Let It Clump: Friendships

Yaaaay, This is my first Let It Clump post. We haven’t had one of these in awhile.
This series is where we stop talking about make-up to explore other areas of beauty and beyond. That’s anything! Nails, hair, fashion, jacked up love lives..anything! Any suggestions? Let me know at Tamarforclumps@gmail.com

I want to talk about FRIENDSHIPS! We all have them, we all want them and we all hate them.

I realized today that women are hard to understand! I have developed more valuable friendships via the Internet than I have in my whole life. I know its not anything wrong with my personality but I’ve had issues with friendships since grade school. Why can’t women get along? At first I though it was just my community but its a problem that we all have. What is the perfect woman? I’m still trying to figure that out. I can only be the woman that my mama raised. Here are some things she taught me…….

1.) Beautiful on the inside (Its not only the outside that matters)

2.) Loyal (If you’re not sure you where you stand you will always fall)

3.) Trustworthy (A person should be able to tell you anything and not worry about you hurting them)

4.) Love GOD (If you have faith you will always believe in something)

5.) Treat people the way you want to be treated (Its the golden rule)

Those are just a few I could go on and on! I feel that women should love and support one another. Do you know how much stronger we would be if actually took time out to help each other?

Chime in and let me know your thoughts. Are you a good friend? Do you have good friends?

Keep It Clumping,

TAMAR

Since I’ve been blogging through good ole’ ClumpsOfMascara.com here, my hair has gone through some changes.

There was the ultra fro….

…but then I made the mistake of straightening it.

…and my hair never recovered so I had to cut it off.

….and then I decided to make the commitment to start growing locs.

It has almost been a month since I started my loc journey blog. To see what I’m up to, follow my journey there.

Check it out:

Remember when I cut off alllll of my hair? Oh yes, chicas, I did. Actually I did it once back in 2004 but my crazy self went and did it again. If you are new to Clumps of Mascara I’m sure you are used to my shorter hair but the truth is, the short fro is fairly new. 3 months ago I cut it off and due to requests, I have decided to do updates. Especially for those newly natural or transitioning ladies.

Here was the 1st Month Upate.

And here we are at 3 Months!

LENGTH at 2 Months

LENGTH at 3 Months

NEW PRODUCTS:
-Aveda’s Dry Remedy Treatment (eh…check the video for details).
-An amazing Poo Bar that Amina from Coup de Couer gave me.
-Ojon’s Revitalizing Mist.

REGIME: I co-wash once/twice a week with Trader’s Joe Conditioner. For moisture, I massage my scalp with a lavender, rosemary/cedar and olive oil blend. For daily “refreshing” I use my homemade blend of water, vegetable glycerin, lavender oil and conditioner. OR I use Oyin Handmade’s Juices and Berries.

OTHER: I still don’t use any combs, brushes or any other accessories. I do wear the occasional beanie or African head wrap AND always a satin night scarf to bed. I was going to re-color my hair again but I haven’t just yet.

I like my hair at this point. I liked it more at 2 months because I really could just get up and go but now I HAVE to actually run my fingers through it so it doesn’t look too messy. I have officially decided to loc my hair and am searching for a loctian in the Orlando area. Hopefully by next month I’ll be sporting beautiful locs and before I know it I will be a beautiful brown lady with a crown on my head like….

Just gorgeous. Click the link below to see the hair update: video version.

Let It Clump: Hair Update

This series is where we stop talking about make-up to explore other areas of beauty and beyond. That’s anything! Nails, hair, fashion, jacked up love lives..anything! Any suggestions? Let me know at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

It’s time to do a hair update! Remember in this post where I cut of alllll of my hair? I promised my YouTube fam that I would continue to update them on the products I’m using, my hair regime and my growth.

So here we are a month later!

I’m shocked at how fast my hair is growing. Granted, I don’t mind if it grows at the speed of light, but it’s great to see how much I have after only a month.

Here are the products I’ve been using:

-Elasta QP Deep Penetrating Conditioner
-Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp Conditioner
-Oyin Handmade Juices and Berries
-Carol’s Daughter Tui Hair Oil
-Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castille Soap
-Trader’s Joe Nourish Spa Conditioner
-My homemade blend of water, glycerin, olive oil and lavender oil.

Up-Close Shots:

I honestly don’t do much with my hair. Partly because I’m lazy and partly because I don’t need to! The products I use are phenomenal! And I have very little desire to spend money on more products because I am extremely happy with the things I’m using now.

I wash my hair about every other day. I never use shampoo. I deep condition every 2 weeks. I don’t use any heat, combs, brushes or hair accessories. I have Dark and Lovely’s Honey Blonde permanent hair color….which I love quite a bit!

Here’s a video version of my hair update and a little extra detail about those hair products.

Fellow nappturals, BCers and transitionals, don’t hesitate to ask me any of your questions if you have any!

Stay beautiful!!

Let It Clump: Fragrances

This series is where we stop talking about make-up to explore other areas of beauty and beyond. That’s anything! Nails, hair, fashion, jacked up love lives..anything! Any suggestions? Let me know at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

This is a first for Clumps of Mascara. I don’t think I’ve ever discussed fragrances. *gasp*

I remember being a little girl and sneaking into my Mother’s bathroom, stepping on my tippy toes and spritzing my little neck with whatever beautiful bottle of perfume I could find. For me, perfume bottles signified elegance.

I requested my first fragrance in Elementary School. I felt so grown up spraying a bit of Baby Love (now who remembers that?) on my wrists. By 7th grade I was all over Tommy Girl and Shi. And by high school I straight robbing Mommy’s boudoir every morning for a bit of Bvlargi, Cool Water or Chanel N’5.

Every Christmas or birthday, my family members already knew what to get me, “….a fragrance.” In college, I wasn’t bankin’ enough to purchase my own scents so I relied on the gifts. And even know, as a college graduate (um, still broke) with a little more sophistication, I find it hard to drop $50+ on a fragrance.

But that doesn’t stop me from eye-ing them in department stores, indulging in the samples (don’t act like you don’t do this…lol) and treating to myself to one or two fragrances a year.

Baby Phat’s Fabulocity was one of those fragrances that I had to have. But not because I’m in love with the self-absorbed Kimora Lee. It’s because of the freakin’ bottle. Look at it!

A diamond? Are you kidding me? I had to have it. Never mind that it wasn’t anywhere in Orlando.

Never mind that I had to do something I haaate doing (buy things online, cries). I had to have it.

So when it finally arrived I placed it on one of the floating shelves in my room. I felt like a won a trophy.

But the smell? Uh…let’s just say if you don’t mind smelling like freshly cut grass with a tinge of honey suckle on a warm Spring today, then this is the fragrance for you.

No, I’m kidding.

I think.

I can’t say that I’m a huge fan of this fragrance beyond the bottle. But I think it’s because I have a very picky nose. I don’t like anything too floral or too fruity. And if it smells good enough to eat, then honey I don’t want it. Walking around smelling like a cookie, baked apple pie or strawberry shortcake (yumsss) is definitely not for moi.

I can get down with Baby Phat’s first fragrance but Fabulocity is uhh….not up to par, for me.

I like smelling like a sophisticated woman something more on the lines of:

Elizabeth Arden’s Provocative Woman

And Sean Jean’s Unforgettable Woman

….yes, I desire to smell like a woman and these fragrances definitely deliver. So if I have to go around smelling like somebody’s Momma, I’m down! No, I’m kidding. My friends used to laugh at me in high school because they said I smelled too old. Whatev. HA!

Any perfume-lovin’ folx out there?

Don’t forget to shoot me emails! I am still in Chicago and I’m sure I am mad bored going from luncheons to meetings. *sigh*

Stay beautiful!

Let It Clump: Dr. Miracle’s, Miss. Jessies ‘an Essie

Yaaaay, it’s time for a Let It Clump post. We haven’t had one of these in awhile.
This series is where we stop talking about make-up to explore other areas of beauty and beyond. That’s anything! Nails, hair, fashion, jacked up love lives..anything! Any suggestions? Let me know at Brittany@ClumpsOfMascara.com.

Today we are going to rap on two haircare lines and we’ll have a few nail polish shots and just an overall good time in this edition of Let It Clump.

And yesss, I’ve provided a video for you folx who loooove to hear my annoying voice. I try to front like I hate makin’ videos….but really I love it! Heheheeee…

First up we have Dr. Miracle’s.

First of all, I can’t say that I’m a fan of their commercials. I think they are a tad bit offensive and a little over the top. And then of course it has that implication that a big fro-style hairdo is “toe up” but long curls (ahem, or weave) is acceptable. I beg to differ. I’ll save the ranting for my personal blog but if you can get past the commercials you will find some pretty decent products.

Dr. Miracle’s has everything from no-lye relaxers to dandruff serums and hair sprays. I dabbled around in the over 6 of their products and have good reports on all of them! My 8 minute video will tell you what I think. Click the link below to visit.

Mr. Miracle’s and Miss. Jessie’s video review

Next up is Miss Jessies Curly Pudding and if you haven’t watched about video yet I talk about this product as well.

I seriously think this is one of the most over-rated products I have ever purchased. Not to mention it is too expensive. I purchased the sample size for $7.00 which was enough to play around in but the product itself did absolutely nothing for me. BTW: a 16 oz jar is $38.00. *looks around* I don’t think so.

But it does smell good.

And that’s where the joy ended for me. I think that products like these are really for people with wavier textures. If anyone can find products that actually work for people thick and kinky…please let me know because I’m starting to think they don’t exist.

My friend Nicole asked me about Essie’s fingernail polishes. I’m actually new to this brand but I loooove the formula. It’s better than…..dare I say it….China Glaze. *gasp* Yes, I’m cheating on China Glaze with Essie and I’m lovin’ the affair.

Ohh, look at Alligator Purse.
A beautiful “fall” terracotta-like color

I am obsessed with this Pool Boy. It’s like
a muted magenta. I have it on my toes now.

A color both my Grandmother and I can
agree on. Spritzer is the business!

Bahama Mama in the light

Bahama Mama in the dark

So yesss, I’m all over Essie’s products now. I got these from Ulta for buy 2 get 1 free and even snagged that Spritzer for only $2 in the clearance bin.

So we’ve covered a lot. Tell me your thoughts on Dr. Miracle’s, Miss. Jessies and Essie. Any must haves? Any regretted buys? Let ya girl know!

Peace and prettiness.
