How to wear hot lips with confidence

Lately I’ve been getting a mess load of emails from ladies who have would love nothing more than to venture outside of bare lips andd boring neutral lip colors to colors with a little more POW. Now I know bright lip colors ain’t for everyone. And I know they aren’t for every occasion but trust me when I tell you a bangin’ lip color can set of an outfit and send you confidence soaring through the roof.

Now I’m ain’t some lip color guru or anything like that but I remember being that female loving lip colors on other women but being terrified to wear it myself. So I’ve taken my former insecurities and your questions and devised a list that I hope will motivate you to rock a hot lip.

Marie Deneen: Lippies and Lotion

Let me introduce you to Marie Deneen; a brand whose motto is Providing Nature’s Goodness With Style. A few months ago, I was given the opportunity to test drive some lippies and lotions from the them. Gotta love a brand that contributes to West African projects and Jamaican education programs, right? Founder Rashida Morgan-Brown not only has a passion for giving back but also likes to include natural ingredients in her products.

Perhaps that’s why Marie Deneen has recently been featured in Essence Magazine and People Magazine. Holla!

Let’s rap on the lippies first. I tried three of the Shea Lips.

COVERGIRL’s Lip Perfection Lipsticks-coming soon!

Check this out…

How pretty is that packaging? These will be launching January 11 but beginning November 1, COVERGIRL will begin an exclusive online preview. You can be one of the first to try the new product by visiting COVERGIRL’s Facebook fan page to take advantage of this advance opportunity.

I’m super excited! Especially when I found out that amazing Pat McGrath designed the 44 shades. I wonder how these will compare to Maybelline’s ColorSensational lippies.

You know I’ll be letting you know. Think you’ll be scooping some of these up?

The story of a fierce red lipstick

Once upon a time, in B’s beauty boudoir, lived a little red lippie.

I know, I know…you think you’ve heard this story before, uh? No no, my loves…gather around as I tell you about the awesomeness that is COVERGIRL’s Cherry Bomb.
With a name like “Cherry Bomb”, it has to be ….THE bomb, right? Girlfriend, it is all of that AND more. While I am often mesmerized by the gorgeous packaging of higher end lipsticks, I can’t deny the high performance that is drugstore make-up. Cherry Bomb is no exception. You see, for around $5, you can snag a lipstick rich in pigment, abundant in moisturizing agents and complete with show stopping abilities.

Is that too red for you? Nonsense. There is no such thing. It is my attempt to get women all over the world to rock a red lip with pride. I want to go on a tour called The Cherry Bomb Tour. I want to toss out this lippie to women in Kenya and Kentucky, Portugal and Paris, Bath and Birmingham, Toronto and Tulsa. This lippie…

…is KING. Er…Queen.

Any questions?

My Most Expensive Lipstick ever!

Ohmigoodness! I can not believe I am just now getting around to showing y’all this beautiiiiful lippy. I snagged this some time ago in New York City. Yana from My Own Judge and I attended a Dolce & Gabanna Cosmetics event. We received fabulous make-overs and played around with the brands’ goodies. The amazing make-up artist Pat McGrath was there but we didn’t get a chance to meet her. Spam it, man!

Ah well…the next best thing to meeting a legend is indulging in a product that they love, right? Pat McGrath loves Dahlia.

I LOVE this lipstick. It is one of the  few that I can wear without touching up with a lip liner or gloss. It is sheer perfection. And it really works well on my skin tone.

And on the lippies…

I think this is the lipstick I will wear when I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled in a few weeks. Don’t laugh…a girl has to feel beautiful before she gets 4 teeth yanked out of her mouth. Sometimes I can’t believe I spent $30 on a friggin’ lipstick. It’s one huge buy for a cheap-o gal like myself. But every few days after the bills are paid I think it’s okay to treat yourself to something luxurious.

Do you splurge on any higher end brands? Dior? Chanel? What’s your favorite?

Maybelline ColorSensational: Pinks!

It’s the last (wo)man standing the Maybelline’s ColorSensational color family. We covered Red, chatted with Natural and showed loved to Plum. Time for Pink’s debut. Ready?

But wait…first, let me be honest. I’m not a fan of lighter pink lipsticks on darker skin. In fact remember that controversial post from last year about MAC’s Sugar Sweet collection? Yikes! Light pink lipstick is not up my alley. But perhaps Born With It can change my mind.

Maybe?

Nope. My face says it all. This does not scream flattering to me.

The best way to tone down a lipstick like this is to:
a) Use a darker lip liner.
b) Use a darker gloss.

The glosses that accompany Born With It are other pinks. Surprisingly Raspberry Shorbet did it some justice.

That’s a little better. It is still a wee bit pinker than I would like but I won’t jump off of a bridge over it.

Any pink lipstick fans out there?

Maybelline ColorSensational: Naturals!

It’s time to holla at the Maybelline ColorSensational Naturals family. Natural lippies isn’t really my style. If you’ve been following Clumps of Mascara you know that I absolutely adore colors on my lips. But naturals aren’t soooooo bad. I found that they are perfect for super important meetings or on days in which you I don’t want too much pop on the lips.

Check out Maybelline ColorSensational’s Nearly There lipstick.

Not so bad, uh? And even on the lips it gives me enough color to pacify this Color Queen.

I topped it off with ColorSensational Broadway Bronze lip gloss. Loves it! Another winner from the CS fam. And of course if I want to add a little more color to it I can always pair it with a lip liner.

How do you feel about natural lipsticks? Yay or nay?

Maybelline ColorSensational: Plums!

Next up in the Maybelline ColorSensational color review iiiis….plum!!

If I had to choose a lipstick color that I think most Black women run to first, I’d say plum.

Plums are safe. They are work-appropriate and can have many different color variations when topped off with lip liners and glosses. I probably have more plum-esque colors in my lipstick collection than any other color.

Meet Mauve-ulous lipstick and Sugared Honey lipgloss.

This duo sat in my purse for a good month. I love them! They complement each other very well. See….

Find 11 more plum lippies in the Maybelline Colorsensational family at your local drugstore, Wal-Mart, Ulta and Target.

So how many plum lippies do you have? Like 48 right? HA!!
