FOTD Friday: Halloween Look!

Happy Friday, beautiful people! Ohmigoodness, this week has been an amazing one! Between yesterday’s Breast Cancer Awareness contest, gas goin’ day and just being alive, I can’t complain! This week’s FOTD goes in conjunction the Jaimie from Just Kiss ‘N Makeup‘s Halloween contest.

I loooove doing this! Last year I did two.

I love doing looks with pops of color! This year I wanted my look to have a story behind it.

Yeeeep, go ‘head and pull up a chair.

LOL, I’m just playin’…I won’t be long. I am in LOVE with all things African. The culture, the music, the food, the history, the garments..I just love my heritage. But as an African American with untraceable roots to the African continent, I often find a hard time “connecting” to my lost background. When I first jumped on the “Halloween Look” bandwagon, I immediately knew I wanted to do an African look. Here was my inspiration:

I loved it! That green goes beautifully against her dark skin. Green eyeshadows, actually have a special place in my make-up stash. Meet the family…

Altogether I used a combination of ALL of those greens so should you need specific names, just ask. :) I even tried some false lashes for the first time. They were great for the look but I can’t see myself ever wearing those things regularly. My eyes were just a waterin’.

For the lips, I decided to go with a 14K color so I used some of my MAC Golden Lemon pigment and mixed it with a clear gloss (N.Y.C. Cosmetics, holla!).

To make the green pop even more I bronzed my face down with Cargo Bronzer. I love how it didn’t make me ashy but gave me “glow”. The lining of the mask comes from Urban Decays 24/7 eyeliner in Envy. So here’s the look!

Sometimes I get TOO
ANTM in my pictures, uh? HA!

Do yall know I walked around my house like this?! I just felt good with the make-up and the wrap and the clothes! Loved it! Why not a scary look? I’m not a big fan of Halloween to begin with and I don’t really like scary stuffs. Hence why I can’t watch the nightly news.

I kid! Not really but kinda. :)

There’s my submission for the contest! What do yall think?

Be honest, be honest…

Have a wonderfuuuul weekend!!

FOTD Friday: A Fun Look

Hi gorgeous folx!

I got an email from a lovely reader saying that I don’t do many FOTDs anymore and haven’t done a bold look in a very long time. Haven’t really dove in that FOTD Friday series much, uh?

Yeeep, she’s right. I actually don’t dab into make-up that much these days. I know, I know, tragedy…but I’m not really down to wearin’ a ton of stuff. But she inspired me to do a blue/green look. So I pulled out some bright make-up and sat down to watch my show.

Hands down my favorite show ever. Got all 4 seasons on DVD and would rather watch this every day than the stuff on regular cable. Anywho….got to gigglin’ with Martin and came up with this craziness.

I purposely didn’t blend the colors together. I wanted each one to be stark and be bold on its own. If that really makes any sense.

I even did a Tina Turner hair look. HA!

Yes yall….I am a mess.

Here’s what I used:

FACE:
Not a thing

EYES (colors):
Bamboo Paint
Yellow Sunshine e/s
Wondergrass e/s
Eyepopping e/s
Submarine e/s
Thunder e/s

Lips:
Some really pretty Holiday Lustreglass.

….nothin’ to brag about but I can dig it. It was fun to play around in eye make-up again. Happy Friiiiiiday!

80’s Challenge!

Booooo to Mondays. I think it is embedded in our DNA to naturally despise Mondays. But this Monday, we (as in beauty bloggers) have something to look forward to! It’s our 80’s Challenge Post day!

I can’t say this was the easiest look for me to come up with. The 80’s isn’t one of those eras that fascinate me and I remember very little about it. After all, I was only 4 in 1989. I couldn’t find a look that fascinated me enough to want to replicate soooo my look has no real inspiration other than the bright and crazy colors of the 80’s! And as usual….whenever I want a bright look, I pull out those pigments and wet my brush. Nothin’ big but it was fun doing!

Are you peepin’ the crazy funky hair?

I used:

FACE:
Nada

Eyes (all MAC unless otherwise noted):
Artifact paintpot
Delft paintpot
Fuschia pigment
Naval Blue pigment
Vanilla pigment
Clinque Eggplant Cream liner
L’Oreal Voluminous mascara

Lips:
MAC tinted moisturizer

Check out the looks that my other beauty bloggin’ sisters have come up with. Are we fab or what?

Fafi-ness

Hi loves….I’ve been a bit ghost on the blogging tip. I’ve moved back to Florida, I don’t start my new job until next Monday, my apartment place fell through so I’m looking for something else and I am slowly getting over the flu. I’ve tried to stop by everyone’s blog homes and leave some love. I’m still working on my purpose and defined role of Clumps of Mascara. I want this blog to benefit newbies and professional make-up artists alike. Which I am finding hard to do because it takes a ton of time and dedication. Working full time and preppin’ up for graduate school leaves me with very little time. I wish I could beauty blog my life away…..bein’ the first to post new collections, doing reviews on new products….but I don’t think I’ll be able to ever do that with the way my life works. But I’ll do my best. Especially for my newbies, because this blog is designed for you, for us…

So there’s that….a few explanations for the downtime. I checked out Fafi today and was a bit unimpressed…but thanks to the swatches of some of my blog sistas, I already knew what I was going to get and surprisingly got just those things.

I copped Fafi Eyes 1

….and Squeeze It Lipglass.

Here are some more swatches of Fafi Eyes 1 and the look that I’m not too big on. The colors seem a bit frosty and chalky, so I may have to play around with other bases and/or Mixing Medium to get a better look. Yall let me know what you think.

I don’t knowwwww…..super duper chalky to me but I’m going to play around with it some more. I think I may go back to get some Paint Pots and a lippie or two. We shall seeeee. What did yall think about Fafi? Was it worth the hype?

Peace & blush.

Eyelashes Edition & FOTD

Greetings!

And welcome to the Eyelashes for Newbies Edition of Clumps of Mascara. Today I will highlight some of the things that I’ve learned while playing around with mascara. Please keep in mind that a lot of these tidbits may be things you may have already known. Which if that is the case, good for you! This post will simply only assist other newbies stumbling over the hassles of mascara and eyelashes. I’ve got pictures coming up as well as a FOTD, so stay tuned!

Oh yeah…and just to warn you, I’m having some photo re-sizing issues
goin’ on in this post…..please excuse the mess. Trying some new things out!

Ahhh, I’ve always been attracted to the idea of having long long loooong lashes. Only I didn’t quite get that gene. So, I, like many other women have been trying to achieve the look of having long beautiful lashes for many years now. I’m no newbie to mascara itself, but I am a newbie to different concepts/methods.

Now I’m not gonna go on a rant about what mascara is the best. I don’t think there is one, personally. And I’ve tried a lot. Not a lot A LOT, but enough to never really be satisfied. And people swear by DiorShow but it’ll be a cold day in hell before I spend that much money on a mascara. But that’s just me. I only own four right now.

-L’Oreal Luminous
-L’Oreal Telescopic
-MAC Plush Lash
-MAC Fibre Rich

……I’m a big fan of L’Oreal mascaras. And I’ve recently figured out how to get MAC’s Fibre Rich to work for me. Which brings me to my first learned lesson.

(1) It’s okay to use different mascaras at the same time. In the FOTD you will see today, I used Telescopic for my first coat and then Fibre Rich for my next two. I’ve achieved the look that I wanted….which would not have been possible had I used each of them solo.

(2) Tilt your head up when you apply mascara. I’m probably the only person in America who didn’t know this, but I’ve found that tilting my head significantly makes a big difference in my overall application.

(3) Open your mouth when applying mascara. I don’t know….it helps. Can’t explain that phenomenon but it does help.

(4) Using an eyelash curler AFTER applying mascara….not so much a good idea. I’ve heard it works for some people but it rips out my poor lashes. Not a good look.

(5) Brush your eyelashes. I don’t know where I got this from, but I do it religiously now. I use a regular mascara wand (preferably a disposable one) and brush my Vaseline coated eyelashes every night before bed. Why the Vaseline? To add a little moisture. I don’t use a ton….globs of Vaseline floatin’ in the iris ain’t coo. Just enough to where my lashes are slightly moisturized. And then I use the mascara wand and brush up as if I’m applying mascara. Brushing stimulates hair follicles and promote hair growth!

And so there are my 5 tidbits..and now for some pictures!

Here are my funky eyelashes with no mascara.

They start to look a little better with one coat.

And theeeeeen, here we go with 3 coats! Clumps and all….I mean really….where else will you find a blog that showcases MISTAKES? I’m a mess. If you haven’t already noticed.

Okay, here’s my FOTD
I used:

FACE
Homemade Honey cleanser
Jojoba Oil
Prep N Prime with foundation brush
Mineralized Skinfinish in Deep Dark (my new BFF)

EYES
UPDD
Bamboom Paint
Woodwinked with Fix+ (with 242SE)
Handwritten on crease/outer V (with Sonia Kashuk blending brush)

LIPS
MAC’s Bare Truth lipstick
Some frosty NYC lip color

You see the mistakes? YIKES!

Time to have some fun…..
