How To Get A Sizzling Summer Look In 5 Easy Steps

Revlon products

This post is brought to you by Simply Beautiful and Walmart and I will be showcasing tips and products on how you can achieve a Sizzling Summer statement. I love summer time! I really do. But when it comes to makeup during the summer, I am a believer of the “less is more”.

Clumps of Mascara

I love playing up the eyes, wearing a dramatic lip and keeping my cheeks simple with a touch of bronzer or blush. Mind you, I live in Florida. And the wearing a ton of makeup everyday thing just doesn’t seem sensible when you’re battling humidity and mini hurricanes every other day.

Summer look with Revlon

I managed to crank out this entire look spending practically nothing. Lean in, girlfriends. I’m going to show you how this works. But first, let’s give a shout-out to the products that were used…

  • Revlon Bold Lacquer mascara
  • Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner
  • Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick
  • Revlon Powder Blush

I grabbed each and every one of those products at my local Walmart. First up, I evened out my skin tone with a pressed powder. I truly wish Revlon’s PhotoReady BB Cream came in darker shades as I’ve heard great things about it but they don’t have anything fitting for my deep complexion. *raises fist to Revlon* Good ole’ Rev won me back with their fantastic powder blush in Wine Not.

Revlon Powder Blush

I applied it to the apples of my cheeks and was left with a great dose of color. Since I’m a girl who loves bold lips, I selected Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fuchsia Fusion.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

Shades like this rock my world because I find them so flattering on women of all complexions. We’ve got our understated cheeks and a bold lip and so it’s on to the eyes.

Revlon’s Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner is some kind of great because the brush is stiff enough to really give you control and the formula is not only long lasting but the BLACK is rich, deep and sultry.

Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner

It pairs perfectly with Revlon’s Bold Lacquer mascara. Perfect for my girls who are looking to have dramatic eyes, Bold Lacquer not only delivers but it lasts for hours at a time.

I haven’t tested it in a thunderstorm yet, but something tells me that she won’t budge. But really, what’s a Summer Sizzling look without a hot manicure to match?

Boom. Thank you, Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel.

Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel

Gel nails are the trend these days but I love how I am able to get salon performance at a fraction of the cost. And I can do it at home. High Stakes is a funky hunter green and it totally fits my personality. It also makes for a pretty fantastic manicure and pedicure color. Green is a pretty untraditional shade for summer but hey, it’s cool to switch it up every now and then, right?

Clumps of Mascar rocks Summer Look

And there you have it. A look fit for summer that you too can create at home with these affordable goodies from your local Walmart. The best part? A look like this takes very little time.

What are you thinking, lovely lady? Would you wear a look like this or would you play up the eyes more with an understated lip? Let me know in the comments! As a participant in the Totally Her program, I’ve received product samples and/or compensation for my time and efforts in creating this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

MAC Viva Glam Rihanna 2 – can’t waiiiiit!

Y’all have asked for it and so I will be dishing it out. More MAC Cosmetics content, that is! I owe MAC a lot because they were really the first makeup brand that introduced me to makeup. And I know I’m not alone in that department. My obsession with them disappeared over the years but not because they aren’t cranking out amazing collections and products. But I’ve been wanting to spread the love and discover other makeup brands. Apparently my heart is big enough to love them all so you can look forward to more MAC Cosmetics features. Yaaaay!

That said, last week MAC released the promo and gave us information on Rihanna’s second Viva Glam campaign.

VIVA GLAM RIHANNA II
First of all. Work, girl Rih. I’m not going to pretend that I’m a fan (I’m not hater either, so chill out…) but the girl knows how to work the camera and I think she is gorgeous. This go ’round we are getting a lipstick and lipglass – both are frosts!

Viva Glam Rihanna

Lipstick ($16) – Warm mauve with a silver forst
Lipglass ($15) – Cool mauve with a red frost

Opinions on the lippies are swirling around the ‘net and it looks like many aren’t a fan of them. However, I can’t WAIT to get my hands on them. Yes, they are a bit reminiscent of the 90’s but I am here for them. I lived in a silvery purple frost in high school so I’m thinking that I can work with this. We’ll see. Yours truly will scooping it up and seeing what kind of magic (ahem…or horror) will happen when these are applied.

Look for these to be available at MACCosmetics.com on September 11th and in stores on September 15th.

So…a mauve frost of a lippy. What are you thinkin’? Yay or nay?

I Finally Found Shea Moisture Cosmetics…In Stores!

I went to Virginia a few months ago and visited my husband’s side of the family in this itty bitty city. I’m not knockin’ small towns because I’m from one but y’all…I was SO surprised when I discovered that this city’s Target had Shea Moisture Cosmetics!

Shea Moisture Cosmetics
Um…yay! I’ve had Shea Moisture Cosmetics on my radar for quite some time. The brand is most popular to the natural hair’d girls of the world because they make fantastic products for those of us with kinky and curly hair. They also have great skincare products for babies and everyone else.

The cosmetics line is really geared towards women of color because, get this, they have really dark foundation shades. This NEVER happens. I mean, ever. As a dark girl, it is beyond difficult trying to find a foundation. Most brands omit us completely. Yes, even in 2014. I always jump for joy when I see an affordable line of foundation for brown girls. I couldn’t help but scoop up a tube. I also grabbed a lipgloss.

Shea Moisture lipgloss

And okay, there isn’t anything crazy fancy about this lipgloss, but how cute is the packaging? I snagged a blush, too!

Shea Moisture blush

I would have loved to grab more but this line is a bit on the pricier side. For Target, at least. The good news is, you’ll get your money’s worth because the products are really stellar. I did a video review showcasing everything I hauled!

Have you ever tried anything from Shea Moisture Cosmetics?

Brown Beauty Bloggers Rockin’ 50 Shades of MAC

50 shades of MAC

Oh darliiiings, I have something in store for you. I had the opportunity to partner with 4 other talented brown girl beauty bloggers for a little collaboration called 50 Shades of MAC. There are 5 of us and we are each showcasing 10 MAC Cosmetics lipsticks. The lipsticks featured are both permanent and limited edition and I think you’ll love getting a chance to see how these shades look on brown girls of various complexions. And because I am…ME, some of those pictures are some kinds of silly. You know how I do.

So…let’s get this party started!

MAC Port Red

First up is Port Red. Launched from the 2008 Naughty Nauticals, Port Red is a blue red that has subtle silver undertones. It almost looks metallic.

MAC Black Knight

2008 also gave us the goth-friendly collection Cult of Cherry. I loved the dark shades of this collection and I knew that I had to have Black Knight. Because why wouldn’t you want a creamy black lipstick in your life?

MAC Violetta

Violetta is a bright violet purple and it is one of MAC’s Bestsellers for a reason. This shade looks stunning on women of all complexions.

MAC Most Popular

Most Popular is from the 2009 Hello Kitty collection and I really only picked this up because Hello Kitty is my spiritual animal. It’s a deep berry red that is average at best, but come on…it has Hello Kitty imprinted on the stick. ‘Nuff said!

MAC Electro

I remember first seeing Electro from the Neo Sc-Fi collection and going crazyyyyy. This creamy orange isn’t exactly the most flattering thing when worn alone on darker skin but honey, I don’t care. I LIVE for Electro.

MAC 3-D

3-D used to be my “interview” lipstick back in the day. Whenever I was job hunting and needed to head on an interview, this rose made me feel like I was going to get the job!

MAC Pomposity

There really isn’t anything striking about the purpley magenta that is Pomposity. The silver shimmer in it provides a little bit more pop than your average magenta lipstick and that’s what drew me to Lady Pomp.

DSC_0460.NEF

Politely Pink, I feel, is MAC’s answer to a nude lip for brown girls. When paired with Chestnut lip liner, I found this lipstick to be so flattering when so many other so-called nudes weren’t.

MAC Girl About Town

Girl About Town and I have good memories because I think this was the lipstick that made me fall for bright colors. This vibrant berry actually looks good on all complexions!

MAC Candy Yum Yum

Candy Yum-Yum. So yeah…I ignored that matte hot pink the first time it came out. The second time I scooped it up. And now? I love it so so much. I love pairing it with MAC’s Nightmoth to really compliment me.

Check out the other 40 shades by visiting the sites of the other gorgeous ladies!

Milani Brilliant Lip Shine Lip Glosses Are Glossy. Really Glossy.

So guess who did another videooo–ooooh? Your truly. I received these lip glosses for review a looooong time ago and I hate that I am just now doing a review for them but yo…better late than never, am I right?

Lip Shine Pinterest

Simply put? I love them. Like, a lot. They are priced reasonably at less than $6 and these non-tacky glosses are actually more pigmented in the tube than they are on the lips. At least some of them.

Milani Lip Shine swatches

And how ’bout that red? And that purple? Girl yes…they are my favorite of the bunch. These are probably ideal for those who really don’t want to be bothered with a ton of reapplying.

But hey, I didn’t come over here to WRITE a review. I really just wanted to drop the link to the video review. I almost had a breakdown in that video but I had to breathe through it. I don’t know what it is with me. I used to be so confident in front of the camera. I’m supposed to get better with time. Not revert back to that insecure 7th grader. Let’s hope I can get it together before I turn 30. Which is like in…6 months. Eeeek! But yay. No really. I think growing older is a beautiful thang. Not many people get the chance, ya know?

Thanks for viewing and buy these lippies here.

Come oooon, Fall 2014. NARS has some fantastic things for us!

NARS Fall

I’m kinda ready for FAll. Yes, I know this is a little crazy considering Summer just started but quite frankly, I can’t enjoy summer. It’s just TOO hot, yo. That and the daily thunderstorms are seriously raining on my parade. Literally. I’ve got another reason to look forward to cooler weather and vampy shades. NARS Fall 2014 Fall collection Night Caller is seriously up my alley. Here’s what they are givin’ us…

Eyeshadow Duos
Jardin Perdu Duo Eyeshadow ($35) – (L) metallic dove grey, (R) metallic amethyst
Dolomites Duo Eyeshadow ($35) – (L) shiny rose quartz, (R) chocolate

Eyeliners
Night Flight ($24) – black with cobalt blue pearl
Night Bird Eyeliner – black with purple pearl
Night Clubbing Eyeliner – black with gold pearl
Night Porter Eyeliner – black with green pearl

Lip Pencils
Bansar Satin Lip Pencil ($25) – rose brown
Mondore Satin Lip Pencil ($25) – cranberry

Face
Mauritanie Matte Multiple ($39) – strawberry red
Unlawful Blush ($30) – amber pink with silver pearls

That blush and those lip pencils are miiiiiine!

Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick…whooooa!

I’ve been wanting to buy Too Faced’s Melted lipsticks forever. I tried to ignore them. I told myeslf that I would hardly use them and that they weren’t really THAT unique.

Too Faced Melted

I lied to myself. And last weekend, I finally bit the bullet and purchased one. I was trying to be modest and hoard them all but really it was the Melted Fuchsia that called my name. Have you girls tried it? Ohmigoooodness.

Too Faced Melted Fuchsia
I’m pretty sure this shade will look gorgeous on just about anyone who wears it. It is indeed a very BRIGHT fuchsia but it somehow flatters me as it has nice blue undertones. And as all of the reviews have claimed, these Melted thingies wear very well. Do yourself a favor and exfoliate your lips if you find them cracking. These babies tend to seep into every crack and crease. The smell reminds me of Play-Doh but it doesn’t bother me. Honestly, I’ll take Play-Doh scents any day over floral or vanilla scents.

DSC_2828

Too Faced said that these lippies should have “the shine of a gloss, lasting power of a stain, and pigment-packed color of a liquid lipstick.” Very interesting concept and one that I don’t think I’ve heard of before. The applicator has makes applying it easy.

Too Faced Melted applicator

I was shocked at how opaque this is, but that’s a good thing! It feels very light on the lips and really does last for quite some time. If you’re eating and manage to wipe your mouth, you will likely wipe off the color but yep, you’re left with just a little bit of staining.

It does surprisingly well and I’m trying to figure out which bill I shouldn’t pay so that I can buy some of these babies. Haha! Just kidding.

Maybe.

Seriously, though…at $21 they aren’t cheap but they are so worth the price and I don’t think I’ve come across a lip product that has gotten me THIS excited in soooo long. So yeah, girl. I’ll be wearing this lippy foreeeeeever.

Have you tried Too Faced’s Melted lippies yet? Check ‘em out here.

Why You Should Buy Wet ‘n Wild’s Fergie Lipstains

I feel like it has been forever since I’ve featured lip glosses on Clumps. I’ve really been wearing lipstick more these days but while rummaging around, I came across a few of these glosses that Wet ‘n Wild Cosmetics sent me some months ago. As an Amabassador for the brand, I have been so fortunate to get a peek of all of their newest products.

Wet n Wild Fergie Vicious Varnish High Shine Lipstain Collection

These lipstains launched months back and the color selection is just out of this word! I only have 5 of the shades here but there are more and they range from neutral/browns to hot pinks and reds. Great job with this, WnW!

Wet n Wild Fergie Vicious Varnish High Shine Lipstain

Ideally, what I gathered from these is that they are intended to be applied like a gloss but have the staying power of a stain. BUT, they are also shiny which means you aren’t going to get that super dry feeling that you may get from a lipstain. It’s an appealing concept. Especially for those of us who have perpetually dry lips.

Wet n Wil lipgloss swatches

What I don’t like about these is the spatula-like applicator. They distribute an uneven amount of gloss on the lips and it takes a bit of blotting to even thangs out. Not a major downer but it is definitely something to note. Wear-wise, though, these are fantastic. I can easily get a good 3-6 hours of wear of ‘em while not having to worry about them coming off of the lips.

Wet n Wild lipgloss

Even as the glossiness, fades away, the stain is still there. It works better than many higher-end stains that I’ve used! I didn’t have any issues with the scent and was happy to find that there wasn’t an overwhelmingly annoying smell or taste to them.

IMG_0Wet n Wild Fergie Vicious Varnish High Shine
And hello, they are $3.49. Crazy cheap! And they are a lot better than their MegaLast glosses. I so wish Wet ‘n Wild would add these to their website, but nope…nada. You can’t purchase them online either so your best bet is to head to your local Walgreens or CVS and scoop ‘em up.
