Sometimes I get TOO
ANTM in my pictures, uh? HA!

Do yall know I walked around my house like this?! I just felt good with the make-up and the wrap and the clothes! Loved it! Why not a scary look? I’m not a big fan of Halloween to begin with and I don’t really like scary stuffs. Hence why I can’t watch the nightly news.

I kid! Not really but kinda. :)

There’s my submission for the contest! What do yall think?

Be honest, be honest…

Have a wonderfuuuul weekend!!

FOTD Friday: Fresh Green Mix (pic heavy!)

Ohhh la laaaa, thanks Jaimie for my new FOTD Friday banner. It is faaaab! FOTD Friday is all about creativity, comparing dupes and stepping outside of the box when it comes to color. Or sometimes we explore the beauty of natural looks. Today’s FOTD was inspired by reader Jamila who sent me her thoughts on MAC’s Fresh Green Mix Mineralized eyeshadow from the ElectroFlash collection.

I have seen these beauties in person but haven’t been compelled to buy anything since I am on this serious “it can be duped” phase. But Jamila may change my mind. I tried to duplicate her beautiful FOTD. She used (all MAC unless otherwise noted):

Pharaoh PP as base.
Fresh Green Mix on lid, the darker side in the crease and outer 1/3
Climate Blue (just a bit) in the crease and outer 1/3
Maybelline Dream Mousse shadow in Vanilla Veil to highlight.
MAC liquidlast in Electrolady to line (top and bottom)
Violet Pigment on top of Elctrolady

My Foundation and blush are some frankens that I put together.

NYX Black Label Lipstick Diva with Korres Pomegranate Lip butter over it.

Beautiful uh? So here is the quad that I used…

Ohh….and here’s the pobre Eyepopping eyeshadow in the jacked up shadows palettes.

And then the diagram….

And then the look…

Looks like I went a little above my crease on the left eye. Urrgghhh, Clumps of Mascara strikes again. Hehehe…

I used (all MAC unless otherwise noted):
Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer
Milani Garden Mist eyeshadow
True Chartreuse pigment
Swimming
Humid
Carbon
Clinique’s Almost Peach (highlight…love this color!)
Entremauve pigment (for purple lining)–forgot to add it on my waterline.

….that lippie is by NYC but the name rubbed off. I adore that color!

So how did I do? I think my look is a little more vibrant than J’s. But I’m thinking it’s because I used all of my shadows and pigments wet. I still think there are some dimensions to that Fresh Water Mix mineralized shadow that I would like to explore. Jamila has been nice enough to provide some swatch comparisons for us. Yaaaay! Check them out here.

Anyone else own it? Any must haves that you think I should take a look at in the Electro Flash collection?

It’s Friiiiiiiiday!!! I hope that yall are off to a good one!!

Greenvious! (pics)

Hi gorgeous people!

I’ve been wonderful in the make-up department. Just doing as much learning, research and practicing as I can. I can still work on my blending, but it’s getting better since I now I have a blending brush! Yessss!! In fact, I’ve gotten quite a few goodies since I last made an entry. I got:

-Sonia Kashku (however you spell it) brushes….I love them!!
-Black tied….via Specktra sale
-Cranberry….via Specktra sale
-Loreal HIP black gel liner. It’s GREAT! Just as good as MAC’s. And I got it for only $4.99
-Milani’s Antique Gold. Interesting color
-Rimmel teal liquid liner….just for fun and crazy looks
-Milani liquid liner. This is what I used before Fluidlines. I got it again to do a crazy cat eye look.

So I think I’ve done pretty well at fulfilling my make-up wish list which is getting smaller and smaller. I’ve also ordered 9 pigment samples via Specktra. I can’t wait until they arrive!!

Today I’m bustin’ green and decided to do some green eyes. Something I’ve never done…..I used Eyepopping on the inner lid and Swimming on outer lid. And of course Vex everywhere else. Vex and Trax have become my favorite colors of all time because they are subtle, yet you can still seem them. Here’s the look that I call:

Greenvious

Okay….that’s the “in love” look. I’m not, but I’m lusting kinda hard because I had a fabulous date last night, but I digress!! LOL—here’s the thugged out look:

And of course….you’re gonna need some close ups, riiiiight?

Close dem eyes, guuuuuurl…..

And of course you need a full face look even though there’s too much light in this one.

I think I like the green look. I have another one called “Scream Green” but this to me is more fun. Scream Green is defintely an after-dark look. My face is still a HOT mess, ehhh….but whatever. Day 9 of my fast and it has been clearing up but not as much as I’d like it to. I’ll be patient. Still not wearing too much Studio Fix. I’ve only worn it twice in a week and a half.

Also, to those of you who have make-up blogs, please let me know so that I can add you to a list. Some list…..I don’t know how to make this Blogger stuff all pretty. But I’ll figure it out one day. I really enjoy reading some of you all’s things. It is really helping me.

Peace and have a Happy 4th (even though this is THEIR America….lol, sorry, that’s my Radical rant! Got a whole ‘notha blog for that!)
