Brown and Blushin': Tarte’s 12 hr Amazonian blushes

Ah yesss, it’s been quite some time since we’ve had a post from our favorite blush series. Don’t think the disappearance of this series means that I haven’t been wearing blush. I still wear it almost every day. Tarte’s Amazonian blushes  have been my new favorites.

I don’t say this about many products (or do I?) but you’re going to need at least one of these blushes. And here’s why…

JASON PowerSmile Cinnamon Mint Toothpaste

I know what’ you’re thinking. You’re probably like, “Really B? This is a beauty blog. Who cares about toothpaste?”

Um, you should if you intend on keeping those pearly whites white and healthy. Mama Clumps has been on the natural toothpaste tip for while and it wasn’t until recently when I decided to give it a whirl.

But was it a winner or was my grill too used to traditional toothpastes to keep giving the PowerSmile a try?

OCC Lip Tars a mixin’

My my my…what more needs to be said about these kids? Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics has wooed me in the nail polish and loose eye shadow department, but I would be a tad bit remiss if I didn’t declare my love for the Lip Tars. I’ll do a formal swatches soon but to tease you a bit, I did some mixing and made my own shade.

A little bit of this and a little bit of that…

And look what I made.

Green Beauty: CleanWell hand sanitizer review and giveaway!

I’ve been slightly addicted (oxymoron much? lol) to hand sanitizers since they hit the scene like…a decade ago. It was a decade wasn’t it? Anywhoovers, I have them everywhere. My car, purse and desk. I pull them out after using public restrooms, before eating and after shaking hands (sorry bro…I don’t know where your hands have been). When I was teaching through AmeriCorps, my kiddies saw me pull out hand sanitizer so much that they nicknamed it “hanitizer”.

So imagine my delight when I found out that there was hanitizer that was alcohol-free. You mean, no more drying out of my hands and cuticles? Ohhhh…yeah.

That’s the thing about traditional hand sanitizers. I find the alcohol to be insanely drying. I always dealt with it because I didn’t think there were any other options. Introducing CleanWell, a hand sanitizer that uses plant essential oils instead of alcohol.

And since white tea and aloe are infused in the formula, I can ensure that my hands and cuticles feel clean AND soft. And because we’re using a spray…

…it can be used everywhere! I’ve sprayed it on my keyboard at work, door knobs and even tables while I’m out to eat. Yeah…I go a wee bit overboard with the sanitizing thing.

Since I loved the hanitizer so much, I’m giving one away to one lucky Clumps subscriber!

Shoot me an email at Giveaway@ClumpsOfMascara.com with the subject “CLEAN“. Your
submission will not count if you leave a comment in this post. If you do comment, you must also send an email to be eligible to win.

Green Living Beyond Beauty

Last night on Facebook, I declared this week as Green Week! For the rest of this week, all of my reviews will be of eco-friendly, vegan, vegetarian and paraben free products.  Buuuuut I also wanted to show you cool cats some of my favorite non-beauty products that I use on a regular.

Starting with two of my best friends.

My 64 oz jug and apple cider vinegar.
I stopped buying bottled water some time ago. My apartment complex did not have a place where I could recycle the bottles. I felt bad trashing bottle after bottle daily! And so I opted to take the same jug of water with me to work every day. It saves me money and now I don’t feel so craptastic about trashing bottles of water. And I get my daily water intake!

I pour a capful of apple cider vinegar in my water as a habit now. Many moons ago, I read about its health benefits and while I can’t say it has significantly changed anything for me, I actually like how my water tastes with a bit of ACV in it.

And then there are my cleaning products.

I’ve raved about castile soap and while that is my primary cleaner of choice (that and baking soda), I like to use natural dish liquid and Borax for my laundry. Mama Clumps always used Borax and that has always stuck with me. You would be surprised at how much cleaner and brighter your clothes come out with just a scoop of that stuff.

And then there’s food. While I don’t call myself a vegan or vegetarian, most of my meal options are meat-free and lactose free. There are few times when I eat chicken and turkey but I find myself happier with my eating lifestyle when I don’t stay on strict don’t eat this and don’t eat that diets.

1. Took me forever to start purchasing organic eggs. They are almost 4x more expensive than conventional eggs. But with all of the news surrounding eggs these days, I have no problem spending the extra money.
2. Stainless steel weekend water bottle. I carry it with me to stay hydrated and prevent me from buying water bottles.
3. Silk Pure Almond almond milk. A super creamy almond milk that is perfect for smoothies.
4. Earth Balance makes the best vegan spread. Buttery taste without the lactose. Yesss!
5. I buy 2 of these a week. The Spring Mix is my favorite. It is chockfull of arugula. Delicious!
6. Earth Balance peanut butter. Another vegan and lactose free creation.
7. Organic sweet potatoes. I eat at least 4 a week. I am obsessed with them. I even made a vegan sweet potato pie once.
8. Almond Breeze almond milk. I use this milk for cereal and dipping ginger snaps in.
9. Organic bananas. For my smoothies.
10. I saved the best for last. GREEN SMOOTHIE! I drink one a day. It’s a way of life. See my post dedicated to them here.

Do you have any green non-beauty products that you use on a regular?

Green Beauty: Lavanila healthy fragrance and body butter

I’ve had my eyes on Lavanila products for quite some time and I am so glad to finally be able to share them with y’all. But first, the etymological nerd that is me hasto tell you about the name LAVANILA. It comes from the country of Madagascar. Their native word for vanilla is lavanila. Apparently the best vanilla comes from the island of Madagascar. Pretty cool, uh?

The brand was started by Danielle Raynor and Laura DiGirolamo, both beauty lovers who were frustrated with the perfumes that aggravated their allergies.

And so together (with the help of chemists, of course) they birthed a healthy fragrance.

Call me crazy, but I wasn’t aware of all of the synthetic ingredients that were put into fragrances. It’s amazing how divine a fragrance can smell using Mother Earth’s treats.

The Healthy fragrances are come in 4 different scents and they are all formulated without

Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petro-Chemicals
- Phthalates
- GMO
- Triclosan

Lavanilla Lavender has notes of vanilla, lavender, rose absolute and violet leaf. Mama Clumps would fall for this as she loves anything with lavender in it. A 1 oz bottle of eau de parfum spray will run you $38 and the 1.7 oz bottle goes for $58.  While the vanilla scent does seem to be a little overpowering, I will say that Lavanilla has turned me into a perfume snob. I don’t think I’ll be looking at mainstream fragrances the same.

And then there are their body butters.

Oh la laaaa….

I don’t usually pull out body butters until the weather gets cooler, but I’ve been making an exception for this kid.

These are perfect after a warm shower or bath as they melt right into your skin.

They are divine, I tell ya. Non-greasy and the scents last. And just like their big sister, they are formulated without all of the nasty stuffs.

The body butters also come in the same 4 scents as the fragrances. Retailing at $12 for a 2.75 bottle and $25 for a 8 oz bottle, I don’t think it’s a bad steal for my ladies who prefer to use products free of synthetic ingredients. And you have to be a lover of vanilla because all of fragrances and body butters have strong notes of it. I have never been the biggest fan of smelling like a cookie but it is starting grow on me.

Lavanila will see me again as I totally plan to try their healthy deodorant and healthy sunscreen. Loves it!

Have you tried any of their products? Whatcha think?
